00:09Welcome to MojoPlays, and today we're here to take a look at 10 bad video games that just
00:14so happen to feature one great level or section. Before we begin, we publish new content all week
00:28long, so be sure to subscribe and ring the bell to be notified about our latest videos.
00:35The Blackwood House Redfall
00:45Despite launching as a notorious, technically compromised disaster,
00:49Arkane Studios' Redfall did manage to, very briefly at least,
00:53recapture its developer's signature immersive sim magic within the Blackwood House level.
00:59Serving as the psychic echo of a haunted estate, this specific mission strips away the game's
01:05tedious and frankly just boring open world clutter to deliver a tightly paced, genuinely eerie and
01:11spooky slice of psychological horror. As players navigate changing geometry and unravel a deeply
01:17tragic family story, it acts as a bittersweet reminder of Arkane's masterful environmental
01:23storytelling. Ultimately, it stands out as a brilliant oasis of design in an otherwise barren
01:29and broken experience. It's such a bummer to see a vampire game suck. Get it? Because, you know,
01:36vampires, they bite and they suck blood. You know what? Never mind. I thought it was funny.
01:49Circus The Tick
01:57The 1994 side-scrolling beat-em-up The Tick for the Super Nintendo is widely criticized for its
02:03soul-crushingly tedious length and repetitive waves of identical enemies. However, the circus level
02:09injects a much needed burst of creativity and comic book absurdity that briefly saves the game from its
02:15own monotony. Fighting bizarre and, yeah, kind of creepy clown mobs and dealing with the chaotic,
02:21vibrant, big top environment perfectly mirrors the surreal humor of Ben Edlin's original series.
02:27It stands out, then, as a rare, highly memorable highlight in an otherwise agonizingly bloated
02:3244-level slog.
02:39Mission 1, Devil May Cry 2
02:51While Devil May Cry 2 is universally lamented by fans for its sluggish combat, neutered protagonist,
02:57and brain-dead difficulty, its opening stage, creatively and excitedly titled, Mission 1,
03:03yeah, that's compelling indeed, offers a misleadingly brilliant first impression. Set against a striking
03:09Gothic European backdrop filled with crumbling stone architecture, the level expertly captures the moody
03:15atmospheric aesthetic that made the original game a masterpiece. Controlling a stylishly redesigned
03:20Dante as he effortlessly navigates rooftops and battles classic demon designs, players are treated to a
03:26lovely glimpse of the high-octane action thriller this sequel could have been. It is a masterclass in
03:32mood setting that makes the steep drop-off, and it's a really steep drop-off, in the rest of the
03:36game's
03:37uninspired wide-open levels feel even more tragic here. It starts right, but then quickly just veers off a cliff.
03:44Lame sauce.
03:51Operation Port Armor Call of Duty Infinite Warfare
04:03Although Infinite Warfare is generally considered one of the franchise's most divisive, fatigue-inducing,
04:09futuristic entries, the level, Operation Port Armor, delivers an absolute masterclass in sci-fi
04:14cinematic spectacle. I mean, why didn't they just keep this up for the whole campaign? That would
04:19have been great. The mission seamlessly blends tight, high-stakes, boots-on-the-ground corridor
04:23shooting with a breathtaking zero-gravity assault outside a crippled orbital station. Watching the
04:29Earth hang in the background as you grapple across floating debris and dodge anti-aircraft fire
04:34perfectly realized the grandiose space warfare fantasy that the marketing promised for this game.
04:40It remains a gripping blockbuster powerhouse of a level that the rest of the campaign's
04:44repetitive planetary excursions could honestly never quite replicate.
04:53Only way we're holding this board is reclaiming air superiority. Let's clean this up and drive
04:58set-depth out of this airspace. Lock it off!

05:08on screen. Ireland section, Tomb Raider Chronicles.
05:12Come closer, or I have gifts for thee.
05:19I'll stay where I am.
05:22Lara Croft wanders weaponless into a rain-slicked nightmare during the Ireland chapters,
05:28specifically Gallows Tree, Labyrinth, and Old Mill of Tomb Raider Chronicles, completely upending
05:33the franchise's predictable formula. Stripping away the iconic double-pistol combat, this Ireland
05:39tour de force plunged players into a masterfully eerie world of Celtic folklore, filled with all
05:45sorts of malevolent changelings and haunting surreal labyrinths, and even some crafty puzzles.
05:50Survival here demands pure stealth, wits, and logic, creating an intense, slow-burn,
05:55psychological horror experience of sorts that feels completely detached from the engine's rigid
06:00limitations. It stands as a terrifyingly brilliant detour, serving as the soul-redeeming spark in a
06:06sequel that otherwise felt like a rushed, exhausted crash grab.
06:10What do you reckon? We get out of this godforsaken place, and go and get a nice
06:14cup of tea with whist. The Plaza Hotel, Home Alone 2, Lost in New York.
06:26The chaotic freedom of the Plaza Hotel level in the NES version of Home Alone 2, Lost in New York,
06:31is a shocking breath of fresh air compared to the game's otherwise unplayable, cumbersome,
06:36and frustrating design. Playing as Kevin McAllister, you are finally given the tools to turn a luxury hotel
06:42into a mischief-infused sandbox of folly. Unlike the infuriatingly clunky platforming sections that ruin
06:49the rest of the experience, sprinting through these wealthy corridors genuinely captures the mischievous,
06:54joyful spirit of the movie. It transforms what is a normally frustrating exercise in terrible collision
07:00detection into a brief, delightfully frantic playground of cartoon sabotage.
07:05Moonraker 007 Legends
07:19Few gaming experiences feel as hollow as 007 Legends, something a Bond game should never be, mind you.
07:26Itself, a generic first-person shooter that managed to drain all of the style, panache, and tension
07:31out of James Bond's cinematic history. Yet, navigating the zero-gravity exterior of a space
07:37station in the Moonraker mission briefly elevates the experience into a visually stunning, floaty,
07:42sci-fi playground. Lasers pierce the silent vacuum as you grapple through floating satellite debris,
07:48forcing a tactical shift in pacing that feels entirely distinct from the game's otherwise mindless
07:53earthbound hallway shootouts. It is a fleeting, dazzling sequence of pure spectacle that perfectly
07:59channels the campy grand scale ambition of the 1979 film, even if the rest of the game falls completely flat.
08:15The Battle of Hoth Star Wars Shadows of the Empire
08:26Alright, so imagine firing up a brand new Nintendo 64 back in 1996. Star Wars excitement brimming and
08:34overflowing, snacks at the ready of course, and immediately diving into the Battle of Hoth,
08:39a cinematic masterclass that remains one of the most iconic opening stages in gaming history. Taking
08:44control of Dash Rendar's snowspeeder to wrap tow cables around the legs of towering Imperial AT-ATs
08:50perfectly captured the scale and adrenaline of The Empire Strikes Back. This spectacular dogfight
08:56single-handedly sold millions of consoles, making it easy to forget that the rest of Shadows of the
09:01Empire quickly devolves into an exercise in clunky, borderline, unplayable third-person platforming.
09:06It acts as a legendary blueprint for future Rogue Squadron titles, trapped inside a game that didn't at all age
09:13gracefully.
09:21No Hope in Hadley's Aliens Colonial Marines
09:24You guys heard that, right?
09:30Don't want to stick around and find out what it was.
09:33The pitch black strobe-lit ruins of No Hope in Hadley's offers a tantalizing glimpse of the
09:38atmospheric masterpiece, Aliens Colonial Marines, was supposed to be. Yeah, sad times indeed. I mean,
09:44the whole game could have been so good, but yeah, no, it wasn't. Just this one section.
09:49Thank goodness for this section though, right? I mean, retreading the iconic and foreboding acid
09:54burn corridors of Hadley's Hope forces players into a genuinely terrifying claustrophobic gauntlet,
09:59relying on the iconic motion tracker to anticipate xenomorphs lurking out in the shadows.
10:05For a brief moment in the game, the broken AI, the flat lighting, and the disjointed narrative
10:10of the broader game sort of just melts away here, replaced by pure spine-chilling reverence
10:15for James Cameron's 1986 film. It stands out as a brilliant, heartbreaking oasis of authentic
10:21survival horror buried within one of the most infamously botched releases in gaming history.
10:36Kingdom Valley Sonic the Hedgehog 06
10:49Majestic sweeping orchestral strings swell as Silver the Hedgehog teleports into Kingdom Valley,
10:54a level so visually breathtaking and atmospheric, it feels like it belongs in an entirely different
11:00polished masterpiece. Not this one, obviously. This ancient windswept kingdom of crumbling castles,
11:06cascading waterfalls, and soaring eagles completely detaches itself from the catastrophic bugs,
11:12the loading screens, the weird narrative train wreck, and the general unfundness. I'm not
11:17actually sure if unfundness is a word, but let's go with it. That obviously defines Sonic 06.
11:22Whether you're grinding down massive stone aqueducts or executing high-speed loops across
11:27fractured medieval ruins, the level design achieves a rare, soaring sense of verticality and flow in this
11:32game. It is a stunningly beautiful moment of peak Sonic franchise potential, tragically, of course,
11:38trapped inside one of the most infamously broken video games ever made.
