00:00Hey, Adam, thanks for coming on, bud.
00:01We appreciate it.
00:01What is going on, gentlemen?
00:03Happy Wednesday to you.
00:04Yes, happy Wednesday to you as well.
00:06And it's got to be – I mean, this has got to be the busy season for you
00:10because it looks like trades are already being made this far ahead of the deadline.
00:16That's not surprising.
00:17It always happens.
00:18And if we look at the activity in the NFL over the last five or so years,
00:23especially the last few, there's been a tremendous uptick in trade activity.
00:28I would expect that to continue.
00:29We saw it this week with the Colts.
00:31And it'll keep going until the trade deadline on Tuesday, November 10th.
00:35So are you hearing any Patriots rumors that they are considering
00:40or have already picked up the phone regarding any trades?
00:43I have not heard specifically.
00:45Like, these things just happen sometimes.
00:47I have not heard them repeatedly connected to any one player.
00:52That doesn't mean they're not going to make a trade.
00:53But, like, the 49ers heard them in on DeForest Buckner.
00:59You know, I heard the Seahawks on Quentin Nelson.
01:01You hear the Chiefs, the Steelers on Josh Downs.
01:04You know, there are certain things you hear.
01:06I have not heard specifically the Patriots connected to somebody,
01:10which doesn't mean that they're not making calls.
01:12I'm sure they are.
01:13But it's just they're being quiet, and it doesn't seem like it's this urgent effort
01:16to go get somebody right now.
01:18Adam, how do you think the receiver position is for the Patriots now?
01:22And in particular with A.J. Brown, the marriage hasn't started the best.
01:25Obviously, he's hurt and coming back from it.
01:27But how do you think that, if it all plays into their future wide receiver here?
01:31Look, I think they've invested a lot there,
01:33and I think they've gotten some good play there.
01:37Could you be looking at more always?
01:41I don't know.
01:42I think I'd be surprised.
01:43Like, they could use depth elsewhere.
01:46Not that they couldn't use a wide receiver,
01:48but I think that they have more glaring needs in my mind,
01:51and we'll see how they decide to handle it at the deadline.
01:55Adam, I'm curious if the NFL has ever contemplated helping out,
02:02doing more research,
02:04or talking about the in-game management of some of these games.
02:08I mean, the Jets last week had a big gaffe.
02:10It's just the quality of managing these games is so bad,
02:15and you think they're always trying to figure out
02:16how to make the game better, more entertaining.
02:18But it's not entertaining to watch these game management stuff.
02:21But that's on the teams, right?
02:23That's not the NFL's problem.
02:25Teams are NFL, you know.
02:27Yeah, and some teams manage it very well,
02:29and that's an advantage to the teams that do.
02:32So, I mean, that's a team organization issue.
02:36So, like, again, I haven't looked at it, but I'm going to imagine
02:39that the Patriots don't have too many screw-ups around clock management
02:43in the final two minutes.
02:44Am I right?
02:45They do not, but they're inching closer, too.
02:48They play too close to the vest, in my opinion.
02:51But, yeah, I just think the quality of these games
02:54are just kind of hard to watch
02:56because of how bad the coaching is
02:58in some of these in-game management stuff.
03:00Well, I always remember, you know,
03:02there have been people that have said
03:03that 75% of the teams in the league beat themselves.
03:06And that's an example of it, right?
03:08Like, there are certain teams that just don't handle
03:11those situations and spots well,
03:13and it shows up, and I think that's what you're referring to.
03:16But, again, to the ones that do handle it correctly,
03:20that's a decided advantage,
03:21and that goes to show and prove the importance of coaching.
03:26Yeah, without a question.
03:28I mean, it's definitely been very strange
03:30how there's just been so much of it lately.
03:32And to be quite honest,
03:34I just want to circle real quick back
03:35to something we were talking about earlier
03:37with some of these trades.
03:39Is there a name out there that you're hearing?
03:41Like, what is the biggest name in the NFL
03:42that could realistically be traded before November 10th
03:44that might shock fans?
03:46Well, I think the Jonathan Taylor one is interesting.
03:49I just think it's out there,
03:51and it's not going anywhere anytime soon.
03:54Do I think that they'll trade him?
03:55I don't think they want to,
03:57but, look, I think if they're going to trade
03:59the first Buckner and Quinton Nelson,
04:01they get the right offer.
04:02Well, you're not listening.
04:04So we'll see how that one goes.
04:06That's certainly a big name that's out there right now.
04:10You know, Josh Downs, again, good receiver,
04:13but with everything that's happened, Andy.
04:14So I think it's more that team than it is one name,
04:18but the great part about the trade deadline is,
04:21you know, if we were having this conversation last year,
04:23I would not have given you the name Sauce Gardner.
04:26I would not have given you the name Quinton Williams,
04:28and both of them wound up being traded
04:30on the last day of the trade deadline.
04:32And I do think that there'll be events that unfold here,
04:36games that are played, games that are lost,
04:39teams that start sliding in the next two weeks,
04:41that it might influence and impact
04:43the way they approach the Tuesday,
04:45November 10th trade deadline.
04:47And, you know, Jonathan Taylor's interesting
04:49because we were discussing before you came on
04:51what, you know, positions the Patriots
04:53might be interested in making some sort of trade for,
04:56and running back is one of them.
04:58Do you think that, obviously you mentioned
05:01you haven't heard anything from the Patriots,
05:02but do you think that's someone that they would consider?
05:04And if so, what would it take to get Jonathan Taylor?
05:07Multiple picks, you know, premium package.
05:10Don't see them doing it.
05:12Like, I think that they really like
05:14Ramondre Stevenson and Trayvon Henderson.
05:16And Corey Conner's played well.
05:17Like, they have other needs.
05:19I don't see this team as a team that's going to go
05:23allocate a tremendous amount of resources
05:26to the running back position now.
05:28I just don't see that.
05:30Hey, Adam, it was made public that Mike Vrabel
05:32was fined $250,000 by the league,
05:35and he appears to be upset by this.
05:37He has said the league seems to have plenty to say about it.
05:40These things are supposed to be held in strict confidence.
05:42Do you know what happened there?
05:43And, you know, does it surprise you Mike's upset?
05:46No.
05:48You know, listen, I think that sometimes,
05:51you know, in this world,
05:53none of it should be surprising or disappointing
05:55that it gets out when it comes to fines.
05:57A lot of the stuff just gets out.
05:59And I don't know how or why.
06:00I mean, it's what I do for a living.
06:02And sometimes I have an explanation
06:05as to why something got out,
06:06and sometimes I can't.
06:08So he didn't like that it came out.
06:11And I understand that.
06:13But that's the deal.
06:14And I think, you know,
06:16whoever leaked the information
06:17probably wants to send a message, you know,
06:19put these guys on blast,
06:21you know, don't be doing this again.
06:23Otherwise, you're going to pay the price
06:26financially and publicly.
06:28So, Adam, we've kind of had some fun
06:30with the NFL's new Hawkeye
06:32virtual measurement technology that they've had.
06:34And it seems now that they've got it,
06:36it almost seems like it takes as long as it did
06:39just to bring the chains out.
06:40But I also was saying that I don't know
06:42if it really solved the problem
06:43because I was like, you know,
06:45we've got this technology,
06:46but we're still relying on a human official
06:47to decide where to put the ball
06:49in the first place.
06:50So, like, how far away are we
06:52from eliminating that human judgment
06:53and having technology spot the football itself?
06:56You know, I would have thought
06:59that it might be a little bit more accurate,
07:02but I understand your point.
07:05I don't know, maybe we'll ask AI
07:06where it should be spotted to the centimeter
07:08and then they can go spot the ball that way.
07:11But I don't know.
07:12Look, as soon as there's technology
07:15that can do that,
07:15I'm sure the NFL will implement it.
07:17Yeah, I mean, a chip in the ball,
07:19wouldn't you think that would take care of it?
07:23That could work, too.
07:24Yeah.
07:25It does seem kind of easy.
07:26It's right.
07:26What do you think of the halftime show, Adam?
07:28Jay-Z calling his own number.
07:34I, you know,
07:36I think there are very few people
07:38that they could have chosen
07:39that I would have been like,
07:40boy, I'm really fired up about this guy.
07:42Like, just not the world I live in.
07:43You know, but it seems like,
07:45I don't know what's been the reaction.
07:46I'll ask you guys.
07:47You would have a better pulse of that than I would.
07:50Well, there was a rumor going around
07:52that Papa Roach was actually going to be the halftime show
07:55and they might actually collaborate.
07:57That's the rumor going around.
07:59I don't know if you heard that.
08:00I have not heard that.
08:01Yeah.
08:02I have not heard.
08:03And I don't know anything about,
08:05you know,
08:06it's just not my jurisdiction,
08:08not my racket, so to speak.
08:11What is Adam Schefter's dream halftime show?
08:14Well, I would have loved to have seen Taylor Swift,
08:16to be honest with you.
08:17Like, I think she's unbelievable as a performer.
08:21But, yeah.
08:22I was just saying she does,
08:23but as you know that,
08:24and I guess Jay-Z doesn't need it either,
08:26and just because they don't get paid to do it,
08:29they usually do it for some sort of promotion.
08:31I don't know.
08:31I still don't understand what would inspire somebody to do it
08:34if they're already one of the biggest bands in the world.
08:36You know, it's almost like,
08:37just seems like a ton of pressure, doesn't it?
08:39Well, I think it's a little bit of a badge of honor
08:42and something that you could say you've done.
08:46You know, by the way,
08:48I don't know, maybe it's a bad analogy,
08:49but I don't think there's any financial prize
08:52that comes along with winning the Pulitzer Prize
08:54or an Emmy,
08:55and you'd love to win one of those
08:56because it's a cool thing.
08:59So I would imagine that performing at the Super Bowl
09:01is about as big as it gets.
09:04Even if they don't make money,
09:05it's something that you'll always remember
09:07and something that will always be on your resume.
09:09Not that you need it on your resume to get a job,
09:11but you understand what I'm saying.
09:12It's a part of your accomplishments,
09:14and I don't know,
09:16it's a very cool thing to me.
09:17Yeah.
09:17No, listen,
09:18this one should be an interesting one.
09:19I just,
09:20are they going to,
09:21do you think Jay-Z would put a rock band in there?
09:24Outside of Papa Roach, of course.
09:25It just,
09:26it seems like ever since he's taken over,
09:28there hasn't been a lot of rock bands,
09:29but, you know,
09:30then again,
09:30the last few rock bands like Maroon 5
09:32haven't been great.
09:33So do you think he would ever put a rock band in?
09:37I honestly don't know.
09:39I don't know what he's going to do with it.
09:42I would think that he'll have access
09:43to some of the greatest musical action.
09:46Whatever he wants to do,
09:47he's going to do.
09:48But I'm not smart enough to figure out
09:50Jay-Z's thinking.
09:51I've got a problem with my own thinking.
09:53All right.
09:53Well, Adam Schefter,
09:54thanks for coming on with us, man.
09:55We really appreciate it,
09:56and I know you're going to be very busy
09:57over the next couple of weeks,
09:59and maybe,
10:00just maybe,
10:00the Patriots might surprise you.
10:02That would be interesting.
10:04Yeah.
10:04I'm not saying I'll be surprised.
10:05I'm just saying I haven't heard them
10:07connected directly to somebody just yet.
10:09That doesn't mean they won't make a move.
10:11They're definitely good,
10:11but it hasn't jumped out just yet.
10:14That's all.
10:15All right.
10:16Awesome.
10:16Well, thanks, Adam.
10:17We appreciate you coming on.
10:18Thanks.
10:18Thank you, everybody.
10:18Have a great day.
10:19Bye.
