00:00Three West Yorkshire councils have launched lane rental schemes which will charge companies for
00:05carrying out works on their busiest roads during the busiest times. Leeds, Wakefield and Kirklees
00:11councils are charging companies such as utilities or other works promoters as much as £2,500 per
00:18day for operating on key routes during the busiest times. The aim of lane rental schemes is to reduce
00:25the impact of works on the highway by encouraging organisations to schedule works outside peak
00:31periods and to collaborate or work more efficiently. The charges also apply to the three councils
00:36for any works they carry out or commission with an aim to minimise disruption.
