02:09in his 28th New Japan Cup match, fourth all-time behind Goto and Yano.
02:19When Makabe makes it to the second round, he is a huge favorite.
02:25Six and one in his previous seven.
02:28So when he gets out of the first round, you can pretty much guarantee he's going to advance.
02:35So here we go.
02:36We know we're going to get with these two.
02:38And immediately, all subtlety out the window.
02:43As they begin the smash and grab campaign to seize victory and to make it to the great eight.
02:59Two bulls charging into one another.
03:04Heavy hitters.
03:06And Makabe puts Ishii down.
03:16Makabe certainly will be in his comfort zone as he takes on Ishii.
03:20But I'm sure looming in his mind has to be the fact that he has dropped three in a row
03:24to the stone pit bull.
03:28There'll be a great deal of trash talking as well.
03:34Chopper to the chest.
03:38Makabe answers with a four.
03:40Amishi rips him again.
03:47The harder one man hits, the harder the response.
03:52And they continue to blast away.
03:57Caught.
03:58Power slam.
04:03And already, Ishii able to take control here, showing that he has the strength and intensity to once again defeat
04:16Togimakabe.
04:20Neither man is intimidated by the physicality of the other.
04:24In fact, they welcome it.
04:31Watch Ishii too in big matches a lot of times.
04:34He will throw that chop up into the throat.
04:36He'll go for the windpipe.
04:41And Makabe slung into the turnbuckle.
04:43Now watch the combination here.
04:56This empty arena setting, you're going to really hear the trash talking.
05:05You're going to really hear the trash talking.
05:14Throw some forearms here.
05:18Ishii comes firing out, and there's a power slam from Togimakabe.
05:24Very evenly matched.
05:25Their style's almost a mirror image of the other.
05:31The winner of this match will advance to take on the winner between Yano and Hiromu.
05:40Heavily taped right fist caressing the dome of Tomohiro Ishii.
05:46Rattling a succession of punches off the skull.
05:50Now Northern Light suplex, the bridge on his toes, and a kick out at two.
06:02Makabe a product of the New Japan dojo.
06:04Ishii really had to fight his way into New Japan pro wrestling.
06:11Had to earn his way in from the outside, and then fight from underneath to earn the respect of his
06:18peers.
06:19But his toughness, his talent, his ability just could not be denied.
06:28It's like each man wants to be hit harder as Ishii coming in with the palm strikes.
06:35Close quarters here.
06:36Somebody could get dropped and KO'd in a split second.
06:42Ishii staggers back to the corner.
06:44Makabe down to a knee.
06:51In a match like this, heavyweight, heavy hitters, it may not go long.
06:55Oh, German suplexed the back of Makabe's head, neck, jammed into the turnbuckle pad.
07:02Okay, Makabe is in a world of trouble right now.
07:18Ishii now going to work on the neck.
07:23My goodness.
07:28Dropping those knees out of the back of the neck of Togi Makabe, referee Kenta Sato is checking to see
07:35whether he needs to call for a bell here and call for the stoppage.
07:41At the five minute mark, Makabe could be done.
07:46I said it may not go long.
07:48Okay, take it, okay.
07:54Our referees don't need a lot of reassurance, they just need enough.
08:00They never want to be the one to call for an early bell.
08:03And if the athlete is able to continue.
08:15Kenta Sato realizing the dangerous situation there, he is going to go out and have a long look into the
08:23eyes of Togi Makabe.
08:25You know Makabe is not going to say, I quit, he's not going to say, I give up.
08:36And again, Makabe, struggling heavily.
08:49And the front face lock, this could put him out.
08:56Back suplex, there it is, both legs hook, two, and a kick out, a kick out from Togi Makabe.
09:04Makabe has not seen a lot of singles action over the first, over the past year.
09:08In fact, his first singles match was back on June 16th, his first round victory over Yodosuji in that span
09:16of time.
09:17Ishii 7 and 8 in singles matches.
09:22Locks the clotheslines, oh, but would not be denied, Togi Makabe, wheels and fires.
09:36Togi Makabe has fought up from underneath.
09:39And now let's see if he can put something together here.
09:45Double axe handle, the side of the head.
09:49Ishii staggered underneath the clothesline.
09:52Ishii, oh, what a collision.
09:54And they collide again, neither man goes down.
09:58Each throwing bombs.
10:02Zero again, and finally Ishii goes down.
10:05Oh, Togi Makabe blasts him.
10:13I can hear the Japanese announcers all the way from this side.
10:17Power bomb, stack him up.
10:19Two, and a kick out.
10:26Makabe cannot waste a lot of time here.
10:29He's got to do one more move.
10:30It's got to be thinking about King Kong knee drop.
10:34And Ishii realizing that.
10:45Makabe hitting Ishii as hard as he can.
10:47Another double axe handle.
10:48Ishii still does not come down.
10:50Now, map-map, map-map.
10:54Oh, Makabe stepped into that line and put Ishii down again.
11:04Tremendous power, what torque and force.
11:09You got to hit Ishii so hard to knock him off his feet.
11:14And the same could be said for Togi Makabe.
11:18And now could be setting up.
11:24Let's see if he's able to deliver the Spider German.
11:31You notice Makabe's feet, his boots hooked underneath the second rope.
11:37And now Ishii trying to reposition after stopping Makabe for a moment here.
11:47Makabe still tied in the ropes.
11:50And Ishii, whoa, wait a minute, an overhead throw from the Spider German position.
11:57And Ishii back on his feet like a zombie.
12:00Oh my god.
12:02Wheels and fires.
12:09Ishii got thrown over halfway across the rig and popped right up.
12:16A surge of adrenaline carried Ishii forward, and he clobbered Makabe with a clothesline.
12:26Clubbing blow to the back of the head.
12:28And now it's Ishii who's in control here.
12:31Let's see if he can capitalize, or does Togi Makabe have a counter?
12:37The Unchained Gorilla versus the Stone Pitbull.
12:42And at the ten minute mark, the avalanche.
12:50Superplex, got him.
12:57And Makabe's on his feet.
12:59Makabe gets up, but I believe it, and down just that quick clothesline.
13:03Larry and two, and kick out.
13:08My god, what action here.
13:16Now Ishii looking, sliding Lariat here.
13:18Can he hit it?
13:18No, Makabe's on his feet.
13:21Chops to the neck.
13:24German suplex, bridge.
13:26Two.
13:27Oh, so close.
13:29A near fall from Togi Makabe, who now will go to the top and look to hit the King Kong
13:35knee drop.
13:35If he hits it, Makabe will once again advance.
13:40Oh, came up empty.
13:42Missed with the King Kong knee drop.
13:45Makabe looking to go seven and one in second round New Japan Cup matches.
13:52And nearly got the victory there for sure, but Ishii rolled inward.
13:57And Makabe came up empty on the King Kong knee drop.
14:04And now Tomohiro Ishii.
14:08On his feet, moves, clothesline, Makabe stiffens up, doesn't go down.
14:18Each man displaying so much heart, fighting spirit, headbutt to the heart.
14:24Elbows, Ishii was looking.
14:26Oh, another headbutt, drops Makabe like a stone.
14:34And now what's Ishii thinking about here?
14:39He's got to be thinking vertical drop brain buster.
14:44But one more, here we go.
14:47One more lariat puts Makabe down.
14:56Ishii looking to advance to the grade eight.
15:01Be back-to-back years for Makabe, or for Ishii rather.
15:07Another clubbing blow.
15:13Oh, headbutt, just a short headbutt.
15:16Couldn't see it from this angle, but he just popped him with his head.
15:21And now forearms.
15:28Chopped into the trapezius muscles.
15:39There's the enziguri.
15:44Ishi's on his feet.
15:45Makabe didn't go down.
15:46Makabe down, no, with the lariat one, two, and a kick out.
15:50What is it going to take?
15:52What's it going to take?
15:53It might take this here.
15:54Up, and vertical drop brain buster.
15:58Got him!
16:01Vertical drop brain buster, two, and it's over.
16:05Tomohiro Ishii advances to the grade eight.
16:23Ishii advances to the July 2nd round of eight.
16:27He'll face the winner of Yano versus Hiromu, which will be our next New Japan Cup match.
16:34The workday is done for Tomohiro Ishii.
16:37He's victorious.
16:39He moves on.
16:43And Tomohiro Ishii delivers.
16:45Boy, you knew what you were going to get with Makabe and Ishii.
16:48Every bit of the hard-hitting, old-school matchup we thought we were going to get.
16:57Two men battered each other from the moment the bell rang.
17:01And now make it four wins in a row for Ishii over Makabe, who had won his first six over
17:08the Stone Pitbull.
17:13So, Tomohiro Ishii and Taiji Ishimori so far advance tonight, still to come.
17:20Two more matches in the New Japan Cup.
17:23Toru Yano versus Hiromu Takahashi.
17:27And our main event, Kasuchika Okada versus Yuji Nagata.
17:32That should be a gem in our main event.
