Top 10 Leeds commuter towns revealed

We visit Bingley which has been ranked the best commuter town for Leeds workers in a new study.

00:00 To collate this new list of best Leeds commuter towns, a study took into account travel time

00:05 to Leeds via train, the annual cost of a train season ticket and the number of outstanding

00:10 schools in the area. It also looked at crime levels and health facilities and gave each

00:16 town a rating out of 10 before crowning Bingley the most desirable commuter town for Leeds

00:21 workers.

00:22 At just 19 minutes away by train and with 74% of its schools rated outstanding, we can

00:29 now meet two Bingley business owners to find out why they wanted to be based in the town

00:34 and what makes it so special.

00:37 First moved to Bingley maybe in '92. My dad used to have the Brown Cow pub for many years

00:44 so I've always lived in Bingley and then bailed in for a bit and then back to Bingley. I played

00:49 cricket for Bingley Kongs, a local cricket side, played rugby for a little bit down at

00:54 Bradford and Bingley Rugby Club so I kind of always had ties round Bingley. When the

00:59 shop down the road first came up for rent and we agreed with the landlord that we were

01:03 going to have it, I had a bit of a poster we put up in the window and we created a buzz

01:07 and people were like 'oh my god we're going to get a record shop in Bingley, yeah, that's

01:10 great, we can't wait'. So yeah, people have been really supportive, people from the area

01:15 have been really supportive. Getting to Leeds, it's great, it's half an hour away, they often

01:22 have great gigs on, they've got some great night hours, good shops and it's just, yeah,

01:26 it's dead easy. I think it's literally half an hour on the train, might even not be that,

01:31 then you're there and back.

01:33 We are right directly next door to the train station in Bingley. This is the old Station

01:41 Masters House which we have renamed Platform 3 Pancake House Limited because of what we're

01:49 doing. The name was suggested to us, Platform 3, as a result of a Harry Potter theme type

01:55 idea, which indirectly we've ended up with Harry Potter on the wall behind us, not done

02:01 on purpose but that's just the way it worked out.

02:03 I moved over to the Bingley area with my partner Matthew who, he's lived in the Bingley area

02:09 all his life. His descendants, he goes such a long way back, his great grandad, his great

02:18 great grandad living in the area and it's just such a really nice town, there's a lovely

02:26 feel about it, it's a lovely place to come to visit. I mean the train station, we see

02:33 all kinds of communities coming through Bingley here but yeah, it's just such a lovely area

02:40 really.

02:41 Bingley is a bustling town and it's a very popular place to come to and I would like

02:46 to think that as we've opened this new venture, Platform 3, Bingley does have quite a lot

02:51 here already but it's something very different from what is already around. I think the problem

02:56 more than anything in Bingley is parking so it's much easier to jump on the train which

03:01 is why a lot of people commute on the train here.
