00:21want to hear from address the media yesterday uh and we were coming off a lions game on sunday

00:38what's going on with jaylen duran is a huge story and it kind of goes a little bit next level

00:45and i'm gonna say a little bit because today training camp opens and unless there are there's
00:54a surprise he won't be there so what we're getting now is duran effectively impacting in a
01:04tangible way the team now missing the first day of training camp doesn't set you so far behind the
01:11eight ball that the team will never recover right but it this is the start of the ramp up the

01:20ramp up with the coach and you know everybody's been working out on their own you presume and they
01:25they admitted that they've had guys in and they've been working them out but now now they're starting
01:30training camp and duran's not there and i don't have issues at all with negotiating ploys they can be
01:38ugly i don't have issues at all with even quite frankly agents doing their job that's what they're hired
01:46to do and players are trying to do what's in their best interest and financially long term um and yet
01:59i do start to take issue when you impact the team and if your contract if you start putting your
02:07own
02:07personal contract and situation ahead of the team now we got a problem and it's we're not really there
02:18yet necessarily but i think that either way it's endurance best interest once he's here to be the
02:27best that he can possibly be um but you know this and there's there's some interesting reporting today
02:34that we'll get into but but scott i don't like him not being around for training camp i don't i

02:39hate it yet either there there's it's not like some tipping point but this is where they're starting
02:44to get ready for the season he's not here on the floor yeah it's it's interesting watching how this
02:50negotiation is playing out and comparing that to edvinson with the wings which is a totally different
02:55thing there because one player is what was at training camp without a contract the other player is not
03:01a training camp he has no contract either but with durin i i don't think it it affects it should
03:08affect the team at at all um and won't after this week because thursday's the day for the qualifying
03:17offer if he's going to accept it or not and you'll know at that point i suspect this is a
03:21lot of a lot
03:22of this is posturing to try to get the the biggest deal um i think it'll say something at the
03:28piston
03:28the reported number the pistons offered was 200 if the pistons come in higher than that
03:34that to me would be interesting to see if this plays out and then does it does that get it
03:39done
03:39just to get above the last the most recent number that we've seen um and if it doesn't if he
03:45ends up
03:45signing the qualifying offer then how are we left to think anything other than he doesn't want to be
03:50here now cade cunningham spoke yesterday he seemed to think that no he wants to be here he's talked to
03:56he's talked durin a lot over the summer okay i mean i guess i'll go on on the word of
04:01the player
04:02in cade cunningham what he had to say because he went on record with that yesterday that's not like
04:08oh i overheard somebody no this is cade cunningham in front of cameras and microphones saying that
04:12he's talked with jaylen durin and durin wants to be here okay um great let's let's move on with that
04:20so i i hope we hear something today or tomorrow um but i don't think this is going to be
04:26something
04:26that lingers in too much longer than that just because there is that deadline of the qualifying
04:30offer okay so trajan as he spoke about this yesterday made a couple of points and for people
04:36who missed it we kind of briefly talked about it um but he said you know when he was with
04:41the
04:41pelicans they navigated a difficult situation with a player and the presumption is it's zion
04:45williamson he said when he was with the cavaliers tristan thompson held out for into the season
04:51and joined the team and they won it all so you know he he's got some experience with this he's
04:59seen
04:59examples of when things have worked out for the team and maybe when it didn't necessarily um and
05:05then you know we wanted to bring you some of what he had to say so here's piston president of

05:10operations trajan langdon are you worried about durin getting here and being a disgruntled player
05:43he gets quieter and quieter as the country
05:45goes he goes he goes into gm mode like he sat down and kind of joked around a little bit

05:50the media and i felt like his real personality came came out and the moment the questions start
05:54coming in he downshifts into gm mode and is super calculated and and kind of a low talker but hey
06:02look whatever it is i think he's a pretty sharp guy and i i do like him uh and i
06:09like his work so far
06:11he did say he wouldn't talk at all about negotiations but um was every chance he got he was talking
06:19about
06:19how they can't wait to have durin here yeah and and i think that's it's smart from him from his
06:26standpoint that he's got to be that way he's he's a friendly calculated gm right he's going to say the
06:32right things in public and i think he does and and behind the scenes i can't imagine that he's
06:37terribly different from being a calculated negotiator too and he knows what the process is
06:43this could be a completely different story on friday but right now it feels like this is still
06:50in that negotiation process which i can't believe it still is at this point this seems like this is
06:55something that should have been done weeks ago if not months ago and for whatever reasons it hasn't
07:01and i think that's like once all this is settled that's like one of the big questions i would want
07:06to hear from jayland durin is what took so long why why did this process drag out as long as
07:11it has
07:12okay more from trades at langdon are there bad feelings right now between durin and the organization
07:46and the organization
08:05i don't know if if it's typical or not typical for a president basketball or operations to not speak
08:13to somebody else summer um in these negotiations he's obviously talking to the agent and his team
08:20um but i i asked the question yesterday and i'm not sure what the answer is should they just call
08:26directly have a conversation should they well i it would does that seem like a desperation mode is that
08:35out of protocol um does this call for something drastic to shake things up as we're you know on the
08:41on the eve of them practicing here um maybe but like i said i think all this is going to
08:47work itself
08:47out in the next 24 to 48 hours because of the the deadline on that qualifying offer okay so uh

08:54thing here he did you know talk about kept saying big three big three big three meaning uh k cunningham
09:01assar thompson and jayland durin and you know somebody brought up you know the east has gotten tougher
09:08some teams have made bigger moves some teams are getting players back and he said look the goal
09:12isn't to win more games than we'd won last year the goal is to be be better in the playoffs
09:17and he felt
09:17like their team has changed the the makeup of the roster to be exactly that better in the postseason
