00:08We got all sorts of things to get into tonight.
00:11We were talking some Royal Rumble, some real American freestyle wrestling, and we have
00:16an update on WWE Crown Jewel.
00:18Before we get into all that, make sure you check out some tunes and I'll be right back
00:22with you.
00:44I got 141 and two-thirds chance of winning at Sacrifice.
00:55And you are just a bucktooth netto, baby.
01:00Who ate dog food for a weird old man.
01:03Yeah.
01:04Just when they think they got the answers, I changed the questions.
01:10Did he do it?
01:11Cover.
01:12Oh, and a kick out.
01:14Unbelievable.
01:15I will never repair.
01:18Turned too hot to handle and too cold to hold.
01:22And I am a macho-finger and savage.
01:26Shut them out, you thong-wearing fatty.
01:28It's me, Austin.
01:30Whoa!

01:4750-4.
01:49I said WWE stands for...
01:55Promotional consideration paid for by the following.
02:00Welcome back to the show.
02:01I am Dr. Fro.
02:03I want to thank you so much for joining us tonight.
02:05We are going to get into the news, the conversation, the rumors.
02:09But before we do any of that, let's cover the important stuff.
02:12Are you sick and tired of dropping way too much cash every single freaking year for the latest and greatest
02:18wrestling video game?
02:18I mean, if you think about it, once you get through all the character packs and expansion packs and all
02:23that stuff, you're talking $75 to $100 every single year.
02:26And let's be honest, the game doesn't really change all that much year to year.
02:31So, instead of wasting all that cash on something that's going to be out of date within six months, put
02:36the cash back in your pocket.
02:37Instead, go to Wrestler Unstoppable, available totally free.
02:41Create a wrestler.
02:42Sign contracts.
02:42Get in the storylines.
02:43Headline PLEs.
02:44Even build your own corporation from the ground up.
02:47It is all included in Wrestler Unstoppable.
02:49Like I said, totally free.
02:50Go to app.restlerunstoppable.com today.
02:53Sign up.
02:53It's free.
02:54Use your Facebook account or an email address.
02:56And while you're in the game, look up Odin Maximus.
03:00That is my avatar.
03:01If you send me an in-game message, let me know you're a listener.
03:04I will send you a contract offer to join my organization, Universal Wrestling Evolution, to help you get started in
03:09the game today.
03:10If you want to become a member of the Fro Wrestling Podcast family, you want your name in the shoutouts
03:13like John down in Texas, then the best way to do that is go to our Patreon page at patreon
03:18.com slash frowrestlingpodcast.
03:20Sign up today.
03:21If you just want to be a part of the family, we love that.
03:24Go and sign up at the free tier.
03:25No cost.
03:26No obligation.
03:26They just notify you every time new content goes live.
03:29We would love to have you be a part of that.
03:31If you want to be a monetary donor to the show, we'd appreciate that quite a bit as well.
03:36Well, any monetary donation, no matter if it's $1 or $50, I don't care what it is, every person who
03:41makes a monthly contribution gets their name in the shoutouts.
03:45If you want to do more than that, you want to be a part of the show, you want to
03:48co-host with me, I would love to do that.
03:50We'll set up an episode around your interests.
03:53We'll coordinate, and we can do that together.
03:55That is reserved for the people at our $15 a month or higher donation tier or at our $7.50
04:01a month if you are the lucky person that I draw at that month to host an episode with myself.
04:07If you've got questions, concerns, something you want me to touch on in a future episode, let's be honest, as
04:12much as I'd like to consider myself to be a wrestling guru, I don't always know what you want to
04:17know about.
04:18So, the best way to let me know is one of two ways.
04:20If you are patient and don't really need a quick response, you could always call into the Pro Wrestling Sound
04:25Offline, 267-642-1160.
04:27It's a talk-to-text service.
04:29It'll let me know whatever it is you want me to address.
04:31But if you want a more immediate response, something more expeditious, to use a nice big word for the day,
04:35then head over to whatever social media platform you're streaming our show from.
04:40Like, share, subscribe, and most importantly, comment.
04:44When you get a comment into any of the social media platforms, it sends me an alert, and I can
04:48respond to you in real time.
04:49I love that I've been getting more responses lately than I ever have before.
04:53Heck, we've been getting more views lately than we ever have before.
04:56That's all attributed to the incredible audience that we have.
04:59Thank you for being a part of that.
05:01We appreciate your loyalty, especially those who've been tuning in for the whole 14 years we've been doing this show.
05:07And it has been a heck of a ride, and the last couple months or so has been an absolute
05:11thrill for me to be able to connect with so many of you.
05:14So thank you for that.
05:15I really appreciate it.
05:16Let's get into the news for the day.
05:18Let's start with the Royal Rumble.
05:19Obviously, the Royal Rumble right now is scheduled to be February 6th, the same weekend as AEW Dynasty.
05:26There was some concern that WWE may try to counter-program Dynasty and put the Royal Rumble head-to-head
05:31with Dynasty on Sunday night.
05:32That is not the case.
05:33They're going to go Saturday, which means if you're a diehard fan like most of us are, you're still going
05:38to have a weekend full of wrestling, and that's a lot of time.
05:40Like, the Royal Rumble, both matches, plus there's usually two or three other matches.
05:43That's a lot of time to invest in WWE's product.
05:46Now, you couple the fact that you're going to also have to have a SmackDown episode Friday night.
05:50You're going to have AEW Dynasty Sunday, and you know that Dynasty is going to be loaded up with a
05:56good 10, 11, 12 matches.
05:58It's a big, long weekend, and then we follow that up with a Raw.
06:02However, the real conversation is around plans that apparently were being discussed within WWE to move this show altogether to
06:09a totally different weekend.
06:10The current plan is they are going between the NFC and AFC championship games in the NFL and the Super
06:16Bowl.
06:17That way, you're not getting direct competition from the NFL.
06:19But there was some thought that WWE should move the event two weeks ahead, move it up to, like, February
06:2620th.
06:27That way, you would end up getting all that advertising and promotional opportunity on ESPN Plus for the Royal Rumble
06:36whenever they're doing their Super Bowl promos.
06:39And then once you did that, it would increase viewership, hopefully.
06:41I mean, think about it.
06:42The Super Bowl goes out to, like, 100 million-plus people.
06:44That's more people getting eyes on your product and more people more likely to consider purchasing your product.
06:49But in the end, it sounds as though WWE has decided not to do that, not to go with that
06:54plan.
06:55Not because it's not a viable option, but because if you move the Royal Rumble up two weeks,
07:00you also limit the amount of weeks that you have to set up things like the Elimination Chamber.
07:04You limit the number of weeks you can prepare and gain heat or build storyline for your WrestleMania programs.
07:10So there's a lot at stake if you had made that move, if you had changed the show to a
07:14different weekend.
07:15So it sounds as though the reason they're staying is, one, obviously, I think even having two shows in a
07:20weekend,
07:21if you're a person who's only going to, you know, view one or the other,
07:25the Royal Rumble is a bigger draw than AEW Dynasty.
07:30However, I also think that they are trying to make sure they maintain the programming schedule that they've put together
07:35all year.
07:35Now, what happens next year?
07:37Do they purposefully plan to have the Royal Rumble two weeks later to avoid that same conflict
07:41and then maximize that brand partnership with ESPN+, Netflix, things like that?
07:46Don't know.
07:47It's a year away, but I think we could probably expect to hear something about that probably in August or
07:53September timeframe
07:54when they'll start releasing all the details for the Royal Rumble, maybe into October.
07:58It was a little bit later this year, but we'll have to wait and see.
08:01There is some big news in the Eric Bischoff world today.
08:04Eric Bischoff, the brand, the chief brand officer for Real American Freestyle Wrestling,
08:10the organization that he, Hulk Hogan, and some other investors were incorporating.
08:15They've run 16 shows at this point.
08:17The first show was last August.
08:18They've done relatively well for themselves in the short time they've been together,
08:21but they have done well enough that it was announced today through a social media post
08:25that they are acquiring World of Wrestling.
08:27Now, if you don't know what World of Wrestling is, it's an amateur organization that sets things up
08:30like the Tulsa Nationals, the Reno Worlds, and the Kickoff Classic,
08:35three very important tournaments in the world of amateur wrestling.
08:37So this is a massive acquisition for Real American Freestyle,
08:41and it really does lend some credence that the brand is doing well,
08:45that there is a future in freestyle amateur wrestling,
08:49that Eric Bischoff has hitched his wagon to a very good opportunity.
08:53And listen, I don't know if you've seen it, but I've watched some of the shows.
08:56The matches are pretty physical.
08:58Now, it's a little, it's different when you're a high stakes pro wrestling, you know,
09:03junkie like I am, and you want to see things like kicks and flips and twists and turns and dives.
09:07And all that kind of fun stuff, and even some weapons here and there.
09:10You're not going to see any of that with Real American Freestyle,
09:12but you do get to see world-class athletes going at it,
09:15and some of these matches that I've seen are just incredible.
09:18They really, really are.
09:20And I think Eric Bischoff and company have done a really good job of bringing that to the forefront
09:25and giving us something really respectable and really exciting to watch
09:29that's an alternative to the pro wrestling scene,
09:31where, you know, the biggest knock is always,
09:33oh, that's fake, that's fake, which, trust me,
09:35coming from somebody who's had five matches,
09:36it's not fake, it's predetermined, there is a difference.
09:40Those falls hurt.
09:41Trust me, they hurt.
09:43But I don't think any of them hurt.
09:45I was also an amateur wrestler in my youth,
09:46and I think amateur wrestling was much more difficult
09:50than anything I've had to do in professional wrestling.
09:52So, great athletes, great stuff.
09:55I respect them both.
09:56I love them both.
09:57And I'm thrilled that we now have, essentially, a professional organization
10:00that showcases that amateur component to the wrestling business.
10:06From there, Crown Jewel, we have an update that the broadcast is going to be
10:11significantly remotely engineered,
10:14that they're going to have satellite trucks outside, you know, in Stanford, Connecticut,
10:17and finding ways to use that technology to do some of the broadcasting,
10:22the distribution.
10:24I don't know if that means that they're going to do commentary remotely also.
10:28I guess that's a possibility.
10:29But where it is, it's a skeleton crew going.
10:31And there's quite a few people,
10:32but certainly not the same level they would put into other programs.
10:36And the really interesting thing was a report came out today
10:39that any of the crew that goes to Saudi Arabia is getting paid $3,000 in hazard pay.
10:46Why do you have to pay hazard pay if you're screaming to the gallows
10:50that this thing is going to be safe?
10:52Shapiro made it very clear he felt like things were going to be safe.
10:55The Saudi government was going to keep things safe.
10:57So if everything's going to be so simple and safe, why do you need hazard pay?
11:02The reality is, and it's the same thing you and I have known all along,
11:04this is not a safe situation.
11:06They shouldn't probably be going at all.
11:09Saudi Arabia is not backing down.
11:11They want to hold this event.
11:12They're pushing forward with it.
11:14Bad decision.
11:14Heaven forbid something terrible happens.
11:16We'll never forget it.
11:17And it'll be the blackest of black eyes in the world of wrestling history.
11:23However, at least the hazard pay offers some kind of monetary compensation
11:27if indeed things do come off without a hitch and we have a great pay-per-view
11:30and we do what we need to do and get home.
11:33So I don't know.
11:34I don't know if you're going to be watching.
11:35I'll be watching.
11:36I can't wait to see some of the matches.
11:37But I'm really disappointed that they're doing the show in Saudi.
11:40I really am.
11:41And not for the normal reasons.
11:42You know, going back to the first time they did one shortly after the Khashoggi,
11:45you know, murder.
11:47I think this is different.
11:48This is a situation where people are going to be putting themselves in harm's way
11:53for what?
11:54The almighty dollar?
11:56Terrible idea.
11:57And one other tidbit for tonight's episode.
11:59WWE apparently is planning something big for Dwayne The Rock Johnson's 30th anniversary
12:04in professional wrestling.
12:05I find that odd.
12:06Okay, I understand he debuted in November 1996.
12:09And if you want to celebrate, you know, the anniversary of his debut, that's one thing.
12:13But do not tell me that he's been in wrestling for 30 years.
12:15Even if he sits on the executive board for TKO, that's not, in my opinion, being in wrestling.
12:21The guy has been away more years than he's been in the business in that 30 years.
12:25I mean, let's be honest.
12:26His initial run was what?
12:28Five or six years?
12:29His next run was like a year and a half.
12:32He comes back for programs here and there.
12:34But he doesn't have a sustained career.
12:36He didn't have a 20-year wrestling career.
12:38And that may seem like an arbitrary number.
12:40But so many talents.
12:41People like, I was reading an article the other day about Chad Gable.
12:46Chad Gable has been in WWE.
12:47It was right before his appearance at NXT this week.
12:50He had debuted in NXT 13 years ago.
12:54That means Chad Gable has been in WWE twice as long as The Rock was for his longest run.
12:59Two times plus.
13:02So, I don't know, man.
13:03I don't, I'm just not a fan.
13:05If you want to mark the first appearance, the 30th anniversary of the first appearance,
13:10you do something simple on the night of that anniversary of that show or something like that.
13:14But to put some big crazy thing together, it's just ludicrous.
13:18When he had his 25th, they had some, like, stupid egg from the movie he was doing at the time.
13:23Read something or other.
13:24And that didn't go over well at all.
13:26People actually thought The Rock would be there and he wasn't.
13:28I think he should be here if they're going to celebrate him.
13:30I know he's got a busy schedule.
13:32But for heaven's sake, take a day.
13:33Like, seriously.
13:34This is why you have a job in Hollywood to begin with.
13:37Give back a little bit.
13:38It's just my opinion.
13:39For now, though, what do you think?
13:41You know what I think.
13:42I just told you what I think.
13:43What do you think?
13:44What do you think about Crown Jewel?
13:45Should they be going?
13:46I think I've asked that several times.
13:47But now that they're giving an incentive to talent, is that enough?
13:50If you were a crewman, would you be going?
13:52Let me know what you think.
13:53How do you feel about this Real American Freestyle thing?
13:55What is it about this that they're taking over the amateur wrestling world?
13:58Give me some comments about that if you'd like.
14:01Or what do you think of the Royal Rumble plan?
14:02Should they move it two weeks later next year, giving them less time for things like the Elimination Chamber and
14:10WrestleMania planning,
14:10but also potentially gaining viewership because of the traction they would get from a post-Super Bowl promotion?
14:17Don't know.
14:18Tell me what you think in the comments down below.
14:19But until next time, that's all the time we have for this episode.
14:23Special thanks, as always, to Suno for creating the music and sound effects I use in the show.
