00:30I know, right? It does.
00:32But it was just one summer ago that Will Ospreay and Shingo Takagi met in one of the best wrestling
00:40matches you're ever going to find.
00:42The finals of the best of the Super Junior Tournament at Ryugoku.
00:46And while Ospreay got the win, it was the catalyst for both to begin to make their next leap in
00:52their careers.
00:53Immediately afterwards, Shingo said he wants to fight everybody, including heavyweights.
00:58And was immediately signed to wrestle our pal Kojima at Dominion.
01:05His first true heavyweight win was for Shingo Takagi that night and then was in the G1.
01:10Will Ospreay as well?
01:12But I think every fan has been anticipating this match since the blocks were announced.
01:17When will we see Ospreay vs. Shingo?
01:19Well, right here tonight and right now.
01:32Both Ospreay and Shingo finish their first G1.
01:35Identical 4-5 records.
01:388 points.
01:40Ospreay's signature win over Tanahashi.
01:43Shingo's over Ishii and then Goto on the final night.
01:50The Dragon's final game, Ospreay's signature win over Tanahashi.
02:07Shingo's over Ishii and then Goto on the final night.
02:26Ospreay and Shingo were set to face each other in March.
02:30First round matchup of this year's New Japan Cup.
02:34Before everything changed, everything was shut down.
02:38The Rev Pro British Heavyweight Champion off to a 2-0 start here this year.
02:49Yeah, Ospreay off to a strong start, Kevin.
02:57And I don't know, between these two guys here tonight, I don't know who has the edge.
03:02I mean, Ospreay definitely has the edge with four points walking into this.
03:08But, I mean, really, Shingo's got to be desperate to get on the board and he's going to bring it
03:15to Ospreay.
03:17Yeah, a starving Shingo at 0-2 so far.
03:20Hungering for his first points.
03:22I wouldn't want to beat Will Ospreay tonight.
03:40He's been very confident in his first two wins over Yujiro Takahashi and Tomohiro Ishii.
03:47Shingo yet to get on the board.
03:51Dropped his tournament opener to Switchblade Jay White.
03:54And then came up short against Jeff Cobb in his second match.
03:58Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know, I know, I know.
04:00Come on up, up, up, up, up, up, up, up.
04:02Good boy, thank you.
04:05Thank you.
04:07Retuzuno the official here.
04:09This is our semifinal tonight.
04:10Just our main event yet to go.
04:12Hold on to your hats, folks.
04:1330 minutes are on the clock.
04:15Bell sounds and we're underway.
04:25I had this one almost earmarked for a draw, Rocky,
04:29because they went 33-36 in the Super Junior Final.
04:33That would be, I feel like that's very possible with these two.
04:41Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey.
04:47Curious to see with the added muscle, you know,
04:52how Ospreay might change things up against this match against Shingo
04:56than the last time that they met.
04:58Yes!
05:01Ospreay will try to play the power game.
05:06All right, so now Shingo breaking down.
05:10Ospreay trying to at least.
05:12Ospreay takes a side headlock.
05:16Every athlete different.
05:18You think with two matches under his belt,
05:19Ospreay's ring rust is gone?
05:24I mean, it doesn't look like he's lost his step.
05:27Me?
05:29Yeah.
05:29Okay.
05:31Okay, so now Shingo inviting Ospreay to try.
05:35Yeah!
05:36Nothing to do in there.
05:39Come on, man.
05:40You go, then, Shingo.
05:41You go.
05:42You go.
05:43No, you go, mate.
05:44Come on.
05:44You go.
05:45You're the hometown boy.
05:46Come on, let's go.
05:48Come on.
05:49Come on.
05:55Pass-through leapfrog here from Ospreay.
05:58Shingo quickens the pace.
05:59Sliding Larry and Ospreay out of the way.
06:01Swing and a miss with the kick.
06:02Waistlock from Shingo.
06:03Now Ospreay.
06:05Reversal.
06:05Wait a second.
06:09Ospreay lands on his feet.
06:10Oh, it's cuter.
06:11Early and no.
06:14Went for the pumping bomber.
06:16Wow, wow, wow, wow.
06:18Powerball no.
06:19Lake sweep from Ospreay.
06:20Kick out from Shingo.
06:22Swing, swing, swing, swing, swing, swing, swing, swing.
06:25Oh, that's right, that's right, that's right, that's right, that's right.
06:29What an exchange, Kevin.
06:32Yes, indeed.
06:33Both men trying to out-quick and connect.
06:39Shingo's life had to flash before his eyes when we went for the Hurricanrana,
06:43and Ospreay nearly power-bonded him.
06:44Shingo's life had to flash before his eyes when we went for the Hurricanrana.
06:47Thank you.
06:47Thank you.
06:51Thank you.
06:52Thank you.
06:53Thank you.
06:54Thank you.
06:54Come on.
06:56Good match, man.
06:57Good match, man.
06:57Good match so far.
06:58Come on.
06:59Why?
07:00I wish I can.
07:00This is you, huh?
07:01Yeah, friendly match.
07:02No serious.
07:03Friendly.
07:04Come on.
07:05Come on.
07:07Come on.
07:07Come on.
07:12Shingo not too interested in the sportsmanlike overture from Ospreay,
07:16and makes Ospreay pay.
07:20Whoa.
07:21Beautiful runner.
07:23So Shingo's the one who's down on the floor, and now Ospreay
07:29hits his signature taunt.
07:33Shingo very popular in this region of Japan, Rocky.
07:37Yep.
07:37Spent a lot of time down here, when he was working with Dragon Gate,
07:43wrestling for them, and many, many, I believe many, many main events in this very building.
07:51What?
07:51Okay, okay.
07:56Yeah, notes from Chris Sampson, 15 times he's wrestled as Shingo in this Kobe World Hall.
08:03Okay, okay.
08:04And three and five all-time in singles matches, eight and seven overall.
08:11But certainly, different level of competition in New Japan Pro Wrestling.
08:16Ospreay puts Shingo down.
08:18Yeah.
08:22Yeah.
08:22Yeah?
08:22Yeah.
08:23Yeah.
08:24I want a style kicks from Ospreay.
08:28As Shingo hammers down on the knee, the elbow, and a drop kick as Osprey extends the legs, catches Shingo
08:36in the shoulder.
08:38Uh-oh, Osprey looking to fly.
08:42Lens on his feet, he may have tweaked his knee a little bit as Shingo now grabs a hold of
08:47Osprey.
08:49Shingo instead hits the fence on the outside.
08:58Uh-oh, gets caught, Death Valley driver!
09:11And at the five-minute mark, a bad moment for Will Osprey as Shingo Takagi delivers the Death Valley driver.
09:21Yeah, it's no secret that Osprey had some neck issues over the last couple years.
09:28And he's done a lot in the gym to try to strengthen the muscles around the neck.
09:34But, uh, holy cow, but you get dropped like that on your head outside on those mats, that's gonna change
09:43your whole world.
09:45And now, Osprey dropped throat first, hot shot there, and a DDT follow-up.
09:50So Shingo went after the neck of Osprey when they battled in the finals of Best of Super Junior,
09:55and doing the same here in a kick-out.
09:57And Rocky, no amount of added muscle or protection is going to be able to protect the neck in a
10:02situation like that.
10:03To your point, you're exactly right.
10:09This is a good strategy by Shingo.
10:12Really, I feel like that's just one of Osprey's flaws, you know?
10:17You're not really much you can do.
10:19I mean, you add the muscle in, we hope that it helps.
10:21But, I mean, Shingo's offense right now is just, I don't know, it's just, it's gonna be too much, I
10:29feel like.
10:30And the cravat has put Osprey down onto the mat.
10:34Now Shingo has completely rolled him over onto his shoulders.
10:38I like, look, Shingo up on the toes.
10:45Yeah, everything that Shingo does is precise.
10:51Mm-hmm.
10:51Measured.
10:52No wasted motions.
10:58Drops the knee.
10:59When Shingo came to New Japan Pro Wrestling, I mean, there was a lot of talk.
11:07in the locker room, amongst all of the boys, I'm sure, in every single group.
11:13Because everybody who had seen Shingo before and was like, oh, wow, this guy's in New Japan, this guy's, uh
11:20-oh, uh-oh, uh-oh.
11:20Everybody was watching their backs, everybody was saying, oh, okay, this guy is on another level.
11:26This is the guy you, we want, you know, you gotta watch, you know?
11:29Yeah, I was told by a couple different wrestlers that the one wrestler that everybody will consistently watch
11:36in their locker room, in their faction's locker room, on the monitor, is a Shingo match.
11:41Oh, yeah.
11:46Ospreay trying to hit with multiples, and a double blast of a chop from Shingo puts Ospreay back on his
11:52heels.
11:52And now the dragon, Shingo Takagi sends Ospreay off the ropes with a blast of a kick from Ospreay connects.
11:57Shingo has put Shingo down.
12:11Shingo has stumbled as of late after a good start to the year, just the one defeat in the New
12:17Japan Cup, but it,
12:19several successful title defenses of the Denver Openweight Championship, but after the loss to Suzuki,
12:24and then dropping his first two, he's over his last three in singles matches.
12:28Ospreay looks to make it 0 at four.
12:30Shooting star press, and the cover, and a kick out at two.
12:34Yeah, he's definitely in a little bit of a rut right now, Kevin.
12:38But I feel like he needs to fight his way out of it, stay focused.
13:09Yeah, Shingo needs some big offense, Kevin.
13:15That's all right, he's going to work.
13:24Little Ken Shingo Takagi here, no Shigami.
13:27Big offense, he's got it.
13:32Ospreay gets out of the way.
13:37Dragon Screw Legwhip puts Ospreay down.
13:42Now this, I like that, Kevin.
13:45He was able to, oh, sliding lariat there.
13:50Two.
13:52Your point, Rocky.
13:53Yeah, I like that, you know, he was able to change the direction.
13:58Instead of going straight for the neck, he went to the leg, took Ospreay off of his game there for
14:04a second,
14:05expecting that he was going to go for the head or neck, and I like it.
14:09I just, I think it's good to mix up your offense every once in a while, throw your opponent off.
14:16And at the 10-minute mark now, made in Japan, coming up here from Shingo, but Ospreay into the full
14:24Nelson.
14:25Oh, that power.
14:27Oh, kick, go.
14:33Turns it into a cutter instead.
14:35Uh-oh.
14:43Will Ospreay avoiding disaster there, Shingo.
14:50Denied to No Shigami.
14:55And here comes Ospreay.
15:02Springboard Pip-Pip Cheerio.
15:04Yes, sir.
15:09And there's no safe space with Will Ospreay in the match.
15:14Shingo's rolled out to the floor, and Rocky looks like Ospreay's going to join him.
15:20Yep.
15:21Here we go.
15:23Oh, Ospreay lands it.
15:27Sasuke's special to the outside.
15:30Puts Shingo Takagi down.
15:37Ospreay trying to get some feeling in his neck.
15:45But Ospreay has completely taken control of this match.
15:55And sometimes, Kevin, when you push too hard, you're desperate to get that win.
16:01You're desperate to win.
16:02Sometimes you push too hard, and you leave yourself open, Kevin.
16:05And Ospreay's taking advantage of that now.
16:09And extending the boot.
16:12Here we go.
16:13Up on the shoulder.
16:15Stormbreaker.
16:16Stormbreaker.
16:20Stormbreaker.
16:21Now finds himself trapped.
16:25Hung up in the top rope.
16:28Rocky, it's a 20-foot ring.
16:30That's the biggest ring in the world right there.
16:34Holy cow.
16:36And he soars all the way across.
16:40Holy cow.
16:43Coast to coast.
16:46First bloody Sunday.
16:48Hooks the leg.
16:50And Shingo kicks out.
16:52So it went coast to coast.
16:55And the high risk paid off.
16:58Now he's going to continue it, Kevin.
17:00And wisely.
17:05Wow.
17:08Shooting star press.
17:10And he kicks out.
17:18So the added size of Will Ospreay not stopping his aerial ability, no doubt.
17:24But the assassin looking to put.
17:26Shingo away.
17:27Oskutter.
17:29No.
17:30Already the waiting arms of Shingo and the Noshigami.
17:37Noshigami, but he can't follow up, Kevin.
17:39But he might have bought himself some time.
17:49Ospreay looking to stay perfect.
17:51Shingo looking to get on the board.
18:01Noshigami took a lot out.
18:03Double knees right into the midsection.
18:23Shingo closing in on Will Ospreay.
18:30Noshigami.
18:31Noshigami.
18:32Noshigami.
18:33Noshigami.
18:39Sends him off the ropes.
18:40Watch out.
18:41Waiting.
18:42Oh, waits and catches him beautifully.
18:50Pumping bomber.
18:51Pumping bomber.
18:52No.
18:53Ospreay turns it inside out.
18:55It's an outpour bomb.
18:58Is this enough, too?
19:00Man, Shingo is tough.
19:04Ospreay's incredible.
19:05Shingo's tough.
19:06I can't see a winner here.
19:08We're getting close to the 20-minute mark.
19:13Oh, this will take care of it.
19:15The Oskutter.
19:16Oskutter.
19:16Got him.
19:17Uh-oh.
19:19Shingo's in trouble here.
19:21Two.
19:22Three.
19:22Kicks out.
19:27Oh, excuse me.
19:2915.
19:29That was 10 before.
19:31I started getting nervous because I thought I heard the 10-minute call.
19:35I thought I heard it at 15.
19:36And I'm like, wait a minute.
19:37That means it's five more minutes have gone.
19:40Okay, we're only halfway done.
19:47But the back and forth between these two, Kevin, you never know.
19:50And like you said, last time they met, they went over 30 minutes.
19:54That's right.
19:58It just takes so much to wear each man down and both have so many weapons that they can use
20:05that they're able to pull out.
20:09Oh, short clothesline there.
20:13Ospreay comes from underneath.
20:14Catches Shingo on the jawline with four arms.
20:17Goes for rolling for him.
20:18Shingo stops him.
20:19Hook kick, though.
20:20The hook kick.
20:25Here we go.
20:26This will end it.
20:26No, Shigami.
20:27No.
20:27Shingo off.
20:28Uh-oh.
20:29Look at this.
20:30Uh-oh.
20:31How about Made in Japan?
20:33Yes, sir.
20:35Made in Japan is a win for Shingo.
20:37Oh, no.
20:46Rocky, Shingo seems to know Ospreay what he's going to do before he does it as we take another look
20:52at the Made in Japan.
20:53Wow.
20:56Now, Shingo taking control again.
21:03It's just been back and forth between these two.
21:06Here we go.
21:07Pumping fodder.
21:10Pumping fodder.
21:12Say goodnight.
21:12Will Ospreay Shingo.
21:14Oh!
21:15Ospreay kicks out.
21:18My goodness.
21:35Fans limited to clapping, but there isn't a silent pair of hands in the building as Shingo looks to put
21:41Ospreay away.
21:43Blast to the dragon.
21:47He hits it.
21:48It's all over, Kevin.
21:51Uh-oh, uh-oh.
21:56Oh, the hook kick stops Shingo in his tracks.
21:59Poison Rana.
22:00Wow.
22:05Shingo's on his feet somehow.
22:10What a collision.
22:11What a collision.
22:15Ospreay looking for that rolling forearm, and instead it was Shingo with the headbutt.
22:19What a collision.
22:23Ospreay!
22:23These two match up so well, Kevin.
22:48The Ospreay and Shingo now are back on their feet.
23:11Heavy shots from Ospreay.
23:13Are you tired?
23:14Aadamada!
23:20Shingo answering with some heavy shots of his own.
23:23Ospreay!
23:25Oh, high kick lands.
23:27High kick lands, Kevin.
23:29Shingo chases him down.
23:31Ospreay, one-man Spanish fly.
23:33One-man Spanish fly.
23:34No way to second.
23:35Chris makes it stand through.
23:38Ospreay's going to trap him here, too.
23:40Oh, kick out.
23:42Wow.
23:44Continues back and forth between these two.
23:49Incredible.
23:50The lariat, though, the answer from Ospreay.
24:00Each continuing to absorb their opponent's best, kick out, deny victory, and continue the fight.
24:12And now the 20-minute call, but Ospreay's looking for the hidden blade.
24:18Here we go.
24:19Hidden blade.
24:20No!
24:26Oh, wow.
24:33Just dropped him like a stone.
24:36Why aren't you going for the cover, Will?
24:41What is he thinking, Kevin?
24:43Man, he might have had victory in his grasp, but instead, going to go spectacular top rope boss cutter.
24:50No!
24:51Oh, wow.
25:05Oh, man.
25:09Up on the shoulders, up on the shoulders.
25:12What in the world is Shingo doing?
25:16What is he thinking?
25:18What is he thinking?
25:19What is he thinking?
25:22This is the last one!
25:22Traps it!
25:25Hits it!
25:29Oh, God!
25:31And now pulls Ospreay over!
25:35And a kick out at one.
25:37Are you kidding me?
