04:03That being said, let's get into the NXT conversation.
04:07We are into the semifinals of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.
04:12We have Romeo Marino and Noam Dar starting the show going against Brad Baylor and Ricky Smokes.
04:17And look, here's the thing, right?
04:19When they started the Dusty Classic several years ago, you had teams like FTR, American Alpha, Sanity.
04:28You had Finn Balor and Samoa Joe.
04:32You had really quality tag teams.
04:34Now, I'm not trying to take anything away from Romeo Marino and Noam Dar or Brad Baylor and Ricky Smokes.
04:40But I feel like for so long, NXT has cultivated so much talent that they've moved too many people to
04:47the main roster.
04:48And now a lot of these young guys, they don't hold the reputation that NXT has always held for this
04:54tournament.
04:55So going into this, one of these two teams is going to the finals.
04:58Now, I would imagine going into this that they're really trying to elevate some new guys and get them some
05:05exposure, get them into a premium match.
05:08You know, like that's got to be, if it's not the main event, it's going to be one of the
05:12main events of the show.
05:14So, as this match progresses, Noam Dar and Romeo Marino pick up to win some tandem tag team moves there.
05:20I have no problem with the match.
05:22These guys are young.
05:24They're getting their reps in.
05:27Noam Dar is one of the best people in the business to be a mentor to some of these young
05:31guys.
05:31So, it's actually shocking to me that he's been down in NXT as long as he has and hasn't moved
05:36back to the main roster.
05:37But I feel like he fits a role there.
05:40And him being in the ring with these three guys is only going to make them better.
05:43I feel like he's got a great position right now in NXT, being the veteran, the leader, and being able
05:49to contribute in more than just the professional wrestling way.
05:52I'm sure he's helping cultivate talent behind the scenes as well.
05:55We get a promo from Cruz Montana.
05:57He's making sure Dion Lennox is aware that, you know, he shouldn't have brought his family into the equation.
06:03And I like the one line he uses here.
06:05He says, my past is going to be your future.
06:07He talks about how Dion Lennox brought something out of him that he tried to repress and whatnot.
06:13I don't know how I feel about these types of storylines.
06:15You're like, you're somehow, you're some bad guy hiding it from the world because you're, he's a baby face.
06:21You know, he shouldn't be hiding these demons.
06:23He should have expunged these demons when he turned baby face.
06:26I'm not a big fan of that type of storyline.
06:28I'm really not.
06:30Certainly not when it's somebody like Cruz Montana.
06:31You want to do that with like a Jake the Snake Roberts kind of character.
06:34I could see it.
06:35Cruz Montana, not so much.
06:36He's a good dude.
06:37He's always been a good dude.
06:38Even when LAX back in TNA days was, were heels.
06:42It was tough to buy them as heels because they were just so likable and they're just revolutionary wrestlers.
06:47So I don't know.
06:49I feel like Cruz Montana has kind of got the shaft since he got to NXT.
06:52He should have been NXT champion by now.
06:54And I'm not trying to dump on the current NXT champion, Grayson Waller or Tony D from before or any
06:59of that.
07:00I just think that Cruz Montana walking in had so much momentum.
07:03And now I feel like he's a mid-carder in NXT, not even on the main roster.
07:07A mid-carder in NXT.
07:09Much like Joe Hendry has become on the main roster.
07:12Jordan Grace is non-existent.
07:14These TNA NXT talents, you know, the guys who came in from TNA and went to NXT, they just don't
07:20seem to get the sustained pushes that you would like them to see.
07:22Even people who didn't come from TNA.
07:24Julia, you know, she got the United States Championship for a hot minute.
07:27But other than that, she's done nothing on the main roster.
07:30Blake Monroe's just now finally wrestling matches.
07:33She came up right after WrestleMania.
07:34I don't know.
07:36I just feel like the main roster bumbles these people.
07:38And now you've got Cruz Montana being fumbled down at the NXT level.
07:41That's just my perception of it.
07:43We get Lizzie Reign versus Chantel Moore.
07:45Chantel Moore is really, it's her debut.
07:48And look, I think that this match went a little long for me.
07:53There's clearly these ladies need more time.
07:56They're not main roster ready.
07:58Chantel Moore does pick up the win holding the bottom rope.
08:01I don't love that for your debut.
08:03I don't.
08:03That makes you look incredibly weak.
08:05When you bring a talent to do their matches on television, they need to get over the first
08:11match or two strong.
08:13Not grabbing a bottom rope.
08:15Not cheating to win.
08:16None of that stuff.
08:17Didn't like that part of it.
08:18I mean, look, I'm sure she's going to have a bright future in front of her.
08:21And as is Lizzie Reign.
08:23But I really just wish they would learn how to book people strong.
08:29If you think about it, in the last three months, four months, think about how many matches have
08:33been ended with a foot on the bottom rope or a hand on the bottom rope.
08:37How the bottom rope is becoming everybody's best friend.
08:39And it's so repetitive and boring.
08:42Give us some really revolutionary stuff.
08:44Give these ladies a move set that really blows your mind.
08:47Have them hit some crazy finisher and go for a pin.
08:49And that gets somebody over.
08:51This doesn't really get anybody over to me.
08:54From there, we go from Lizzie Reign to Izzy Dame.
08:56I call her Dame.
08:57Izzy Dame.
08:58And she's the one who is challenging Zarya to a match.
09:02But Zarya tried to put the North America title on the line last week.
09:05She said no.
09:06You know, she's going to expose Zarya for what she is.
09:09And then she's going to take the last thing she has left.
09:11None of this makes sense.
09:12This is horrible booking.
09:14I don't need to know about some, you know, middle school play for Zarya from, you know,
09:1920 years ago.
09:20I just want to see wrestling.
09:22Like, this is where you overthink storylines.
09:24This is more laborious, boring, long-drawn-out nonsense that nobody needs.
09:30Zarya, it was over.
09:31She didn't need any help getting over.
09:33She's a unique enough character.
09:35Really, she's main roster ready.
09:37Izzy Dame is another one who's very close to main roster ready.
09:41These two just need to go in there and have a knockdown, dragout match and kill it.
09:45But they're being held back.
09:48Saquon Sugars versus Shawn Legacy.
09:50Shockingly, after a Spanish fly, Shawn Legacy picks up the win.
09:53I actually expected Saquon Sugars to win this.
09:55I think he has more to offer.
09:57He has a higher ceiling.
10:00I know that they've, you know, kind of built this up the last couple weeks.
10:03And I feel like if you look at the main roster, Raw and SmackDown, Raw is all storyline-driven.
10:09SmackDown has more of the action.
10:10There are a few storylines.
10:12NXT has been almost like a hybrid of the two.
10:14They gave us a lot of action tonight.
10:16And they gave us storyline.
10:18Saquon Sugars, I feel like, really is one of the, this match here against Shawn Legacy was
10:22one of the few matches that didn't really have as much built into it as you needed to,
10:27to build the drama, get some heat on somebody, make it interesting.
10:31I felt another boring kind of match.
10:34If I'm being honest, I hate saying that because I'm not trying to dump on the talent.
10:37It's not the talent's fault.
10:39This is up to the agents who need to put together better, more engaging matches.
10:42We get a backstage segment where Cam Hendricks is on a basketball court and he's the best
10:47athlete on the roster and he's shooting threes and slam dunking a basketball and somehow he's
10:52mad because he's not on the card for the North American Championship.
10:58Why do we have to incorporate basketball?
11:01It's so typecasting.
11:03It's so beneath this character.
11:05Cam Hendricks is a great talent.
11:06He's an incredibly, you know, interesting young man for the roster.
11:11I think he could have a really, really high ceiling, great future in front of him.
11:15I don't need him on a basketball court.
11:17I don't care about his basketball skills.
11:18I want to see him beat somebody up.
11:20That's what he should be there for.
11:23So it's like WWE doing vignettes for the sake of doing vignettes.
11:26It's kind of stupid if you ask me.
11:28Miles Bourne comes out.
11:29He and Tavion Heights, they're trying to brawl.
11:32They're getting separated by security.
11:34And then we get our first appearance of Dan Housen, who is going to spin the wheel.
11:39And it turns out that they're going to have a weapons wild match at Halloween Havoc, which I'm fine with
11:44that.
11:45I suppose the spin the wheel, make a deal kind of, I don't know.
11:49It's not as consequential as it used to be when Sting and Jake Roberts did it.
11:55It was the culmination of a legendary feud between two top tier wrestlers.
11:59Now we're getting mid-card guys in NXT that are using this.
12:02And I don't know.
12:03It just doesn't do anything for me.
12:05I'm sure the match will be solid.
12:06And if Miles Bourne and Tavion Heights can put on a clinic, that'll be exciting to watch.
12:11I hope it's brutal.
12:12Not because I want to see guys get hurt.
12:14I don't.
12:15But we need a pop here.
12:16And these guys have the ability.
12:18They could really, you know, they could steal the show at Halloween Havoc.
12:22So I really hope that's exactly what happens.
12:26But right now, there's not a lot of other storylines that are pulling my interest.
12:31This was one of them.
12:32I would really love to see one of these two challenging for the NXT championship at this point.
12:37I think they've earned that.
12:38They've worked well together.
12:40We'll have to see whoever comes out of this match as the winner of the feud.
12:44Where do they go next?
12:45Do they go for the NXT championship?
12:46That would be okay with me.
12:48Even though I think the NXT roster is kind of stacked at the top,
12:51I think that would be a good progression for whoever wins this feud.
12:55We get Deion Lennox in the back with Osiris Griffin and Cutler James.
12:59They're talking to Robert Stone about Cruz Montana.
13:01And if they're going to have this match between Deion Lennox and Cruz Montana,
13:05it has to be an unsanctioned match, which, of course, Deion Lennox agrees to right away.
13:09We'll get that match next week.
13:12I'm fine with the match.
13:13Let's get this wrapped up so Cruz Montana can go do something more important.
13:17Because this is almost an insult to how incredible he is.
13:20He's at the top of the food chain in TNA, top of the food chain in AEW,
13:25goes back to TNA, becomes world champion, and then goes to NXT and he just gets buried.
13:31That's really what I feel like he's doing is getting buried.
13:33So hopefully this unsanctioned match will get him back on track
13:36and we can see him do something more significant.
13:38We get the other half of the semifinals in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic,
13:42Hank and Tank taking on the Wagner brothers.
13:45I'll be honest with you.
13:46I wanted the Wagners to win this so bad it's ridiculous.
13:48Hank and Tank, I have no problem with.
13:50They're a phenomenal tag team.
13:52Won the tag team championship a short time ago.
13:54I just, it almost has that bend there, done that feel.
13:59The Wagners, even though they're the AAA tag team champions,
14:03I really believe that the AAA partnership has been one of the more successful integrations
14:08of cross-brandedness in WWE, and you really could have hit that home run out of the park
14:14if you let the Wagners go into the finals for the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.
14:18Instead, they lose here, which doesn't that mean that Hank and Tank should get a championship
14:24opportunity at the AAA Tag Team Championship?
14:26I mean, that's what it seems like would make sense to me.
14:29Instead, they'll win the Tag Team Classic and get a shot at the NXT Tag Team Championship.
14:33You know what I mean?
14:33Like, it just, I don't love the psychology of the whole thing.
14:37And honestly, I'm just a huge fan of the Wagners, so maybe I'm biased.
14:41Kalani Jordan's in the back.
14:43Adam Pearce talking to her about, you know, he's going to be watching her match and, you
14:47know, all this and that.
14:48EO Sky appears, which, shocking.
14:50It's not normally a thing we'd see on NXT.
14:55Um, she does not like Kalani Jordan's attitude.
14:58Kalani, if you remember, just got married to, uh, to Carmelo Hayes.
15:02Congrats to the, to the happy couple.
15:05Um, but we have Kendall Gray and Ren Sinclair watching this little interlude in the back.
15:10Obviously, they have interest in the NXT Women's Championship.
15:13That, I'm sure, is going to come to fruition very, very soon.
15:16I actually think Kendall Gray and Ren Sinclair may flip on each other at some point because
15:20it's the natural progression of things.
15:21Um, but, interesting to see EO and Kalani.
15:24That's a match I think we could all enjoy seeing.
15:27Kalani's incredible.
15:28She's main roster ready too, but like I said, when you have Jordan Grace at the main roster
15:32and you can't figure out what to do with her, I don't want to bring anybody else up.
15:35They could have left Sol Ruka down there.
15:37You know, they could have left other people down.
15:39Like, I just, I don't see the sense of bringing people up if you have nothing for them to do.
15:43You should have six to nine months worth of creative ideas in place before bringing a talent
15:47to the main roster.
15:48That's just my opinion.
15:49And I think it's, it's, it's irresponsible to bring talent up without that.
15:53We get the announcement that John Cena will be at NXT next week.
15:56I theorize that this is going to be so he can announce the details of the John Cena Classic.
16:01He announced it earlier this summer.
16:03Hasn't said anything really important about it since.
16:05And at some point, you just got to bite the bullet and do what you got to do.
16:08I know they popped, brought him in to pop the town when he came in and made the announcement.
16:12Now you got to kind of have to pay, pay it off somewhere.
16:14So I suggest that this is probably where they're going to do that and set that up for December.
16:19But obviously it'll help him get a big rating.
16:22Then we get Zillafatou out.
16:24He is looking for some revenge against Birthright.
16:29Ariana Grace comes out.
16:31She's trash talking about like he only has the spot he has because of his last name,
16:35which is exactly what Birthright is.
16:37Hence the name Birthright.
16:39While he is distracted by her, he ends up getting attacked and laid out by Birthright,
16:44which is fine.
16:45He wanted to spin the wheel and make the deal also.
16:47So, you know, this was a good segue for this feud to continue.
16:52And, you know, you get to beat down to leave Zillafatou lay.
16:54And Zillafatou's been booked really strong since coming to NXT.
16:57So I think him getting beaten down is actually probably a good decision.
17:01Ariana Grace getting some FaceTime is always a good thing because it helps the faction,
17:05helps her do something more meaningful.
17:07And then we get our main event, Jackson Drake versus EK Prosper for the North American Championship.
17:13And the match is great.
17:15EK Prosper's really growing on me.
17:16He's one of my favorite talents in NXT right now.
17:19I was curious if they would give him the championship since he just had an NXT championship match and lost
17:25that.
17:25This could have been like the consolation prize.
17:27But that is not to happen.
17:29Earlier in the night when we saw that ridiculous basketball promo, we see Cam Hendricks show up.
17:34He goes over.
17:35He shoves EK Prosper off the turnbuckle.
17:37There's a running knee from Jackson Drake.
17:39And Jackson Drake picks up the win and retains the North American Championship.
17:44Solid stuff.
17:44Obviously, we're going to see Cam Hendricks and EK Prosper.
17:47I think it'll be a great match.
17:49I think they're both worldly talented.
17:51Of what's left on the roster that's not like former TNA guys or, you know, Grayson Waller or people who've
17:57been there for forever.
17:58These two are probably two of the most talented and two of the people who I think are the future
18:02of NXT and eventually the main roster.
18:05So, I'm okay with all this.
18:08Then we get to a pull-apart brawl between Grayson Waller and Tony D'Angelo.
18:12Obviously, they're going to settle their issue at the Halloween Havoc.
18:16I felt like it was strange that we had the Hank and Tank Wagners match and then no other actual
18:20matches for the rest of the show.
18:22It was all vignettes and interviews and arguments and pull-apart brawls and all that kind of fun stuff.
18:28And I would have liked to have seen the show close with a match of some kind.
18:31It is a pro wrestling show.
18:33Don't you think we need some wrestling on our pro wrestling show?
18:35That's just my opinion.
18:37I don't know.
18:38What did you think of the show?
18:39I had some things I enjoyed.
18:40Some things I thought were ridiculous and not necessary.
18:44If I'm going with my five-star rating system, honestly, I'm not trying to be that guy.
18:48This was like two and three-quarter stars.
18:51I wasn't overly impressed with so much of it.
18:53I'm sorry.
18:54Again, I'm not trying to be overly critical of NXT.
18:56I think they do a great job most weeks.
18:58This just wasn't the week for me.
18:59I wasn't wowed by almost anything.
19:02I hate what they're doing with Cruz, Montana.
19:04I hate the ridiculous storyline with Zaria and North American Championship defense versus her jaded past of whatever we're waiting
19:12to hear about.
19:13There's just too much that's ridiculous.
19:16Multiple people asking for the spin the wheel, make the deal.
19:20And Dan Housen, he shows up for a simple announcement.
19:23What is that?
19:24Again, is that a pop the ratings kind of thing, but he didn't really do anything?
19:28I don't know.
19:28If people are going to be on the show, I want it to be meaningful.
19:30Io Sky, she should have been in a match.
19:32Get her in the ring.
19:33Have a match.
19:36But all in all, it wasn't the worst show I've ever seen, but it certainly could have done a lot,
19:40lot better.
