04:11One, Jake Hager.

04:12This conversation started early, or I should say right around Thursday night at Power Slap 23.

04:16Jake Hager making another appearance.

04:18And in this appearance, when he takes his shot, I believe it was the second shot of the match, he

04:24has some serious eye injury.

04:26We see blood coming out of the eye.

04:28Now, I've heard mixed reports about what happened.

04:30His family released a statement but didn't exactly explain what happened.

04:33The theory was is that it made his tear duct explode.

04:38And he had to rush to the hospital.

04:39He had emergency surgery.

04:41We do not have an update on Jake Hager yet.

04:43We're hoping that his eye is good to go, that this is a simple fix.

04:46But we have not had any further information at this point.

04:50Dana White, very clear that he is very frustrated that the people with Power Slap, they replayed this over and

04:57over again.

04:57He's like, he felt like that was disrespectful.

05:00And look, I don't know how to feel about this.

05:03Mixed martial arts is a violent, violent thing.

05:06Power Slap is like a whole other level of just crazy.

05:10I saw a Power Slap competition earlier today in one of my feeds where like a guy got slapped in

05:15the mouth and it busted blood was flying everywhere out of his mouth.

05:18Like, I don't know.

05:19It just seems crazy just putting your arms behind your back, holding onto this thing, somebody slapping you in the

05:24face so hard it literally knocks people out.

05:27If that's your thing, more power to you.

05:28I mean, I'm not going to lie.

05:29I've seen some of it.

05:31If anybody watched the wrestling documentary on Netflix, I figure what it's called.

05:35The one about OVW, the young lady who's a female wrestler down there.

05:38She does Power Slap sometimes now and she got knocked out in her first match.

05:42I thought it was hilarious.

05:43But, you know, it definitely has an audience.

05:46I just, again, I just hope people understand the risks they're taking when they're getting into stuff like this.

05:51Because this is violence for no other reason but just to be violent.

05:56Speaking of violence and UFC slash wrestling related stuff, Gable Steveson, 12 second knockout at UFC 331.

06:05His record falls to 4-1 against us.

06:07I always screw up names.

06:09Sean Sharaf.

06:11Look, going into this, his opponent had been trash talking about his 2019 accusations about misconduct and things of that

06:18nature.

06:18There was clearly no bad, there was so much bad blood between these two.

06:22There was no chance this was going to be a pleasant experience.

06:25I did not expect Gable Steveson to get knocked out in 12 seconds.

06:28But here's the thing, if you watch the, not that there's much to watch, if you watch that fight, Gable

06:34Steveson has been very successful when he starts a match and he immediately is shooting the leg.

06:38Immediately he's going for ground game, ground and pound, getting on top of guys and pummeling them using his amateur

06:44experience.

06:44This is a guy who's a gold medalist wrestler.

06:47This is a guy who's a multiple time all-American wrestler in college.

06:51Like this is, this is not just some slouch, but the thing is, what he's great at is the ground

06:57stuff.

06:58This fight, it's like he did like one kick to the leg and then within seconds, this guy popped him

07:02in the face and it was over.

07:04And I'm wondering, where do they take it from here?

07:08How long can you keep this guy as a premium star on a UFC pay-per-view?

07:13You know, UFC 331, that's a big show when he's somebody who's getting smacked around like this in 12 seconds.

07:19Like that, people expected so much more than that.

07:21And look, I get it.

07:22There have been other knockouts from huge major stars in UFC and they've come back and had more eventful careers

07:28later on after that and recovered quite well.

07:29I just don't know if he's got the killer instinct in him.

07:32And another report came out this week where they were talking about how he was backstage.

07:36And Trevor Lee is somebody who got to work a lot of dark matches with him and house shows with

07:41him.

07:42And Dave Meltzer was reporting how he thinks Trevor Lee is a phenomenal talent.

07:46I couldn't agree more.

07:47But that like the reputation that Gable Steveson had created backstage, his unwillingness to do certain moves or certain spots,

07:57talking to talent like he knew the business better than they did.

08:00He just sounds like he rubbed people the wrong way.

08:03And I just wish this guy would figure out what he's doing with his life.

08:06And combat sports, wrestling, amateur wrestling, all these things.

08:10Is he going for the Olympics, you know, in 2020 or whatever?

08:14I don't know.

08:15I just, it seems like he's snake bit and he was doing great with the amateur wrestling thing.

08:19And then once he hit wrestling, professional wrestling, everything seems to be more challenging.

08:23Tried football.

08:24That didn't work out with the Buffalo Bills.

08:26Look, he's four and one.

08:27So obviously his career is not over in UFC.

08:30I just question whether he belongs on a pay-per-view card and not a smaller card.

08:34I don't know if this is indeed the quality of fighter he is at this point.

08:37Now, if you're going to get him the matches and if he's going to stick to what he's good at,

08:41he may have a future.

08:42I just don't know how sustainable that is in a sport where there's so much stand-up and fist throwing

08:48and everything else.

08:49Especially once you get knocked out that first time.

08:51It's got to do something to your psyche.

08:52It's got to get in your head.

08:53And I don't know how he sheds that.

08:54And one more thing for tonight.

08:56I found this wildly interesting.

08:58This came out on a post about Ricky the Dragon Steamboat and Ric Flair.

09:03That when Ric Flair was negotiating for Ric Flair's last match, that he had a proposal on the table for

09:08Ricky the Dragon Steamboat for a six-man tag team match.

09:12That would have featured Ric Flair and FTR from AEW taking on Ricky the Dragon Steamboat and the Rock and

09:18Roll Express.

09:19Now, if you didn't know, Ricky Steamboat did end up having a last match after Ric Flair's last match where

09:25he teamed with FTR to take on, oh gosh, I'm trying to think here, Brock Anderson, Nick Aldis, and somebody

09:32else.

09:32I'm drawing a blank.

09:33I apologize.

09:35So he did wrestle.

09:36But the word coming out now, this report that I have here, is all about the fact that Conrad Thompson,

09:41he had asked for such an exorbitant amount of money to have the match with Flair.

09:46And somebody compared it to the cost of a new truck and not a used one on a used car

09:50lot, like a new truck, which is tens of thousands of dollars.

09:54And that Conrad had not necessarily said no to that, but he got frustrated because apparently Ricky Steamboat was sharing

10:01that information online, and he felt like he didn't want people to know about their negotiations.

10:06He didn't want people to know about the kind of money things were going to cost.

10:08This was supposed to be a special event for Ric Flair and whatnot.

10:11It did not happen.

10:12It ended up falling through.

10:14And now, after the fact, the conversation is, oh, he was concerned about his health and his well-being and

10:19physical limitations and things like that, which I find interesting considering the fact that he wrestled a few months later

10:24in that other match with FTR.

10:26So I don't know.

10:27I don't know how I would feel about this stuff.

10:30If he was asking for far too much money, that's a little shocking to me.

10:34It's really a shame because we could have had one last time of Ric Flair and Ricky Steamboat in the

10:38ring.

10:39We ended up having what we had, and I'm not complaining about it because at least it got Ric Flair

10:43done.

10:43And I know a lot of people hate the match, but there was enough done in the match that I

10:49was hoping he'd get it out of his system, even though he flirts with the idea of doing some more

10:52stuff now.

10:54But I really would have loved it if Ricky Steamboat was there, and I still think Steamboat can go.

10:58I really do.

10:59That match with FTR, I've seen it.

11:01It's on YouTube.

11:01You can pull it up and find it.

11:03It's good stuff.

11:04Steamboat still can move, especially at that advanced age.

11:07So, I don't know, just kind of wonder what could have been.

11:10Could we have seen one more throwback to Ricky and Rick at that last match?

11:14But we're not going to get a chance to see that.
