Aldershot Town assistant manager Mark Jones speaks after his side's 2-2 FA Cup fourth qualifying round draw against Tadley Calleva.
Transcript
00:00Mark, 2-2 against Tully in the FA Cup, obviously not the result you wanted.
00:05So, you know, we were on top in the game, got in front twice, couldn't quite get that two-goal
00:09lead.
00:10Yeah, sort of thoughts afterwards?
00:11Yeah, the ultimate feeling is extreme disappointment because when you're playing at home to
00:16a side that are four levels lower than you, quite rightly, everybody expects us to turn up today
00:22and do the job quite comfortably and we sort of haven't really. We weren't clinical enough,
00:27sort of in an attacking sense and obviously conceded a goal from a long throw at the end of
00:33the first half, which was extremely disappointing. And then sort of huffed and puffed second half,
00:39but we never managed to get ourselves that two goals in front or even three and manage the game.
00:45We did have chances. I mean, we've missed sort of two or three guilt edge opportunities.
00:49So our clinicality at the top of the pitch was very poor. And then, you know, at the end there,
00:54it could have been a lot worse because Nick Hayes has after pulled off a one-handed save from a
00:58header
00:59in the last three or four minutes. So we could have been out the cup. I think the only positive
01:03from today is that we're still in the competition. We've got another shot at it Tuesday night.
01:09That's not going to be easy there. You know, Tadley Hill will have home advantage and their village
01:12will get behind them again. You know, they brought a fantastic amount of support today.
01:17I understand our fans' frustration totally. It's not good enough from us. I said in a previous
01:22interview that I know Scott, you know, won't accept that. You know, he's very proud to be
01:27manager of Aldershot Town. I'm proud to be the assistant and we need to do much better.
01:32And if players don't start to deliver, then we've got to do something about it because,
01:36you know, we're not happy to sort of go along with mediocrity. And today, you know, we should
01:40be good enough to beat the team from step five at home. And that's no disrespect to Tadley because
01:47a fair play to them. Their boys have come here today. Great spirit. They've had a great day
01:52and they've worked their socks off for the club. We've got to do much better. You know,
01:56there's no question about that. And we've got to get better quickly.
02:01And obviously everything you said there, I presume it's obviously been very much
02:03the chat in the changing room after the game with the boys.
02:06Yes, yes, there has. There's a lot of frustration in there. You know, they've been left in no uncertain
02:10terms that that level of performance won't be accepted by us. So we hopefully can get a reaction now.
02:17There's been an awful lot of positive positivity since Scott's come in. But over the last sort of
02:23three or four games, we haven't really been at the levels we need and we need to get get back
02:27there
02:27quickly. So a lot of frustration today, I guess, you know, in a sort of bit of a strange sense,
02:33we are still pleased to be in the competition because we could have been on the end of one of
02:39the probably
02:40big cup upsets from this weekend. So got to do better.
02:45And obviously, it's going to be the replay on Tuesday. You know what you're going to face
02:48there. They'll be up for it. And you'll obviously be very focused on yourselves and getting the job
02:52done there. Yeah, that's right. You know, they will be up for it again. I don't really want to say
02:56too much on us now. I mean, we're extremely disappointed. All we can do is apologize to
03:02the supporters who came and backed us today. And we've got to give much better for them because
03:06at the end of the day, you know, they're the lifeblood of the club. And we've got to make sure
03:11that
03:11we're sending them away with smiles on their faces. And there was an awful lot of unhappy faces at the
03:16end and quite rightly so. So we know what we've got to do and hopefully we can get we can
03:21get it done.
