00:36Tomohiro Ishii
00:38drew Minoru Suzuki
00:40as his first
00:41G1 opponent
00:43we talked about Suzuki getting the win in that battle
00:45then of course it was a different
00:48kind of matchup against
00:49Will Ospreay
00:50you had highlighted Rocky
00:53some perhaps
00:55mistakes of youth from Ospreay
00:57and Ishii in the past
00:59has taken great exception to things Ospreay
01:01has done even though they're in the same Chaos faction
01:03do you think that Ishii was
01:05a little bit off his game
01:07battling Will Ospreay because he's kind of annoyed
01:09at him?
01:11I feel like Ishii's been off his game
01:13the whole tournament so far
01:15the first two matches
01:16I feel
01:19definitely something was going on with Ospreay
01:21he was being extremely
01:23you know he was being a little
01:25disrespectful so to speak
01:27and maybe
01:29maybe that annoyed Ishii
01:31and maybe some of the past things that Ospreay has done
01:35you know
01:35maybe got to him a little bit
01:37but I feel like Ishii's
01:39just a little step off so far this year
01:43you know
01:44and to have Ishii at 0-2 is
01:47you think
01:49okay Ishii finishes at the top of the block
01:51he's a finalist
01:52he's a
01:53but he's not really that guy
01:55he's almost
01:56he's one of the MVPs every year
01:59for the incredible thrilling matches that he has
02:02even though
02:03he may not be on the right end of the result
02:06I think we're going to see that here
02:09I think we're going to see that here
02:11I think we're going to see that here
02:35in Japan at that point
02:36in the last six years
02:38Kota Ibushi
02:39is he
02:40equal to
02:41the Rainmaker at this point
02:44is he in that conversation
02:46Kota Ibushi
02:48I mean
02:50is he
02:51you know
02:52I mean
02:53what are the things that he's
02:55he's
02:55I feel like he's lacking some of the
02:57the big credentials though Kevin
02:59you know
03:00that's fair
03:00you know
03:01I feel like that's
03:02the only thing that really stops him from being
03:05you know
03:06called one of the greats
03:07is he
03:08he still hasn't won
03:09the greatest prize in
03:11professional wrestling
03:13you know
03:13the IWGP Heavyweight Championship
03:15has alluded in
03:16you know
03:17multiple time
03:19IWGP Intercontinental Champion correct
03:21but
03:22still has not
03:23won the big one
03:25last year of course
03:27won the G1
03:28but then it went to
03:29double gold dash
03:31and
03:31wound up 0-2
03:33so obviously
03:34Kota Ibushi
03:35would still support to do
03:38but he has
03:39while he might lack
03:40some of the credentials
03:41he has all the tools
03:43Ibushi
03:44one win
03:44one defeat
03:45defeating Okada
03:47and then dropping
03:48the decision
03:49to Jay White
03:50the other night
03:50he's got a camera shot
03:52of his right knee
03:53that was the target
03:54for Jay White
03:55let's see how sound
03:56that knee is
03:58can't go to
03:59Ibushi
04:00hit the Kamakoye
04:01the winner
04:02the winner
04:02of the G1 Climax
04:05last year
04:06of the G1 Climax
04:08181cm 93kg
04:09Ibushi
04:10Koh-ta
04:17C'est parti !
04:52C'est parti !
04:53Kaorebo, tie-up to begin.
04:59Key to victory, Rocky, in your estimation for Ishii, is find that missing component that he's lacked so far.
05:05Yeah, and, you know, he's yet to hit that brain buster.
05:10So, I mean, if he can find a way to hit that brain buster, that could be the key to
05:16his success here tonight.
05:19Ishii generally finds more success earlier in the tournament, starts to wear down a little bit physically as it goes
05:25on.
05:25And, struggles to get to the 500 mark in his last three matches as he backs Ibushi into the ropes.
05:35Call for a clean break here.
05:39Swing and a miss. Swing and a miss.
05:52What's big match day like for Tomohuro Ishii?
05:54We know Okada with the traditional beef bowl.
05:57Wait a second, Ibushi sent off the ropes.
06:01Going right at it, here we go.
06:03Yep.
06:09No one really scoring yet.
06:16Able to avoid contact and then finally gets put down.
06:20Uh oh.
06:21Yes!
06:22Oh!
06:24Wow.
06:30Ishii takes a lot of punishment, but his defense is underrated.
06:33He's able to use his feet very well.
06:36He's got very quick feet.
06:40Now he's got great footwork.
06:46And now they trade.
06:51Very few can hang with Ibushi here, Rock.
06:54Oh yeah.
06:55But Ibushi's one of those guys who can hang.
07:00Ooh.
07:02He's driving those elbows.
07:03Oh!
07:10Propels him down.
07:11So match day for Tomohuro Ishii.
07:13Is it like any other day for the Stone Pitbull?
07:15Or is there a difference?
07:16No, like any other day, Kevin.
07:19Like any other day.
07:20He's got his daily rituals.
07:23Sleeps.
07:25You know, he loves to sleep on the bus.
07:28Gets his best rest, he says, on the bus.
07:30Very interesting.
07:36He's the only one that doesn't mind these long bus rides.
07:39He actually thrives on them.
07:44Really putting the pressure right on the center of Ibushi's chest.
07:51A heart-stopping series of chops.
08:02I imagine it's got to be intimidating to be where Kota Ibushi is right now.
08:07Oh yeah.
08:11And that one up high.
08:23You're getting beaten.
08:24You're getting trash-talked.
08:30Ooh, those little shots though.
08:31Uh-oh.
08:35And Ishii brings, I think, you know, the very best out of Ibushi.
08:45I would say there's just something about the way that they want to compete with each other in these types
08:52of fights.
08:53They're extremely brutal.
08:55As you can see here, Ishii just chopping away at Ibushi and awakening that beast.
09:05That thing, that switch within Ibushi often gets switched and turned on when he faces Tomohiri Ishii.
09:14Yeah, that dark part that Ibushi reaches down and grabs a hold of, grabs a hold of him really, seems
09:21to overtake him.
09:23Ishii puts him down, but Ibushi, snap Rana, takes him over.
09:26Beautiful.
09:32Almost as if Ishii was trying to drag that out of Kota Ibushi.
09:39It's the type of fight that Ishii likes to have, Kevin.
09:44The more brutal, the more dangerous,
09:49he thrives.
09:52That combo.
09:58See if he gets the moonsault.
09:59Yes, he does.
10:00And with the leg hook, Marty Asandi counts two.
10:03Ishii kicks out.
10:08So, Ibushi facing the very intimidating Tomohiro Ishii.
10:13And has taken some shots here from the Stone Pitbull.
10:17But now looking to show Tomohiro Ishii what type of fighter he is.
10:23Yep.
10:25The way Ibushi was kicking, Ibushi now, Ibushi kicking Ishii now.
10:33And now we're, we're in a fight.
10:36We got a fight, Kevin.
10:38And it looks like Ibushi is going to stick with the legs.
10:42Ibushi, of course, bring down kickboxer.
10:47Ishii throwing hands.
10:55Uh oh, that one stopped him.
10:58Yep.
11:00Talk about the chops in the chest.
11:03Affecting the cardiac.
11:06Brutal.
11:07Yeah, I mean it is a heart stopping shot.
11:13Yeah, Ibushi is so fast.
11:16I always say it's speed equals power.
11:19And Ibushi with those kicks.
11:23Can really catch you.
11:26And certainly not the high flying golden star.
11:30That we know and love.
11:32He has stood toe to toe with Tomohiro Ishii.
11:35Headbutt on the side of the head.
11:37Yeah.
11:37Yeah.
11:38Ibushi catches.
11:39Power slam.
11:40Now we'll see him fly.
11:42Yeah.
11:43Oh, out of the way.
11:48Carefully moving in is Kota Ibushi.
11:51Backs Ishii up.
11:52Springboard attempt and the drop kick is there.
11:55Ishii rolls up on his feet like nothing ever happened.
12:00Wow.
12:02Just shook it off like nothing.
12:05There's the power slam.
12:06There's the power slam.
12:07Yeah.
12:07Nice.
12:08Uh-oh.
12:10Uh-oh.
12:14Neither man willing to give to the other the German suplex Ishii.
12:18Absorbs it, rolls through, back on his feet.
12:20Now he's going to give Ibushi one.
12:24Ibushi can't show any weakness, can't show any pain.
12:27Yeah.
12:29Yeah.
12:31Oh.
12:32Kick again.
12:37Of course, Kota Ibushi battled through an 0-2 start last year.
12:41Suffering an ankle injury at the tournament's onset.
12:43The opener against Kenta.
12:45Dropped his next one to Evil and then won seven in a row.
12:48Including the finale against Jay White.
12:51And captured the G1 Climax 29.
12:56Now look at these two.
13:00Oh wow.
13:02Wow.
13:14Just paintbrushes for the other.
13:16Yeah.
13:19Oh wow.
13:28Just paintbrushes for the other.
13:31Yeah.
13:31Yep.
13:31Geez.
13:32Boushi trying to cover up a little bit.
13:35Ibushi just windmilling.
13:37Boushi getting the better of it.
13:41Boushi, underrated kickboxer.
13:44He's studied a lot of MMA and kickboxing during his years.
13:54A lot more well-rounded than you would think when it comes to that.
13:59So Boushi able to withstand the onslaught from Tomohiro Ishii.
14:05Put the stone pit bull down.
14:08Yeah, when you talk about Ibushi's kickboxing background,
14:12he was a fork in the road, so to speak.
14:15The decision had to be made where he was either going to become a professional kickboxer
14:20and go all the way and compete in K1 or another high-level kickboxing group,
14:24or he was going to start pro-wrestling and decided to do pro-wrestling.
14:27That's where his heart was.
14:29I thought of a Kamigoye.
14:31Now Ishii is throwing chops up into the throat.
14:38Directly into the windpipe, shoving the referee aside.
14:43And going after the throat of Kota Ibushi.
14:48But Rocky, I do not think it had the effect he she wanted.
14:52No.
14:54Oh!
15:01And I think that switch has been truly flipped now.
15:06Yep.
15:06That's how you win any fight in the street, folks.
15:08You punch your opponent right in the throat.
15:11Last ride.
15:12Oh!
15:14Oh!
15:14Got all of them.
15:15Two!
15:16Oh!
15:17And a kick out from Ishii.
15:24So the switch was flipped.
15:26Ibushi punching Ishii right in the throat.
15:29Last ride.
15:30Now Kamigoye!
15:31No!
15:31Here goes Hito.
15:35Headbutt answered.
15:37And an Ishii answered.
15:47The hands of Guri from Ishii puts Ibushi down.
15:52C'est parti !
16:21I gotta say, Kevin, I think this is the best that Ishii's looked so far in this tournament.
16:26He finally feels like he's on.
16:31Here we go, here we go, Ishii, there it is, the Larian.
16:36Turns, Ibushi inside out too, and he's almost on the board, almost.
16:42But now vertical drop brain buster time, Rocky.
16:46He's gotta hit it.
16:49He hasn't been able to hit it yet in this tournament, but this could be the difference maker.
16:55And finally getting two points and getting on the board.
16:59Here we go, vertical drop brain buster, Ibushi with a knee.
17:05Caught it with a knee, and puts Ishii right where he wants to run.
17:09Uh-oh, he's got the wrist.
17:12Another headbutt.
17:15My god.
17:18Ishii has this Kabagoya game plan perfectly.
17:22Two headbutts.
17:23Sliding Larian, keep him right there too.
17:27And, oh, it's Ibushi kicks out.
17:29Oh, I thought that was it, Kevin.
17:31So did I.
17:38Now feeling it.
17:40Now ready for the vertical drop brain buster.
17:42Here we go.
17:44And this is it.
17:46No.
17:46No.
17:47Out the back.
17:49Oh, the back flip kick.
17:56Spins him around.
17:57He's going to try it again.
17:58No, no, no.
17:58It's dead.
17:59Ooh.
18:03What a great counter by Kota Ibushi.
18:12What a matchup this is, Kevin.
18:15This is what the G1 is all about.
18:17This is it.
18:21Everybody knows everybody.
18:23There's no secrets.
18:24But it's how you game plan to take away your opponent's edge,
18:29your opponent's finisher.
18:32And can you overcome?
18:34Now, Ibushi, looking to fly.
18:36No.
18:37No.
18:44Does he go back to the well, the vertical drop brain buster?
18:47Does he go in another direction?
18:50I think he's got to go for it.
18:52He's got to land it.
18:56Oh, man.
18:59And now exposing the knee.
19:03Here we go.
19:04Ishii with the headbutt has denied him so far.
19:15Uh-oh, uh-oh, uh-oh, uh-oh.
19:23Landed on his feet, though.
19:25Oh, my God.
19:29One, two, and a long two count.
19:34A kick at you.
19:39Fifteen down, fifteen to go in the time limit.
19:48But it might be the end, unless he's got another answer.
19:52Does Ishii have an answer?
19:56Oh, he does, Kevin.
20:00Oh.
20:01Oh, my God.
20:06Flying knee there.
20:08Going back to it.
20:09One more time.
20:11Kamagoye.
20:13Kamagoye.
20:13Yay.
20:14Yes, sir.
20:31What a fight, man.
20:39I love an Ishii match, Rocky, because a lot of times it's a struggle.
20:44Like you're struggling for real estate.
20:47And you make incremental gains, and then Ishii's there to knock you back.
20:51He'll create distance to close in with that tremendous footwork of his.
20:57And he had an answer.
20:58He had a game plan for the Kamagoye.
21:01I got a feeling Ibushi opponents down the road will take note of that one.
21:06But it was just too much code.
21:07Ibushi gets the win and moves to four points.
21:19Coming up on Wednesday, Tomohiro Ishii will look for his first points of the G1 against Shinko Takagi.
21:26We'll also see Kota Ibushi against Jeff Cobb.
21:31Looking forward to both.
21:48Ishii still wants the fight to continue?
21:57Ishii still wants the fight to continue?
21:58Ishii still wants the fight to continue?
22:06Separating these two, Rocky, proven to be quite a chore.
22:09Yep.
22:11What a battle between these two.
22:27So, Ibushi gets his hand raised.
23:50Pour vrai
23:51Je suis là où je veux
23:58Donc si il n'était pas déjà
24:00Kota Ibushi je suis sûre
24:01C'est pour Kazuchiko Okada
24:04Coming up in the main event
24:05Needing to stay
24:07Within striking distance
24:09Of Switchblade Jay White
24:10Kota Ibushi takes care of business
24:12Here in Kobe
24:13And as we mentioned on Wednesday
24:15He goes one-on-one with Jeff Cobb
24:55I'd be interested to hear the post-match comments
24:59From Ibushi
25:01They're available at njpwworld.com
25:03The day after each event
25:08What are Ibushi's thoughts
25:10As he goes two-and-one
25:11In his first three
25:14As the action continues
25:16Hear from Kobe
