00:00yeah yeah don't tell me you're a karaoke guy uh i mean i've done it before it's not like uh
00:05my go-to
00:05or first thing but you know he replayed his version of train this morning yeah i don't know
00:09what was better uh his lead singing or you giggling yeah i well i'll just tell you he is
00:14he's a karaoke person like he is he loves to karaoke so he comes by it naturally i don't
00:21not my thing but um there are people who love it and chime is certainly one i like when people
00:26look
00:26at me as well yes we we are aware of that you are you like the attention shine yes um
00:32so uh this this
00:35team currently uh first wild card spot as we sit here this morning but uh they have the toughest
00:42remaining schedule in the nhl uh so it it seems like from the outside one or two losses and you
00:50may be uh you may be out playoff wise they're grinding away um what are they five three and
00:57three since the olympic break and they've definitely cobbled together some points uh it was certainly
01:03uh good that they were able to pick up four of six on that road trip i think that game
01:08in new jersey
01:08that's the one where you think about okay there's a point that got away there uh but i think marco
01:14sturm and everybody else you know and and i think we probably felt the same way in montreal that
01:19you know that was a pretty gutsy effort third game in four nights you're playing back to back against
01:24a team in montreal that was sitting there and waiting for you um and you're able to put together
01:29um you know a really good outing and pick up a point against the canadians one of the things that
01:34we've kind of been talking about all year is just you know what are some of these like
01:40breakdowns and just the scheme or how how like the bruins are playing and so the i guess the
01:48question that that i'm trying to get answered is when you see these late game breakdowns turnovers
01:54things like that you know lack of focus is that more about the players or more about the coaching
02:01not having maybe guys prepared for the end of game situations i don't know if i've necessarily seen
02:07that here lately wiggy like if you look at what happened in new jersey i think the issue for the
02:11team is the bruins they got off to a great start that was a terrific opening 20 minutes but one
02:17of
02:17the things that in listening to david poster knocker marco sturm or even pavel zaka talk about after that
02:23game the bruins came out and started turning over pucks at the start of the second period the start of
02:27the second period and that fed exactly into what new jersey's game is and that's a speed transition
02:34rush attack game and the bruins thanks to david poster knock who was terrific that night he was
02:40the best player on the ice scored twice and helped the bruins forge a point but i can't think of
02:44here lately where the bruins have had an issue like you're talking about whether it's uh with game
02:50management or or unable to execute late in the game that that's cost them see i think it's a little
02:56bit of both um you know whether it's the coaches or the players um i think it was more like
03:03for me
03:03it was a sloppy play like the mcavoy turnover was like one of those plays that led to the three
03:08on
03:08two in the new jersey game where i'm just wondering like there are things like that you wonder and you
03:13say okay is that the player or is does the coach get got to make sure like guys get a
03:17little bit
03:17more focused towards in critical situations charlie owned that after the game um one of the things that
03:23he said is you know i know better uh in that situation i think you know anytime coaches look at
03:29the
03:29blue lines whether it's five feet uh just before it or five feet after it those are typically called
03:34the danger zone so anytime you see turnovers happen that's when transition takes place and it gets a
03:40team like new jersey or a team like montreal that really features a lot of speed and skill that's
03:45where you really have to be careful i think for the bruins overall uh and again they've been grinding
03:49so if you look at what made the team successful to this point that's put them in a playoff spot
03:55goaltending power play uh stingy and hard to play against the one thing that has has not been there
04:01since the olympic break has been the man advantage it was essentially top five uh basically all season
04:08until the olympic break but since the olympic break it's drifted near the bottom that's the area that
04:13they really need if they're able to fix that you saw the bruins score to open uh the game in
04:19montreal that maybe they can build on a little bit of that here tonight against the jets do you feel
04:24that there are any meaningful adjustments that they can make through the rest of this tough schedule
04:30to improve their defensive play i think defensively they've been pretty good and the goaltending has
04:35been outstanding i i want to say that the bruins and there was a great stat that was in the
04:39athletic
04:39today that jeremy swaman of all the goaltenders in the league is leading the league in what is called
04:44quality starts by the analytics community um but i think defensively the bruins have been pretty sound
04:50they have really cut down uh on the amount of minor penalties that they have taken i think they
04:55were only shorthanded once the other night against the montreal canadians um they are near the bottom
05:01in overall penalty minutes taken since the olympic break and i think that's helped them also five on
05:06five what you'd like to be able to do and this goes back to your point wiggy um when it
05:11comes to puck
05:12management can the bruins get pucks deeper they are built to grind teams down low so megan and answer your
05:18question when you have those opportunities if you can't carry the puck in cleanly with possession
05:23get those pucks deep and start to grind away that's the way the bruins are built any meaningful
05:29adjustments they can make to stop coughing up leads like as what what would it be would would
05:34they need seven like a seven eight goal lead is a is that what you would advise maybe you know
05:40i i
05:41understand you know if we look you know here in the last couple of games but if we look uh
05:46in the
05:46if we if you look in the wider picture i think the bruins they're unbeaten in regulation uh when
05:52they take a lead into the third period yeah uh has it always looked clean and perfect no but i
05:57think
05:57that's the case for a lot of teams and for the most part they have done a good job of
06:01managing games
06:02late when they've been tight they've been pretty good um but i i think in the bigger picture you know
06:08because the margins are so slim for this team to be able to get into the playoffs so you start
06:13to think
06:14about were there other games that maybe got away from them early in the season yes um where they
06:23had an opportunity to manage the game a little bit better i mean you can go all the way back
06:26to
06:27october against the florida panthers or a game at madison square garden where the bruins had a lead
06:31late in the third period and it got away from them but there have been other times where they've been
06:36able to rally and cobble together points and and at this point that's what it's about let me get your
06:41opinion on this because you brought up the devils jack hughes wants his puck back from uh from the
06:47hall of fame um and the man we owe him a debt of gratitude for uh for the the gold
06:53medal um does
06:55that puck belong to him the hockey hall of fame says they will not give it back uh that does
07:01not belong
07:02is the hockey hall of fame in canada yes well then that's our great does dougman cave it still have
07:09the 0-4 ball because that was a real waste i don't know but does the it's an interesting question
07:14because does does the the memorabilia item belong to the player who accomplished the feat or does it
07:24belong to the game belongs to the player it does belongs to the player the player is the one who
07:28scored
07:29that goal that's his puck and you know shocking take from wiki well but that's but that's what it
07:33is we've seen at the end of whether it's basketball games football games you know guys run and get the
07:38ball so they can give it to to that specific player and i think in this situation that puck should
07:44go to
07:45the to that player how does it work with home run balls because we've seen guys in the past like
07:49they
07:49hit you know some milestone home they have to pay the person and then security goes and grabs it but
07:54does the player then get the ball or does that go well sometimes the team will reward the fan to
07:59get
08:00the ball back for the player but it's for the player the player is the one who accomplished that
08:04feat he's the one that accomplished that feat he's the one who hit the home run he's the one who
08:10scored
08:11the goal he's the one who scored the touchdown made the shot that should go to him when tom brady
08:17threw his i forget what it was touchdown and then mike evans threw it into the stands
08:22that ball belongs to the player for his accomplishment it should not belong to a museum
08:30first that seems stupid to me it should be private ownership and then the person who accomplished the
08:36great feat should decide whether or not in time they want to donate to a museum yeah it's a great
08:42debate you know i know that uh i saw jack's original comments you know about you know that should be
08:47my
08:47puck i believe that he changed his tune the other day uh and maybe uh was a little bit um
08:55more
08:55conciliatory where he understood why the hockey hall of fame would want that puck i don't know it's a
09:00really good argument who has the puck from 2011 bergy marshy timmy thomas who's got it
09:05but it's the same way with the jersey right you go down the patriots place in gillette and you see
09:11you know like a game worn brady jersey is in the hall of fame i feel like that's that player's
09:17jersey
09:17if he wants to then donate it right back to the organization so they can put it in you know
09:23some
09:24type of you know glass case then that should be on the player not them saying well you play for
09:29our
09:29team it's technically our jersey texter says possession is nine tenths of the law so they have
09:34it do you remember that loser we had on greg that like knocked kids out of the way to catch
09:37foul balls
09:38in the stands yes christian arcane
09:43i had a real i had a question for jack because we were talking about this the other day um
09:49on whether
09:50this was a rebuild a retool how does the how do the bruins look at this season as more of
09:58a retool
09:58or do they feel like they're rebuilding how about reset okay um you know they're all sorts of r words
10:04i
10:04think the whole idea was wiggy that they felt at the start of the season that this should be a
10:09playoff team that's what don sweeney and cam neely had talked about at the start of the season and
10:13right now they're certainly in that position that was always their goal to be able to get back into
10:18the playoffs where i think the reset had to take place was with the culture i think we had talked
10:22about at the beginning of the season that with a lot of core pieces that were moved out and certainly
10:28if you if you back up and look at hey some of the guys that the bruins have had to
10:32replace over
10:33the years that they needed to recapture maybe another r word some of the culture that they had
10:38and i think that they've been able to do that for the most part you know if you talk to
10:41the gm don
10:42sweeney and some of the guys around the bruins what it was like early in the season it maybe took
10:46a
10:46while to figure out how the leadership was going to be able to function that's not an issue uh at
10:51this
10:51point you know and if you look since january 1st the bruins have been one of the best teams
10:55in the national hockey league the hard time they they've had a hard time however gaining ground because so
11:01many of the teams in the east have been just as good so i i think it's a reset but
11:06they also had
11:07to repopulate uh the roster with a lot of talent um you know i think that that was the whole
11:13idea i
11:13could keep going with the r words but they needed to take a look at at what they had in
11:19their system
11:19um picks prospects they've been able to do that uh and i think that that was part of the reason
11:25that
11:25you saw the bruins for the most part uh stay fairly quiet here at the trade deadline because there
11:30was no need to trade some of those commodities to get a rental here uh to just get you over
11:35the
11:35hump and in the playoffs because i think there's a bigger goal so we should just relax well i mean
11:41they basically have to win out yeah so uh and i don't know if they have to basically win out
11:47you
11:47know as we talked about the last time we were here if you can get to 100 points that usually
11:52is
11:53uh the marker that will get you in the playoffs it's not going to be easy so i think at
11:58that point when
11:59we were here last week that was 11 and 7 in their last 18 games uh to this point i
12:04think they are
12:05what um you know they've still been able to put together points but but they they need they need
12:10to go further i want to say they now have to go nine and five here down the stretch okay
12:14nine and five
12:15and they have to be able to win on the road yes and they have some they have some difficult
12:20road
12:21games coming up here um you know after uh after they play the jets they're going to go on the
12:26road
12:27against detroit detroit by the way playing montreal tonight that's a game um if you want to kind of
12:32keep an eye on that's going to really impact the bruins and they're going to have to go to columbus
12:36twice that's the team that's right behind them in the standings the other thing to keep in mind
12:42because the margins are so slim in the eastern conference keep an eye on on the tiebreaker so the
12:49first tiebreaker in the national hockey league is regulation wins and at this point right now the
12:55bruins have more regulation wins than detroit and columbus and if the islanders slip down
13:01add them into the mix all right judd great to see you great to see you guys all right
