00:00Don't ask me to pick a winner because I stink at this all I know is all I know is
00:10that now Zack Sabre Jr. will have the opportunity to go back-to-back to win back-to-back New
00:18Japan Cups and to do so he's gonna have to walk some familiar ground after all it was in the
00:24second round last year that he submitted Kota Ibushi and went on
00:30to claim the New Japan Cup but of course it's been success for Zack G1 tournament for Ibushi with Tanahashi
00:47awaiting the winner in the quarterfinals an all-important time for last year's New Japan Cup winner
00:58Welcome to Zack Sabre time
01:02I love this time
01:05New Japan Cup 2019
01:09Who is the winner of the winner of the New Japan Cup?
01:14Zack is asking for everybody's picks very publicly
01:17In the second round, Zack Sabre Jr. vs Ibushi Kota, who would you want to win?
01:26The difference between who we think will win and who we want to win
01:31Ibushi Kota's voice is a little bit of a voice
01:35He says, Zack, there's lots more voices for Ibushi
01:38In the second round, Ibushi won the winner of the New Japan Cup and the winner of the British Heavyweight
01:44Champion, he is Submission Master, the Sabre Jr.!
01:51It doesn't matter what the fans picks are, because this man's gonna win it
02:06Last year, it was the referee that stopped the match, but this time Ibushi is gonna have to voluntarily tap
02:13out
02:14Over here!
02:19This is our main event, second round matchup of the New Japan Cup
02:252018 New Japan Cup Tournament winner has already been introduced to the 2015 New Japan Cup Tournament winner is on
02:33his way
02:35Yeah, both of those guys won those cups on their first try
02:42Which says a lot about their own individual abilities
02:48A rematch from last year
02:51Zack captured victory with that unique move he calls orienteering with Napalm Death
02:56The same fate fell Tensuya Naito, Sonata, and Tanahashi
03:06Was in fact, back in the New Japan Cup last year, Kevin, uh, Zack Sabre Jr. countered Kamigoye
03:13Into his hero another year, surely this will be better than the last
03:18The index global march for progress, shall lead us all to happiness
03:25So here we go, all too familiar
03:38So that's the thing, Ibushi has to know that Zack Sabre Jr. has a counter to the Kamigoye
03:44Yeah, he's got a counter to absolutely everything
03:48He did not have a counter in their G1 matchup a year ago, the Kamigoye Rocky FM
03:54That's right, in their last singles match, Ibushi was the winner, and now he's walking into this match with a
04:05little bit more of an edge
04:07But this, this Kota Ibushi just worries me a little bit
04:11And he only said earlier today that now he finally feels just about 100%
04:19After that match with Naito
04:21Right, the first round war with Tetsuya Naito certainly took a lot out of Kota Ibushi
04:27It almost feels like, you know, much like when Katsuo Shibata, uh, signed a new deal with New Japan
04:35Committed to New Japan, uh, back a couple of years ago
04:38That Shibata pushed himself
04:41Beyond the edge, eventually
04:43So hard, right
04:44And, you know, that's what I almost feel now, Ibushi now committed to New Japan full-time
04:48He wants to prove himself so much
04:53That he'll, he'll go above and beyond and, and it could be dangerous
04:57You know, I mean, that Tiger drive at 91 with Naito
05:02It was scary
05:03Yeah
05:03That match was scary
05:04Yeah
05:05Well, again, uh, Kota has had success against Zack Sabre Jr. in a, in a, in a G1 where he
05:12barely left his feet
05:13Their first G1 meeting
05:15Uh, Kota Ibushi, we saw no high flying
05:17We saw straight wrestling and strikes
05:19And in the end, he won over Zack with a, with a wrestling move
05:22Mm-hmm
05:23So he has the tools, he has the weaponry
05:25To defeat Zack Sabre Jr.
05:28But since then, since their first meeting, Zack has added, handed down from Taka
05:33The Zack driver
05:35And, of course, Kota utilizing the Kamigoye, that knockout knee
05:40Caught mid-air!
05:41Good way to take up that knee
05:44Oh, Kota, what a great reversal there
05:47Went for the kick
05:49Just came up short
05:58So a second round rematch from last year here in this second round of the 2019 New Japan Cup
06:05Taka doing a great job
06:07Staying in the corner and staying
06:09Cooling Zack down
06:11Zack has a temper
06:12Every time that temper flares up, it seems to work against him
06:16So, I'm guessing Taka's trying to keep him cool
06:20Keep him prepared, keep him ready
06:22But not, not let that temper flare up
06:27Kick to the hamstring
06:28And, Zack goes down
06:35The kicks and strikes advantage heavily favors Kota Ibushi
06:43Not to discount Zack Sabre as a striker
06:47But, his real strengths vary definitely in that scientific edge
06:53That strength to me, Rock, is almost avoiding that contact and making his opponent wrestle his match
07:01He's the perfect defensive wrestler
07:05And, anything that you throw at him at any time he can counter
07:08Whether it be kick
07:10What it's gonna be important for Kota Ibushi is to mix up the striking
07:14Not just depend on kicks, use strikes
07:17Use, there you go
07:19See, see, see
07:20You need to mix it up
07:22You're gonna get baited every single time
07:24And, now you're gonna heal her
07:31So, Zack will throw a kick, will throw a strike
07:36But, it will simply be
07:38To open the door for that
07:42An aggressive attack
07:43Taken by Zack Sabre Jr.
07:45Who could submit Kota Ibushi
07:48Once again
07:53Oh, man
07:54Both sides, working both sides of the body there
07:57Oh, it's just both ways
08:01Again
08:03Just manipulating the limbs
08:05Last year's G1 match, of course
08:07Began the tournament
08:09Zack Sabre Jr. worked heavily on the legs
08:12Of Kota Ibushi
08:13In an effort to slow down or prevent the Kamigoye
08:17Eventually, Ibushi fought through the pain
08:19And, was able to utilize that knee strike
08:21To
08:21Lead the victory
08:24Oh
08:25That is a nasty heel hook
08:28Oh
08:29Now, just switches to submission to submission
08:33Okay
08:38Beautiful
08:39Oh
08:45Some wrestlers, they will work a body part
08:48Zack Sabre Jr. works like five body parts at once
08:52That's what makes him so dangerous and so deadly
08:54Oh, and there to the neck
08:57He likes to go after the neck
08:59Once you think, okay, cool, I'm gonna counter
09:01I'm gonna protect my neck
09:02He goes after your leg
09:04Then he goes after your arm
09:05Before you know it
09:07You're beat
09:08Well, there's very few pro wrestlers out there
09:10Outside of maybe just, you know, a rookie
09:12That does not have a bad neck
09:15Uh, but Ibushi's history with neck trouble
09:18Has been heavily documented
09:21And Zack is now
09:24Beginning to go to work
09:34Shudders rapidly clicking on the photographers at ringside
09:39As a submission could happen in the blink of an eye
09:41Mm-hmm
09:42They want to be the ones to capture the image
09:45Of
09:46Ibushi tapping out
09:53Ibushi winning
09:55Wait a minute now
10:01Snap Rana
10:03That's the thing
10:04I mean, you back off
10:05Go to Ibushi for a second
10:07And that gives him enough
10:09Space for that
10:10That explosive energy
10:11Mm-hmm
10:12Such an explosive offense from him
10:15But you see that mid kick
10:17Yeah
10:17That still hurt his leg
10:19He's already feeling the effects of Zack Sabre's submissions
10:24Great combo
10:25Mixing it up perfectly
10:27Back to the mid kick
10:29Oh
10:30Uh-oh
10:30Standing room salt
10:31Onto the knees
10:32Into the heel hook
10:36Got that knee bar
10:42Yep, got that knee bar on
10:46It's much coming
10:47I've heard you say so often
10:49That Jay White's the best
10:50Defensive wrestler in the game
10:52Don't you think Zack Sabre Jr.
10:54Would give Jay White a lot of trouble
10:55If he was in that knee bar
10:56He would give him fits
10:57Absolutely
10:57Right
10:58No doubt about it
11:01The intuition of Switchblade Jay White
11:03To take what his opponent gives him
11:05And turn it around into
11:06What he wants to do
11:08That's exactly Zack's game
11:10Oh, right
11:11Both of those guys are so great
11:13At controlling the match
11:15Going at their pace
11:16What they want to do
11:17Manipulating
11:18They're so good at
11:20Knowing their opponent's timing
11:22And being intuitive
11:23And picking up on it
11:24So quickly
11:32Underneath
11:33Oh
11:34Backflip kick
11:36Right to the side of the head
11:40When Ibushi won
11:41The New Japan Cup in 2015
11:43Along the way
11:44He defeated Tetsuya Naito
11:46This year
11:47First round win for Ibushi
11:50Was also against Tetsuya Naito
11:53And
11:54So quick
12:02It's like
12:03Ibushi can't really get off the offense
12:05That he really wants
12:06He gets a little burst here and there
12:08But Zack Sabre's right there
12:09To shut him down
12:19He's got a version of the Indian death lock in there
12:22He did death lock in a European cravat at the same time
12:24Going into continental with his offense
12:26Zack Sabre Jr
12:27Not only that
12:28He had the foot on the knee
12:31And now you see him driving his knuckles into his knees
12:35The groin stretch going on at the same time
12:37Oh
12:40No fancy name for that
12:42Just a slap in the mouth
12:43From Zack Sabre Jr
12:48Yeah, you don't want to do that to Ibushi
12:51It's the last person you want to make angry
12:54You've seen it before
12:56Right, don't let that beautiful smile fool you
12:59The Golden Star has a pronounced mean streak
13:03The light has gone on behind Ibushi's eyes
13:10That's wide angle now
13:11He's not even backing down
13:12No
13:14When we talk about Zack being able to submit someone
13:17In the blink of an eye
13:18Man
13:20But Uno was warning Ibushi and brought him back to the center of the ring
13:25Which gave Zack the perfect opportunity
13:28Yeah Ibushi
13:29Out of the way of the PK
13:32Power slam
13:34Rolls through
13:35Oh no
13:36Now Rookie some consistent offense to Ibushi
13:40Just starting to string some moves together
13:45I think Ibushi's gotta stay angry
13:48Yeah
13:50But it seems like that only seems to work for but a short time
13:56He's gotta stay angry but then you're gonna score a quick knockout as quickly as he can
14:01That's the kind of guy who could do it
14:03Last ride perhaps
14:05That's what got him the win in their first meeting in the G1
14:09Oh, Zack chopping down the legs
14:13Oh
14:14Stomp right into the guts of Zack Sabre Jr.
14:18Bulk better down
14:19Kota Ibushi
14:20Zack Sabre Jr.
14:21Second round match of the New Japan Cup
14:32Kota Ibushi
14:34Trying to secure a path into the quarter finals of the New Japan Cup
14:38Hiroshi Tanahashi awaits
14:40In a rematch of last year's New Japan Cup
14:44With Zack Sabre Jr.
14:47Last year's tournament winner
14:51Zack going back
14:53To the submission attempt
14:56Oh, the strength, the strength, the strength, the strength, the strength, the strength
15:01Half and half suplex
15:03Two
15:05Zack able to
15:07raise up that shoulder at two
15:10That's it
15:10Yeah
15:13Come on
15:15Victory in last year's G1
15:18Climax at the beginning of the tournament
15:21Put Kota Ibushi on a path to eventually making the B-Bloc finals
15:27Zack Sabre Jr.
15:28Was fighting uphill through the rest of the tournament
15:30The two men wound up tied at 12 points
15:32Were it not for the loss to Ibushi, Zack could have won the block
15:36Now Zack looking for the ankle lock, German suplex, Ibushi.
15:49Man, nasty guillotine.
15:53With a body scissor around Ibushi's waist, and Ibushi's going out.
16:04Standing guillotine now.
16:07Zack Driver, yes.
16:09Oh.
16:12A thunderous lariat from Kota Ibushi.
16:17He got all this body weight into it.
16:32Zack has done some work trying to soften up the legs.
16:36Zack has done some work trying to soften up the legs.
16:36Of Kota Ibushi.
16:39Ibushi has fought back.
16:41That's the power edge.
16:45Watch out here.
16:49Last ride, last ride.
16:52And again, again.
16:53This time though.
16:54Oh, optical stretch.
16:56Not a repeat.
16:59The 2017 G1, but.
17:01Wait a minute, wait a minute.
17:03No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
17:04This is a nasty compact that Ibushi has.
17:08Oh, you reversed it.
17:10European clutch, European clutch.
17:12Go!
17:13So close.
17:15Caught the PK.
17:17Back of the net for Ibushi.
17:22Palm strike right through the heart of Zack Sabre Jr.
17:31Zack's attacks have been skillful, masterful.
17:35But Ibushi has countered those attacks.
17:38It's just pure raw power and the speed that only Ibushi has.
17:47Anybody's fight at this point.
17:49He will signal for the Kamigoye.
17:52He wants Kamigoye.
17:52Can he end it?
17:53No, no.
17:55Into the armbar.
17:58Now triangle.
18:02Ibushi staring, locked eyes with Zack.
18:05And he might be fading if Zack has his way.
18:10Ibushi trying to block the extension of the arm from the armbar.
18:15It's like he has three hands and tight enough on the leg.
18:18Look at the straight drop.
18:19Yeah.
18:20Last ride, last ride.
18:22One, two.
18:26Almost avenging last year's New Japan Cup elimination.
18:32That's it.
18:32That's it.
18:33That's it.
18:33Hey, watch out.
18:34Hey, you come on.
18:36Now, exposing the bare bone of the knee for added emphasis of the Kamigoye.
18:43A quarterfinal awaits.
18:46He blocked it.
18:47Kicked it.
18:50Kick to the arm.
18:52Whoa.
18:53Went for that European uppercut, got countered.
18:56And now Zack counters up his own.
19:00Straightjacket suplex.
19:02With the bridge, two.
19:06Maintains control.
19:07Wait a minute, wait a minute.
19:08It's not a minute.
19:09It's not a minute.
19:09Come on, go, you know.
19:12Whoa.
19:13Come on, go.
19:15He's got it.
19:16He's gonna.
19:20Ibushi in the deep trouble.
19:29Oh, it's close.
20:00Sous-titrage Société Radio-Canada
20:27So the dream of Kota Ibushi winning the New Japan Cup is
20:30coming for a second time and facing Switchblade Jay White and MSG have come to an end.
20:38Instead, Zack Sabre Jr. keeps a perfect record.
20:43He has never been beaten in a New Japan Cup match.
20:47And he'll march to the quarterfinals where he'll face Hiroshi Tanahashi in a rematch of last year's finals.
21:05The announcement going up that it will be in Hamamatsu that Zack Sabre Jr. will take on Hiroshi Tanahashi.
21:12And you folks will see it.
21:17Attacker's gonna gloat.
21:21So now he's gonna ask one more time, who's gonna win the New Japan Cup?
21:36Just like last time, he's gonna be the British Heavyweight Champion to win, to do the double.
21:47And he'll win the New Japan Cup for the second year running.
21:50What a heartbreaking loss.
21:54Kota Ibushi just suffered.
21:56I mean, hearts broken all around the world, not only just here in Cork and Hall tonight.
22:03A lot of people had Ibushi in their brackets.
22:08One of the biggest stories coming in to the New Japan Cup was Kota Ibushi and his quest to become
22:16the IWGP Heavyweight Champion.
22:18And that was now.
22:19I saw it.
22:20Zack Sabre Jr. has submitted Kota Ibushi and will advance to the quarterfinals.
22:25Can Zack Sabre Jr. win the New Japan Cup again?
22:35I want to thank you very much for joining us here.
22:38And we'll be back again tomorrow for more second round action in the New Japan Cup.
22:44The final second round matches, that'll be tomorrow with Toru Yano and Colt Cabana.
22:48Minoru Suzuki versus Sanada.
22:53Minoru Suzuki versus Sanada.
22:57Some gloating from Taka, I'm sure from Zack as well.
23:00We'll leave you with that.
23:01Kris will stay for some translation if necessary.
23:04For Chris Charlton and Rock Romero, I'm Kevin Kelly.
23:07We'll see you tomorrow, same time, right here at njpwworld.com, coverage of the New Japan Cup.
23:28Et maintenant, on va à Tanahashi.
24:31goki guigno, goodbye.
24:59...
