00:01Locals and visitors can soon see Leeds in a new light, as the dazzling showcase of light
00:07night Leeds celebrates an historic year with tales of the city's past and future. For
00:12the first time the festival will take place during half term on the 28th and 29th of October,
00:18making it easier for families and visitors of all ages to experience all it has to offer.
00:24With the clocks going back the previous weekend, darkness will fall earlier, allowing the festival's
00:29spectacular large-scale projections and immersive artworks to begin from 6pm alongside the rest of
00:35the programme. With the theme A City Speaks, this year's light night will form part of Leeds 400,
00:42marking 400 years since Leeds was granted its first royal charter by King Charles I. Through
00:48contemporary art the festival will explore the stories, people and places that have shaped Leeds
00:53over the past four centuries, while looking towards the city's future.
00:58Using light projection, performance and immersive experiences, artists will invite audiences to see
01:04Leeds in new ways, celebrating everything that makes the city unique. Transforming familiar streets
01:10and buildings through art since 2005, the citywide festival is completely free and will feature over
01:1640 artworks by artists working in Leeds, the UK and internationally.
01:21Light Night Leeds is one of the UK's largest light festivals and last year it welcomed more than 200,000
01:28visitors
01:28across the city over the two nights. The festival is organised and delivered by Leeds City Council with additional
01:34support from Arts Council England alongside support from sponsors, trusts and foundations based in Leeds across the UK and across
01:42the world.
