00:0022 seconds to go. Now we have a technical foul on Yaxel Lendenborg.
00:06Called by Scott Twardorski.
00:10Dontas has been talking and clapping all first half.
00:14And Scott Twardorski decides now the time is to call a technical on somebody else.
00:20Being in there firsthand, just watching all the whining and complaining, I lost all respect, man.
00:25Like, that was awful.
00:25Like, me getting frustrated, it's not about, like, the foul being called.
00:30It's about, like, him complaining the entire game.
00:33And then you get the foul call. Congratulations, bro.
00:34And then you talk to me like you did something great, bro.
00:36Come on, dawg. That's sweet.
00:48Yaxel, he's even got rejoins.
00:52He's NBA ready.
00:53I mean, I thought that he would have added something there, you know?
00:59Dibs, I mean, I think you're soft.
01:01You embellish too much.
01:03You're a pixel.
01:04Yeah.
01:05Something.
01:07Like, I know there's a lot of people who, and I'm one of them, who loved it.
01:12I can't stand watching Luka Doncic play basketball.
01:15I can't stand the complaining.
01:18There's a difference, though, between me saying it and you saying it and Yaxel feeling it and saying it on
01:26the court and then saying it to the press afterward.
01:30Steve Kerr, in the preseason, had this quote, and he'll join us at five.
01:36But this quote, you can see his youth with his comments in the media.
01:41He's going to say some stuff he may have to retract.
01:45But I love it, and I love him.
01:48We always encourage everyone to be themselves, and he's got a really great personality.
01:52I co-sign with all of that.
01:54Yaxel is really, really, he's fortunate that this is where he ended up because he does have a great personality,
02:02and the Warriors are famous for letting dudes be themselves.
02:05It's how Draymond Green has had an entire career here.
02:10So I love this.
02:12I got no issues, but there's a reason people don't do this.
02:19And that's why Steve Kerr says he's going to say some stuff that he's going to have to retract.
02:24There's a process here.
02:26I get what this scab that it picked for everybody.
02:29Everybody wants to yell this at Luka, and someone finally said it, and it feels good.
02:34Doesn't it?
02:35It feels good for the moment.
02:36Well, it's great that it got called out by a fellow player,
02:40but it might be more impactful if it was somebody like Draymond who's played about 1,000 games in the
02:46regular season.
02:46If he comes out and says it, then it feels like it's got more actual teeth to it.
02:51But Yaxel's played one game.
02:53He faced Luka, and apparently he shut Luka down.
02:57Nobody else did.
02:58And then he goes out there and talks about how, you know, Luka's out there whining and begging for calls.
03:03And, yeah, Yaxel, you are right.
03:04But what happens on Friday, and we'll be out there at Splash, when, you know, maybe Gigi Jackson goes up
03:11and tries to dunk the ball and he misses a dunk.
03:14Do you go to the podium after the game and says, this guy can't even dunk?
03:17How bad is he?
03:18Is nobody else making the connection that as soon as Yaxel did this with Luka,
03:23that the game, poof, went sideways?
03:27Well, he was doing it the whole first half.
03:29I mean, the talk had started, like, right away.
03:32As soon as the technical foul happened, Luka went into that place.
03:38Well, he hit a 50-foot leaner, so.
03:41There was some of it before that, too.
03:43Luka went to Superstar Zone, and it fired the whole arena up,
03:48and the Lakers outscored the Warriors by 1,000 points the rest of the way.
03:53And that's all I'm talking about.
03:54I'm not blaming him for that.
03:57Like, it's his first game.
03:58And I think the kid is just an unbelievable watch.
04:02I can't wait for his career.
04:05This is fantastic.
04:07It's fantastic.
04:09But I promise you, whether it's the organization, you know who I got my eyes on?
04:16Jimmy Butler.
04:17That's who I've got my eyes on.
04:19Because Jimmy Butler is the guy who took Jonathan Kaminga under his wing.
04:22And he sat next to Yaxel throughout the entire game last night.
04:26And Draymond is a live wire, and Steph's not a big talker.
04:30I wonder, and I want to ask Steve this.
04:32Who has taken Yaxel under his wing?
04:34And I wonder what Jimmy Butler would say to Yaxel after that game and after that press conference.
04:41And he may say, hey, dude, this is great.
04:43It's great that you feel this way.
04:45It's great that you're willing to stand up to a star already.
04:49However, just a couple of things, word to the wise.
04:53Because this is the position it sort of leaves you and the team in when you do stuff like that.
04:59You fire up the stars, they play better.
05:02All of them.
05:02That's how they're wired.
05:04Steph is the same guy.
05:06You piss him off, he's going to go to another planet.
05:10And he's going to beat you.
05:12And that's part of what happened last night, in my eyes.
05:16Well, to me, the game was basically over at halftime when that happened.
05:21And so that happened with just a few seconds left.
05:23Luka hits the free throw.
05:25Then he hits a, I apologize, 49-footer officially listed.
05:28He's got 23 at the half of that game.
05:31And he went on to score a grand total of five more points.
05:36So, it's not like that moment when Yaxel got the tee is what ignited Luka.
05:41Luka was already ignited.
05:42And if the game was close, maybe Luka goes out and puts up 50.
05:46But, honestly, he didn't have to because they were up 13 at the break.
05:50They came out and just hammered the Warriors early and that game was over.
05:53Here's Yaxel again right after the game and his experience with Luka.
05:58Being in there firsthand, just watching all the whining and complaining, I lost all respect, man.
06:02Like, that was awful.
06:03Like, me getting frustrated, it's not about, like, the foul being called.
06:08It's about, like, him complaining the entire game.
06:10And then you get the foul call.
06:11Congratulations, bro.
06:12And then you talk to me like you did something great, bro.
06:14Come on, dog.
06:15That's sweet.
06:16Okay.
06:16888-957-9570.
06:18Let's go to Bert and Benicia.
06:20Hi, Bert.
06:21Thanks for calling in.
06:22What's up?
06:23What's up, boys?
06:24Yeah, no, I love the Yaxel stuff.
06:26Like, keep talking.
06:28Like, as long as you back up that talk, then it's all good.
06:31And I think having Jimmy and Draymond there with him can help kind of steer him and guide him in
06:37the right direction.
06:37But my bigger issue is, oh, man, they're a tough watch.
06:42And last year they won, what, 35 games or something like that?
06:4537.
06:46Yep.
06:46You know, Dibs.
06:47Yeah, so, Dibs, if you were going to do the over-under here, you know, what are you putting that
06:51line at?
06:5235, 36 wins for them?
06:55Because when the first guys off the bench are GP2, Al Horford, and number 32, I don't even know who
07:01the hell that is.
07:02And you got Draymond and Curry on the court.
07:05Like, there's no scoring.
07:06And I just felt bad for Steph.
07:07Like, damn, that's who we got out there with him?
07:10It's tough.
07:12It's real tough.
07:13And I think the over-under originally was 39 and a half, maybe 38 and a half.
07:19It is slip sliding on down.
07:21And I was on Calci, and you could trade on anything.
07:25And I actually fired away on the under 38 and a half.
07:29And I talked to my partner off the air, and he said, you know, I can't do that.
07:33And I said, you know what?
07:34It's probably bad mojo.
07:36So I went and I cashed that thing out.
07:38You did?
07:38I did because I didn't want to be happy about them losing.
07:42It's my favorite team in the Bay Area.
07:44And so I got out of it.
07:46But you talk about 35 or 36, I think it could be that.
07:50It could be less.
07:51And, hey, they could surprise us.
07:52And Chris Stapps could actually play games.
07:55And Jimmy can come back early, blah, blah, blah.
07:57What I saw last night is a team that's got a star that is 38 and a half.
08:02And, I mean, last night was kind of a microcosm of what the season could be.
08:06He was awesome, that he was just okay, and then he was no longer really playing
08:11because the game was over.
08:13So it's interesting.
08:14By the way, number 32, that's George Niang.
08:18I don't really – my mind is not yet on, oh, gosh, Warriors look terrible.
08:24They're going to only win 25 games this year.
08:26I heard a lot of that yesterday.
08:28I think we are so quick to go, okay, that game went that way,
08:33and therefore – I understand the holes in the roster that you all see.
08:38But I also know that transactions can happen.
08:41Players can get better.
08:42Yaxel will get better.
08:44How many seasons have you ever seen where a team is the exact same at the end of it
08:47that they are at the beginning?
08:49That's not normal.
08:51So let's see what happens.
08:52Let's see what happens.
08:54And then I say that with Yaxel, too.
08:57Again, I'm going to try to keep hammering this home
08:58because I know what apparently this sounds like.
09:01This is – I love what this means about what Yaxel's makeup is.
09:07That, to me, is the number one takeaway.
09:10When you see a player wired like this, y'all got a dog.
09:14The Warriors got a talented 6'9 dog, and that's a beautiful thing,
09:21and that has staying power.
09:23However, there's a reason why you don't hear people do this.
09:29I know how many people are like, this is great.
09:31There's a reason that you don't hear players do this.
09:36And it's not smart to tell the other great players in the world, you suck,
09:42and then say it into a microphone because it jocks them up,
09:47and then they become even more powerful versions of themselves.
09:50I think it's the microphone part to me.
09:52No doubt.
09:53Which would be the teaching point.
09:54So if I'm Jimmy Butler and I have the opportunity to impart wisdom,
09:59it would be, you know what, talk all you want on the court, and that's this.
10:02It's back and forth.
10:03It's you and Luca, and, you know, you guys got into it, and you got the T.
10:07And just, first of all, know that if you get into a situation like that,
10:11you get the T.
10:11He doesn't.
10:12It's not fair.
10:13But that's the way the association works.
10:15But once you go to a microphone and say what you said about,
10:19I lost all respect, blah, blah, blah,
10:21now it becomes something that catches the eye and the ear of everyone.
10:24Because if you didn't watch the Lakers and the Warriors,
10:27if you're on the East Coast, maybe you're with one eye checking the score,
10:30and you're like, yeah, Warriors are losing.
10:32I'm going to bed.
10:33But then you wake up and you have this.
10:35This makes it a completely different ball of wax.
10:38It makes it personal.
10:39Well, it makes it newsworthy.
10:41It makes it something that catches everyone's attention because I don't know
10:45how many games you watched yesterday, but I guarantee you in every game
10:48there was trash talk that went back and forth,
10:51and you didn't even notice it because nobody went to the mic after and said,
10:55yeah, so-and-so sucks.
10:56Eric Spolstra already talked to one of his players and said,
10:59less trash talk to Anthony Edwards.
11:01Why do you think he said that?
11:02Because the Ant-Man was cooking.
11:05Went for 45.
11:06Right.
11:06So that's all I'm saying.
11:08I'm with you 100%.
11:11And I don't want to be selfish here.
11:13We work in sports talk radio.
11:15We would love for Yaxl to go to every microphone and be like,
11:19you suck, you suck, you're a banana head.
11:22Like, I would love that.
11:24I would love that.
11:25But that's selfish.
11:26That's not great for Warrior basketball.
11:29Yaxl is going to be a very big brand.
11:32I think he's going to be a very big deal.
11:34He's an incredible talent.
11:36Selfishly, it would be great if every press conference he was like,
11:40all right, here's on my list of the superstars who suck tonight.
11:44And he just started firing away like a crazy person on social.
11:48That'd be great for me.
11:49That'd be great for you.
11:51That's not great for the Warriors.
11:53To a similar extent, the Draymond Green stuff is not always, quote,
11:58great for the Warriors.
11:59When, you know, he flail kicks Steven Adams and he swivel punches Yusuf Nurkic
12:06and then he chokes Rudy Gobert and he punches his teammate.
12:09And I'm only highlighting those things because they become negatives
12:13and they become things that distract from his greatness.
12:16And his greatness is a guy can go for a triple single and be DPOY
12:21and shut down a guy who's eight inches taller and all the rest of it.
12:24But unfortunately, the other things become part of the narrative.
12:28And so for Yaxl in the season, if you do struggle and if you do have a star
12:33who goes out there and maybe gives you a pump fake and goes by you
12:36and dunks on a teammate and they run by and they're smiling
12:39and now they're going to be, you know, woofing and talking
12:41and the podium game is going to come back his way
12:44and it's going to take away from what should be a good rookie year.
12:47No issue with on the court. None. No issue.
12:50And again, I don't have an issue with what happened after the game,
12:53but I bet the Warriors do.
12:54Did Luka make any comments?
12:56Not that I saw.
12:57Okay. I was just thinking about that.
12:59Like, you know.
13:00I mean, there is a compliment tucked into all of this for Yaxl.
13:04Like, the idea that Luka got into it with someone in their first game,
13:09like, he didn't need to pay Yaxl any mind at all.
13:13But he did.
13:15There's a compliment tucked in there.
13:17That is in and of itself some sort of respect.
13:21Luka Doncic felt it necessary, right,
13:24to start join with someone in their first game.
13:29You know what I mean?
13:30So there's something.
13:31And I got no issue with all that stuff that happens on the court whatsoever.
13:35Moses in San Jose is next.
13:37Hi, Moses. Thanks for calling.
13:40How's it going, fellas?
13:41What's up?
13:42Happy Friday Eve.
13:43Well, almost.
13:45But it's Thursday.
13:46It's Friday Eve, he said.
13:47Friday Eve. My bad. I didn't hear that part.
13:50All good. All good.
13:51So I wanted to touch on a few things.
13:55First and foremost, I actually really, really, really love Yaxl, you know,
14:02getting fired up and saying what needed to be said.
14:04I think that a lot of guys, I guess, take the high road and stuff a lot in that school
14:10and all.
14:11But for a long time, the Warriors have kind of had a passive, you know, demeanor and whatnot.
14:18And I like that.
14:20They have someone outside of Draymond now that, you know, is going to say what they feel like saying in
14:26a way, right?
14:28But on the other hand, I do see how that could be detrimental to the team and the organization.
14:34Because if you think back a few years, the Memphis team, when they were saying they're good in the West
14:39and all that stuff,
14:40all those players are in different places now.
14:43So I understand both sides.
14:47But as a Warrior fan, as an OG Warrior fan, I really do love actually having someone that's, you know,
14:54fired up and speaking their truth, I guess you can say.
15:00I also wanted to touch on a potential trade.
15:03I kind of want to put it in the atmosphere.
15:04Okay.
15:05Get people juice flowing.
15:06Yeah.
15:07It would be awesome.
15:08I know Miles Turner was mentioned, and I think that would be a match made in heaven in a way.
15:15His contract is expiring in two years, and it's in line with Draymond's and Steph's and Horford's and so on
15:22and so forth.
15:23But it would also – I love Jimmy to death, but it would be great if, you know,
15:28if we were to package Jimmy as well maybe for Tyler Hero in that package.
15:33And obviously we'd have to probably send picks to make it enticing.
15:39But, yeah, KP, Jimmy, and picks for Hero and Turner would kind of solve a lot of problems.
15:47The big thing is Steph's timeline.
15:50And I think that's kind of, you know, the holdup on a lot of things.
15:58So it's either rebuild or go after the – you know, those two, in my opinion.
16:03Thanks for the call, guys.
16:04Okay.
16:04Yeah.
16:04Moses, thanks very much.
16:05Interesting call.
16:06I get that Miles Turner has been on Warriors fans' minds for a long time.
16:12For me, he's like the oldest 30-year-old in the NBA.
16:15I don't know where you're at on Miles Turner.
16:17And I respect the point.
16:20Like, I get where his thought process is.
16:22But Steph Curry is about to be 39.
16:25I'm not big on sending tons of picks out to support someone who's about to turn 39.
16:31I want to support Steph, but not by giving up your entire future.
16:35I think that that's not a great idea in general.
16:39And I was just really struck by Miles when I went to spring training to see the Giants last year
16:45and we ended up at that Suns-Bucks game.
16:48Miles, he not moving very well.
16:50That is a large man who is 30 and is moving like he's 40.
16:56That was my assessment.
16:57He'd fit right in if that's – I mean, if you're looking for a fit.
17:01And, what, last year he wound up playing 27 minutes a night over 71 games.
17:06I mean, that's more games than probably almost everybody on this team will play.
17:11Yep.
17:12And he's scored 11.9 points per night and grabbed five boards.
17:18And I just find him to be kind of a guy at this point.
17:23He is not the player who was averaging 18 points a night five years ago.
17:27Sure, but you look at this team and you need people who actually can play basketball.
17:31And if you need size, then he's a guy at 6'11 who has some size.
17:36And I honestly think that any possible Chris Stapp's Porzingis trade is going to be somebody
17:41who is either expiring or unproven or not great or overpaid, et cetera.
17:48You're probably not going to turn Porzingis unless you want to package Porzingis
17:53and a couple of picks, which I don't think you want to do.
17:55This feels to me a little bit like the 49ers wide receiver conversation, which is,
18:00okay, you can bring in a high-priced Garrett Wilson, for example, but do you really want
18:06to pay him for four years and you've got other guys who are in wait?
18:09We're going to keep going on the phones, but real quick, since you brought up Niner receivers,
18:12boy, the Niners are firmly standing on like, no, Mike Evans is a maybe.
18:18He didn't practice again today, but they are refused.
18:22I don't think he's going to play, but they're like, they're not ruling him out.
18:27Well, they don't have to yet.
18:28I know they don't.
18:29Even tomorrow, he'll be listed as questionable, questionable concern, and then the key will
18:33be, does he even get on the flight?
18:34And I wonder about other 49ers, because it seems like guys who might be borderline, play
18:41or not play, they might just sit a bunch of people.
18:43Yeah, Nick Bosa, again, didn't practice today, and I know he was very confident that he was
18:47going to be back no later than this game, but he's still out.
18:50Michael Williams was back at practice today, so that was a relief.
18:54Let's keep going.
18:55Will in San Mateo.
18:56Hi, Will.
18:56Thanks for the call.
18:58Hi, what's up, guys?
19:00What's happening, man?
19:02Yeah, I just wanted to bring up a quick thing.
19:04The real reason why the Warriors can't win any games, right, is we always get dominated
19:09by a center.
19:10You know, last night, Walker Kessler was 11 for 11.
19:13We can't have that.
19:1412 for 12, actually.
19:16Yeah, yeah.
19:17We can't have that here.
19:18And I mean, it's been a recurring issue for the last couple of years, and I mean, that's
19:21why you desperately sign Chris Dobbs Porzingis, who may never play basketball game again.
19:26So, thank you, guys.
19:26Yeah, Will, thank you.
19:28I mean, this is, it is glaring in one game, but it was glaring how small the Warriors looked.
19:36And Walker Kessler, I love the credit he's getting.
19:39Oh, it's the best Laker opener since, since Will.
19:43It's 12 for 12.
19:4410 of them were dunks.
19:46He's over seven feet tall.
19:48That's not hard.
19:49That's not difficult.
19:52So, color me unimpressed, because Walker did nothing to do that.
19:58He was just by himself and tall.
20:01So, that's not a criticism.
20:03It's an agreement with what Will's talking about.
20:05I don't know what the Warriors are going to do right now about their size and rim protection.
20:10They are in a spot.
20:11Even if you had Porzingis, and I said this during the crossover, he's a 24-minute-a-night guy.
20:17And even if he was available last night, that's half the game.
20:20And it goes beyond just the Walker Kessler, because every team seems to have a seven-footer.
20:25I'm just looking at his shot chart last night.
20:28Walker Kessler, alley-oop dunk, alley-oop layup, cutting dunk, alley-oop dunk, tip dunk, cutting dunk, running dunk, reverse
20:35dunk, alley-oop dunk, running dunk, reverse dunk, driving layup.
20:40Every single shot was inside the restricted area.
20:42The longest shot he took was from four feet.
20:45Well, it says shot distance four feet, and it's listed as cutting dunk.
20:48So, did he dunk it from four feet away?
20:50I guess he did.
20:51He's that tall.
20:52Sure.
20:53Ten dunks, two layups, have a night.
20:56Unimpressed.
20:57Kess?
20:57Yeah.
20:58But, sure, unimpressed.
21:00Whatever.
21:00Like, I mean, not impressed.
21:02He didn't do anything wrong.
21:04I'm just like, let's calm down with, like, he looks like Wilt.
21:08He's the, I mean, he leads the league in field goal percentage, that's for sure.
21:11I would argue.
21:12If qualified.
21:13But, again, if you want to look at every other team they're going to face, the majority of them are
21:17going to have a seven-foot or seven-foot-plus guy who can do that.
21:21Once again, here's Yaxal.
21:23What'd you say to Luka out there?
21:25I was telling him he sucks.
21:26He can't score on me.
21:27You talking, you can't score on me.
21:28I said it the whole game.
21:30I said a couple cuss words, obviously.
21:31You know, that's why I got the technical and all that.
21:33But I was letting him know because, you know, he was laughing and talking all this because of that one
21:37foul call.
21:38And he didn't, his only bucket on me was a banker from half court.
21:41Like, I know that it's a team sport.
21:43You know, he had 28.
21:45He had 28 on us as a team.
21:47Me, I took my matchup personally.
21:49Trying not to get caught on the fouls.
21:51Trying my best.
21:52I was thinking about playing him with my hands by my back to see if that worked.
21:55Probably would have still got a foul call.
21:56My man, Yaxal Lunderborg, has been introduced to you, Dub Nation.
