00:17When a wicked person turns from the wickedness he has committed, and does what is just and right, he will
00:26preserve his life.
00:30For I am aware of my rebellious acts, I am forever conscious of my sin.
00:39Hide your face from my sins, wipe away all my guilt.
00:47The sacrifices God desires are a humble spirit, O God, a humble and repentant heart you will not reject.
01:01Dearly beloved brothers and sisters, the scripture moves us in sundry places to acknowledge and confess our many sins and
01:10wickedness.
01:12We should not justify nor hide them before the face of Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, but confess them with
01:20a humble, lowly, penitent and obedient heart.
01:24To the end that we may obtain forgiveness of the same, by his infinite goodness and mercy.
01:35Although we ought always to humbly acknowledge our sins before God, we should do this particularly when we assemble and
01:43meet together,
01:44to give thanks for the great benefits we have received at his hands.
01:48To give him most worthy praise, to hear his most holy word, and to ask those things which are truly
01:57necessary as well for the body as the soul.
02:02Therefore I pray and ask you, who are present here today, to accompany me with a pure heart and humble
02:09voice to the throne of the heavenly grace, as we say together.
02:16Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep.
02:23We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts.
02:29We have offended against your holy laws.
02:32We have failed to do those things which we ought to have done, and we have done things which we
02:39ought not to have done.
02:44But you, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable sinners.
02:49Spare those, O God, who confess their faults.
02:53Restore those who are truly penitent, according to your promises declared to mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord.
03:03Grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to
03:12the glory of your holy name. Amen.
03:18Grant, we beseech you, merciful Lord, to your faithful people, pardon and peace, that they may be cleansed from all
03:26their sins, and serve you with a quiet mind.
03:30Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
03:38Our Father, who is in heaven, hallowed be your name.
03:43Your kingdom come, your will be done, in earth as it is in heaven.
03:50Give us this day our daily bread.
03:53Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
03:59Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
04:05For yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
04:15O Lord, open our lips, and our mouths shall sing out your praise.
04:23O God, make speed to save us.
04:27O Lord, make haste to help us.
04:33Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
04:39As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
04:45Amen.
04:48Praise the Lord.
04:50The Lord's name be praised.
04:56Psalm 12
04:59Deliver, Lord, for the godly have disappeared.
05:04People of integrity have vanished.
05:07People lie to one another.
05:09They flatter and deceive.
05:12May the Lord cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that boasts.
05:18They say, we speak persuasively.
05:21We know how to flatter and boast.
05:23Who is our master?
05:26Because of the violence done to the oppressed,
05:29because of the painful cries of the needy,
05:32I will spring into action, says the Lord.
05:34I will provide the safety they so desperately desire.
05:39The Lord's words are absolutely reliable.
05:44They are as untainted as silver purified in a furnace on the ground,
05:49where it is thoroughly refined.
05:53You, Lord, will protect them.
05:55You will continually shelter each one from these evil people.
06:00For the wicked seem to be everywhere when people promote evil.
06:06Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
06:10as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
06:14world without end.
06:16Amen.
06:19Psalm 13
06:22How long, Lord, will you continue to ignore me?
06:26How long will you pay no attention to me?
06:30How long must I worry and suffer in broad daylight?
06:35How long will my enemy gloat over me?
06:39Look at me, answer me, O Lord my God,
06:42revive me, or else I will die.
06:46Then my enemy will say,
06:48I have defeated him.
06:50Then my foes will rejoice because I am shaken.
06:56But I trust in your faithfulness.
06:59May I rejoice because of your deliverance.
07:02I will sing praises to the Lord when he vindicates me.
07:07Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
07:12as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
07:16world without end.
07:17Amen.
07:21Psalm 14
07:24Fools say to themselves,
07:26There is no God.
07:28They sin and commit evil deeds.
07:31None of them does what is right.
07:34The Lord looks down from heaven at the human race
07:37to see if there is anyone who is wise and seeks God.
07:42Everyone rejects God.
07:44They are all morally corrupt.
07:47None of them does what is right.
07:49Not even one.
07:52All those who behave wickedly do not understand.
07:56Those who devour my people as if they were eating bread
07:59and do not call out to the Lord.
08:03They are absolutely terrified,
08:05for God defends the godly.
08:08You want to humiliate the oppressed,
08:11even though the Lord is their shelter.
08:15I wish the deliverance of Israel would come from Zion.
08:19When the Lord restores the well-being of his people,
08:22may Jacob rejoice.
08:24May Israel be happy.
08:27Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
08:31As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be.
08:35World without end.
08:37Amen.
08:42The prophet Amos chapters 5 and 6
08:48Woe to you who desire the day of Yahweh!
08:51Why do you long for the day of Yahweh?
08:54It is darkness and not light.
08:58As if a man fled from a lion and a bear met him.
09:02Or he went into the house and lent his hand on the wall,
09:05and a snake bit him.
09:07Won't the day of Yahweh be darkness and not light?
09:11Even very dark, with no brightness at all.
09:16I hate, I despise your feasts.
09:19I cannot stand your solemn assemblies.
09:24Yes, there you offer me your burnt offerings and meal offerings,
09:27I will not accept them.
09:30Neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat animals.
09:35Take away from me the noise of your songs.
09:38I will not listen to the music of your harps.
09:42But let justice roll on like rivers,
09:45and righteousness like a mighty stream.
09:49Did you bring to me sacrifices and offerings in the wilderness forty years,
09:54house of Israel?
09:56You also carried the tent of your king,
09:58and the shrine of your images,
10:01the star of your God which you made for yourselves.
10:05Therefore I will cause you to go into captivity beyond Damascus,
10:09says Yahweh,
10:10whose name is the God of armies.
10:14Woe to those who are at ease in Zion,
10:17and to those who are secure on the mountain of Samaria,
10:21the notable men of the chief of the nations,
10:24to whom the house of Israel come.
10:28Go to Kalneh and see.
10:30Go from there to Hamath the Great,
10:34to Gath of the Philistines.
10:36Are they better than these kingdoms?
10:38Or is their border greater than your border?
10:42Those who put far away the evil day,
10:45and cause the seat of violence to come near.
10:48Who lie on beds of ivory,
10:51stretching themselves out on their couches,
10:53eating lambs from the flock,
10:56and calves from the middle of the stall.
10:58Who strum on the strings of a harp,
11:01inventing for themselves instruments of music like David.
11:05Who drink wine in bowls,
11:08and anoint themselves with the best oil.
11:11They are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.
11:16Therefore they will now go captive with the first who go captive,
11:20and the feasting and the lounging will end.
11:24The Lord Yahweh has sworn by himself, says Yahweh,
11:28the Lord of armies.
11:30I abhor the pride of Jacob.
11:32I detest his fortresses.
11:34Therefore I will deliver up the city and all that is in it.
11:38It will happen, if there remain ten men in one house,
11:43that they shall die.
11:46This is the word of the Lord.
11:49Thanks be to God.
12:02Mary said,
12:03My soul exalts the Lord,
12:06and my spirit has begun to rejoice in God my Saviour,
12:10because he has looked upon the humble state of his servant.
12:16For from now on all generations will call me blessed,
12:20because he who is mighty has done great things for me,
12:24and holy is his name.
12:27From generation to generation he is merciful to those who fear him.
12:33He has demonstrated power with his arm.
12:37He has scattered those whose pride wells up from the sheer arrogance of their hearts.
12:43He has brought down the mighty from their thrones,
12:46and has lifted up those of lowly position.
12:50He has filled the hungry with good things,
12:53and has sent the rich away empty.
12:56He has helped his servant Israel,
12:59remembering his mercy as he promised to our ancestors,
13:04to Abraham, and to his descendants for ever.
13:09Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
13:14as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
13:18world without end.
13:20Amen.
13:27The Gospel according to Saint Luke, chapter 5.
13:32Jesus himself frequently withdrew to the wilderness to pray.
13:38Now, on one of those days, while he was teaching,
13:41there were Pharisees and teachers of the law sitting nearby,
13:45who would come from every village of Galilee and Judea,
13:49and from Jerusalem.
13:51And the power of the Lord was with him to heal.
13:55Just then, some men showed up,
13:58carrying a paralysed man on the stretcher.
14:01They were trying to bring him in and place him before Jesus,
14:04but they found no way to carry him in,
14:07because of the crow.
14:09And so they went up on the roof,
14:12and let him down on the stretcher through the roof tiles,
14:15right in front of Jesus.
14:19When Jesus saw their faith, he said,
14:21Friend, your sins are forgiven.
14:25The experts in the law, the Pharisees,
14:28began to think to themselves,
14:30Who is this man, who is uttering such blasphemies?
14:34Who can forgive sins but God alone?
14:40When Jesus perceived their hostile thoughts,
14:43he said to them,
14:45Why are you raising objections within yourselves?
14:48Which is easier,
14:50to say your sins are forgiven,
14:53or to say,
14:54Stand up and walk.
14:57But so that you may know
14:59that the Son of Man has authority on earth
15:01to forgive sins.
15:03He turned to the paralysed man and said,
15:07I tell you, stand up,
15:10take your stretcher and go home.
15:14Immediately the man stood up before them,
15:16picked up his stretcher that he had been lying on,
15:19and went home, glorifying God.
15:25Then astonishment seized them all,
15:27and they gave glory to God.
15:29They were filled with awe, saying,
15:31We have seen incredible things today.
15:36Then they said to him,
15:38John's disciples frequently fast and pray,
15:41and so the disciples of the Pharisees,
15:44but yours continue to eat and drink.
15:48Jesus said to them,
15:50You cannot make the wedding guests fast
15:52while the bridegroom is with them,
15:55can you?
15:56Those days will come,
15:58and when the bridegroom is taken from them,
16:01at that time,
16:03they will fast.
16:06He also told them a parable.
16:09No one tears a patch from a new garment
16:11and sews it onto an old one.
16:14If he does,
16:15he will tear the new,
16:16and the piece from the new
16:17will not match the old.
16:20No one pours new wineskin
16:22into old wineskins.
16:25If he does,
16:26the new wine will burst the skins
16:28and be spilled,
16:30and the skins will be destroyed.
16:33Instead,
16:34new wine must be poured
16:35into new wineskins.
16:38No one after drinking old wine
16:40wants the new,
16:41for he says,
16:43the old is good enough.
16:46This is the word of the Lord.
16:49Thanks be to God.
17:01Now according to your word,
17:03Sovereign Lord,
17:05permit your servant
17:06to depart in peace.
17:08For my eyes have seen
17:10your salvation
17:11that you have prepared
17:12in the presence of all peoples,
17:15a light for revelation
17:17to the Gentiles
17:18and for glory
17:20to your people Israel.
17:24Glory be to the Father
17:25and to the Son
17:26and to the Holy Spirit,
17:28as it was in the beginning,
17:30is now and ever shall be,
17:32world without end.
17:34Amen.
17:39I believe in God,
17:41the Father Almighty,
17:43maker of heaven and earth,
17:45and in Jesus Christ,
17:46his only Son,
17:47our Lord,
17:49who was conceived
17:50by the Holy Spirit,
17:52born of the Virgin Mary,
17:54suffered unto Pontius Pilate,
17:57was crucified,
17:58dead and buried.
18:00He descended into hell.
18:03On the third day,
18:04he rose again from the dead.
18:06He ascended into heaven
18:08and is sitting
18:10at the right hand of God,
18:11the Father Almighty.
18:13From there,
18:14he shall come to judge
18:15the living and the dead.
18:18I believe in the Holy Spirit,
18:20the Holy Catholic Church,
18:22the communion of saints,
18:24the forgiveness of sins,
18:26the resurrection of the body
18:28and the life everlasting.
18:31Amen.
18:36The Lord be with you
18:39and with your spirit.
18:43Let us pray.
18:47Lord, have mercy upon us.
18:50Christ, have mercy upon us.
18:55Lord, have mercy upon us.
19:01Our Father,
19:03who is in heaven,
19:05holy is your name.
19:07May your kingdom come.
19:10May your will be done
19:11on earth as it is in heaven.
19:14Give us this day
19:16our daily bread.
19:17Forgive us our trespasses
19:19as we forgive those
19:21who trespass against us.
19:24lead us not into temptation,
19:26but deliver us from evil.
19:29For yours is the kingdom,
19:32the power and the glory,
19:34for ever and ever.
19:36Amen.
19:41O Lord, show your mercy upon us
19:44and grant us your salvation.
19:50protect and guide those
19:52in authority over us
19:55and mercifully hear us
19:57when we call upon you.
20:01Endue your ministers
20:02with righteousness
20:04and make your chosen people joyful.
20:09O Lord, save your people
20:12and bless your inheritance.
20:17Give peace in our time,
20:20O Lord,
20:21because there is none other
20:23who fights for us
20:24but only you, O God.
20:28O God, make clean
20:29our hearts within us
20:32and take not
20:34your Holy Spirit from us.
20:43Let us pray.
20:46O Lord, we pray
20:48that your grace
20:49may always be present
20:51and follow us,
20:52making us continually
20:54given to all good works.
20:57Through Jesus Christ,
20:58our Lord.
21:00Amen.
21:07O God,
21:09from whom all holy desires,
21:12all good counsels
21:13and all just works
21:14proceed,
21:16give to your servants
21:17that peace
21:18which the world cannot give,
21:21that our hearts
21:22may be set to obey
21:23your commandments
21:24and also that,
21:26by you,
21:28we, being defended
21:29from the fear
21:30of our enemies,
21:31may pass our time
21:33in rest and quietness.
21:35Through the merits
21:36of Jesus Christ,
21:38our Saviour.
21:39Amen.
21:44Lighten our darkness,
21:46we beseech you,
21:47O Lord,
21:48and by your great mercy
21:49defend us all
21:51from perils
21:52and dangers
21:53of this night.
21:54For the love
21:55of your only Son,
21:56our Saviour,
21:58Jesus Christ.
21:59Amen.
22:03Almighty God,
22:04who has given us grace
22:06at this time
22:07with one accord
22:08to make our common
22:09supplications to you
22:11and promises
22:12that when two or three
22:14are gathered together
22:15in your name,
22:16you will grant
22:17their requests.
22:20Fulfill now,
22:21O Lord,
22:22the desires
22:23and petitions
22:24of your servants
22:25as may be most
22:26beneficial for them,
22:29granting us
22:30in this world
22:31knowledge of your truth
22:32and in the world
22:34to come
22:35life everlasting.
22:37Amen.
22:40With the grace
22:41of our Lord Jesus Christ
22:43and the love of God
22:44and the fellowship
22:45of the Holy Spirit
22:46be with us all
22:48evermore.
22:50Amen.
22:50Amen.
