00:09as well as being a major through-route to the areas of Hare Hills, Gipton and Seacroft.
00:14The £30m scheme includes new bus lanes, cycle tracks and walking routes,
00:19with work on the project potentially getting underway from August this year through to autumn 2027.
00:26A council spokesperson said the scheme would deliver new bus lanes in both directions between the hospital and the city
00:32centre,
00:33improving bus journey times and reliability, particularly during peak periods, along with new cycle lanes.
00:40An earlier council report said it was hoped the project would reduce accidents on the road,
00:44where there had been 67 casualties, including 13 serious injuries and one fatality between 2017 and 2023.
00:53Parts of the road would be widened and the new bus lane would operate 24 hours a day.
00:58Traffic restrictions would be introduced as part of the scheme.
01:02The scheme is aiming to improve travel to Bermontos, Lincoln Green, Richmond Hill and Hare Hills,
01:07with the new bus and cycle infrastructure linking to previously delivered improvements.
01:12Cyclists will be able to travel on completely segregated lanes between the hospital and the city centre,
01:17and buses would use existing priority routes on York Street to make quicker continuous journeys.
01:23The council said £30.5m was set to be allocated as part of the city-region sustainable transport settlement.
