00:17joint declaration despite sharp diplomatic tensions over regional conflicts.

00:29Good evening from New Delhi, capital of India, where the 18th summit of the BRICS has finished.
00:38The leaders, the heads of state have returned to their home countries after having their
00:44last meeting on Sunday, on the second day of the summit.
00:49But that was the meeting of the BRICS Plus or outreach meeting, where the 11 members
00:55came together with the 10 partner countries of the BRICS Alliance to discuss how to implement
01:02the final declaration of yesterday and how to advance further cooperation with each other.
01:11In that reunion, in that meeting, the Chinese President Xi Jinping made an important statement.
01:17He said the greater BRICS, referring to BRICS members, BRICS partners and others interested
01:24in the alliance could create an internal market, an integrated market.
01:30And he also called that these greater BRICS can work together to protect supply chains, transport
01:38corridors, and transport corridors. Xi Jinping also had indicated yesterday that BRICS would
01:43take a bigger role in resolving the conflict in West Asia around the attack on Iran.
01:50So this is an important message given by the Chinese President, who said that this greater
01:55BRICS can also work together in respect to artificial intelligence, digital economy, manufacturing, science,
02:03and development as well. The Russian President Vladimir Putin also held a speech.
02:09He said that the Global South needs to establish an insurance mechanism against sanctions which
02:17target his country, but also Iran. The Iranian President Mesut Pezheşkin yesterday had also
02:23made a similar proposal. Putin says he did not go into details, but he said that this mechanism
02:30needs to protect the countries from the damages caused by sanctions. This is a clear reference
02:36to long ongoing discussions about establishing payment systems independent from SWIFT and from
02:43the U.S. dollar. Work is continuing on that. Putin also said that the Global South needs to establish
02:49its own global governance structures against traditional and non-traditional threats, referring to the fact that
02:58his country is under Western-supported attack in Ukraine, while, for instance, Iran is also under attack, and other
03:06countries are being targeted by threats as well. Narendra Modi held a speech, the closing speech, as the
03:15inviting country to the summit, and he said that the BRICS has to turn up the global power structure, which
03:22he compared to a
03:23pyramid, where very few on top of it take the decision, and the Global South has to apply it, has
03:29to obey, and he
03:31said that the Global South has to convert from rules followers to rules shapers. And he warned that the BRICS
03:40alliance
03:41needs to become a more implementing alliance, that decisions need to be implemented time-sensibly, in a planned manner, and
03:51with real impact in the
03:53real life of their citizens. India has proposed a very society-centric integration of BRICS, business-to-business,
04:03society-to-society, and not only on the government level, an idea which is supported also by other members such
04:11as
04:11South Africa. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa mentioned that it is a success to have been able to present the
04:19final declaration due to different positions regarding the attack on Iran. The United Arab Emirates are a
04:26member of the BRICS. They are on the opposing camp, while Iran is obviously the victim here and is also
04:34a member.
04:35But still, it was able to find the consensus between all the members and even possible to get the leaders
04:41of the
04:42two countries to sit at the same table first time since the conflict started here in New Delhi. What concrete
04:49results
04:50that will bring that remains to see. But it is an important diplomatic move, achievement, mainly considered as a result
04:58of the work of the Indian Presidency. Now, with this, the Indian Presidency finishes with this summit and the
