00:00Thank you so much for being with us.
00:01Je vous remercie.
00:03Je vous remercie.
00:07Je vous remercie.
00:12Je vous remercie.
00:20Je vous remercie.
00:22Je vous remercie.
00:30Je vous remercie.
00:31Ils ont la même record 3-1,
00:33mais 1 minute et 44 secondes
00:35sepaient leur total match length
00:37pour 4 matches.
00:38Le average wins et losses
00:40also land within 80 seconds
00:43de l'element.
00:46Osprey avec la win over Switchblade.
00:48Jay White moves him to 6.
00:57And we've got to be talking tie breakers
01:00at this point as we are crossing
01:03the halfway point here tonight.
01:04This match could really tell the story
01:08of how this tournament in the A Block
01:10will unfold.
01:25And Rock, for Switchblade Jay White,
01:28this is going to be an interesting one.
01:30Osprey got the victory over White,
01:31so Osprey holds the tie breaker.
01:34But he has the tie breaker,
01:35does Switchblade over both Okada
01:37and Ibushi.
01:40So I would imagine that Switchblade Jay White,
01:44even though it would put Ibushi ahead of him,
01:48I think Switchblade would probably rather
01:50have Ibushi get the win here,
01:55as opposed to having to play chase
01:57to Will Osprey.
02:00Yeah, I would say he's probably hoping,
02:03maybe a draw as well would be another
02:06way to look at it.
02:07Oh, a draw would be heaven
02:10for the Switchblade.
02:19They have split their singles meetings.
02:23Osprey defeating Ibushi two Wrestle Kingdoms ago
02:27for the Never Opened Weight Championship,
02:29knocking out Ibushi with the hidden blade.
02:34Ibushi suffering a concussion.
02:37But Ibushi getting the win in last year's G1 tournament.
02:41Then Ibushi went on to win.
02:43Again, a rough start for last year for Kota Ibushi.
02:47Dropped his first two, suffered an ankle injury
02:49in the tournament opener.
02:52But after dropping his first two went all the way
02:55and beat Switchblade Jay White in the finals
02:57to win the G1 Climax tournament,
03:00is this 2020, is this Kota Ibushi's year
03:05to go back-to-back.
03:31Roky, how in your opinion has Ibushi done when it comes
03:34to game plan and strategy for the matches he's had so far?
03:37in this year's G1?
03:39You know, I think Ibushi is the kind of wrestler
03:43that I don't think he plans too much ahead.
03:47He likes to go in there and kind of feel his opponent out
03:50and take each situation the way it comes.
03:53And it always works pretty well for him.
03:57You know, so I would say that he's just got to continue
03:59to do what he does best and just play it by ear.
04:03All right, so the bell sounds and we're underway.
04:05This is our main event.
04:07Here from Takamatsu, Will Ospreay versus Kota Ibushi.
04:21Rather outspoken comments from Ospreay throughout this tournament.
04:24Kota Ibushi, very confident.
04:33And we will see what happens here.
04:36The rubber match between these two.
04:38Picks the single leg, Ospreay puts Ibushi down.
04:45Ibushi going after the arm of Ospreay who slips out.
04:50Sit out and escape.
04:52Ospreay with a sit out and escape.
04:53Each man trying to find a hold on the other.
05:04Going after the left arm.
05:06And Ospreay takes the wrist lock.
05:10Ibushi very quickly looks to and does reverse the wrist lock.
05:18Ospreay with a slick counter there to drop into the side headlock.
05:22Ospreay added some good muscle during time off with the global pandemic.
05:30Now back into the ropes.
05:32Red shoes calling for a clean break which has not necessarily been automatic for Ospreay in this tournament.
05:38No!
05:54Being even worse than the lack of a clean break is Ospreay, his attitude there.
06:01So now off the ropes.
06:09Ibushi tries to drop down.
06:13And being taunted by his opponent here.
06:25That's how you counter the attitude, Rocky.
06:29Yep.
06:33Alright, so now Ibushi sends Ospreay off the ropes.
06:35Ibushi misses with a pair.
06:38Look to catch.
06:40Ospreay.
06:40Ospreay instead slings Ibushi out to the outside.
06:43Now Ibushi will stand and watch.
06:49And he slips in.
06:50No!
06:50Kamagoi!
06:51Oh!
06:51That could have been a critical error.
06:53That would have been in.
06:53But a blast of a kick puts Ibushi down.
07:04Ibushi perhaps sending a little calling card.
07:07And now out of the way.
07:11Here he comes down the line.
07:15Big kick lands.
07:17Right arm and shoulder and Ibushi now can only stand and watch.
07:23Forearm off the apron.
07:26A lot of force behind that forearm.
07:29And a bad landing for Ibushi.
07:52Ibushi slung underneath the bottom rope.
07:55Here's the cover.
07:57Kick out at one.
08:11And Ibushi absorbs the blue turnbuckle pad.
08:20Ibushi of course will look to win with the...
08:23Tamagoi absorbs the hard chop into the chest.
08:33Six athletes in the A block are all tied at six points.
08:40And now some submission difficulty perhaps for Ibushi to deal with.
08:46Let's see what Ospreay does here.
08:54Controlling the legs.
08:56Controlling the legs.
08:56The arm.
08:57Grapevine.
08:58Behind him!
09:03Yeah almost a tequila sunrise type hold here.
09:09But this is good offense from Ospreay.
09:14And trying to wear down Ibushi.
09:19Who's just such an enigma.
09:28And you gotta think Kevin that Ospreay feels very confident.
09:33Going into this match.
09:35Not only with that huge win over Jay White.
09:38But also.
09:40And the fact that he's defeated Ibushi before.
09:45And when he was a junior heavyweight.
09:48You know.
09:48You know.
09:49Just playing on the.
09:50You know.
09:51In the open weight division.
09:53And getting such a big win.
09:54And not only.
09:56Defeating.
09:57Ibushi.
09:58But also taking Ibushi out for quite a while.
10:00And injuring him.
10:02Yeah that.
10:03That hidden blade is nasty.
10:05And I'm sure Ibushi.
10:06Will be ready for it.
10:08Ospreay no.
10:09Reversed.
10:09Drop kick from Kota Ibushi.
10:12Nice.
10:13Beautiful drop kick.
10:16The golden star who got pushed to the limit by Jeff Cobb.
10:23Hit the Kamigoye to get the victory.
10:27And then later on Ospreay defeated Switchblade Jay White.
10:36Ospreay staggered Ibushi.
10:39Quick combination.
10:44The moonsault lands.
10:46The standing moonsault red shoes.
10:47There for a cover.
10:48And a kick out.
10:49At two.
10:58Kota Ibushi came into this year's G1.
11:00As the defending champion.
11:02Came in.
11:03Just tremendous shape.
11:08Out of the way.
11:10And now Ibushi.
11:12With the escape.
11:17Trying to draw Ospreay out to the middle.
11:20And instead took the bait.
11:24Inverted atomic drop.
11:32Oh!
11:35Went for that low drop kick.
11:37And Ibushi jumped in the air.
11:40Sideswiped.
11:41And landed a beautiful double stomp.
11:45Nasty.
11:47When Ibushi tried the double stomp against Jeff Cobb.
11:51Hit more of a glancing blow.
11:52But that one was absolutely flush.
11:56Right to the midsection.
11:58Dead in the midsection of Ospreay.
12:00And now Ibushi can seize control of this main event match.
12:16Horses him up.
12:17Last ride.
12:17Last ride.
12:18Last ride.
12:19Ooh.
12:20Out the back.
12:23Flipping kick.
12:25Pip pip.
12:26Cheerio.
12:30Sends Ibushi out.
12:32And Ibushi's gotta be careful Kevin.
12:36This is bad territory.
12:42All right.
12:43Here we go.
12:44Here we go.
12:46Oh!
12:47systematicober foot to Ibushi down.
12:52Oh!
12:53Boy!
12:54Boy!
12:55Ah!
12:56Deep breath!
12:57Deep breath!
12:59Oh!
12:59Deep breath!
12:59Dead breath!
12:59Dead breath!
13:13Digump!
13:13ce qu'il y a l'assassin.
13:21Il se roulera Ibushi au bouton de la roue.
13:31Looking pour la reverse, Pilatesandie lands it.
13:34Yes, sir.
13:35Two.
13:36Et un kick-out.
13:46So, high-impact offense.
13:51And at the 10-minute mark.
14:03And Ospreay gonna look to dial up some more high-impact offense here, Rocky.
14:15But Ibushi stops him.
14:27Uh-oh, Rocky.
14:34High risk here.
14:49Oh, just clubs him in the back of the head.
15:00Oh!
15:03Watch Ibushi rock!
15:05Oh, my God!
15:13Holy cow!
15:15Ha-ha-ha!
15:16The look on Ibushi's face!
15:22Shades of their meeting last year!
15:28And now Ibushi angered.
15:31Roars back with a form.
15:33They'll trade.
15:41And Ospreay immediately gets the advantage.
15:56Uh-oh.
15:57This is where I start to worry about Ibushi's opponents.
16:01Yep.
16:02Oh!
16:03Oh!
16:04What a palm strike to the throat!
16:06Jeez!
16:12And this is not the Ibushi that you want to face.
16:16No.
16:18You poke and you prod.
16:20And you taunt.
16:21And then all of a sudden, Ibushi finds himself in that really dark place.
16:26And the violent Ibushi comes out.
16:29Uh-oh.
16:38Flipping tiger kick into the enziguri.
16:42Ibushi didn't go down, though.
16:45Oh!
16:47Toe!
16:48And the bridging German suplex leads to a near fall.
17:12Shades of Shinsuke Nakamura with the ball, yay!
17:15Got him!
17:15Two!
17:17And Ibushi kicks out.
17:20The two men that Ibushi holds in god-like status.
17:25Hiroshi Tanahashi and Shinsuke Nakamura.
17:33And now the move that's interpreted as seeking god.
17:37The Kamagoi.
17:39Kamagoi.
17:40No!
17:40Osprey sidestep!
17:41Oh!
17:41Hook kick!
17:44Uh-oh.
17:46Here we go!
17:46Storebreaker!
17:47Yep!
17:48This could be it, Kevin!
17:50Couldn't hit it!
17:52Ooh!
17:53So butt!
17:56Oh!
17:58Went for that powerbomb.
17:59He went for the run, it holds on.
18:01Their liver's a nasty sitting powerbomb!
18:03Two!
18:05And Ibushi kicks out!
18:17Uh-oh.
18:18Hidden Blade time.
18:22Again, the Hidden Blade knocked Kota Ibushi out at Wrestle Kingdom.
18:33And now he's looking to do it again.
18:41Here we go!
18:42Hidden Blade on the way!
18:45Oh, Ibushi answers!
18:46Beautiful back elbow.
18:48What a counter.
18:49High kick lands.
18:51Osprey is down.
18:54And 15 minutes gone.
18:57Last ride!
18:58Sit down, last ride!
18:59Two!
19:00And a kick out.
19:12Now exposing the knee.
19:15Kamagoi time.
19:16Does Osprey have an answer?
19:19Here we go!
19:20Kamagoi!
19:21Wait a minute!
19:22Oh my god!
19:23What a roll up!
19:24Two!
19:24What a roll up!
19:27Thrust kick!
19:29Uh-oh!
19:30What a counter!
19:31What a counter by Osprey!
19:33Stormbreaker!
19:34Stormbreaker!
19:34No!
19:39Sidesteps Kamagoi!
19:41Oscounter!
19:41No!
19:42It's a knee!
19:43Here we go!
19:46Kamagoi!
19:47Yay!
19:50Kamagoi!
19:51Yay!
19:55Everyone is shaking,
19:57Let's go!
20:00There's a win!
20:05You are on the other side,
20:08because of the odds of winning!
20:11So, it is a win!
20:14It is so fun!
20:15You are on the other side,
20:21So Ibushi hits the Kamigoye
20:24Gets the win and moves to 8
20:26Rocky what was the
20:28What was the key
20:29What was the key to victory for Kota Ibushi
20:35I mean I think
20:36You know the key was just
20:38He had to hit the Kamigoye
20:41I mean that was
20:42Pure key you know
20:43Those knees and strikes
20:46Of Ibushi
20:47Are so solid
20:49They're so good
20:51He's especially great when he's able to
20:54Counter you know
20:55When he's able to counter and move
20:57And use that speed of his
20:59To deliver a flush shot
21:02No stopping
21:03Kota Ibushi
21:06Yeah Ibushi certainly
21:08Benefited from avoiding the
21:09Hidden blade and storm breaker
21:12For Ospreay it won't get any easier
21:14On Wednesday
21:15It's Minoru Suzuki
21:17For Ibushi
21:20Shingo Takagi will look to
21:23Play spoiler
21:25There is great respect between these two athletes
21:45So there is one man now at the top of the block getting his fourth victory
21:50The first to eight
21:51Is the golden star
21:58Boy what a difference a year makes
22:00Ibushi was chasing the whole time last year Rocky
22:03And now
22:04Five batches in
22:07He's on top of the block already at eight points
22:13Yeah
22:14He's looking great this year Kevin
22:17He's just looking phenomenal
22:19Besides
22:19You know the loss to Jay White
22:22He was able to bounce back from that
22:27And really nobody's had quite the G1 like Kota Ibushi in the A block
22:36Continues to impress
22:37So the first time that Switchblade Jay White has been out of the lead
22:43And Kota Ibushi is your block leader there's still a lot to go though five down and four to go
22:49for the defending champ
22:50I'm sorry
22:51I'm sorry
22:52I'm sorry
22:53I'm sorry
22:56I'm sorry
23:09I'm sorry
23:10I'm sorry
23:11I'm sorry
23:14I'm sorry
23:16I'm sorry
23:17I'm sorry
23:17I'm sorry
23:17I'm sorry
23:18I'm sorry
23:18I'm sorry
23:19I'm sorry
23:19I'm sorry
23:20I'm sorry
23:20I'm sorry
23:20I'm sorry
23:20I'm sorry
23:20C'est ce que j'ai joué à 4勝.
24:10Can Kota Ibushi do it?
24:12It's a big ass, Kevin, it really is.
24:18But if anybody who has all the physical tools, the charisma, and the fans behind him in his corner cheering
24:30him on each and every step of the way is that man right there, the Golden Star, the defending G1
24:37champion.
24:38Can he do it again?
24:40We'll find out he's going to have his hands full with Shingo Takagi in the main event coming up on
24:46Wednesday.
24:50So a quick look at what we have after five nights of the A block.
24:54Nakota Ibushi on top at eight.
24:56Nakota Ibushi on top at eight.
24:57Jay White, Ospreay, Taichi, Minoru Suzuki, and now Okada at six.
25:04Shingo, Ishii, and Jeff Cobb at four.
25:07Yujiro yet to get on the board.
25:16Boy, this is, I'm already playing all these different scenarios out in my mind with tiebreakers and matches down the
25:24stretch.
25:24If Shingo wins, think about this, if Shingo wins, that'll move him to six.
25:30It'll keep within two points of Ibushi and now Shingo would be a match, one match out from, you know,
25:37tonight's leader.
25:38That's how tight everything is.
25:40Yeah, he could play major spoiler for everybody else too, you know.
25:44No doubt.
25:45Absolutely.
25:46It could not only come down to head-to-head, but it also could come down to common opponents.
25:53How deep will the tiebreakers go this year?
25:55We'll find out.
25:57But here on this night in Takamatsu, your winner, Kota Ibushi.
26:10Boy, it's, what a special time it is, Rocky, for you and me to be able to call the G1.
26:16There really is nothing else like it.
26:19Nothing like this tournament in all of professional sports.
26:24It really is my favorite time of the year.
26:26I can just sit back and I can just be a fan again and fall in love all over with
26:32what I love about New Japan Pro Wrestling, especially, and all these great athletes.
26:37I mean, we're lucky, Kevin.
26:39We're lucky.
26:40Yeah, absolutely.
26:41Living the dream.
26:42We're living the dream every single day.
26:44So the B Block continues tomorrow night.
26:47We got four nights in a row of New Japan action.
26:51And this week will be the crucible for the athletes in the G1.
26:55This is where the real test comes in.
26:58The main event tomorrow night is going to be Tanahashi versus Kenta.
27:04A critically important match for both men, plus a personal rivalry, much different than last year's meeting, where Kenta at
27:13the time had...
27:15Oh, wait, wait, wait.
27:16There's Ibushi.
27:17We'll get more comments from tonight's winner.
27:19Here's Ibushi playing.
27:23How are you?
27:2616 years old.
27:344勝目.
29:27Will he stand prosperity?
29:30And I can't wait to see Sonata one-on-one versus Zack Sabre Jr.
29:34Plus Goto with his injured shoulder against Toriyano.
29:38The B-block action tomorrow night.
29:42So, Rocky, just a few moments left.
29:45And the obvious takeaway tonight, I can't get out of my mind that Jeff Cobb victory over Switchblade Jay White
29:53and how important a victory that could be for Jeff Cobb.
29:57Not only a major, major victory for Jeff Cobb as an athlete and in New Japan for wrestling, but it
30:06also could be the thing that maybe helps stop Jay White from reaching the top of this tournament.
30:14And, you know, it remains to be seen.
30:18We don't know what's going to happen, obviously, but what a major win.
30:22In fantastic fashion, Jeff Cobb is really having a great year so far in this G1.
30:27Yeah, I think the best is yet to come from Jeff Cobb, who has now beaten a former IWGP heavyweight
30:34champion.
30:35And, obviously, Jeff Cobb could be fixed to play certainly a solid role in this tournament down the stretch.
30:46Really, mathematically, only one of the ten athletes is out, and that's Yujiro.
30:51But don't count him out to play spoiler down the road as well.
30:54And in terms of Tanahashi and Kenta in tomorrow's main event, where will each athlete be, do you think,
31:02in terms of physical ability with four matches done and five to go for them?
31:11How do you think both are feeling?
31:14Probably, I mean, like we saw tonight, I think all the athletes are starting to feel a little more worn
31:20down.
31:21And, yeah, I don't know.
31:23It's hard to say with Tanahashi.
31:25He's had a great tournament so far.
31:26He's looked really, really good.
31:27He looked really solid.
31:29Let's see.
31:30Your favorite to get to eight tomorrow has to be Toriano, where he faces an injured Hiroki Goto.
31:36We'll find out what happens.
31:37Will Rocky's block winner, Toriano, hold true, or will there be more surprises?
31:43We've been up and down in this G1.
31:45We can't wait to see how it's going to all unfold.
31:47We thank you for joining us for English Commentary.
31:49For Rocky Romero, I'm Kevin Kelly, and we'll see you tomorrow with the B-Block.
31:54Thanks for joining us.
31:55NJPW World, the king of sports streaming.
