04:04Welcome to this episode of the Fro Wrestling Podcast.
04:06I am Dr. Fro.
04:07Thank you for joining us.
04:09Tonight we are jumping into all things AEW Dynamite and Collision.
04:12Tonight is a three-hour extended opportunity to watch AEW Wrestling because this weekend we have All Out coming, and
04:20they want to make sure they fill all of their television time allotted to them by the network.
04:25I always find it weird that they classify these as two different shows, even though they're literally played back-to
04:29-back with each other, and then they play a replay right after that.
04:32So there's six straight hours of AEW Wrestling tonight on TBS.
04:37However, let's get started with the show.
04:39The show opens with a fantastic match, The New Level and Swerve Strickland taking on The Demand.
04:47I know The Demand are nowhere near the names that The New Level or Swerve Strickland is, but Bishop Khan,
04:53Toa Leona, Ricochet.
04:55Of course, Ricochet's been a star for a while, but the other two gentlemen are fantastic.
04:59They really, really are, and there is so much physicality in these matches.
05:04This is a side of The New Level or The New Day, whichever way you'd prefer to refer to them,
05:08that we really haven't seen in quite a long time.
05:11I think the last time I feel like we saw Kofi and Xavier Woods or Kofi and Austin Creed get
05:17this physical was when they were in Hell in a Cell with The Usos.
05:21That's the last time I remember it being this violent in their matches.
05:25They really, they're just on, no pun intended, actually, I guess maybe there is, they're on another level.
05:31They really are.
05:32They're doing some innovative stuff.
05:33I love what they're doing.
05:34And they look, they're wrestling like they're 10 years younger, which is fantastic.
05:38I love that.
05:39I'm loving everything I'm seeing from them.
05:40And so far, they've been on a tear since arriving in AEW.
05:43And I'm sure whenever the time comes for them to take a loss, I'm sure they'll be gracious enough to
05:48do that.
05:48But right now, who wants to kill the Golden Goose?
05:50They are putting out banger after banger, and I love everything about it.
05:55After this match, they get interrupted, the champions retain, and we have Swerve and The New Level in the ring,
06:01and they get interrupted by Brodito, Brody King and Bandito, along with Hangman Adam Page,
06:07who are looking for their match at All Out for the Trios Tag Team Championship.
06:13And I don't know how to feel about the way they cut this promo.
06:16There was a lot of trying to sow dissension between The New Level and Swerve,
06:21talking about how Swerve's going to reveal himself eventually.
06:24Swerve and Hangman Page going back and forth.
06:26They have so much history between the two of them.
06:28I think it's going to be a match that could potentially steal a good chunk of the show.
06:34But I'll be honest with you, I'm kind of over Swerve and Hangman being in these side quests.
06:39And frankly, I'd like to see Bandito and Brody King being more of like a singles situation.
06:46Now, I get it.
06:47The top of the card is very crammed right now, but Tony Khan has created so many championships.
06:51Why isn't Brody King national champion by now, or international champion by now,
06:56or Continental Classic champion, or whatever?
06:58At some point, the guy deserves some gold other than the World Tag Team or Trios Tag Team Championship.
07:03So, I don't know what they're going to do with that going forward, but I love everything about Brodito.
07:09I really do.
07:10But I think this match is going to be very solid.
07:12We do get an opportunity to see Will Ospreay talking to Speedball Mike Bailey.
07:18He's there with Francesco Akira, and they're offering Speedball Mike Bailey an opportunity to join the United Empire,
07:24which Speedball actually accepts.
07:27I didn't expect him to take it.
07:28I really didn't.
07:29But he did, and this is, you know, it kind of furthers the message that Will Ospreay's putting together,
07:33his new United Empire in AEW, something that people were, you know, questioning recently.
07:39Were they pulling the plug on him having a faction?
07:42Not so much.
07:43I'm glad to see that they're going to move forward with that.
07:45Should be good stuff.
07:46From there, we get an AEW Continental Championship Eliminator match.
07:49Jon Moxley facing Desmond Xavier.
07:52Look, this was a glorified squash match.
07:54Mox was never going to be in danger here.
07:56I don't know if this is just to fill time.
07:58You got three hours to fill, and they can't think of anything else to do.
08:01But whatever it is what it is, the match was relatively solid.
08:05From there, we get an interview segment between the Young Bucks, FTR, Cage, and Cope.
08:10They are having a TLC match at All Out, and I'm looking forward to this.
08:14I thought it was really hilarious to hear the Young Bucks refer to his FTR as the Dudley Boys.
08:21I think that's absolutely hilarious.
08:24It's a shock that they would reference that on AEW.
08:27Even though they've referenced WWE-related content in the past, straight up calling out a team by their name, that
08:32seems like it's a whole other level.
08:35This does end up resulting eventually in a full-on brawl with the FTRs, Bucks, and Cage and Cope.
08:40And eventually, after knocking out 9,000 people in security, all three teams standing tall and staring each other down
08:48should be a great match.
08:49I don't think at this stage of their careers these guys are going to put on a better TLC match
08:54than the original.
08:56But I think they will put out a bigger effort than a lot of people would.
09:00I think it's going to be an exciting match.
09:01And it really, every match I've mentioned so far for All Out is looking like it's going to be a
09:07banger.
09:07So I'm hoping it lives up to the expectation.
09:10Because if it does, this could be one of the best pay-per-views in AEW history.
09:15Next match, we get Tommaso Ciampa taking on Jake Doyle.
09:19Ciampa's quest to take out members of the Don Callis family.
09:22Of course, he picks up the win because he's in a high-profile match.
09:26Talking about how he's on different islands with Kojutsuka Okada, but now they're together.
09:30It's going to be the Psycho Killer versus the Rainmaker at All Out.
09:35And I honestly, normally I would say Okada's winning this hands down.
09:39I'm starting to question that.
09:41I'm starting to think we may see Tommaso Ciampa take the championship from Kojutsuka Okada.
09:46I don't know.
09:47But either way, I think the match is going to be very hard-hitting, very fast-paced, super technical.
09:52And it could be one of the best matches on the card.
09:55From there, Haiyan challenging Persephone for the TBS Championship.
10:00This is another one, in my opinion, was supposed to be a glorified squash match.
10:04Now, Persephone does use the hand on the ropes to get the pin at the end.
10:08I don't know that that was necessary.
10:09I would just keep booking her strong.
10:11She's very much over with the fans.
10:13I don't think you need to tarnish that with convoluted booking.
10:19But, I'm glad to see Haiyan get some more television time.
10:21I didn't expect her to do much in the match.
10:23I think she got more offense in than I was expecting.
10:26But again, AEW does something really well that a lot of other companies, WWE specifically, in the past, have not
10:32always done.
10:33Which is, they find a way to showcase all of their female talents and make them all look great, no
10:37matter what they do.
10:38So, and just like I said in a couple episodes ago about WWE's women's division, how deep it is, top
10:43to bottom, from Evolve all the way through the main roster, AEW also is absolutely stacked.
10:49Whether it's Ring of Honor, Collision, Dynamite, doesn't matter.
10:53The number of talents and the quality of the talents in the women's division is unbelievable.
10:58You know, and honestly, I had somebody ask me the other day in passing conversation, one of my friends who's
11:04a pro wrestling fan, saying, who do you think has a better women's division?
11:08I don't have an answer for that.
11:09I really don't.
11:10I would love to, the easy answer is always WWE because they're the biggest platform.
11:14But that does not mean they've got the best wrestlers in the world.
11:17I mean, think about it.
11:17For every, I don't know, who do you consider to be the top female in WWE?
11:22For every Rhea Ripley, there's an AEW, Mercedes Monet.
11:26For, you know, Charlotte Flair, there's Tecla.
11:29For, you know, you know, Stephanie Veccher, you've got a Persephone.
11:34Like, it really is a teeter-totter conversation about who's got the better women's division.
11:39They're all stacked.
11:40And we didn't even get into people like Willow Nightingale and Becky Lynch and Liv Morgan and, you know, all
11:46the way down the things, Sky Blue, whoever.
11:48They're all super solid performers, Thunder Rosa.
11:51So, definitely, women's wrestling is seriously in a great position right now.
11:55Can't wait to see where they go from there.
11:57The main event of the Dynamite episode, Will Ospreay and the newly acquired Speedball Mike Bailey to the United Empire,
12:05taking on Gabe Kidd and Claudio Castagnoli.
12:08And, of course, they have Jon Moxley and Marina Shafir at ringside with them.
12:13The match is amazing.
12:14It really is.
12:15As Ospreay ends up, Ospreay and Speedball both going for a hold on Gabe Kidd and Claudio.
12:21Claudio reverses it.
12:22And as he's reversing it, Claudio gets hit and taken out and pinned.
12:26Ospreay pins him for the win.
12:28Solid match for a television show.
12:31After the match, Moxley's in the ring talking some trash with Will Ospreay.
12:36Gabe Kidd comes in to try to sneak attack Ospreay, slows his momentum so he doesn't hit Jon Moxley.
12:43And then you've got Will Ospreay going after him again.
12:46A lot of tension there.
12:47But also, it's an interesting angle because they keep booking these promos with Will Ospreay and Jon Moxley just showing
12:54each other so much respect.
12:55I really like the way they're doing that.
12:58And I'm not sure how that's going to play out at the pay-per-view or whatever you want to
13:01call it.
13:02But it's definitely drawing me in.
13:05I'm starting to get some interest in seeing All Out and seeing the world championship match.
13:10I don't obviously expect any championship change in that match.
13:14But I think it's going to be a hard-hitting slobber knocker to quote Jim Ross.
13:18And, again, Will Ospreay is always a threat to take the match of the night home.
13:23He really is.
13:25From there, they switch over to Collision.
13:27First thing on Collision is Jack Perry having a conversation about Samoa Joe.
13:31He wants to face Samoa Joe.
13:33But he's been told in order to get to Samoa Joe, he has to go through Katsiora Shibata.
13:37Shibata is an absolute badass.
13:40And that's going to be a hard-hitting affair.
13:42I'm surprised after signing his new contract that Jack Perry has really done almost nothing.
13:48Fighting with the ops, I guess, is something.
13:50But it could be so much better.
13:52Samoa Joe, I feel like he hasn't done anything of substance in so long.
13:55It's almost like, who cares?
13:56We get a really corny segment where there's a tea party between Divine Dominion and the Brawling Birds.
14:02Which, of course, leads to a brawl at the end of the match.
14:05And hitting each other with teapots and all that kind of fun stuff.
14:07I think it was great because I think this is going to be the end of the feud.
14:10I think the Brawling Birds are going to retain the championship.
14:13And then eventually we'll see some new challengers come up to challenge for those championships.
14:18But right now, and I think that'll end up being Britt Baker and Persephone, perhaps.
14:23But I thought this was good to just keep the intrigue on the Divine Dominion feud.
14:28Until after All Out where they'll finally rectify this.
14:31And then I expect Megan Bain, perhaps, to go off into a singles direction.
14:35Because I think they're severely underusing her for everything that she's capable of.
14:41From there, we get Kyle Fletcher and Kevin Knight taking on the Outrunners.
14:46Fletcher and Knight are accompanied by Don Callis.
14:51Whereas the Outrunners are accompanied by Dalton Castle.
14:54How the mighty have fallen.
14:55Dalton Castle used to be a Ring of Honor world champion.
14:57Six-man champion.
14:58Like, he's done so much.
15:00And I feel like ever since he got to AEW's and their version of Ring of Honor, he's just...
15:05He's almost like a sidekick.
15:07He's not as interesting.
15:08He's not...
15:09I don't know.
15:09He's just different.
15:10I would have considered him a world championship level contender coming out of the old school Ring of Honor.
15:15And there was talk of WWE having interest.
15:18And now he's...
15:19I don't know.
15:20He doesn't hold much value for me when I see him in the shows.
15:24Of course, Fletcher and Knight pick up the win.
15:27Relatively short order.
15:28And that leads to an interview where they're talking trash about Darby Allin and Stephen Borden.
15:32Who end up answering that conversation.
15:35And there's some back and forth.
15:36And a lot of conversation about Stephen Borden being a rookie.
15:39Which makes a lot of sense.
15:40He is.
15:41But I'll tell you what, man.
15:42That kid is coming along so fast.
15:44He's got a bright future in the business.
15:46And I'm actually looking forward to this tag team match.
15:48Because I want to see what Stephen Borden can do in the ring.
15:50In a pay-per-view environment with such limited match experience.
15:55This could be really, really cool.
15:57We do get a segment with Chris Jericho and Nick Wayne.
16:01I don't know.
16:02I'm not buying this one.
16:03It doesn't draw my attention.
16:05It really doesn't.
16:06I wish it did.
16:07I really, really wish it did.
16:10But I just...
16:11Honestly, this one, Jericho was kind of having a conversation with Nick Wayne about the similarities
16:15between them.
16:16He referenced Nick Bockwinkle.
16:17Which I thought was kind of cool.
16:19And advice Nick Bockwinkle had given him at some point.
16:23It's okay.
16:24But I almost feel like it's Jericho and Sammy Guevara all over again.
16:28Where Jericho is trying to almost mentor some young guy.
16:31And I'm really not interested in seeing that with Nick Wayne.
16:33I'm really not.
16:34It does absolutely nothing for me.
16:38From there, we get Queen Aminata taking on Sky Blue.
16:44And Aminata is accompanied by Mina Shirakawa.
16:47And Sky Blue is accompanied by Julia Hart.
16:50And look, this is a disaster waiting to happen.
16:54Because they make a tease.
16:59It's somehow...
17:00Queen Aminata picks up the win.
17:01Let's just start there.
17:02But there's like a tease for Aminata and Monet.
17:05Which I don't want to see right now.
17:06Because Monet's got something going on right now between Tekla and Willow.
17:11There's...
17:12Ends up leading to a brawl after the fact.
17:14After Queen Aminata picks up the win.
17:16We see a brawl.
17:17Mina Shirakawa...
17:18Well, first off, Sky Blue and Julia Hart attack Aminata.
17:21Mina Shirakawa hits the ring.
17:23Evens things up.
17:24As they're fighting, Tekla eventually arrives.
17:26And it's a beat down.
17:28They're holding Aminata and Mina for a spear from Tekla.
17:32And then we see the return of Willow Nightingale.
17:35Who's going to get involved.
17:36She has Tekla up for a minute before she's saved.
17:39But it's obvious.
17:40There's so much going on here.
17:41I don't know how this all works into All Out.
17:43Maybe we see a triple threat.
17:45Tekla, Willow, and Mercedes.
17:48But Mercedes stands up on her table.
17:50And she's just like holding up her championship.
17:52Making it obvious that that's something that they're going to have to resolve at some point in the near future.
17:58But I don't know.
17:59It should be.
18:01Every Mercedes-Money match lately has been phenomenal.
18:03So I expect nothing but good stuff there.
18:05We get...
18:06And the next match we get, we have Pac taking on Ace Austin.
18:11Solid match.
18:12At the end of the match, after Pac picks up the win.
18:15We have a beat down of Ace Austin.
18:18Jay White hits the ring to make the save.
18:20And then the dogs and the Death Riders come out to get involved.
18:23That brings out the rest of the Bang Bang gang.
18:25And with all this melee going on.
18:27All these guys beating each other up.
18:29Pac is still in the ring when Andrade hits the ring.
18:32And goes after Pac.
18:33Because they have their match coming up at All Out as well.
18:37For the national championship.
18:39Should be very interesting, interesting stuff.
18:42I think at some point I forgot something.
18:45Oh, well, you know.
18:45There was a backstage segment with Britt Baker and Persephone.
18:48They were talking trash about Hyen and Thunder Rosa.
18:52Because they're going to be having a tag team match.
18:54In what she called referenced as Britsburg.
18:57And it should be good stuff.
18:58Persephone has an open challenge that she threw out there.
19:02For All Out.
19:03I'm not sure who's going to answer that open challenge.
19:05That should be somebody who's like a shock.
19:08Because first off, I'm very impressed with everything Persephone does.
19:11But I'd like to see her have some kind of shocking opponent moment.
19:14Because I think that would really captivate the audience a little bit better.
19:18But I don't know who you bring in or who you have be that surprise opponent.
19:22Unless you want to really shake people up and have it be somebody like, oh my gosh, I'm drawing a
19:29blank on her name.
19:30I'm going to a hot place for that.
19:32Oh my goodness.
19:32If you want to make her move over to AEW's programming predominantly and get away from Ring of Honor, you
19:40could have her show up and win the TBS championship in an open challenge.
19:44And then eventually, I guess, relinquish her Ring of Honor title and that lengthy, lengthy championship reign.
19:50That's something I'd be interested in seeing.
19:52There's not a lot of other people I'd like to see in this scenario.
19:55Maybe because of the working relationship between CMLL and AEW.
19:59I'll throw this out there.
20:00It's a long shot.
20:01I don't think it'll happen.
20:02But after all the drama between CMLL and MLW, maybe CMLL, instead of sending her to MLW, maybe they send
20:11Tessa Blanchard to All Out to face Persephone in this open challenge.
20:16I would love to see that.
20:18I'm waiting to see Tessa show up in a major company anyways.
20:20We'll have to wait and see if that happens.
20:22I'm holding my breath.
20:23Not really because I don't think it's going to happen.
20:25But I'm hoping.
20:26I'm hoping it's going to happen.
