00:21We acknowledge on this feast of St. Barnabas the gift of the Apostles and the good news that they bring
00:26us
00:27as we acknowledge our sins and the compassion and the mercy and the love of God.
00:32You send us your good news to the Apostles, Lord, have mercy.
00:36You call us to share in their mission, Christ, have mercy.
00:40You send us to make disciples of all nations, Lord, have mercy.
00:44May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins and lead us into healing and life everlasting.
00:53Today, being the Feast of the Apostles, we pray the Gloria.
00:57Glory to God in the highest and on earth, peace to people of goodwill.
01:02We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you.
01:05We give you thanks for your great glory.
01:08Lord God, Heavenly King, O God, Almighty Father, Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son,
01:15Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on
01:22us.
01:23You take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer.
01:26You are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us.
01:30For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ,
01:36with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father.
01:40Amen.
01:41Let us pray.
01:46O God, who decreed that Saint Barnabas, a man filled with faith and the Holy Spirit,
01:51should be set apart to convert the nations,
01:54grant that the gospel of Christ, which is strenuously preached,
01:59may be faithfully proclaimed by word and by deed,
02:02through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
02:04who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
02:07God, for ever and ever.
02:10Amen.
02:13A reading from the Acts of the Apostles
02:17A great number believed and were converted to the Lord.
02:20The church in Jerusalem heard about this,
02:23and they sent Barnabas to Antioch.
02:26There he could see for himself that God had given grace and displeased him,
02:31and he urged them all to remain faithful to the Lord,
02:35with heartfelt devotion, for he was a good man, filled with the Holy Spirit and with faith.
02:43And a large number of people were won over to the Lord.
02:48Barnabas then left for Tarsus to look for Saul,
02:50and when he found him, he brought him to Antioch.
02:53As things turned out, they were to live together in that church a whole year,
02:58instructing a large number of people.
03:01It was at Antioch that the disciples were first called Christians.
03:05In the church of Antioch, the following were prophets and teachers,
03:12Barnabas, Simeo, called Niga,
03:16and Lucas of Cyrene,
03:19Manion, who had been brought up with Herod the Tetrarch,
03:23and Saul.
03:24One day, while they were offering worship to the Lord and keeping a fast,
03:30the Holy Spirit said,
03:31I want Barnabas and Saul set out apart for the work to which I have called them.
03:37So it was that after fasting and prayer,
03:40they laid their hands on them and sent them off.
03:44The word of the Lord.
03:46Thanks be to God.
03:47The Lord has revealed to the nations his saving power.
03:51The Lord has revealed to the nations his saving power.
03:54Sing a new song to the Lord, for he has worked wonders.
03:58His right hand and his holy arm have brought salvation.
04:01The Lord has revealed to the nations his saving power.
04:05The Lord has made known his salvation,
04:08has shown his justice to the nations.
04:10He has remembered his truth and love for the house of Israel.
04:14The Lord has revealed to the nations his saving power.
04:18All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.
04:22Shout to the Lord, O the earth, bring out your joy.
04:26The Lord has revealed to the nations his saving power.
04:30Sing psalms to the Lord with the harp,
04:32with the sound of music,
04:34with trumpets and the sound of the horn.
04:37Acclaim the King, the Lord.
04:39The Lord has revealed to the nations his saving power.
04:44Alleluia, alleluia.
04:45Go and teach all people in my gospel.
04:48I am with you always until the end of the world.
04:51Alleluia.
04:53The Lord be with you.
04:55A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew.
04:59Glory to you, O Lord.
05:01Jesus said to his apostles,
05:02As you go, proclaim that the kingdom of heaven is close at hand.
05:07Cure the sick, raise the dead,
05:10cleanse the lepers,
05:12cast out devils.
05:13You have received without charge,
05:15give without charge.
05:17Provide yourselves with no gold or silver,
05:20not even a few coppers for your purse,
05:23with no haversack for the journey,
05:26or spare tunic,
05:27or footwear,
05:29or a staff,
05:31for the workmen deserve to their keep.
05:34Whatever town or village you go into,
05:36ask for someone trustworthy
05:38and stay with them until you leave.
05:41As you enter their house,
05:44salute it,
05:45and if the house deserves it,
05:47let your peace descend upon it.
05:48If it does not,
05:50let your peace come back to you.
05:54The Gospel of the Lord.
05:57Praise to you,
05:58Lord Jesus Christ.
06:06Go and make disciples of all nations,
06:08baptize them in the name of the Father,
06:10and of the Son,
06:10and of the Holy Spirit.
06:12That was the task Jesus gave to the apostles,
06:15and that was shared, of course,
06:17by the ones that they preached the Gospel to,
06:19who took on their faith seriously,
06:22and Barnabas was certainly one of them.
06:26And together with Paul,
06:27as his companion,
06:28they went about preaching everywhere.
06:30Being human beings like we all are,
06:33they had a disagreement at one stage over Mark,
06:36and Paul didn't want Mark,
06:38a relative of Barnabas,
06:39to come with them.
06:40So they went different ways,
06:42proclaiming the Gospel.
06:44Eventually they made up,
06:45and ended up very peacefully.
06:48We are human beings,
06:50all of us,
06:50and we find obstacles,
06:52and we let the ego get in the way sometimes,
06:55and all other human imperfections.
06:58But God is bigger than all that,
07:00and he is with us always,
07:02as we continue our mission,
07:03living the Gospel,
07:04and proclaiming it by our lives.
07:11Blessed are you,
07:12Lord God of all creation,
07:13for to your goodness we have this bread to offer,
07:16which art has given human hands have made,
07:18and will become for us the bread of life.
07:21Blessed be God forever.
07:39Blessed are you,
07:40Lord God of all creation,
07:42for to your goodness we have this wine to offer,
07:44fruit of divine work of human hands,
07:46it will become our spiritual drink.
07:49Blessed be God forever.
07:52Blessed be God forever.
07:59Let us pray,
08:00brothers and sisters,
08:01that my sacrifice and yours
08:03may be acceptable to God,
08:05our Almighty Father.
08:07May the Lord accept the sacrifice at our hands,
08:10for the praise and glory of God's name,
08:12for our good and the good of God's Holy Church.
08:19Let us pray,
08:19sanctify with blessing,
08:20we pray,
08:21O Lord,
08:21the offerings presented here,
08:23so that by your grace,
08:24they may set us on fire,
08:26with the flame of your love,
08:28by which St. Barnabas brought life to the gospel,
08:31of the gospel to the nations,
08:33through Christ our Lord.
08:35Amen.
08:37The Lord be with you.
08:40Lift up your hearts.
08:42Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
08:46It is truly right and just,
08:48our duty and our salvation,
08:50always and everywhere to give you thanks,
08:53Lord,
08:54Holy Father,
08:55Almighty and eternal God.
08:57For you,
08:58eternal shepherd,
08:59do not desert your flock,
09:00but through the blessed apostles,
09:02watch over it and protect it always,
09:05so that it may be governed
09:07by those you have appointed shepherds,
09:09to lead it in the name of your Son.
09:12And so,
09:13with angels and archangels,
09:15with thrones and dominions,
09:17and with all the hosts and powers of heaven,
09:19we sing the hymn of your glory,
09:21as without end we acclaim,
09:24Holy,
09:25Holy,
09:26Holy Lord,
09:27God of hosts,
09:28heaven and earth are full of your glory,
09:32Hosanna in the highest.
09:34Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord,
09:37Hosanna in the highest.
09:39You are indeed holy,
09:41O Lord,
09:41the fount of all holiness.
09:43Make holy,
09:44therefore,
09:44these gifts,
09:45we pray,
09:45by sending down your Spirit upon them like the dewfall,
09:49that they may become for us
09:51the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.
09:54At the time he was betrayed
09:55and entered willingly into his passion,
09:58he took bread
09:59and giving thanks,
10:01broke it
10:02and gave it to his disciples,
10:04saying,
10:05Take this, all of you,
10:06and eat of it,
10:08for this is my body,
10:09which will be given up for you.
10:17In a similar way,
10:19when supper was ended,
10:20he took the chalice,
10:22and once more giving thanks,
10:25he gave it to his disciples,
10:27saying,
10:27Take this, all of you,
10:28and drink from it,
10:29for this is the chalice of my blood,
10:32the blood of the new and eternal covenant,
10:35which will be pulled out for you and for many,
10:38for the forgiveness of sins.
10:41Do this in memory of me.
10:49The mystery of faith.
10:51Save us,
10:52Savior of the world,
10:54for by your cross and resurrection,
10:56you have set us free.
10:59Therefore,
11:00as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection,
11:03we offer you,
11:04Lord,
11:05the bread of life
11:05and the chalice of salvation,
11:08giving thanks that you've held us worthy
11:10to be in your presence
11:11and minister to you.
11:14Humbly, we pray
11:15that partaking of the body and blood of Christ,
11:18we may be gathered into one
11:19by the Holy Spirit.
11:21Remember, Lord,
11:22your church spread throughout the world
11:24and bring her to the fullness of charity,
11:27together with Leo, our Pope,
11:30me, your unworthy servant,
11:31and all the clergy.
11:33Remember also our brothers and sisters
11:36who have fallen asleep
11:37in the hope of the resurrection
11:39and all who have died in your mercy.
11:42Welcome them into the light of your face.
11:45Have mercy on us all,
11:47we pray,
11:48that with the Blessed Virgin Mary,
11:50Mother of God,
11:51Blessed Joseph,
11:52her spouse,
11:53with the blessed apostles,
11:55we pray today,
11:56especially remembering

11:59and all the saints
12:00who have pleased you
12:01throughout the ages,
12:02we may merit to be
12:04coerced to eternal life
12:06and may praise and glorify you
12:08through your Son,
12:10Jesus Christ.
12:14through him and with him
12:16and in him,
12:17O God,
12:17Almighty Father,
12:18in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
12:20all glory and honor
12:21is yours forever and ever.
12:24Amen.
12:26At the Savior's command
12:27and formed by divine teaching,
12:29we dare to say,
12:31Our Father,
12:31who art in heaven,
12:33hallowed be thy name.
12:35Thy kingdom come,
12:36thy will be done on earth
12:38as it is in heaven.
12:39Give us this day
12:41our daily bread
12:42and forgive us
12:43our trespasses
12:44as we forgive those
12:46who trespass against us
12:47and lead us not
12:49into temptation,
12:50but deliver us
12:51from evil.
12:52Deliver us,

12:58of your mercy,
12:59we may be always

13:01and safe from all distress
13:03as we await
13:05a blessed hope
13:05and the coming
13:06of our Savior.
