00:01Sprockets, Sprockets, Best German Television presents Sprockets.
00:06Meet your host, Dieter.
00:10Welcome to Sprockets. I am your host, Dieter.
00:13Tonight our guest is one of America's foremost ports of anarchy and rebellion.
00:18An obsessed outcast whose dark visions drag us to the edge.
00:22His book, Jimmy Stewart and his poem,
00:26is filled with biting images that assault the senses
00:29unmasking both reader and poet alike in a macabre dance of despair.
00:35He has also appeared in films.
00:38Please welcome Jimmy Stewart.
00:49Mr. Stewart, critic Graus Grek in the latest issue of Verdkunst
00:54described your book as an asylum where a man meets his creator and screams.
01:00Well, thank you, Dieter.
01:03You know, Gloria and I are big fans of yours.
01:07In your poem, Old Rocking Chair,
01:11you write,
01:11You sit in the corner,
01:14Old Rocking Chair.
01:16It makes me feel good
01:17to know you are there.
01:21I feel emotionally obliterated.
01:25I'm glad to hear that.
01:28You see, good poetry is about destruction.
01:31Under what conditions does a man experience such raw truth?
01:35Well, Dieter, it's no picnic, I can tell you that right now.
01:39I was holed up in a Mexico City slum.
01:43I hadn't eaten in weeks,
01:45and what few pesos I'd had,
01:47I'd spent on alcohol.
01:48Some cheap crap called cho-cho.
01:53And I was down and out.
01:55And that's when I wrote,
01:56Good old Rocking Chair.
01:58You see, you've got to go through the pain.
02:01And what of your poem,
02:02Funny Little Pooch?
02:04Yeah.
02:05Well, there's a rather interesting story
02:08about that funny little pooch thing.
02:10There was a period of intense creativity for me, Dieter.
02:13Dieter.
02:14Dieter.
02:15Dieter.
02:16Yeah, yeah.
02:17You know, I've been hitchhiking through Paraguay
02:20when I finally settled in Bella Cristo
02:22with a 15-year-old whore.
02:26For a week straight,
02:27I was either having sex or hallucinating.
02:32Then I woke up one morning,
02:34and she was gone.
02:35She was just gone.
02:38And she'd taken all my stuff,
02:40and I just got crazy paranoid for a minute.
02:43Well, you know how it can be.
02:46And I just curled up on that floor like a little baby
02:49and just bawled my eyes out.
02:50And then a very interesting thing happened.
02:54I realized that I was just a speck of crud
02:58in a godless void.
03:00And 20 minutes later,
03:02I'd written Funny Little Pooch.
03:07Jimmy Stewart,
03:09you are a running sore,
03:11running from yourself,
03:12yet your scab heals us all.
03:16Yeah, yeah, yeah.
03:18Well, you know,
03:19I just do what I do.
03:23May I read the passage
03:24from My Kitten, My Pal?
03:26Well, I'd be honored, daughter.
03:28Dieter.
03:29Dieter.
03:29Dieter.
03:30Yeah.
03:32My kitten,
03:33my pal,
03:34you sit on my lap.
03:36Well, now, now,
03:37now, wait a minute.
03:38Now, now, you gotta,
03:38if you're gonna read it,
03:39you gotta scream it
03:40like it's a matter of life and death.
03:42You, can I,
03:43can I show you how, here?
03:45Right ahead.
03:46All right.
03:47My kitten,
03:48my pal,
03:49you,
03:49you sit on my lap.
03:51You're a friendly
03:52sort of chap.
03:55I don't know.
03:57I'll stay here.
04:02Now,
04:03that's good.
04:07A little bit of gray
04:08and a little bit of white.
04:10I'll tell you,
04:11little kitten,
04:11you're doing all right.
04:14Yeah.
04:15That poem pulls down my pants
04:16and taunts me.
04:20Well, that,
04:20well, that's exactly
04:21what it's supposed to do.
04:24Yeah.
04:25It's not rare
04:26when something happens like that.
04:27Yeah, I wrote that one
04:28on a piece of toilet paper
04:30after waking up
04:30in a puddle
04:31of my own sick.
04:34Now,
04:35now, it wasn't,
04:35wasn't pretty.
04:36It wasn't pretty.
04:37Is it true
04:38that you once
04:39killed a man?
04:40Well, no, no.
04:41Now, wait a minute there,
04:43daughter.
04:44No.
04:44That's right,
04:45Dieter.
04:46No man ever really dies
04:48by the hand of another.
04:50You see,
04:50every man's responsible
04:51for his own death.
04:53And,
04:54by the way,
04:55you haven't asked me
04:55if I want to touch
04:56your monkey.
04:58I thought it's beneath you.
05:00Well, Dieter,
05:01if that monkey knew
05:02where I'd been,
05:03he wouldn't let me touch him.
05:04Then touch him.
05:06Touch him.
05:06Touch my monkey.
05:07Lieber,
05:08my abs monkey.
05:08Teach my abs monkey.
05:10Touch him,
05:10young man.
05:11How are you,
05:11little pal?
05:12Let's go.
05:13Oh,
05:14oh,
05:14the son of a bitch
05:15bit me.
05:16Come on,
05:17monkey,
05:17let's see what's
05:18in that belly of yours.
05:20Now's the time
05:20on Sprockets
05:21when we dance.
05:28Now's the time
05:29we have on Sprockets.
05:30Our guest
05:30has been Jimmy Stewart.
05:31My name is Dieter.
05:32Auf Wiedersehen.
05:34Hi, Gloria.
05:38I'll see you
05:39in six weeks.
05:40I'm making a pitch drop
05:41in Perky.
05:42Yeah.
