00:00It looks like the trade season's already begun.
00:02You had a big move from Quentin Nelson,
00:04one of the better offensive linemen in the leagues.
00:06He ended up getting traded from the Colts because the Colts stink.
00:09And they are not taking any crap right now.
00:12Did you say, who's the wide receiver who's already firing himself off?
00:15Yeah, Josh Downs, who was a North Carolina guy, played with Drake May.
00:19He's in his fourth year.
00:21He's the man that a trade, little guy, 5'9", $1.71.
00:24But he's young.
00:25He's, you know, career, 224 catches, 11 touchdowns.
00:29What did you think about?
00:30I wonder if Drake likes him.
00:31That would be the first question.
00:32Drake, what do you think of this guy?
00:33Well, so let's start with that because I've got a list of players
00:36that right now have been linked to New England.
00:39Ones that this is just all from the talking heads out there,
00:43the insiders who are saying, you know, this person might be available,
00:46and I believe it would be a benefit to the Patriots for them
00:48to at least pick up the phone and call.
00:51And, Ted, I want to get your and Ken's take on whether you think this is somebody
00:55and how much you would give up for them.
00:56Let's start with Josh Downs.
00:58Josh Downs, as you were saying, obviously he's got a thing with Mac Jones as well.
01:02He's a pretty reliable underneath receiver.
01:05I guess there's reported interest from the Patriots.
01:10What would you give up for Josh Downs,
01:12and is that a position that you would want to go after right now
01:15with wide receivers, seeing that you've got a lot of guys
01:16who are going to be returning from injury?
01:18I would not.
01:19I would just continue to elevate Efton Chisholm.
01:23You know, Demario Douglas is supposed to be your kind of short-to-intermediate guy,
01:28so I think they have two guys already that would fill that name.
01:32The problem with that position is you bring it in.
01:35A lot of these guys, hell, we talk about veteran receivers that come in here
01:39and you can't pick up the system, let alone young guys like that.
01:42But just off the street, I just don't think it works.
01:45They made a trade for, what was it, Mohamed Sanu for second round.
01:50How did that work out?
01:51That was Brady demanding it.
01:52Antonio Brown came in, right, via trade after the trade deadline.
01:55I think you saw how that worked out.
01:57It's just very rarely does that position work out in Josh McDaniel's offense.
02:01All right, let's talk about a position I think that you mentioned earlier,
02:04and that is edge rusher.
02:05You mentioned edge rusher, right?
02:06That was one too?
02:07D-tackle edge.
02:08What about from a team that no one thought would be as bad as they are right now,
02:13the Chargers?
02:14What about Khalil Mack?
02:17Man, I feel like, I mean, it was his 20th year for Khalil Mack.
02:21I mean, I wonder how many years.
02:22It feels like he's been around for a long time.
02:25You know, maybe, yeah.
02:27He's 35.
02:29I would definitely, if you can get, like, for a sixth rounder.
02:33So I'm looking here.
02:34Six or seven.
02:34And it sounds like he would be expected to go for, like, a fifth or sixth rounder.
02:40And I guess Chicago has called, or at least there's a report that Chicago's been interested
02:44in Khalil Mack.
02:45A fifth or sixth rounder is kind of what's being floated around.
02:49Would you give that up for Khalil Mack?
02:51For a seventh rounder, I would consider it.
02:53I feel like they kind of had this profile of player available to him before the season started.
02:58That was Javion Clowney, who had, like, nine sacks last year for what he basically plays
03:03for one year for a team and then goes on to the next team.
03:06I almost feel like that was, he fits that profile.
03:08And they didn't go for Javion.
03:10And hell, Vrabes used to coach Javion in Houston.
03:13So I don't think they'll go for him.
03:14But I would definitely throw a seventh rounder for it.
03:17A couple things here, though.
03:18First of all, they have no cap space, which you can always get around by giving some guy
03:23bonus money up front and spreading out the deal, right?
03:25Yep.
03:26Would they do that, though?
03:27And that goes hand-in-hand with that.
03:28Remember that clip we played yesterday, Rich, where Vrabel was like, maybe we're just stuck
03:32with what we got in some places?
03:34Yeah.
03:34I don't know that Vrabel's convinced ownership will let him do anything like this.
03:38But then the other part of it is, okay, let's say they do.
03:40Would you want to trade for an old guy?
03:42Or really, should you be trading for a Josh Downs type who at least you know you're going
03:46to keep for a few years and be part of Drake May's future?
03:50I feel like if you're going to give up, like, a fifth or sixth round pick, that's not nothing.
03:54What's the point of Khalil Mack for half a year, you know?
03:57It's another Harold Landry.
03:59But you guys got to understand, do you think the Patriots feel like they are Super Bowl
04:02contenders?
04:03I don't know what they know about the health of Matt Collins and Romeo Dobbs.
04:08If those guys are coming back, I think you're as good as anybody in the AFC.
04:11I would think so, and that's why I think you stay away from Downs.
04:14I believe, and if that's what the Patriots also are thinking, is that these guys are going
04:19to get healthy.
04:20Because if all the receivers are healthy, you've got a good receiving crew.
04:24You do.
04:25As long as A.J. Brown, of course, gets back to what we all thought he was going to be
04:29and doesn't stop dropping everything and gets thrown to him.
04:31Yeah, I mean, I think you've got enough.
04:33But you're right.
04:33When it comes to edge rushers, that's where I think you kind of got to start maybe looking
04:37around and making some phone calls.
04:38One guy I thought about, I don't know if he's on your list, they're going to play him
04:40this week, is Josh Uche.
04:41He's having a pretty good year with Miami.
04:44What?
04:44And I haven't watched him.
04:46I can't say I like him, but he's great.
04:47He used to be, the guy that used to be here, Josh Uche?
04:49Yeah, would you ever, could you think about bringing him back for help?
04:51No, no.
04:52Why, you didn't like him?
04:52Oh, no, no.
04:53Did not like him.
04:54He's great.
04:54He's 76.4 rating on PFF right now.
04:57You didn't know.
04:58Uh-uh.
04:58And the Dolphins are looking to rebuild.
05:00Of course, you don't want to trade in the division.
05:01Anything good?
05:01He's on the Dolphins right now?
05:03He's on the Dolphins.
05:03Yeah.
05:04Well, the Dolphins suck.
05:05And so he's a good player on a sucky team?
05:07No.
05:08Don't jinx him into a good game Sunday.
05:10I'm just saying, man.
05:11No, no.
05:12By the way, speaking of exes, ex-players, have you heard about what's going on with Matthew Judon?
05:16Oh, yeah.
05:17He's got like two women living with him.
05:19Really?
05:20And they're making videos together.
05:21Two baby mamas.
05:22What kind of videos?
05:23It's like they're, like they're, he's basically almost.
05:26They're cooking and in the kitchen.
05:28They're holding babies.
05:29Oh, yeah.
05:30It's like he's got two wives almost.
05:32Yeah.
05:32You know, two women living there working with him.
05:34Mormon wives, the Judon edition.
05:35Right.
05:35They're like sharing Matthew Judon and they're super happy about it.
05:38Yeah.
05:38Yeah.
05:39It's very, very strange.
05:40Let's go to Steve.
05:40Get him back then.
05:41He's on fire.
05:42Sure.
05:42Why not?
05:43He wouldn't be distracted at all.
05:45By the way, I've heard that before.
05:46Everyone's always like, oh, how great would it be to have all these wives?
05:48I was like, are you kidding me?
05:50It's a lot.
05:51One's enough.
05:52Yeah.
05:52One's perfectly fine.
05:54I don't know why you would want to deal with all of that.
05:56Let's go to Steve online too.
05:57Steve, what's up, buddy?
05:57How you doing?
05:59Good.
05:59Hey, guys.
06:00I don't like the Josh Downs thing.
06:01I don't, I don't know if he really elevates the wide receiver group.
06:04I don't think it's worth going for that.
06:06Like he kind of fits in with like the rest of the guys.
06:08And if anybody just has to learn the whole playbook, I think you got to elevate like the
06:10edge rusher, if you're bringing in, you know, somebody there, it's worth it.
06:13You know, you need the depth there or running back.
06:16I think they could win now.
06:18I think they should try to win now.
06:19I think they got everything else that they need.
06:20They just got to elevate a couple of those, you know, positions of need, like edge rusher
06:24and running back.
06:25I don't think Ramondre's doing it.
06:26Travion's not doing it.
06:27And obviously the edge needs help.
06:28But I don't think Josh Downs is the answer.
06:30I just, I don't think he elevates the wide receiver group.
06:32I agree with you.
06:33And a good call.
06:33To get an elite running back, you're going to have to give up, you know, whatever.
06:37I don't know.
06:37Fourth, third, fourth.
06:38Fourth, and they've already given away their first rounder to get A.J. Brown.
06:41So they're all about value, right?
06:43And they love their draft picks.
06:45So I find it hard to believe that they would give up a high draft pick for anybody.
06:49So Jeremy Fowler from ESPN gives a 30% chance to Jonathan Taylor being traded.
06:57Oh, really?
06:57Yep.
06:58Not to the Patriots, but being traded.
07:01Now, he's somebody right now who is in the middle of a two-year, $44 million extension.
07:07So if they make a trade for him, Patriots are on the hook for a lot of cash.
07:12Would you consider, because Jonathan Taylor, obviously one of the premier running backs
07:16in the league, but he's also been in the league for, I think you looked it up, seven years,
07:19Ted?
07:21Seven years on a running back is a lot.
07:23Might as well be 15.
07:24Yeah, exactly.
07:26But he's still playing well.
07:28As a matter of fact, in 2026, you know, 587 rushing yards, eight rushing touchdowns,
07:3317 receptions, 178 receiving yards through seven games.
07:37Dude, not bad.
07:38Not bad at all.
07:40Would you consider that?
07:40I wonder what Vrabel thinks about, because obviously he played with Derrick Henry,
07:43and that was like, that defined his teams there for a while.
07:46Does he want to go back to that?
07:47Or does he think we don't need a bell cow back?
07:50Like, people downgrade play the importance of a running back in the league,
07:53but then Kenneth Walker's made such a difference for the Chiefs.
07:56But because Mahomes is on the downside, you know, he's on the downside of his career, I think.
08:03So that's where you go.
08:05It would be stupid if you had a Derrick Henry-type running back to go along with a young,
08:15phenomenal quarterback.
08:15You don't want to be, you know, this team does not want to be a run-heavy team
08:20with a quarterback like Drake.
08:22And by the way, Vrabel ran Derrick Henry into the ground.
08:26Well, how about the trivia question Ted posed during the break?
08:28Who's got the most carries in the league right now?
08:30And it's Derrick Henry by a long shot, right?
08:32Dude, he's got 147 carries.
08:35So he's still running into the ground.
08:37He's already got 70 more carries than Ramondre Stevenson had through seven games.
08:43I mean, I'm looking at his numbers.
08:44So he became, while Vrabel was there with the Titans, Henry became one of the most
08:49heavily used running backs in NFL history.
08:51And you take a look at just how many carries that he's had.
08:54Like, he was averaging 28 carries a game in 2021.
08:59That's insane.
09:00Dude, it's insane.
09:01He's averaging 21 this year.
09:02He'd be on pace for 357 carries.
09:05Jeez, man.
09:05So, yeah.
09:06But, I mean, listen, he's still effective.
09:07But at some point, man, you know, the mileage catches up.
09:12So, especially if you brought A.J. Brown in here, who some people thought he was on the
09:16decline already.
09:17I mean, I don't know how you'd say that because the last five years he's had over a thousand
09:21yard catch.
09:21But you're not going to give draft picks, I think, to guys that are older after what
09:26they've seen from A.J. Brown so far.
09:27Yeah, you might be right.
