03:23Let's talk some SmackDown.

03:24The show was very interesting tonight and I really was excited because I felt like there was more wrestling action

03:32in this show.

03:33That's something that hasn't been the case on Raw, even NXT.

03:37Too many talking segments.

03:38Now, there was several talking segments tonight, but they were very abbreviated, very short.

03:43The ones that needed to be longer went longer and it made a lot of sense and led to more

03:47physicality.

03:48So, I'm okay with that.

03:49So, let's get into the show.

03:50The show kicks off right away going to in-ring action.

03:53Not a whole bunch of promos and all that dumb stuff.

03:55Yeah, we do the whole thing where people are walking into the building and stuff like that, but whatever.

03:59First match, Tiffany Stratton, Tatum Paxley, Candice LeRae, the last Money in the Bank qualifier for the women's side of

04:05things.

04:06And the match is solid.

04:08The ending of the match, Candice LeRae gets Tatum Paxley up on the turnbuckle.

04:12She's going to hit some off the turnbuckle and Paxley ends up going for a 450 splash on Paxley.

04:16It looks like she's getting the win until we see Tiffany Stratton hit the prettiest moonsault ever and she picks

04:22up to win.

04:23Tiffany Stratton qualifies for Money in the Bank.

04:25Now, when you look at the Money in the Bank field for the women's side of things, I'm struggling to

04:30see how anybody but Tiffany Stratton could win.

04:32Because I feel like they've really built in this storyline that they're going to do something with Tiffany Stratton and

04:38Chelsea Green.

04:40It's just too obvious.

04:41And I think it's a solid matchup.

04:43I really do.

04:44And I don't necessarily see Chelsea dropping the championship right away either.

04:48She hasn't had a lot of real feuds because of the injury that she had originally and things like that.

04:53So, I believe that putting Tiffany Stratton into the Money in the Bank for the women might be the opportunity

04:59to give her the win so she can then challenge Chelsea.

05:02I would not be surprised if we see that happen.

05:04We'll see when we get to real predictions for that in the future.

05:07But for now, that's where my head is at.

05:09I think we're going to see Chelsea and Tiffy very, very soon.

05:14From there, there is a backstage segment Chelsea Green, Paige, and Nikki Bella.

05:18I'm going to be honest with you, this one came across almost snarky for the babyfaces here.

05:24Chelsea Green having her interview interrupted by Nikki Bella, who Paige then comes into frame.

05:31All this back and forth.

05:32And at the very end of it, after the insult from Nikki Bella to Paige, Paige slaps her across the

05:36face.

05:37And then Chelsea Green flips her hair in her face.

05:40And it leaves Nikki Bella looking either weak or almost getting some sympathy, if I could say that.

05:46She's supposed to be the heel.

05:47I didn't really love it.

05:48I didn't love the interplay.

05:49It almost made the babyfaces come off as more heelish.

05:52Don't know how to feel about that.

05:53We do get a vignette for Damien Priest.

05:57I actually think I have that.

05:58It should have come in a few seconds, but whatever.

06:00Damien Priest, they do a vignette where he talks about going back to his roots, where he came from, and

06:06how he forgot about taking care of himself.

06:09He's been worried about the fans, basically, is what he's saying.

06:11And then he forgot who he was.

06:13He had to get back to worrying about what was important, which is taking care of himself.

06:15And he said he's never going to make that mistake again.

06:17And I don't like that statement, because it means that you're never going to turn Damien Priest babyface again.

06:22And I think he does very well as a babyface.

06:24I do think he needs a good, strong heel run for a while.

06:26But I don't know that you want to ever say never again, because then how do you come back from

06:31that later on?

06:32I don't know.

06:33It just seems a little silly to me.

06:34But I am glad to see him getting some vignette time if he wasn't going to get some in-ring

06:38time.

06:38And let's face it, tonight's show is jam-packed, so there wasn't a lot of time for him to be

06:41in the ring.

06:42So this at least keeps him relevant.

06:43I don't love that he's still going to keep going with the feud with R-Truth.

06:46I understand that we have to get through it.

06:48But I hope they get that over relatively quickly.

06:51I don't need to see a long, extensive Damien Priest-R-Truth feud.

06:54Rey Fenix and Fraxium taking on the War Raiders and Ricky Saints is up next.

06:59I honestly, with that way Fraxium has been booked lately on multiple promotions, AAA, NXT, and now back to SmackDown,

07:04I actually kind of figured that Rey Fenix and Fraxium would win this.

07:08And they look great for quite a while.

07:10There's a blind tag by Ricky Saints at the end of the match when Phoenix is wrestling with, I believe,

07:17Ivar.

07:17And then as that happens, he doesn't see the tag.

07:19And then Ricky Saints coming into the ring and hitting his Rochambeau and pinning Rey Fenix.

07:24Now, there's some people who might be frustrated at Rey Fenix getting beat by Ricky Saints,

07:28who really has had no momentum for the recent past.

07:33However, Ricky Saints is an incredibly talented young man.

07:35He really is.

07:37We got to do something with him.

07:38You brought him to the main roster for a reason.

07:40Rey Fenix is not losing anything by losing this six-man tag team pin.

07:44It does give an opportunity for there to be a feud for that Cruiserweight Championship in AAA.

07:50Which we had that announcement on Raw that he's allowed to defend that championship across any brand.

07:54Which we already knew because he's already done it.

07:56But at this point, I think they set this up so we could start that feud.

08:00Which is bittersweet for me.

08:02I understand he's the Cruiserweight Champion of AAA and you want to do some really exciting matches on the main

08:06roster.

08:06I'm cool with that.

08:07Here's the problem I have.

08:09He needs to be doing stuff with AAA talent to continue to get them over.

08:13Doing a feud with Ricky Saints.

08:14I don't know how I feel about that.

08:16And I'm still chomping at the bit to see him have a tag team match on the main roster with

08:20Penta.

08:21And I think they could have worked him into the Money in the Bank conversation.

08:24And maybe allowed them to at least get some tandem stuff going on at Money in the Bank.

08:29But then he wasn't even in the qualifiers.

08:31So just not thrilled with that.

08:33Because I am a huge fan of the Lucha Brothers.

08:34And I do want to see them on a WWE stage at some point together.

08:38However, no time too soon because I really feel like Penta is riding a wave of really great popularity and

08:44exposure right now.

08:45So we'll have to wait and see how it comes.

08:46From there, another vignette in the back.

08:48Charlotte Flair, Tatum Paxley, Alexa Bliss.

08:51And they're talking about how next week Charlotte lets Tatum know that they're going to get an opportunity at the

08:56Women's Tag Team Championship against Fatal Influence.

08:59Which is exciting, you know.

09:01So I think that we haven't seen anything of substance for them in quite a few weeks.

09:05So this is going to get them back into the fold.

09:07And hopefully, you know, for quite a while there, those championships are being built to being something of substance, something

09:13of importance.

09:14And now for the last several weeks, they really haven't had any value whatsoever.

09:19We need to build those back up because I really feel like at some point we're going to see the

09:24Bellas come in.

09:25We have to get the belts onto a babyface tag team.

09:27If we don't see them on a babyface tag team, then it's going to be very difficult to get those

09:32championships over onto the Bellas.

09:34Which it has to happen because then we need to see the Bellas take on AJ Lee and Paige.

09:38Because we're going to do that match at some point.

09:40It's the only match that makes sense.

09:42And the two of them, those two teams facing off for any other reason other than the Tag Team Championship

09:46doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

09:48And let's be honest, the championships, the Bellas deserve to run with them at some point anyways.

09:52This is a great way to give that to them.

09:54I think AJ Lee and Paige getting a run with them would also be very entertaining.

09:57I don't know what you do after that, but we have to get to that.

10:00That match has to take place.

10:02So if this Charlotte Flair Tatum Paxley Championship opportunity leads to winning the championship in Fatal Influence,

10:08because they haven't really done anything with them, and that leads to the Bellas taking them, I get it.

10:13Makes a lot of sense.

10:14I'm cool with that if it leads to the tag team match we've been talking about for months.

10:18From their in-ring segment, Sami Zayn out there cutting a promo.

10:21And I'm going to be honest with you, this entire promo segment, I loved everything Sami Zayn said.

10:28I'm sure it was predetermined what he was going to say for the most part, but a lot of that

10:31felt like shooting from the heart.

10:33The guy has been through a lot.

10:35He really has.

10:36Now, as he's cutting his promo, he's interrupted by Raw's Javon Evans coming out.

10:40I actually thought they might set up a match for that for tonight.

10:43You know what I mean?

10:44Have Javon and Sami in a non-championship match.

10:48Get Sami Zayn to perform in front of the crowd because they were booing him pretty hardcore.

10:51It would be solid, and everybody's obviously behind Javon Evans.

10:54That doesn't happen.

10:55Instead, next out, after Javon talks some trash and talks about cashing in on Sami Zayn,

11:00out comes Penta, which was very exciting.

11:02His entrance is one of the best entrances in all of wrestling.

11:05He and Will Ospreay are kind of in a league of their own right now.

11:07Maybe Roman Reigns.

11:09There's not a lot to have the kind of entrances these guys have.

11:11Penta comes out to the ring.

11:13I'll be honest with you.

11:14I really feel like his interview and promo skills are increasing exponentially,

11:17which is only going to further the desire for people in the higher-ups to give him an opportunity with

11:22a world championship,

11:22which I think is absolutely going to happen at some point.

11:26He's making his intentions known for cashing in potentially on Sami.

11:30And then we have Trick Williams come out.

11:31And Trick, his skill on the mic has just, I mean, it's exploded.

11:37There's a reason he was brought to the main roster.

11:39He is athletic.

11:40He's a great wrestler.

11:41I get all that.

11:41But, man, this guy can talk.

11:43He is doing a great job.

11:45And him getting in the ring, talking some trash to Sami, I've beat you twice.

11:48I'm going to beat you again for the championship.

11:50And then Sami takes over again.

11:52And everything Sami says is true.

11:54It talks about how at least two of the people in the ring are going to be losers.

11:58And what happens after you're a loser?

12:01When the losses start to pile up and the fans don't give you the same responses you're talking about.

12:05And he talks about all that adversity he had been through and how he rose to the occasion and won

12:09the championship.

12:09Not once, but twice.

12:11And he talks about how these guys can't hang with him.

12:13I actually thought it was funny that Trick actually threw a line out there about Sami's breath.

12:16And Sami went back to it.

12:18That was a little awkward.

12:19I don't know if that was scripted.

12:20Maybe there's some heat there.

12:21Maybe not.

12:22I don't know.

12:23But seeing the whole interplay there.

12:25And he hit him with a line.

12:26He's like, you guys don't deserve to be in the ring with the WWE champion.

12:29He leaves the ring.

12:30Starts to head to the back.

12:31And as he gets up the runway, Finn Balor's music hits.

12:34Finn comes out.

12:35There's no microphone.

12:36He just gets in his face.

12:37He's like, I told you.

12:38I'm coming for that championship.

12:40Sami responds with basically, do something to earn a shot at the championship.

12:44Which Finn then decks Sami Zayn.

12:45And after he hits Sami Zayn, Gunther appears from behind.

12:49And he starts to choke Finn Balor at first in a sleeper.

12:52Spins around.

12:52Hits a clothesline.

12:53Takes him out.

12:54Sami gets up.

12:54And it almost looks like it's a friendly situation with Gunther.

12:57Putting his hands up.

12:58Like, no, no, no.

12:58We're good.

12:59We're good.

12:59And Gunther grabs him and clotheslines Sami Zayn.

13:01And throws him into a ladder.

13:02Throws Balor into a ladder.

13:04And Gunther is on a rampage.

13:06And it's an interesting situation on SmackDown right now.

13:08And I hate to say it this way.

13:09But it's the truth.

13:10I feel like this is like 1980s NWA levels at the top of the card.

13:16There's so many superstars at the top of the card on SmackDown.

13:19They can't all be world champions.

13:21So you're making them relevant with other ways.

13:23Gunther, not really in the world championship picture right now.

13:26So having him do this, solid stuff.

13:28Finn Balor, this was solid.

13:30Sami Zayn is the champion.

13:31But obviously the Money in the Bank match is the premium match that they're looking for at this next pay

13:35-per-view.

13:36Sami stays relevant.

13:37So it was all very well put together.

13:39Very well orchestrated.

13:40Keeps Gunther like that monster heel.

13:42I really liked everything about this.

13:45From there, we end up getting a Chelsea Green, Tiffany Stratton, Lash Legend segment in the back.

13:52I could have gone the rest of my life without this segment.

13:54But it's more Money in the Bank conversation.

13:56Basically really planning to see that Tiffany could win this thing and then challenge Chelsea Green.

14:02I think that would be great.

14:03I'm sure the storyline with her winning and then challenging for the Raw championship

14:08is a sales pitch they can go with.

14:11But obviously it would be Tiffany and Chelsea.

14:14Lash Legend coming in.

14:16Now they already had their issue with Paige earlier.

14:18Paige and Nikki Bella earlier.

14:20Now Lash Legend's in there.

14:21So they're really mixing it up with everybody.

14:23Chelsea Green has a lot of enemies coming from a lot of different directions.

14:26I kind of like where this is going.

14:28Then we see another backstage segment.

14:31Gunther walking into the hallway.

14:32He's approached for an interview.

14:33And as he does that, Dan Housen appears trying to detect whether there's any evil in him.

14:38And he's got this contraption he's put together.

14:40And Gunther takes it, throws it away.

14:41And then he slams Dan Housen into the wall and throws him into the opposite wall.

14:46And I don't know where you're going with this.

14:47But I cannot believe I'm going to say this.

14:50One, obviously I want to see a Gunther Finn Balor match.

14:52And I want it to be hard hitting.

14:53And I want it to be more than 10 minutes long.

14:55But I'm actually going to say I would love to see the serious ring general of Gunther

15:01take on the comedic insanity of Dan Housen.

15:05I'm okay with it.

15:06I'm here for it.

15:07I want to see it now.

15:08I never in my lifetime would have thought I would want to see that match.

15:11I do now.

15:12I don't know why.

15:13It's so intriguing to me.

15:15But we'll have to wait on that one because we've still got more things to come.

15:19We have Julia and Blake Monroe finally getting their match off the ground.

15:24Here's the thing though, right?

15:25Everything about the match is solid right up until the end.

15:28The ending sees Julia go up to the turnbuckle.

15:31It looks like she's going to perform a move on Tiffany Stratton.

15:34Stratton gets up there and kind of takes her legs out from under her.

15:36And they do this spot where she hits her head on not the turnbuckle, but the post behind

15:41the buckle.

15:42And then she's like knocked out cold.

15:44Monroe slides into the ring and pins her, picks up the win in her big, you know, blow

15:49this big match that they've been trying to build to for several weeks.

15:52And here's the thing.

15:54When you're bringing a new talent like Blake Monroe to the main roster, I really think

15:57that they should have had her in the ring, get a clean victory over somebody first.

16:01And if you don't want to beat Julia, and I really don't think you should be.

16:04I think you've destroyed her character.

16:05It's time to build her back up.

16:06If you don't want to beat Julia to get and take anything away from her, I don't care.

16:10Bring somebody up from NXT, grab somebody who you're not going to push, have her beat

16:14Natalya or something like that.

16:16I don't care.

16:16But you got to do something where you make it so Blake Monroe could have hit finishing

16:21moves and had a real dominant performance.

16:23Instead, this was a very 50-50 match.

16:26So I guess that's good for Julia.

16:28But then no finisher for the match.

16:30It's this corner spot, which was very awkward, very clunky.

16:33I was not a fan.

16:34We get a Sami Zayn, Johnny Gargano moment in the back.

16:37Candice LeRae is there.

16:39Basically, it sounds like there was a predetermined arrangement between the two for the Money

16:43in the Bank qualifier that Gargano is going to be a part of in the main event.

16:46Sami Zayn tells him that he spoke to Nick Aldis, and he is not allowed to interfere.

16:51He's been cautioned to not interfere.

16:52But he hypes him up.

16:53He smacks a water bottle across the thing and charges out to the ring for the main event,

16:57which is going to be very well done.

17:00We have Cody Rhodes, Kevin Owens, and Johnny Gargano heading to the ring

17:03for the main event.

17:05And by the way, I forgot earlier in the show when there was a backstage segment with Cody

17:10Rhodes and Trick Williams, which I was very excited about.

17:13I wish they'd get over the Randy Orton thing so we could do that, because I'd like to see

17:16that, Trick Williams and Cody Rhodes.

17:18They had some back and forth.

17:19But now back to the main event, though.

17:23Cody KO Gargano.

17:24Tons of high spots.

17:26Great movesets all over the place.

17:28One of my favorite moments, and not trying to be like, it's almost like this week has

17:31been thematic.

17:32I'm not trying to be like cheap heat guy, but he hits a release German, and you hear

17:38on commentary they go, that was very Neville-esque.

17:40And I thought that was really nice that they included that in there.

17:43We get to the one spot where you have Cody Rhodes hits a crossroads on Kevin Owens, and

17:49as he goes for the pin, Randy Orton pulls the referee out of the ring, goads Cody Rhodes

17:54into coming outside the ring.

17:55They're fighting outside.

17:56It looks for a moment like Randy's going to put Cody through a table.

17:59Cody looks like he's going to put Randy through a table.

18:01As they fight off, Randy ends up getting knocked down.

18:04He's on his hands and knees.

18:05Cody backs up like he's going to go for the punt.

18:07And as he runs to do the punt, Johnny Gargano comes out of nowhere and hits Cody.

18:11Cody takes Cody out, climbs back in the ring, hits his leaping bulldog or DDT over the top

18:18rope, goes to ping Kevin Owens.

18:20There's a kick out.

18:20He's shocked.

18:22There was actually, I apologize, earlier in the match, there was a spot where Candice LeRae

18:26took a table bump that was awesome.

18:29But then after he doesn't get the pin on his tornado DDT over the rope thing, Kevin Owens,

18:35as he's staggering, Kevin Owens ends up hitting with a super kick, throws him into the rope,

18:39hits the pop-up powerbomb.

18:40And as he goes for the pin, Cody's coming in to break up the pin.

18:43And Randy Orton is outside the ring, holding him by the legs.

18:45One, two, three.

18:45Kevin Owens qualifies for money in the bank.

18:48And Randy Orton costs Cody Rhodes yet again.

18:51Obviously, we're getting another match with Cody and Randy.

18:54I know when we were leading up to the first time they were going to meet, there was a

18:57lot of conjecture about how they were going to do it and stuff like that.

19:00We knew it was coming at some point.

19:02And I hate to say this.

19:03I waited so long for that feud.

19:04It was a dream feud.

19:06Now I'm over it.

19:07I don't want to see it anymore.

19:09I want to see Randy go face Sami Zayn, to be perfectly honest with you.

19:12I wouldn't mind Randy dethroning Sami Zayn.

19:14I like Sami.

19:16I love this promo tonight.

19:17I think everything about what he's doing right now is valid.

19:20It's legitimate.

19:21He's just not a big enough star to be the face of the company.

19:24And that's who should be carrying the WWE Championship.

19:27If Sami Zayn was carrying the World Heavyweight Championship, I don't know that I would care

19:31as much.

19:31But the WWE Championship should be the flagship championship in the company.

19:36It should be your standard bearer.

19:38It should be the face of your organization.

19:40That, to me, is not Sami Zayn.

19:42It could be Cody.

19:43It has been for the last couple years.

19:45It could be Roman.

19:46It has been for the last several years.

19:47It could be somebody like Seth because they're on that level.

19:50But it could be KO.

19:51I'd be okay with that as well.

19:53But it's not Sami Zayn.

19:54But it also, historically speaking, Randy Orton has been that guy before, has a huge

19:59following, huge presence.

20:00I wish they would consider putting the championship on Randy.

20:03That being said, obviously, I've said this before.

20:07It's clear to me what's going on here.

20:09The reason that Sami Zayn has the championship and is not going to lose it anytime soon is

20:13because he's going to be going to Crown Jewel to face Roman Reigns in a champion versus

20:16champion match where I predicted in the past.

20:19I'm going to predict it again here.

20:20I'm sticking with what I felt before.

20:22The 946 is going to cost Roman Reigns the Crown Jewel championship match against Sami

20:27Zayn, which is going to then feed into Survivor Series where Team Roman will face Team 946.

20:33That being said, I've been giving star ratings to these shows lately.

20:36And I got to tell you, I was really happy with SmackDown tonight.

20:39The physicality, the match quality, the match length.

20:42There was actual time given to these matches to develop and be something.

20:46And here's the thing.

20:47If you read like spoilers online and stuff like that, you cannot read it and do it justice.

20:52You have to watch the matches, their quality.

20:55This was a great show.

20:56This was the opposite of what Raw was.

20:58I gave Raw a horrible score this week.

21:00I wasn't impressed at all.

21:01This, this for me, I'm going to be honest, I feel like this was like a four and a half

21:05star show.

21:06I really do.

21:06I can't give it five because there's too many people not on the show.

21:10I think when we get back to three hour episodes, I'll probably be, see more five star level capable shows.

21:16But right now, this is four and a half solid stars.

21:19SmackDown was enjoyable tonight.

21:20Everything about it with, I was okay with for the most part.

21:23I don't think there was anything I vehemently disagree with.

21:26I love that we furthered the storylines heading into Money in the Bank.

21:29I feel like we've laid the groundwork for future booking and character arcs.

21:35There's a lot of things going on with the different characters within the programming.

21:38I love that we're going to see a Ricky Saints and Ray Phoenix feud at some point.

21:43I think that's a solid feud to have.

21:45So I love that we're going to probably somewhere down the line see the Trick Williams-Cody Rhodes match.

21:50I love that as well.

21:52Randy, Sammy, probably at some point.

21:54I love all of it.

21:55I really do.

21:56Now, going into Money in the Bank, I don't know who you give the win to.

22:00There's certain people who don't need the win, like a CM Punk.

22:04There's certain people that would be poetic if it's a KO cashing in on Sammy.

22:08There's some people who you could really elevate, giving it to Penta to cash in on Roman.

22:12Perhaps, again, like I said, follow the train of thought.

22:15Crown Jewel, Roman, Sammy.

22:18Roman ends up losing because of interference by 9-4-6.

22:20Sammy wins Crown Jewel Championship.

22:22Roman goes and brings his team against the 9-4-6 at the Survivor Series.

22:27At Survivor Series, at the end of the match, Roman could be laid out.

22:31Penta could cash in if he's the Money in the Bank holder.

22:33Take the championship from Roman.

22:34Roman, lose it back to him at the Royal Rumble, and then Roman could go on to face Obafemi.

22:38I don't think that kills Roman off.

22:40I really don't.

22:41Not in today's wrestling world.

22:43Look at AEW.

22:44Look at all the championship changes they've done with the World Championship.

22:47MJF is still as big a star as he's ever been.

22:49He's lost the title, what, three, four times.

22:51You know, Darby Allin loses the championship, doesn't even try to get it back,

22:54and he's still on top of the mountain.

22:56Like, these guys, they can take a loss and still be megastars.

23:00Speaking of, Kenny Omega, still a megastar, even though he just lost to Will Ospreay.

23:03So, I don't think Roman loses that much momentum for dropping the title for a couple months to Penta,

23:09certainly under the circumstances that you could do under the scenario that I presented.

23:13However, that's a lot of future booking.

23:15I don't want to tie you guys up with that tonight.
