00:00so i wanted to talk a little bit about your putting because i remember getting a uh or you
00:03and i spoke a little bit earlier this year just about hey where's a good spot to kind of end
00:08up
00:08with uh a good putting instructor and you and i kind of spoke about a couple different guys and
00:12you ended up with somebody who i think is uh terrific and marcus potter and i just want you
00:16to first talk about what you were going through leading up into working with a coach like marcus
00:22like what were you struggling with on the greens uh was there a certain type of putt a certain break
00:27was it technical um and how have you seen that putting stroke and technique uh improve as the
00:33year has gone on yeah i can't overstate how big it was to go see marcus um i don't i
00:44my stats were i mean horrific on the greens and and did that surprise you like did you like i
00:52was
00:52yeah last year i putted it solid i mean i you know i feel like you have to put it
00:58decent to
00:59win a couple times on any tour yeah um and i was putting it uncharacteristically poorly to start the
01:05year um which isn't a good feeling when you're just starting your career out on the pj tour and
01:11you see all the the stats and stuff and i was i mean i was losing like 0.9 shots
01:18around putting i
01:19mean almost basically negating your you're negating your advantage you are building off of the t right
01:24like they just nullify each other i mean yeah i may have i was in the negative if you combined
01:29you
01:29know both stats um and so i was like i i started work with a new caddy and ollie he
01:35was probably like
01:36dude get this figured out you know like this ain't good um and i was just struggling with some
01:43technique stuff speed wasn't good start line i mean pretty much everything was bad um what about
01:49the polana to start the year was that also another thing like when you're struggling like with your
01:53stroke or if you're not all have confidence you're not going to find confidence on polana green yeah
01:57in the year too yeah it doesn't help i mean it was bad it was bad um so yeah i
02:03i i know i texted you
02:05it was like hey like where should i look um and um i ended up working with marcus just because
02:13i i
02:13knew he he probably was going to have some time with me um but i shout out lee hodges i
02:20thought he
02:20had a great like i just love the way his stroke looked and that was a big reason why i
02:26started
02:26working with marcus is because i like the way lee putted it and so i was like all right if
02:31marcus can
02:32help him maybe he can help yeah because lee lee was always a ball striker man but his his putting
02:36was something that he i think he would tell you held him back and looking at his stroke now it's
02:41it
02:41is much improved so what about the technique side so what did you guys work on initially yeah the the
02:47first thing um so i kind of after i don't know after cognizant maybe valspar was the very first event
02:55i was putting with a like a phantom 7.2 uh scotty like fang type looking putter um i had
03:03i was left
03:04hand low i had some fingers down the shaft some weird things going on and at valspar i just said
03:09all right i'm kind of clean slate i'm starting fresh and this is when i texted marcus and was like
03:14hey
03:14you're going to be my putting coach and we weren't going to see each other until the following week in
03:18houston but i told him i was like hey i'm abandoning my putter i'm abandoning my grip i'm just going
03:24neutral conventional um like and i'll see you in houston basically and i kind of had an okay week
03:30in valspar like i was able to get it around i remember being okay because that was when we were
03:34you and i spoke about your putting yeah and i i was pretty much like zero strokes gain i i
03:39went to a
03:39neutral grip um putted with the go low and it was just a putter i pulled off the bag on
03:45the practice
03:45screen it wasn't like anything crazy or or whatever um and then and marcus said it looked a little better
03:52than what it was before but then we saw each other in houston and i was kind of just releasing
03:56the
03:56putter early uh which was causing some inconsistencies in the start line like to for me i feel it in
04:03the
04:03in the right hand a little bit when i get a little too active with that right hand um i
04:10just release
04:10the putter and the toe closes a little soon and then i'm trying to like kind of lean back and
04:15fight
04:15the face open or sure that's when you say that's when you get those pulls like it was just hit
04:19a
04:19pull yeah yeah it's nasty and so um a lot of the work we did initially was just trying to
04:26take some
04:26of that out of the stroke you know um a little bit more with the shoulders um take a little
04:32bit of
04:33that early release with the hands out um not that the hands are have no you know no play or
04:40no
04:41impact but just make sure that at impact i'm not releasing loft like i was before um and it was
04:49a
04:49huge help i mean he's helped me a little bit with setup stuff just making sure my setup has been
04:53really
04:54consistent um i was really struggling to see the lines with the ball so like i would i'd line up
05:01my
05:01ball and then i'd stand i'd stand over it and you know maybe we've got a 10 footer and i'm
05:06playing
05:07at two cups out right and i know the ball's lined up there because i just i've looked at it
05:11and then
05:12i set the putter to it and i'm like it looks right edge and i know it's like not close
05:17to right edge
05:18and that really does not give you confidence when you're standing over the ball
