Catholic Mass Today I Daily Holy Mass I Thursday October 1 2026 I English Holy Mass
Transcript
00:14In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, the Lord be with you.
00:20Welcome to Mass as we come together to thank Almighty God for the incredible gifts we've been given.
00:27The actress of Lisier, a beautiful young saint who has inspired so many around the world.
00:37She was born in about 1893.
00:42Her mother, who already had cancer, died when she was only about four.
00:51And then she was desperate to join the convent, which was normally about 16, 18.
01:01But under all these circumstances, she eventually arranged for people to let her into the convent at 15, where she
01:15began her life as a Carmelite nun.
01:17And then she died at 24.
01:22And you might say, well, that was a short, sweet life.
01:26But during that time that she was in the convent, the superior, who was actually her sister, asked her to
01:37just write a treatise, a small reflection, which she did.
01:42And it was only three or four little exercise books, which became the story of a soul, you might know
01:51it, by Saint Teresa of Lisier.
01:53And it really took the world by storm.
01:57People were, it was really God's grace.
02:00And so she became recognised as a saint and has influenced so many in the world.
02:08I had the pleasure, actually, of visiting Lisier, visiting the convent, where she used to live and pray.
02:17It was a very moving experience and I thought a great privilege.
02:22So we pray in thanksgiving to God today for this beautiful saint and we ask for her intercession for us.
02:33But in the meantime, we stand in God's presence and whilst we thank him, we ask his pardon.
02:43Lord, sometimes we can take your precious gift of life for granted.
02:48Lord, have mercy.
02:51Lord, sometimes we can take this beautiful world that you've given us for granted.
02:55Christ, have mercy.
02:58Lord, sometimes in our hurry and indeed our selfishness, we can take one another for granted.
03:05Lord, have mercy.
03:07May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins and bring us to life everlasting.
03:14Let us pray.
03:18O God, who opened your kingdom to those who are humble and to little ones, lead us to follow trustingly
03:30in the little way of St. Teresa,
03:33that through her intercession we may see your eternal glory revealed.
03:39And we ask this through Christ's help.
03:48And our first reading today is from the prophet Isaiah.
03:54Rejoice, Jerusalem, and be glad for her, all you who love her.
04:01Rejoice, rejoice for her, all you who mourn her,
04:06that you may be suckled and filled from her consoling breast,
04:12that you may savour with delight her glorious breasts.
04:16For thus says the Lord,
04:20Now towards her I send flowing peace, like a river,
04:24and like a stream in spite the glory of the nations.
04:29At her breast will her nurslings be carried and fondled in her lap.
04:34Like a son, comforted by his mother, will I comfort you.
04:39And by Jerusalem you will be comforted.
04:44At the sight your heart will rejoice,
04:47and your bones flourish like the grass.
04:50To his servants the Lord will reveal his hand.
04:55The word of the Lord.
05:00Our response to the psalm today is
05:03In you, Lord, I have found my peace.
05:07In you, Lord, I have found my peace.
05:10O Lord, my heart is not proud, nor haught in my eyes.
05:13I have not won after things too great, nor marvels beyond me.
05:18In you, Lord, I have found my peace.
05:22Truly I have set my soul in silence and peace.
05:25A weaned child on its mother's breast, even so is my soul.
05:30In you, Lord, I have found my peace.
05:34O Israel, hope in the Lord, both now and forever.
05:39In you, Lord, I have found my peace.
05:44And we welcome the gospel.
05:47Hallelujah, hallelujah.
05:49Blessed are you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth.
05:52You have revealed to little ones the mysteries of the kingdom.
05:56Hallelujah.
05:59The Lord be with you.
06:01A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew.
06:07The disciples came to Jesus and said,
06:11Well, who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?
06:16So Jesus called a little child to him and set the child in front of them.
06:24And then he said,
06:25I tell you solemnly,
06:27unless you change and become like little children,
06:32you'll never enter the kingdom of heaven.
06:34And so the one who makes himself as little as this little child
06:41is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
06:46Anyone who welcomes a little child like this in my name
06:52welcomes me.
06:56The gospel of the Lord.
07:05Listen to you, Lord God of all creation,
07:07for your goodness we have received the bread we offer you,
07:09fruit of the earth and work of human hand.
07:11It will become for us the bread of life.
07:15By the mystery of this water and wine,
07:18may we come to share in the divinity of Christ,
07:21who humbled himself to share in our humanity.
07:32Blessed be you, Lord God of all creation,
07:34for your goodness we have received the wine we offer you,
07:36fruit of the vine and work of human hand,
07:38and will become our spiritual tree.
07:42Lord God, we ask you to receive us from the peace of the sacrifice,
07:45we offer you with humble and contrite hearts.
07:48Lord, wash away my inequity,
07:50cleanse me from my sin.
08:06Pray now, my brothers and sisters,
08:08that my sacrifice and yours
08:10may be acceptable to God,
08:12the Almighty Father.
08:17As we proclaim your wonders in sanctuaries, O Lord,
08:22we humbly implore your majesty
08:25that as her merits were pleasing to you,
08:28so too our dutiful service
08:31may find favour in your sight.
08:34And we ask this through Christ our Lord.
08:37Lord, the Lord be with you.
08:39Lift up your hearts.
08:41Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
08:44It is truly right and just our duty and our salvation,
08:48always and everywhere, to give you thanks,
08:50Lord, Holy Father, Almighty and eternal God,
08:53through Christ.
08:55For, as on this festival of St. Therese of Lisieux,
09:00Father, you bid your church rejoice,
09:02so too you strengthen the church
09:05by her example of her holy life.
09:08You teach the church by her preaching
09:12and you keep her safe in answer to her prayers.
09:15And so with the company of angels and saints
09:18we sing the hymn of your praise
09:19as without end we acclaim,
09:22Holy, Holy, Holy Lord, God of Christ,
09:26Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
09:28Hosanna in the highest.
09:30Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
09:33Hosanna in the highest.
09:38You are indeed holy, O Lord,
09:40the fount of all holiness.
09:41Make holy, therefore, these gifts we pray
09:43by sending down your Spirit upon them
09:46like the dewfall,
09:48so that they may become for us
09:49the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.
09:52At the time he was betrayed
09:54and entered willingly into his passion
09:56he took bread.
09:57For giving thanks he broke it
09:59and gave it to his disciples saying,
10:01Take this all of you and eat of it,
10:03for this is my body
10:05which will be given up to you.
10:26For this is my way when supper was then
10:28as he took the chalice
10:29and once more giving thanks
10:30he gave it to his disciples saying,
10:32Take this all of you and drink from it,
10:34for this is the chalice of my blood,
10:37the blood of the new and eternal covenant
10:39which will be poured out for you
10:41and for many
10:42for the forgiveness of sins.
10:44Do this in memory of me.
11:02The mystery of faith,
11:04when we eat this bread and drink this cup,
11:07we proclaim your death, O Lord,
11:09until you come again.
11:11Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial
11:13of his death and resurrection,
11:15we offer you, Lord,
11:16the bread of life
11:17and the chalice of salvation,
11:18giving thanks
11:19that you've held us worthy
11:21to be in your presence
11:22and to minister to you.
11:24Humbly we pray
11:25that partaking of the body and blood of Christ,
11:28we may be gathered into one
11:30by the Holy Spirit.
11:32Remember, Lord, your church
11:34spread throughout the world.
11:36Bring her to the fullness of charity,
11:38together with Leo, our Pope,
11:40Charles, our Bishop,
11:42all the clergy
11:42and the Holy Christ people.
11:45Remember also,
11:46our brothers and sisters
11:47who've fallen asleep
11:48in the hope of the resurrection.
11:50And all who have died in your mercy,
11:53welcome them into the light of your face.
11:57Have mercy on us all,
11:58we pray,
11:58that with the Blessed Virgin Mary,
12:00Mother of God,
12:01St. Joseph,
12:02her spouse,
12:03the blessed Apostles,
12:04all the saints
12:05who have pleased you
12:06throughout the ages,
12:07we may merit
12:09to be co-heirs
12:10to eternal life
12:11and may praise and glorify you
12:13through your Son,
12:14Jesus Christ.
12:17Through him and with him
12:18and in him,
12:19O God Almighty,
12:20Father,
12:21in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
12:23for glory and honour is yours
12:24forever and ever.
12:29And we pray now
12:30the beautiful prayer
12:31that Jesus taught us to pray.
12:33Our Father,
12:34who art in heaven,
12:35hallowed be thy name,
12:38thy kingdom come,
12:39thy will be done,
12:41on earth as it is in heaven.
12:43Give us this day our daily bread,
12:45and forgive us our trespasses,
12:47as we forgive those
12:49who trespass against us.
12:51And lead us not into temptation,
12:53but deliver us from evil.
12:55deliver us Lord,
12:57we pray from every evil,
12:58graciously grant peace in our day,
13:01by the help of your mercy,
13:02and we're always free from sin,
13:04and safe from all distress,
13:07as we await the blessed hope
13:08in the coming of our Saviour,
13:10Jesus Christ.
13:12For the kingdom,
13:13the power,
13:13and the glory are yours,
13:15now and forever.
13:16Lord Jesus Christ,
13:17who said to your Apostles,
13:18peace I leave you,
13:20my peace I give you,
13:22look not on our sins,
13:24for I'm the faith of your church,
13:26and gracious you come,
13:27I have peace and unity
13:28in accordance with your will,
13:30who live and reign forever and ever.
13:32The peace of the Lord
13:34be with you always.
13:36Let us offer each other a sign of peace,
13:39peace now,
13:39wherever you might be.
13:43Lamb of God,
13:45we take away the sins of the world,
13:48have blessed on us.

14:18We call the Lamb of God,
14:20behold him who takes away the sins of the world,
14:22blessed to those called to the supper of the Lamb.
14:26Lord, I am not worthy
14:28that you should enter under my roof,
14:30but only say the word,
14:32and my soul shall be healed.
14:35My Jesus,
14:37I believe that you are present
14:38in the most blessed sacrament.
14:40I love you above all things,
14:42and I desire to receive you into my soul.
14:45Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally,
14:49come at least spiritually into my heart.
14:51I embrace you as if you were already there,
14:53and unite myself wholly to you.
14:57Never permit me to be separated from you.
15:00Amen.
15:01Let us pray.
15:05May the sacrament be received,
15:07O Lord,
15:09kindling us the force of that love
15:11with which St. Therese
15:13dedicated herself to you,
15:16and longed to obtain your mercy for everyone.
15:20We ask this through Christ our Lord.
15:23The Lord be with you.
