00:00The 49ers, they watch what the Seahawks do and they raise them.
00:06And so, two guys who've probably gone together and against one another in practice for the better part of five
00:12years on a daily,
00:14now get to just jump right in to the Seahawks-49ers rivalry.
00:18They'll see each other again here in about a month at Levi's Stadium.
00:22DeForest Buckner is home for a fourth round pick.
00:27A guy who many, a 49er fan, if not all of us, have wished in our private moments that he
00:33never left.
00:34And now, he's back right alongside Debo, alongside Dre Greenlaw for a team that is 6-1 and still the
00:42favorite to win the Super Bowl.
00:44They do it with two and a half weeks still to go in the deadline.
00:48Those of you who were worried about the 49ers being aggressive at the deadline, how are you feeling?
00:53There was no doubt that the 49ers were going to be active and the deadline is not even here yet.
01:00So, I absolutely believe there's a strong possibility more is on the way.
01:07You never needed to worry about these Niners knowing that they were a part of the postseason picture.
01:13So, here we go.
01:14And I add in, this is one of the easiest teams to root for I have ever experienced in my
01:20whole life.
01:21I'm addicted to this story.
01:22I'm addicted to the way this team plays football.
01:25The only bad part about this is we've got to wait a week and a half to see it.
01:29Right, right.
01:30I mean, we have to wait.
01:31But, I mean, DeForest Buckner is back.
01:33And you knew they'd make a move.
01:34And it's interesting because as the trade broke this morning about Quentin Nelson to Seattle,
01:39and I'm driving around, you know, picking up this and that and doing my thing.
01:43And my phone is, and I'm like, okay, I'm not checking it now because I'm driving.
01:48When I parked, I was like, oh, my God, Seattle did that.
01:51And as I was about to text, you know, the Colts are open for business.
01:56You said, looks like the Colts are open for business.
01:59And I was like, okay, they're open for business.
02:01So, like, who's going to be traded next and to whom?
02:05And so I was thinking, you know what?
02:06They've got a couple of defensive linemen that the Niners might want.
02:09And they got one of them, and they might get the other one, too.
02:12And there's no two ways about it.
02:13This is a bigger need for them than left guard.
02:16I know Connor Colby has given up a few things here and there in the past game.
02:19He's done well in the run game.
02:21But the 49ers, first of all, philosophically, you know how they build a roster.
02:26They build a roster where the defensive line is the core of what they do.
02:30And if you look at when this team has made the Super Bowl in the past,
02:33that is exactly what they do.
02:35Look at their drafts the last few years.
02:38Look at what they're doing in free agency.
02:40Look at what they're doing in trades with Osa Odigizua.
02:44They brought in Mikel Williams.
02:45They brought in Grayson Halton.
02:47They traded last year for Keon White.
02:49They're doing it again, and they're hoping that Nick Bosa will be back soon.
02:52So this is the earth's core of the 49ers roster, and they're building around it again.
02:58And I'm not even convinced that they won't add another name to the defensive line.
03:02We will see.
03:03But I don't know any other way to say it than I love this.
03:08This was absolutely the bigger need to do it for a fourth-round pick.
03:12To me, it's child's play.
03:13This is an absolute no-brainer.
03:16And the 49ers are pushing all their chips into the middle of the table, as they should.
03:21But I think also still doing it in a way that's not stupid and preventative for other things,
03:27you know, structurally within the organization, just thrilled.
03:32This is a big move and the right move for the 49ers.
03:36And it's a big move, and it's not really, quote, all their chips.
03:39It's a few of their chips because, as you mentioned, it's a fourth-round pick,
03:43and it's a pick that if DeForest Buckner goes next year out in free agency,
03:47they might get a fourth-round pick back or a fifth or a third.
03:51I don't know how all of that works in terms of compensation.
03:54But right now, you bring a guy in on a one-year deal, and it's a half a year,
03:59and he's going to come in and immediately help you do what you absolutely need help doing,
04:05which is stop the run in the interior.
04:07Yeah, stop the run, go get the quarterback, be complimentary of one another.
04:12Again, Bosa, Osa, DeFo, and Mikel, or Keon, are you kidding me?
04:20I mean, players we like are getting moved to the bench.
04:23Grayson Halton has had a wonderful—
04:25Grayson and Romello.
04:26Yes, Romello height.
04:28And so now these guys can all rotate in, stay fresh, and make the team feel better.
04:34If there's another injury or two, you can still put in a really, really top-shelf defensive line out there.
04:42This is going to have an impact on the playoffs this year,
04:47the moves that the 49ers and Seahawks have just made.
04:50No doubt, and I think that the Seattle move, for me, is probably more impactful for what they needed
04:56because they've really struggled running the ball, and it's not only about Kenneth Walker and Zach Charbonnet.
05:02It's more about what they've had on their offensive line.
05:05So I think that that move—I don't know if that move was the reason why the Niners made this move.
05:09I think they would have made this move anyway, but the fact that the Quentin Nelson move happened this morning,
05:14and it's like, okay, boom, you've got a guy who's an eight-time pro bowler.
05:19He's a guard.
05:19He's one of the best players on the offensive line in football.
05:23And so, yeah, if you're the Niners, you're thinking, okay, we need to counter that.
05:27But they would have countered it anyway, I think, because they have that need.
05:30Yeah, absolutely.
05:31And I also love—I love that they didn't wait.
05:34You know what I mean?
05:35Like, the Colts signaled it, and the Seahawks and Niners were like, boom, let's do this.
05:41Let's do this.
05:42And I wonder if you even go now back into the offseason and think about this.
05:47This is where my brain kind of goes because I get it.
05:50When the Seahawks make a move and the Rams make a move, the 49er front office gets ripped.
05:56It's just a rule.
05:57It's like, well, why didn't you do that?
05:59Well, I don't know.
06:01Like, because they did that, and maybe that's not the price that either the Niners could pay
06:06or wanted to pay, or maybe not the thing that they felt in that moment was the right thing to
06:12do.
06:12So, the Rams got Miles Garrett, and the Niners get ripped.
06:16And the Colts get—and by the way, Miles Garrett, he barely played for them, and they're 3-4.
06:21The Seahawks get Quentin Nelson.
06:23Okay, I don't know if you've noticed, their offensive line has not performed anywhere near as good
06:27as the Niners' offensive line has.
06:29Well, and the Texans get Marvin Harrison Jr., and nobody's like, oh, my God, I can't believe
06:33you didn't go out there and get Marvin Harrison Jr.
06:35It's because, I mean, he was kind of broken, but at the same time, he's gone out there,
06:40and he's actually played a lot better than he did in Arizona.
06:43Like, the 49ers, one of the takes that I found to be head-scratching the last few weeks
06:50was anybody who was kind of like, they better be aggressive at the deadline.
06:53I'm like, I don't work there, but I don't have any questions at—like, none.
07:01There was a 0.0% chance that this Niner front office wasn't going to go do something of significance.
07:09They know this.
07:10They always do when they're in this position.
07:13Sometimes they do even when they're not in this position.
07:16I forget what their record was, 3-4 or some crap, when they went and got Christian McCaffrey.
07:213-3, yeah.
07:21You know what I mean?
07:22So, like, I had no doubt about that.
07:25Every year but two years, they've made a deal before the deadline, and the majority of the
07:30time, they've got a defensive lineman to come in.
07:33The one year, they got Emmanuel Sanders, and they got McCaffrey, and that was the year where
07:37they went to Atlanta, and they could not run the ball against the Falcons, and they lost
07:4128-14, and so they thought, you know what?
07:44We need a running back, and this year, much like last year and the year before, you need
07:48a defensive lineman, and so you go out there and you get it.
07:51Balance.
07:52This is the word that right now I'm looking for and that I'm feeling.
07:57Balance.
07:57It's the one thing that I—the reason why I love the Niners' chances to go all the way
08:04this year.
08:04I look around the league, and you can 6-0 Minnesota to me all you want.
08:10That is a one-sided football team.
08:12It is—the Seahawks right now, one of the reasons they did what they did today, they've
08:17been a one-sided football team.
08:20The Buffalo Bills are a one-sided football team.
08:25You need to be a both-sides football team.
08:29Those Dallas Cowboys, that's a one-sided football team.
08:33Why were the Raiders 3-0 and now they're 3-4?
08:36Because they're a one-sided football team.
08:39The Denver Broncos are a one-sided football team.
08:42The 49ers are making the effort today to be a two-sided football team, and I firmly believe
08:48that the team that wins the Super Bowl this year will be a two-sided football team.
08:52This team right now is threatening, if blessed with a little bit of health, in the second half
09:00of this season, they can throw something at you on both sides of the ball that can wreck
09:05the game.
09:06They have this in them.
09:08They have this in them.
09:09There are a few injuries, obviously, they cannot withstand, and you, fingers crossed,
09:13you hope they don't happen.
09:15But even the injuries that they have suffered are guys who are supposed to be coming back,
09:20and if they do, and if they play, this team is the most balanced team in the NFL, in my
09:25opinion.
09:25And if you look at the other teams that are equally balanced according to the advanced
09:30metrics, I'm looking at one, two, three, four of them are all in the AFC.
09:35It's the Bengals, it's the Patriots, it's the Ravens, it's the Jaguars.
09:39Interesting.
09:40And then you get to the Rams and you get to the Chiefs, but in general, like the most balanced
09:46teams, like good on offense, good on defense, they all are in the other conference.
09:50Yeah, there's no, the only other team in the NFC right now, I mean, Seattle is Seattle.
09:55I still think they can get there, and they're trying.
09:58And I wonder who you're going to say.
10:00Well, there's one team that I think right now has made some improvements in balance.
10:07I still feel like they're a year away, but they're a threat, and they're scary, and to
10:13me, they're the other team to watch, and that's the Chicago Bears.
10:19They're still much better on offense than they are on defense, but they're much better
10:24on defense than they were last year.
10:26Yep, yep.
10:27And Carolina actually is right there with them, and the other team would be Green Bay.
10:33Green Bay, a team that is, you know, better on defense than they are on offense for some
10:37weird reason, and so I do think that a lot of it comes down to venue and setting, and
10:43so if you can go out there and get the one seed, then, all right, Niners, go ahead, and
10:47we'll see you in L.A.
10:49Yeah, yeah.
10:50And look, the Niners' effort to do that is coming, and they've got time to be healthy
10:57when it does.
10:58I'm going to go ahead and cuckoo something right now.
11:01Ain't no way in hell that the Las Vegas Raiders are coming in here and winning that game.
11:07That's a no, period.
11:09It's a no from you?
11:10From me, dog.
11:10Dog?
11:11Okay, so, and Dallas, I mean, come on, man.
11:19Like, I get it.
11:20It's a road game.
11:21I know they've got high-powered weaponry.
11:24I get it.
11:26I will say with a little less cuckoo certainty, but I feel very strongly, once we start getting
11:33too far down, I'm like, well, wait a minute.
11:35Did someone get hurt in the Raider game?
11:36But I feel very good about that.
11:38It's after that that the 49ers' stretch that will determine whether or not they've got
11:44a shot at the one seed comes.
11:46Mexico against Minnesota and that defense.
11:48Seattle comes in here the very next week.
11:50You go on the road, cross-country for what could be a, I still can't figure the Giants
11:56out.
11:56They're at least a threat.
11:57They're a first-place team.
11:58And then you're back here for the Rams.
12:00That's November and early December for the 49ers this year.
12:05That's going to be that right there.
12:07To me, that stretch.
12:08And I know there's other tough games.
12:09I know you've got to go to Arrowhead later in the year.
12:12But to me, those four games determine whether or not the Niners can be the one seed this year.
12:16And it might be as simple as the Seattle game and the Minnesota game.
12:21I keep waiting for the Vikings to have that hiccup.
12:23But they haven't really had the hiccup.
12:25They're the only team still without a blemish in the loss column.
12:29But at the Niners right now, it's 6-1.
12:31And you've got 10 to go.
12:33And if you go, what, 5-5 in those?
12:36No, you're not the one seed.
12:37If you go 7-3 over the course of the final 10 and you wind up being 13-4, that
12:43might be enough.
12:44But it also might not be enough to be the No. 1 seed.
12:47Mark Slareth is coming up at 3.
12:49How good is that?
12:50A guy on the line.
12:51Let's talk about DeForest Buckner.
12:53Until then, it's all you.
12:55888-957-9570.
12:58We have got a very, very busy day that's going to yin and yang back and forth between the 49ers
13:04and the acquisition of DeForest Buckner.
13:06And the Warriors in the most exciting game by a young player in a Warrior uniform in I don't know
13:12how freaking long.
