00:01Why not both?
00:03True. Right now, brought to you by...
00:05Shive and Jewelers, Cleveland's premier jewelry store.
00:07The Dangerous One, Daryl Ryder. Good morning, Daryl.
00:10Hello, boys.
00:11Good to talk to you.
00:15Alright, so, Daniel Yafusi was on over the weekend.
00:18Mentioned Andrew Barry loves a trade, loves a quarterback trade.
00:21I know you know the same things.
00:23Yep.
00:24You got Dylan Gabriel getting ready to come off IR.
00:27Now we start a 21-day practice window, so you got time.
00:31What do we do with this quarterback room here?
00:34Because we're in a position we didn't think we'd be in.
00:36We're 3-1 instead of 1-3 or 0-4.
00:40And now we're trying to win football games.
00:42We ain't just trying to see what we got.
00:44Right.
00:45Yeah, I talked about yesterday with Nick and Coach Riz.
00:50I think Shador Sanders very well could be the odd man out here.
00:55I don't think that they're going to trade Dylan Gabriel.
00:58They're not, obviously, going to move Taylor Green, and they're not going to make Taylor
01:01Green your backup quarterback either.
01:03So, that leaves Shador Sanders.
01:06They're not going to keep four quarterbacks.
01:08I just don't think that they can do that.
01:10Todd Munkin, certainly, at least during training camp, didn't sound like he was crazy about
01:14that idea.
01:15Shador clearly wants to play.
01:17He's not going to play here right now.
01:19I think the original plan, obviously, was to have Shador take over for Deshaun if things
01:24went south early in the season.
01:26Well, they went south in week one, but they've not gone south since.
01:29And Deshaun is playing better.
01:30The more Deshaun plays, the better he does play.
01:33So, I just, I kind of feel like, you know, Shador, unfortunately, might be the odd man
01:39out.
01:39Now, I'm not advocating for the Browns to trade him, but I just feel like with the quarterback
01:44injuries taking place around the league, unfortunately, his playing experience, he did start seven
01:50games last year.
01:51And the fact that, well, Dylan Gabriel was drafted before him, and there seems to be
01:56a little bit more of a commitment to him, it just, it makes sense that they would move
02:00Shador.
02:02I guess part of it that I'm sitting here wondering, and we kind of started to show off with this
02:07is, if you have this 21-day window, you don't feel that there's any level of urgency to do
02:14anything right now, do you?
02:15No.
02:15No, no, and that's the beauty of that 21-day window, is you have three weeks to figure it
02:24out.
02:25And also, too, keep in mind that a lot can change over a three-week period.
02:30So, there is no urgency right now, Anthony, for Andrew Beery to do much of anything, they
02:35can, you know, designate Dylan to return, he can begin practicing, and then, like I said,
02:42you buy yourself three weeks to figure out what to do with a four-man quarterback room.
02:47Well, I understand where you guys are at, but God forbid if Deshaun Watson goes down,
02:52and we all hear that Dylan Gabriel knows the offense better, you know, what am I to do
02:56as a team that's ahead of .500 right now and at the top of the division?
03:00Right, and the other part of this, too, is right now, your QB2 is Shador.
03:05You know, until they officially activate Dylan Gabriel, that circumstance does not change,
03:14and you're right.
03:14I mean, look, we already had a situation where, and thankfully it was just one play, but we
03:18did have a situation where Deshaun got banged up, Shador had to come in, completed a pass,
03:24Deshaun was okay, was able to come right back in.
03:26But Shador right now is your second quarterback again until they activate Dylan Gabriel and
03:31have to make a decision whether or not they want to remain with Shador as QB2 or go ahead
03:36and slide Dylan Gabriel into that spot.
03:39And again, they got three weeks to figure this thing out.
03:41Lots can happen.
03:42So, you know, we have to see how things unfold.
03:45A couple big games coming up for the Browns starting this week against the New York Jets,
03:49which then could set up a really big one against the Baltimore Ravens the following week.
03:55So, this is going to be an eventful month for the Cleveland Browns.
03:58But, Daryl, finally on this, what is the market for Shador Sanders or Dylan Gabriel?
04:04Yeah, I mean, I'd have to think a late-round pick, and I would also have to think that it'd
04:09be some sort of a pick swap.
04:11We've seen Andrew Barry make these type of trades before, Anthony, where he sends a player
04:16with a late-round pick and they get back a better late-round pick.
04:20Usually it's one round in front.
04:22So, let's say the trade is Shador and a 6, so you get back a 5, or it's Shador and
04:28a 7
04:28to get back a 6.
04:31You know, right now the Browns, I think, have 11 picks going in to next year's draft.
04:36Assuming they trade a quarterback here, that would probably then give them 12.
04:41You know, Adam Schefter brought up the Jerry Judy situation yesterday on ESPN before the games.
04:47And if they trade him, I'm guessing that'd involve a draft pick.
04:49Now you might be looking at 13 draft picks, and all of a sudden you have a whole lot of
04:53ammunition going into next year's draft.
04:56And, you know, the fact that you're winning games now and you're not going to end up with
05:00a top-five pick, that's not really all that big of a deal because Andrew Barry has ammunition
05:05to go ahead and move up the board.
05:08Daryl Ryder joining us on the show.
05:10So, Daryl, they're at 3-1 right now.
05:13I have found myself hesitant to critique or even criticize because they're 3-1.
05:20And it's like, well, I'm so surprised.
05:22I'm so elated.
05:23I'm so excited.
05:25It's hard for me to start to find things to warn about.
05:30You know, penalties.
05:32Defensive line dip.
05:34Do you feel the same way?
05:35Do you feel like, ah, things are going so great.
05:36What the hell is the point?
05:37No, I don't because those things at some point come back to bite you.
05:43And they always do it at the most inopportune time.
05:46So, the penalties do concern me.
05:49I do like the fact that the offensive line penalties were a little better against the
05:55Pittsburgh Steelers and not as bad as we had seen in previous weeks.
05:59So, the penalties bother me.
06:01The near misses from Deshaun Watson still bother me.
06:04Now, I realize they weren't interceptions.
06:06They weren't fumbles, but they were near misses.
06:08The football gods at some point are going to stop smiling upon you.
06:11So, he's got to be a little more careful at times with the football, even though he's
06:17put together three straight game-winning drives there in the fourth quarter.
06:21Just because the 3-1 does not mean that they're immune from criticism.
06:25And I think that, you know, I asked Todd Munkin this last week about breaking down game
06:32film and critiquing players and if it's easier to do that after wins rather than losses because
06:37obviously after a loss, everything's negative.
06:39You lost the game.
06:40Everybody's in a foul mood.
06:42Clearly, you lost the game because a lot of people made mistakes.
06:45And so, when you're winning and making mistakes, I think it makes it easier for the coaching
06:50staff to really pick apart the film and make them, you know, a better football team.
06:54So, no, 3-1 does not absolve them from criticism.
06:58There's plenty to criticize, but that doesn't also mean you can't enjoy what they've done
07:04to this point.
07:06Darryl, I heard you yesterday kind of going over the rest of the slate and trying to figure
07:12out how many wins there were.
07:14Yeah, we did the schedule game.
07:15By the way, do not do the schedule game with Coach Riz.
07:18He will not participate.
07:19Why?
07:20Because every week you're going 1-0.
07:22Oh, for the love of God.
07:23By the time it was done, the Browns went 16-1, according to Lance.
07:28So, like, that became a fruitless exercise with him.
07:33Nick and I had some fun with it.
07:34But, yeah, I mean, it's a little fun to think about what this season could be at 3-1, right?
07:40And they're better than we thought.
07:43The quarterback is better than we thought.
07:45The coach is better than we thought.
07:47So, yeah, it's a lot of fun to go through and play a little schedule game and see what
07:52they potentially could make of the rest of this season.
07:55Well, the reason I ask, Darryl, is obviously they've had three games that could have gone
08:00either way.
08:01And they're sitting here with so much of the feel-good vibes that I think have permeated
08:07the city.
08:07But you mentioned, you know, how things can also go the other way very quickly.
08:11I just found it interesting that they are underdogs against the Jets, which kind of shows
08:15that Vegas still doesn't think that much of this team.
08:18Right.
08:19And I don't think much of the New York Jets.
08:21So, you know, because I've already picked the Browns to win this and be 4-1 going into
08:27that Baltimore game.
08:28So, and you know what?
08:30Are we saying, are you guaranteeing a win, Darryl?
08:32No.
08:33No.
08:33Well, damn, then.
08:34If you're just saying they're 4-1, then what's stopping you from making a guarantee?
08:37What's stopping you from being tough-talking, Darryl?
08:39Let's talk tough.
08:40I don't guarantee anything, Ken.
08:42I've learned my lesson over the years.
08:44Every time I guarantee it's the kiss of death.
08:46So, I'm not looking to give the Browns the kiss of death, Ken.
08:51The running game, Darryl.
08:52We did see Judkins as a back, you know, out of the backfield.
08:58He was able to get things going running the football.
09:00But still, yards per carry, still very, very low.
09:03Yeah.
09:04Do you think maybe this is the week they get things going there?
09:06Well, I thought it was going to be the week against the Carolina Panthers.
09:09And they ended up with 132 yards against a team that was giving up 225 a game.
09:14So, I don't know.
09:16But I'll give Todd Munkin some credit.
09:18I think he's gotten creative in trying to get the football into Quinchon's hands outside
09:25of just handing it to him between the tackles.
09:28You know, throwing it to him out of the backfield, trying to get him in some space.
09:32And so, you know, you talk about criticism, you can criticize the run game too, right?
09:39And so, I just, I think that, you know, they've just got to keep hammering away at it.
09:47And just like, you know, pounding away at a brick wall at some point, you're going to break through.
09:50So, and they've been very intentional, especially early in games, about getting Quinchon involved.
09:56And I expect that to continue.
09:58We saw it against Pittsburgh early in the game, early downs, handing the ball to Quinchon.
10:02So, I expect this to continue.
10:03And, you know, hopefully at some point they have that big breakout game.
10:07Quinchon did have 70 yards against the Steelers.
10:10So, there's that.
10:11Darrell Ryder joining us on the show.
10:13Jerry Judy, he was mentioned as a possible trade candidate by Adam Schefter.
10:18He's one that I'm just going to make sure, you know, the next three weeks.
10:22Unless somebody comes up with something ridiculous, then fine.
10:24But, you know, I got two young wide receivers there with him.
10:29I'm sure Jerry Judy isn't the happiest camper in the history of Cleveland Browns wide receivers.
10:34But, you know, I still got two young guys there.
10:37They're fantastic.
10:37They're exciting.
10:38But if one of them goes down, all of a sudden Jerry Judy's role changes.
10:41I'm just not ready to give up on him just yet.
10:43Yeah.
10:44And he came up big when it mattered, right?
10:47I mean, we hadn't seen or heard from him for a couple of weeks.
10:52And he made three big catches.
10:55And that went over the stairs, including two on the final drive.
10:58They don't win that game without Jerry Judy's contribution.
11:00So, I don't think it's a situation where Andrew Barry absolutely has to move Jerry Judy.
11:07I mean, if you get an offer that makes sense for you, then yeah, sure.
11:11But I do feel like there's a role for him.
11:14He's not the one.
11:16He's not the two in this offense.
11:18And, listen, I don't think he was a one or even the two just in general.
11:23I kind of feel like he's in the role where he's best suited for.
11:28You know, the year he got here and he caught for 1,000 yards, he was kind of a little
11:33bit of a fish out of water.
11:34He was asked to be, by default, the number one wide receiver, the number one option in the offense.
11:39And the fact that now you've got defenses that are going to pay more attention to Casey Concepcion and Denzel
11:44Boston
11:44and not so much Jerry Judy, I think that helps him.
11:47I think that makes him a little bit of a better player as well.
11:49So, I don't think the Browns have to trade Jerry, but it's something that would not surprise me
11:55because, as you know, Andrew Barry is a very aggressive general manager.
12:02And, if he gets an offer that he likes, he's not afraid to pull the trigger.
12:07Those injuries on the defensive line, what do you think it means for this week and what that depth chart
12:11looks like?
12:11Yeah, well, I mean, you know, Mason Graham, at least they got some good news there.
12:15Yes, he's going to be out a couple of weeks, but that injury could have ended up being a lot
12:19worse.
12:19Mike Hall Jr., seeing him getting carted off from the sideline back to the locker room, you never want to
12:23see that.
12:24Certainly didn't expect him to come back into the game.
12:26The fact that they have this long layoff, hopefully, you know, that helps a little bit
12:32and give him some time off to get right, if you will.
12:36But, I think that they'll be okay.
12:40I'm not too terribly concerned, especially now that Mason is not in a situation
12:45where he's going to be lost for the season.
12:49So, you feel better about that, but, you know, just looking at that defensive line,
12:58you know, Aiden Huntington, who's contributed, you know, again, Mike Hall,
13:06the fact that this doesn't appear to be a long-term thing for him.
13:09Malik Collins has played really, really well.
13:11They got a couple of guys on the practice squad.
13:14Maybe they add someone to the practice squad just for a little depth or a little bit of an insurance.
13:18But, you know, it could have been a lot worse in that game against the Steelers
13:22because you're thinking, at least I was thinking, oh, my goodness,
13:26you lost Mason Graham, who was off to a massive start to the season.
13:29Then you lost Mike Hall, Jr., and now all of a sudden you've got a big, big hole
13:34in the middle of your defensive line.
13:35The injury news a lot better.
13:37So, I think that they're going to be okay.
13:40Daryl, is today the season for the Cleveland Guardians?
13:44I hate to be overly dramatic, but it's hard not to think that way, Ken.
13:49Having to win the final three games of the series going back to Chicago,
13:55that's a pretty tall ladder to climb.
13:57Now, it's been done before.
13:58In fact, it's been done against this franchise before,
14:00but when they've been up 2-0 in a division series.
14:04But, you know, I'm not worried about Gavin Williams.
14:06I'm worried about the offense.
14:07I really am.
14:09They couldn't scratch anything together against a bullpen game with the Chicago White Sox.
14:14Very few opportunities.
14:160-3 with runners in scoring position.
14:18They loaded the bases in the third and fourth inning, but that came with two outs.
14:24So, you know, only three hits as well in game one Saturday.
14:29So, I'm more nervous about this offense than I am Gavin Williams being on the bump.
14:35I'm really confident in him.
14:37Daryl, thank you very much for the time.
14:38Glad your AirPods were found.
14:40Yes.
14:40Enjoy today.
14:41I know that was a concern.
14:43We were all concerned for you.
14:45We appreciate you.
14:47No, I don't want you.
14:49Had they been stolen, I'm glad they were just lost.
14:51Had they been stolen, it would have been a terrible thing for you.
14:53There's no worse feeling than, like, watching them walk up East 9th Street, but I'm glad
14:57someone found them, and I'm going to get them back today.
15:00So, I appreciate that person.
15:01I know they're pricey, but would you want someone else's AirPods that live in the canals
15:06of your ear with everything that grows and festers in them?
15:09People are weird, man.
15:10And you're like, yoink, now I got them.
15:12Yay.
15:13A little rubbing alcohol, and people feel pretty confident and stuff.
15:17Well, Daryl, thank you very much for the time.
15:19You bet, guys.
15:20We'll talk to you later this week, hopefully the Guardians will either have things wrapped
15:24up or we'll be playing a Game 5 Saturday.
15:26Indeed.
15:26It's the dangerous one, Daryl Ryder.
15:28Daryl was brought to you by...
15:30Shive and Jewelers, Cleveland's premier jewelry store.
