00:00The weak will be purged, and the strongest will thrive, free to live as they see fit.
00:07They'll make America great again!
00:10What the hell are you talking about?
00:13Welcome to Mojo Plays, and we all know art imitates life, but how often is it the other way around?
00:19Believe it or not, video games have predicted future world events and shifts in culture years or even decades before
00:27they become real.
00:28Once there was an explosion, a bang which gave rise to life as we know it.
00:35Before we continue, be sure to subscribe to our channel and ring the bell to get notified about our latest
00:40videos.
00:43Smash TV
00:50It's hard to believe these days, but there was a time when the closest thing we had to reality TV
00:56was the endless number of game shows clogging up the airways on the weekends.
01:00However, one game could see the writing on the wall as early as 1990.
01:05Borrowing heavily from the likes of Running Man,
01:08Smash TV was set in the distant future of 1999,
01:12presenting players with a series of different arenas to battle enemies and bosses,
01:16while the crowds relentlessly cheered for the bloodshed.
01:19Although we thankfully don't have anything remotely this obscene today,
01:23yet,
01:24Smash TV foresaw millions of viewers watching everyday people forced into competitive, unrealistic scenarios for their entertainment.
01:37Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3.
01:41At 6.22 Greenwich Mean Time,
01:44chemical attacks were triggered across Europe.
01:46I repeat,
01:47down the street is within the contamination radius.
01:49Over.
01:50It's being called the worst terror event in history.
01:53Military games routinely appear at the forefront of global political tensions,
01:57but even with that knowledge,
01:59this one is still unprecedented.
02:02Coincidentally enough,
02:03two games from the two biggest first-person shooter series of the time
02:06ended up predicting events that unfortunately came to pass years later.
02:10In Battlefield 3,
02:12a nuke is detonated in Paris,
02:14killing 80,000.
02:16Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 presented another dark scenario
02:19where numerous bombs were sent throughout Europe.
02:22The most devastating one goes off in London,
02:24and no matter the players' actions,
02:27they are unable to prevent detonation.
02:29Both these events were eerily reminiscent of the terrorist attacks that occurred in Paris in 2015,
02:35involving explosive devices as well as armed extremists,
02:38resulting in over 100 people losing their lives
02:41and more than 400 people injured.
02:44Baseplate,
02:45the lorry's down.
02:45We're secure.
02:47What's the status on the others?
02:48Baseplate,
02:49come in.
02:50Baseplate,
02:51where are the trucks?
02:52Elite Dangerous.
03:00Oftentimes,
03:01science fiction is the innovator of future technology and discoveries.
03:05Once again,
03:06this was proven correct with Elite Dangerous.
03:09Elite Dangerous's Stellar Forge engine creates procedurally generated galaxies for players to explore,
03:15based on real-world data and an algorithm to fill in the missing gaps in the known universe.
03:20One of these galaxies,
03:21the game created some 40 light-years from Earth,
03:24had a small,
03:25cool star orbited by seven rocky planets.
03:28Only three years later,
03:30NASA reported they had discovered a system they designated TRAPPIST-1,
03:3440 light-years from Earth,
03:36that had a small,
03:37cool star orbited by seven rocky planets.
03:40Let's just hope the game's recently discovered alien civilization,
03:43the Thargoids,
03:44doesn't turn out to be an accurate prediction as well.
03:56Madden NFL 2015
03:59Patriots Seahawks on EA Sports.
04:03We welcome you to Glendale, Arizona for today's game.
04:08When thinking of games that predicted the future,
04:11you wouldn't immediately think of the yearly Madden series,
04:13but as part of the series tradition,
04:16EA Sports runs simulation games just before the Super Bowl each year.
04:20For Super Bowl XLIX in 2015,
04:23the simulation was almost too perfect.
04:26Not only did Madden NFL 2015 predict the exact game-ending score of 28-24,
04:32with the New England Patriots winning against the Seattle Seahawks,
04:35but that was also only the beginning.
04:38Madden 2015 accurately predicted who would score first,
04:42the Patriots, how the game would end with the final game-winning pass
04:45being from quarterback Tom Brady to wide receiver Julian Endelman,
04:50and the Tom Brady would win MVP.
04:53The yearly Madden tradition has a fairly good track record
04:56when it comes to predicting the winner,
04:57but never had almost everything been correct down to the detail.
05:10Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon
05:12Tom Clancy was a master of militaristic thrillers
05:16and his realistic depictions of combat scenarios,
05:19but one of the earliest video game adaptations of his works,
05:23written by the man himself,
05:25managed to predict real-world conflicts almost a decade before they happened.
05:29In 2001, the first Ghost Recon game was released,
05:33and a U.S. Special Forces team is sent in to support Georgia
05:36as Russian forces begin their invasion.
05:38Not only did Tom Clancy correctly predict the year of the invasion,
05:42only missing the exact date by a few months,
05:45but also the tactics used, locations,
05:48and even the escalation brought on by accusations of Western interference.
05:53Tom Clancy's writings were so scary accurate,
05:56it's no wonder he was investigated numerous times
05:59due to beliefs he somehow had gained access to confidential materials.
06:03Tom Clancy's The Division
06:05The flu season is not the earliest chance.
06:07Appears to be a previously unknown variant of the 40s.
06:10He's catching many experts on the guard.
06:12Today I was feeling like maybe I...
06:17Although this one only carries Tom Clancy's name as part of his universe,
06:21massive entertainment still managed to create a scenario so terrifyingly real
06:26that it basically chronicled the events
06:28and the response of the COVID-19 pandemic years before the outbreak.
06:33While the prospect of the dollar flu,
06:35in which a virus was released during Black Friday on currency to accelerate the spread,
06:39it was the government response within the game that was the most accurate.
06:43Amongst widespread panic of contagion,
06:46everything except essential services within the game would be shut down
06:50as survivors stayed quarantined indoors to avoid the virus.
06:53Concepts such as government distrust were also a major plot point within the game's narrative,
06:59as was the constant risk of misinformation about the virus itself.
07:02Even without Tom Clancy's direct involvement,
07:05his legacy of terrifyingly realistic predictions lives on.
07:09And who's to say that wasn't the plan all along?
07:12If, by some miracle, you survive green poison,
07:17then nature's decided you deserve to live.
07:19The rest of us shouldn't and won't.
07:23Godspeed.
07:25Deus Ex.
07:26I've already discussed the matter with the senator.
07:29I take it he was agreeable?
07:31He didn't really have a choice.
07:33Out of all the entries on our list,
07:35Deus Ex is probably the most prophetic,
07:38with many of the game's plot points mirroring reality with shocking detail,
07:42whether they meant to or not.
07:44Although missing due to technical limitations at the time,
07:47the absence of the World Trade Center buildings is almost impossible to ignore,
07:51especially with the game set in the year 2052,
07:55decades after the tragedy of September 11th, 2001.
07:58However, the game explains their disappearance being attributed to a terrorist attack
08:03in a single throwaway line of dialogue.
08:05Deus Ex also predicted the near-complete destruction of the middle class,
08:09the rise of AI and automation,
08:12as well as corporations' influence over global conflicts
08:15and the near-constant surveillance of their customers,
08:18which also happens to constantly feed them a near-consistent stream of misinformation.
08:23But that would never happen in real life, right?
08:25You're starting to scare me.
08:27Not as much as you're scaring me.
08:30Metal Gear Solid 2 Sons of Liberty
08:32This is Snake. Do you read me, Otacon?
08:35Loud and clear, Snake.
08:37Kept you waiting, huh?
08:38At the time of its release, to many casual fans,
08:41Metal Gear Solid 2 was convoluted and much more complicated to understand than its predecessor.
08:47To an extent, that is still true today.
08:49However, MGS2 is widely regarded today for its incredibly accurate predictions on everything
08:55from the near-constant surveillance state we live in today,
08:58shadowy organizations controlling the government behind the scenes through financial influence,
09:03the widespread use of misinformation online,
09:05and the rapid rise of AI.
09:07Metal Gear Solid 2 was incredibly forward-thinking for the time.
09:11It was just so far-fetched that we never believed it could ever become a reality.
09:16This wasn't the first time Kojima predicted future events with the Metal Gear series, either.
09:21Back in 1990, he predicted algae would be used as a fuel source,
09:26something that wouldn't become a reality until 2012.
09:29If the mob could trigger, control, and solve this,
09:32it would be ready for any contingency.
09:34And now, we have our proof.
09:38Death Stranding
09:39Listen to me. Why?
09:43Sam, you're already on the clock.
09:47Kojima lands on our list again, this time with his delivery simulator, Death Stranding.
09:52Releasing mere months before the entire world was locked down
09:56and forced to remain indoors and quarantined from one another,
09:59Hideo Kojima somehow predicted a scenario that was eerily close to real life.
10:04With everything but essential services shut down,
10:07everyday people relied on delivery personnel to keep them connected
10:10and supplied as they waited for the world to recover.
10:13Sound familiar?
10:14While thankfully the virus was nowhere near as deadly as the BTs or Timefall within Death Stranding,
10:20the few remaining residents relied solely on Sam and the player to keep them alive
10:25and connected with essential and life-saving supplies
10:28for those too afraid of the outside world to venture out on their own.
10:31Death Stranding was so close to real life
10:34that it forced Kojima to rewrite the sequel to avoid a similar scenario.
10:38Now you're good people. I can see that. And you brought my order like I asked.
10:43Call of Duty Ghosts
10:45Ghosts were the best of the best.
10:48McGrawl is the reason for the field.
10:51We are here for one man!
10:54Amaro! Mama Maile!
10:55The recent capture and extraction of Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro
11:00eerily mirrors the events of 2013's Call of Duty Ghosts.
11:04When Call of Duty Ghosts was initially released,
11:07many considered it controversial for depicting Venezuela as a global threat,
11:11controlling untold amounts of the world's oil reserves.
11:14However, over a decade later,
11:16not only did Maduro take power in 2013,
11:19the year of the game's release,
11:21but the location of the American Force's operation,
11:23both in-game and real life in 2026,
11:26took place in Caracas.
11:28Call of Duty series might not be highly regarded
11:30for its narratives these days as it once was,
11:33but in the mid-2000s,
11:34Call of Duty campaigns were incredibly grounded,
11:37with even Black Ops 2 predicting the military's implementation
11:40and heavy use of drones and autonomous vehicles in combat operations.
11:54Which real-life event that video games knew were going to happen
