00:04The words of the prophet Joel, chapter 2, verse 13.
00:11Rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the Lord your God.
00:18For he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repented him of the evil.
00:31Dearly beloved brethren, the scripture moves us in sundry places to acknowledge and confess our manifold sins and wickedness.
00:42But that we should not disassemble nor clave them before the face of Almighty God our Heavenly Father.
00:51But confess them, with a humble, lowly, penitent, and obedient heart, to the end that we may obtain forgiveness of
01:02the same, by his infinite goodness and mercy.
01:07And although we ought at all times humbly to acknowledge our sins before God, yet ought we chiefly so to
01:15do,
01:16when we assemble and meet together, to render thanks for the great benefits we have received at his hands.
01:23To set forth his most worthy praise, to hear his most holy word, and to ask those things which are
01:32requisite and necessary, as well for the body as the soul.
01:39Wherefore I pray and beseech you, as many as are here present, to accompany me with a pure heart and
01:47humble voice to the throne of the heavenly grace, saying after me.
01:55Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from thy ways like lost sheep.
02:04We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts.
02:11We have offended against thy holy laws.
02:16We have left undone those things which we ought to have done, and we have done those things we ought
02:23not to have done, and there is no health in us.
02:29But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable offenders.
02:35Spare thou them, O God, who confess their faults.
02:39Restore thou those who are penitent, according to thy promises declared unto mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord.
02:49And grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life.
02:59To the glory of thy holy name.
03:02Amen.
03:06Almighty God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who desireth not the death of a sinner, but rather that
03:14he turn from his wickedness and live,
03:18and has given power and commandment to his ministers to declare and pronounce to his people, being penitent, the absolution
03:29and remission of their sins.
03:32He pardoneth and absolveth all who truly repent, and unfaimly believe his holy gospel.
03:42Wherefore, let us beseech him to grant us true repentance, and his holy spirit, that those things may please him
03:51which we do at this present,
03:54and that the rest of our life hereafter may be pure and holy, so that at the last we may
04:00come to his eternal joy,
04:03through Jesus Christ our Lord.
04:08Amen.
04:12Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
04:16Thy kingdom come.
04:18Thy will be done as it is in heaven.
04:22Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses,
04:28as we forgive them that trespass against us.
04:31And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
04:36For thine is the kingdom, for thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever.
04:42Amen.
04:46O Lord, open our lips, and our mouth shall show forth thy praise.
04:55O God, make speed to save us.
04:59O Lord, make haste to help us.
05:05Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost, as it was in the beginning,
05:11is now and ever shall be, world without end.
05:16Amen.
05:19Praise ye the Lord.
05:27O Lord, let us sing unto the Lord, and let us heartily rejoice in the strength of our salvation.
05:36Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and show ourselves glad in him with psalms.
05:44For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods.
05:50In his hand are all the corners of the earth, and the strength of the hills is his also.
05:57The sea is his, and he made it, and his hands prepared the dry land.
06:03O come, let us worship and hold home, and kneel before the Lord, our Maker.
06:10For he is the Lord, our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his
06:17hand.
06:19Today, if you will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, and as in the day
06:27of temptation, in the wilderness.
06:30When our fathers tempted us, proved us, and saw our works.
06:37Forty years long I was grieved with this generation, and said it is a people that do err in their
06:43hearts, and they have not known my ways.
06:48Unto whom I swore in my wrath, that they should not enter into my rest.
06:55Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.
06:59As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
07:06Amen.
07:14Psalm 15
07:17Lord, who shall dwell in thy tabernacle, or who shall rest upon thy holy hill?
07:24Even he that leadeth an uncorrupt life, and doeth the thing which is right, and speaketh the truth from his
07:31heart.
07:33He that hath used no deceit in his tongue, nor done evil to his neighbour, and hath not slandered his
07:40neighbour.
07:42He that setteth not by himself, but is lowly in his own eyes, and maketh much of them that fear
07:49the Lord.
07:51He that sweareth unto his neighbour, and disappointeth him not, now it were it to his own hindrance.
08:02He that hath not given his money upon usury, nor taken reward against the innocent.
08:10Whoso doeth these things, shall never fall.
08:15Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.
08:19As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
08:26Amen.
08:29Psalm 16
08:34O my soul, thou hast said unto the Lord, thou art my God, my goods are nothing unto thee.
08:47All my delight is upon the saints, as are in the earth, and upon such as excel in virtue.
08:55But they that run after another God, shall have great trouble.
09:00Their drink offerings of blood will I not offer, neither make mention of thy names with my lips.
09:09The Lord himself is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup.
09:14Thou shalt maintain my lot.
09:17The lot is fallen unto me in a fair ground.
09:20Yea, I have a goodly heritage.
09:23I will thank the Lord for giving me warning.
09:26My reins also chastened me in the night of season.
09:30I have set God always before me.
09:33For he is on my right hand, therefore I shall not fall.
09:38Wherefore my heart was glad and my glory rejoiced.
09:42My flesh also shall rest in hope.
09:45For why?
09:47Thou shalt not leave my soul in hell.
09:50Neither shalt thou suffer thy Holy One to see corruption.
09:55Thou shalt show me the path of life.
09:58In thy presence is the fullness of joy, and at thy right hand there is pleasure for evermore.
10:06Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.
10:10As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be.
10:14The world without end.
10:16Amen.
10:21The Book of Wisdom, Chapter 11
10:25She prospered their works in the hand of a holy prophet.
10:30They travelled through the desert without inhabitants,
10:32and in trackless regions they pitched their tents.
10:37They withstood enemies and repelled foes.
10:40They thirsted, and they called upon you,
10:43and there was given them water out of the flinty rock,
10:47healing of their thirst from the dry, hard stone.
10:51For by what things their foes were punished.
10:54By these they in their need were benefited.
10:58When the enemy were troubled with clotted blood,
11:01instead of a river's ever-flowing fountain,
11:04to rebuke the decree for the slaying of babes,
11:08you gave them abundant water beyond all hope.
11:12Having shown them by the thirst which they had suffered,
11:16how you punished the adversaries.
11:18For when they were tried, albeit but in mercy chastened,
11:23they learnt how the ungodly were tormented,
11:26being judged with wrath.
11:29But these, as a father admonishing them, you did prove.
11:35But those, as a stern king condemning them, you searched out.
11:40Yes, and whether they were far off from the righteous or near them,
11:44they were alike distressed, for a double grief took hold of them,
11:49and a groaning at the remembrance of things past.
11:53For when they heard that through their punishments the others had benefited,
11:57they felt the presence of the Lord.
12:00For him who long before was cast forth and exposed,
12:03they left off mocking.
12:06In the last issue of what came to pass,
12:09they marvelled,
12:10having thirsted in another manner than the righteous.
12:15But in requital of the senseless imaginings of their unrighteous,
12:21wherein they were led astray to worship irrational reptiles and wretched vermin,
12:27you sent upon them a multitude of irrational creatures for vengeance,
12:32that they might learn that by what things a man sins,
12:36by these he will be punished.
12:39For your all-powerful hand,
12:41that created the world out of formless matter.
12:45Lack not means to send upon them a multitude of bears,
12:49fierce lions, or newly created wild beasts,
12:53full of rage of unknown kind,
12:57either breathing out a blast of fiery breath,
13:00or blowing forth from their nostrils noisome smoke,
13:05flashing sparkles from their eyes,
13:08which had power not only to consume them by their violence,
13:11but to destroy them even by the terror of their sight.
13:15Yes, and without these might they have fallen by a single breath,
13:19being pursued by justice,
13:21and scattered abroad by the breath of your power.
13:26But by measure and number and weight
13:29you order all things,
13:31for to be greatly strong is yours at all times,
13:35and the might of your own,
13:37who shall withstand it?
13:40Because the whole world before you
13:42is as grain in a balance
13:44as a drop of dew at morning comes upon the earth.
13:48But you have mercy on all men,
13:51because you have power to do all things,
13:53and you overlook the sins of men,
13:56to the end that they might repent.
13:59For you love all things that are,
14:02abhorring none of the things you have made.
14:05For never would you have formed anything
14:07if you hated it.
14:09How would anything have endured
14:10unless you had wilted?
14:13Or that which was not called by you,
14:16how would it have been preserved?
14:19But you spare all things,
14:22because they are yours,
14:23Sovereign Lord,
14:25you, lover of men's lives.
14:28This is the word of the Lord.
14:31Thanks be to God.
14:36We praise thee, O God.
14:39We acknowledge thee to be the Lord.
14:42All the earth does worship thee,
14:45the Father everlasting.
14:47To thee all angels cry aloud,
14:51the heavens and all the powers therein.
14:53To thee, Terebin and Seraphim,
14:57continually do cry,
15:00Holy, Holy, Holy,
15:02Lord God of Sabaoth,
15:04heaven and earth are full
15:06of the majesty of thy glory.
15:10The glorious company of the apostles,
15:13praise thee.
15:14The goodly fellowship of the prophets,
15:18praise thee.
15:19The noble army of martyrs,
15:21praise thee.
15:23The Holy Church throughout all the world
15:26does acknowledge thee.
15:28The Father of an infinite majesty,
15:31thine honourable true and only Son.
15:35Also the Holy Ghost,
15:37the Comforter,
15:38Thou art the King of glory,
15:41O Christ.
15:42Thou art the everlasting Son of the Father.
15:47When thou tookest upon thee to deliver man,
15:50thou didst not abel the virgin's womb.
15:54When thou hast overcome the sharpness of death,
15:57thou didst open the kingdom of heaven
16:00to all believers.
16:03Thou sittest at the right hand of God
16:06in the glory of the Father.
16:08We believe that thou shalt come
16:10to be our judge.
16:13We therefore pray thee,
16:15help thy servants,
16:17whom thou hast redeemed with thy precious blood.
16:20Make them to be numbered with thy sights
16:23in glory everlasting.
16:26O Lord, save thy people and bless thine heritage.
16:31Govern them and lift them up for ever.
16:35Day by day we magnify thee,
16:38and we worship thy name.
16:40And we worship thy name ever, world without end.
16:44Thou sayeth, O Lord, to keep us this day without sin.
16:48Lord, have mercy upon us.
16:51Have mercy upon us.
16:53Lord, let thy mercy enlighten upon us,
16:56as our trust is in thee.
16:59O Lord, in thee have I trusted.
17:02Let me never be confounded.
17:06Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
17:08and to the Holy Spirit,
17:10as it was in the beginning,
17:12is now, and ever shall be,
17:15world without end.
17:16Amen.
17:23The second epistle to Timothy chapter 4.
17:27I command you, therefore,
17:29before God and the Lord Jesus Christ,
17:32who will judge the living and the dead
17:34at his appearing and his kingdom,
17:37preach the word.
17:39Be urgent in season and out of season.
17:43Reprove, rebuke, and exalt
17:45with all patience and teaching.
17:49For the time will come
17:51when they will not listen to sound doctrine,
17:53but having itching ears
17:55will heap up for themselves teachers
17:57after their own lusts,
18:00turning away their ears from the truth
18:02and turning away to fables.
18:06But you, be sober in all things,
18:09suffer hardship,
18:10do the work of an evangelist
18:12and fulfil your ministry.
18:14For I am already being offered,
18:16and the time of my departure has come.
18:20I have fought the good fight.
18:21I have finished the course.
18:23I have kept the faith.
18:26From now on there is stored up for me
18:29the crown of righteousness,
18:30which the Lord, the righteous judge,
18:33will give to me on that day,
18:35and not to me only,
18:37but to all those who have loved his appearing.
18:41Be diligent to come to me soon,
18:44for Demas has left me,
18:46having loved this present world,
18:48and went on to Thessalonica,
18:51Crescens to Galatia,
18:53and Titus to Dalmatia.
18:55Only Luke is with me.
18:58Take Mark and bring him with you,
19:00for he is useful to me for service.
19:03But I sent Titicus to Ephesus.
19:08Bring the cloak that I left at Troas
19:11with Carpus when you come,
19:12and the books,
19:14especially the parchments.
19:17Alexander the coppersmith did much evil to me.
19:20The Lord will repay him according to his deeds,
19:23of whom you also must be aware,
19:27for he greatly opposed our words.
19:31At my first defence,
19:33no one came to help me,
19:34but all left me.
19:37May it not be held against them.
19:40But the Lord stood by me,
19:43strengthening me,
19:44that through me the message
19:45might be fully proclaimed,
19:47and that all the Gentiles might hear.
19:50And I was delivered
19:51from the mouth of the lion.
19:55The Lord will deliver me
19:56from every evil work,
19:58and will preserve me
19:59for his heavenly kingdom,
20:01to whom be glory
20:03for ever and ever.
20:05Amen.
20:09Greet Pritia and Aquila
20:11and the house of Enesiphorus.
20:14Erastus remained at Corinth,
20:16but I left Throbemus
20:18at Miletus,
20:19who was sick.
20:22Be diligent to come before winter.
20:25Eubulus salutes you
20:27as do Prudence,
20:28Linus,
20:29Claudia,
20:30and all the brothers.
20:31The Lord Jesus Christ
20:33be with your spirit.
20:35Grace be with you.
20:38This is the word of the Lord.
20:41Thanks be to God.
20:50Blessed be the Lord God of Israel,
20:53for he hath visited
20:54and redeemed his people,
20:57and hath raised up
20:58a mighty salvation for us
21:00in the house of his servant David,
21:04as he spake.
21:05As he spake by the mouth
21:06of his holy prophets,
21:07which have since been
21:08since the world began,
21:10that we should be saved
21:12from our enemies
21:13and from the hand
21:14of all that hate us,
21:16to perform the mercy
21:18promised to our forefathers
21:20and to remember his holy covenant,
21:23to perform the oath
21:25which he swore
21:26to our forefather Abraham
21:28that he would give us,
21:30that would be delivered
21:32out of the hand of our enemies,
21:34might serve him without fear,
21:37holiness and righteousness
21:38before him
21:39all the days of our life.
21:43And thou, child,
21:45shall be called
21:45the prophet of the highest,
21:47for thou shalt go before
21:49the face of the Lord
21:50to prepare his ways,
21:52to give knowledge of salvation
21:54to his people
21:55for the remission of their sins,
21:58through the tender mercy of our God,
22:01whereby the dayspring
22:03from on high hath visited us,
22:06to give light
22:07to them that sit in darkness
22:09and in the shadow of death
22:11and to guide our feet
22:13into the way of peace.
22:16Glory be to the Father
22:17and to the Son
22:18and to the Holy Ghost,
22:20as it was in the beginning,
22:22is now and ever shall be,
22:24world without end.
22:26Amen.
22:33I believe in God,
22:35the Father Almighty,
22:37maker of heaven and earth,
22:40and in Jesus Christ,
22:42his only Son,
22:42our Lord,
22:43who was conceived
22:44by the Holy Ghost,
22:46born of the Virgin Mary,
22:48suffered unto Pontius Pilate,
22:50and crucified,
22:52dead, and buried.
22:53He descended into hell
22:55the third day
22:57he rose again from the dead.
22:59He ascended into heaven
23:01and sitteth
23:02of the right hand
23:03and the God,
23:04and the Father Almighty.
23:06From thence
23:07he shall come to judge
23:08the quick and the dead.
23:11I believe in the Holy Ghost,
23:13the holy Catholic Church,
23:15the communion of saints,
23:17the forgiveness of sins,
23:19the resurrection of the body,
23:21and the life everlasting.
23:24and the life everlasting.
23:28The Lord be with you
23:30and with thy spirit.
23:34Let us pray.
23:37Lord,
23:38have mercy upon us.
23:40Christ,
23:41have mercy upon us.
23:43Lord,
23:44have mercy upon us.
23:49Our Father,
23:50which art in heaven,
23:52hallowed be thy name.
23:54Thy kingdom come.
23:56Thy will be done
23:57on earth
23:58as it is in heaven.
24:01Give us this day
24:02our daily bread
24:03and forgive us
24:04our trespasses
24:05as we forgive
24:07those who trespass against us.
24:11And lead us not
24:12into temptation,
24:13but deliver us
24:14from evil.
24:16Amen.
24:19O Lord,
24:20show thy mercy upon us
24:22and grant us
24:24thy salvation.
24:26O Lord,
24:27save the King
24:28and mercifully hear us
24:31when we call upon thee.
24:34Endue thy ministers
24:36with righteousness
24:37and make
24:39thy chosen people
24:41joyful.
24:43O Lord,
24:44save thy people
24:46and bless
24:47thine inheritance.
24:51Give peace
24:52in our time,
24:53O Lord,
24:54because there is none other
24:56that fighteth for us
24:57but only thou,
24:59O God.
25:01O God,
25:03make clean
25:03our hearts
25:04within us
25:05and take not
25:07thy Holy Spirit
25:08from us.
25:14To collect
25:15for the 22nd Sunday
25:17of the Trinity.
25:20Lord,
25:21we beseech thee
25:21to keep thy household
25:23the church
25:24in continual godliness
25:26that through thy protection
25:28it may be free
25:29from all adversities
25:31and devoutly given
25:33to serve thee
25:33in good works
25:34thanks to the glory
25:36to the glory
25:37of thy name
25:37through Jesus Christ
25:39our Lord.
25:41Amen.
25:46O God,
25:48who art the author
25:49of peace
25:49and lover
25:50of concord
25:51in the knowledge
25:52of whom
25:53standeth
25:53our eternal life
25:55whose service
25:56is perfect freedom.
25:57defend us
25:59thy humble servants
26:01in all assaults
26:02of our enemies
26:03that we
26:05surely trusting
26:06in thy defence
26:07may not fear
26:08the power
26:09of any adversities
26:10through the might
26:12of Jesus Christ
26:13our Lord.
26:14Amen.
26:18O Lord,
26:20our heavenly Father,
26:21almighty
26:21and everlasting God
26:22who has safely
26:24brought us
26:25to the beginning
26:25of this day
26:27defend us
26:28in the same
26:29with thy mighty power
26:30and grant that
26:32this day
26:32we fall into no sin
26:34neither run
26:35into any kind
26:36of danger
26:38but that all
26:39our doings
26:40may be ordered
26:41according
26:41to thy governors
