00:00I like myself some tuna, canned tuna. It stinks the place up.
00:03Are you eating the canned tuna?
00:04Yeah!
00:05Is that you?
00:05That's me.
00:06If you're ever on a tour bus, just don't put any solids in it. Definitely don't poop in it.
00:40Yo, what's up? Come on in. Well, this is the bus. This is where we live on the road.
00:48So we are just wrapping up the Victory Garden Tour in North America. We're taking it to
00:52Europe at the end of the year, but we've done 40 shows so far. So today is show 41. We
00:58just
00:59released show 42. Today is show 42. And yeah, we released a new album on May 1st called Victory
01:08Garden. And we're going to show you around the bus. And the dudes are here. So this is Francois.
01:13Hello.
01:15This is Eric. And that's fun.
01:19So these two TVs are kind of just a fixture. We like to have some pretty landscapes going.
01:26We did some World Cup viewing earlier in the tour. We kind of have a tradition on tour.
01:35We haven't done yet. Maybe we'll pull it out in these last couple of days of watching Popstar,
01:40the Andy Samberg one. Just getting everyone set up here on the drive and watching that. But honestly,
01:48not getting a ton of use out of these this time around. Yeah. It used to be, it's kind of
01:54been a steady,
01:55either the way, wherever you look at it, incline or decline. When we first started on a bus, it was
02:00a party bus. It was like,
02:01we'd have friends in here. There'd be just like shenanigans going on. And, you know,
02:06obviously watching some movies. We'd watch some TVs. We'd watch The Wire, South Park, Key and Peele,
02:12very of a time. And as it's progressed, the bus has just become more of like a Zen place for
02:17us.
02:18It's pretty mellow. You're not going to find anyone else really in here other than the band.
02:22And Lloyd, our tour manager for an house, and Lizzie, our ATM.
02:27So this is one of two buses that we have taken out. There's also, you know, Colder Kids has their
02:32bus,
02:32but this is just for the band. We've been doing it this way for a while. It used to be
02:39like a frat house,
02:40and now it's become more of a monastery. The crew bus is actually the bus that the hijinks happen on.
02:48We kind of just, you finish the show, it's like already kind of late, really just come here,
02:53have a bite to eat, decompress. The adrenaline is still like flowing from the show,
02:57so this is a good place to try and, you know, catch your breath and get ready for bed.
03:03We kind of have this water jug system here. You know, in tours past, we partnered up with companies like
03:10Reverb
03:11to try and make tour as, you know, carbon neutral as possible. So we just do what we can.
03:17I mean, we don't, we really try and limit any use of plastics in water bottles.
03:20We just have thermoses and we try and fill up this way. It's usually the easiest thing.
03:24And a tip for any of you who, you know, not really slept on a bus before,
03:28do not use that water to brush your teeth with. Don't. Use that.
03:33Okay, well, there's all sorts of crazy shit in here. So now, I mean, we're like getting a little older
03:38now,
03:38so like we need to get some of the, we have some of the, the swole stuff here. We have
03:42the creatines.
03:44Some protein bars. And I like myself some tuna, canned tuna. It stinks the place up.
03:49Are you eating the canned tuna? Yeah. Is that you? That's me. That's me.
03:54What are you doing? Let's see what else, what else we got in here.
03:57These are like ridiculously small and shallow, like little things. There's really not much.
04:02It's just kind of shoes. Yeah. These are kind of just for decor, really.
04:07What else have we got in here? Some more snacks. Nothing too crazy here.
04:13Got some peanut butter, some macadamia nuts. And then like, you know, we have family and friends who give us
04:18stuff.
04:18So we'll have like cakes and lots of cookies. Yeah. I got some goodies, some family goodies in the fridge.
04:25If you want to have a look. Let's see. So the fridge is like pretty much exclusively beverages,
04:32but I do have a can of homemade raspberry preserves that my grandma made that she, she gave me when
04:40we played in Toronto.
04:41And then my aunt, cause I'm Canadian. Um, my aunt brought me some maple butter.
04:50And, um, this is called Tire. It's like you melt it down and then you put it over snow and
04:56you kind of like twist it over like a popsicle stick.
04:59And it's just absolutely delicious. Maple taffy, I guess, is the English term for it.
05:06But Tire means to pull in French. So I got some, some good like Canadian goodies in here.
05:11And then otherwise, yeah, it's just like drinks and leftover after show and some Del Taco hot sauces that I'm
05:19going to be taking home.
05:21We have, keeping it in the, in the theme, clearly Canadian, um, which is always a treat.
05:27We have, I've been drinking root beer a lot. Like I love having root beer on stage. So we keep
05:34some pretty good ones.
05:35That's just like beer. I don't know who's drinking White Claws. I don't ever see anyone drinking White Claws.
05:41So I'm not sure who those belong to. Yeah. Mostly coffee.
05:46Uh, I think someone was making Bloody Marys at some point. We make like protein smoothies.
05:51So we have almond milk and oat milk. Um, the guys like wine.
05:55So we've got at any given time, you know, some, some beers and some wines in here.
05:59We don't really do, don't really mess with the liquor so much anymore. So yeah, it's pretty straightforward. Let's see.
06:06Um, this is, yeah. So again, for smoothies, um, people keep forgetting that this is the freezer and throwing beers
06:16in here.
06:16And then they keep shattering. Um, so that's been a fun thing. And then this, ah, this one's totally empty.
06:22I don't even know what temperature it's supposed to be at.
06:25To be fair, um, this is the fourth bus we've been on on this tour. We've had some kind of
06:30issues.
06:31We got in kind of a bit of an accident getting into Manhattan and the top of our bus just
06:36scraped completely under an overpass.
06:39So, um, we've had to move a lot of buses. So it's kind of like, it's not super situated, even
06:43though we've been on tour since mid-May. So.
06:47That was scary. That was the first time it's ever happened. We were all sitting in the front lounge.
06:51And it was the day before the next championship parade. So they had shut down basically any, you know, convenient
06:58way to get into the city.
06:59And so we took FDR and I guess there was some sort of issue with, ah, clearance.
07:05So all of a sudden the whole bus just went . And it tore off all of the air conditioning
07:11units.
07:12Which is a shame because it was a really, really nice bus. Ah, this one's really nice too.
07:16But it's, yeah, we've been playing like musical chairs with the buses on, on this run a little bit.
07:21So, last night in Minneapolis, um, the Cold War Kids guys introduced us to some of the people
07:29from Settlers of Catan, ah, which is, I guess they know the people who work there.
07:34And they came out as guests of the show and they brought us gifts.
07:37So we started playing Settlers of Catan a long time ago in the early days as band.
07:42We used to live with one another in multiple houses, first and second record.
07:46Ah, so we would, when we were not writing music and hanging out, sometimes we would be playing Settlers of
07:50Catan.
07:50But they gifted us these. It's called Catan on the Road.
07:56And, um, it's basically the card version that you can play in 15 minutes, which is nice.
08:01And this is the first time we're trying to set it up. So Eric and I are trying to read
08:06the rules.
08:06And if you know Catan, you know that explaining the board game to someone is like the worst thing ever.
08:12Um, but playing is really fun once everyone knows. So we're going to give it a shot. See what happens.
08:17Like any good bus, there's a toilet. Um, and I'm sure for fans of the show, you know the rules.
08:26No, no solids, no poops, no toilet paper, nothing like that. It's strictly for pee.
08:32Um, and I'm a, I'm a pretty like calm, non-confrontational person.
08:39Probably the time I've lost my mind the most on someone and really crashed out was this random dude was
08:45on our bus in Nashville after the show.
08:48We were all, you know, tired. We'd been out for a couple months.
08:51I told him, like I tell everyone, no solids.
08:54He came out immediately. He's like, Hey, I think your toilet's broken.
08:57And I just went in there and he had put like a wad of toilet paper.
09:02And I'm like, I just told you not to do that because you didn't tell me that.
09:06And I unloaded on him and I actually made him to put his hand in it and pull this wad
09:14of like pee covered toilet paper.
09:17And then I just like, get off the bus, get the fuck out of here.
09:20And like, that's so not me.
09:22Um, but it's a, it's a really important rule.
09:26Cause this is like, you know, there's six of us on here.
09:28Um, this goes down, we're in kind of dire straits.
09:33Uh, so if you're ever on a tour bus, just don't put any solids in it.
09:37Definitely don't poop in it.
09:39It's true.
09:40There's a shower in there too, which is nice.
09:43I used to shower the first tours.
09:45I used to shower in there pretty much every night.
09:47And then all of a sudden I was like, felt, I was told it was gross,
09:51but, um, I'm gonna, I think I'm gonna do it tonight.
09:53I think we all are.
09:54While the bus is moving.
09:55While the bus is moving.
09:56It's actually more fun.
09:57So these are the bunks.
09:59Um, as you guys know, um, because we have two buses,
10:04one for the crew and one for the band,
10:06uh, we have condo bunks, which is luxury.
10:08This is my bunk.
10:09We get to sit up in our bunks.
10:11Uh, you see, um, our guitarist Jake is in there.
10:14Demonstrating.
10:15Demonstrating how to, to sleep.
10:17Um, and so it's been great.
10:19I mean, we usually try and keep this pretty clean.
10:21Like these days it's, you know, it's, it's a sad state of affairs.
10:24It's very clean and nice.
10:25We have our own bedding and shit.
10:27Uh, but it was funny.
10:29Back in the day we used to do a lot of pranks.
10:31And, um, so Fran had found a block of brie cheese
10:36and he put it under my pillow.
10:40And that first night, before I went to bed, I noticed it.
10:44And I was like, this is Fran.
10:45Cause it would have been a whole tour of just pranks.
10:47So I took the debris and I put it under the fitted sheet.
10:51So he wouldn't find it.
10:52And it lived in his bunk for almost three weeks.
10:56I don't know if it was three weeks.
10:58It was long enough that I woke up one day
11:00and my face was covered in something really like gelatinous and smelly.
11:05And I was like, did I vomit on myself in the middle of the night?
11:10And I realized, yeah, it was, I mean, it was, it had been in there for a while.
11:14And that, from that day forth, we were like, okay, shared space.
11:18Let's, we're going to cool it on the pranks.
11:20Uh, cause it was, it was really, really gross.
11:23Um, and I, I got the, he got the better of me than that one.
11:26So I still, I still hold it against it.
11:29As you can see, we have our name tags on here.
11:31Just in case we are too drunk and we forget.
11:34Just in case we forget.
11:34This is our junk bunk.
11:36You know, put all the random stuff in there.
11:37Some fluff and fold back.
11:39You know, sometimes you can't do laundry, you have to do the fluff and fold.
11:42Yeah.
11:43That's just my.
11:44This is my bunk.
11:45Um, you know, you get the chance to kind of like make it your own little home.
11:49So I got pictures of my, my family, my kiddies.
11:53Um, I do spend a lot of time in my bunk on this type of tour.
11:59You kind of get a whole variety of like backstages.
12:02Some of them are, are really nice, you know, great facilities.
12:06Some of them are terrible.
12:08And so for the terrible ones, I just like watch movies in here.
12:13I have my steam deck.
12:16I'm playing red dead redemption, which is like a comfort game for me.
12:21Oddly enough, I just like to ride my horse around.
12:23Um, but yeah, it's just, you know, you spend a lot of time in here.
12:27So yeah, like a nice, nice pillow.
12:29Everyone's got their own sheets.
12:31Um, and it's, it's a nice place to just sort of rest your nervous system.
12:38So you play in front of a lot of people every night.
12:40It's like all high octane and stuff.
12:42And as I get older, I appreciate the time to decompress more and more.
12:47All right.
12:47Here's the back lounge.
12:49So another one of those things where back in the day, this was kind of like the smoking commune.
12:56And we'd have like a different paraphernalia and you know, have some J's flown about and some volcanoes and all
13:03that stuff.
13:04And it'd be, we'd be hanging out here watching movies, playing video games.
13:07Playing dice.
13:08Playing dice, playing Lodi.
13:09Um, and now it's just kind of like maybe the quiet space.
13:12You know, usually when you're on tour and you are still driving, sometimes the drive is really long.
13:17You don't get into the city until like 10 or 11.
13:19You need to get on the phone, you know, catch up with your partner, catch up with your family.
13:22Like this is kind of like the most private space that you can go, close it up, you can lock
13:27it, lock it.
13:28And we've had people get locked in here before, but, um, it's usually manageable.
13:32It's basically that room from real world where like people go and talk to their family and just dish on
13:40like,
13:41Ugh, I messed up last night. I played the wrong note and I was so frustrated.
13:47Or Samir put a block of cheese in my fucking bed.
13:50Something like that.
13:51Um, we do have guitars and stuff back here.
13:54So, you know, if anyone wants to work on writing or running stuff for the set, um, we're gonna try
14:00a song we haven't done in a while.
14:02You know, it's a good place to do little mini rehearsals.
14:05Um, but yeah, it's, it's like most of the bus over the course of our career.
14:11It's gone from, I mean like the, I have books for my, my kids back here.
14:17So it's just, it's, it's definitely more tame, um, than it was like 10 years ago where it felt a
14:24little bit like, uh, a dive bar.
14:27Um, and now it's just like a calm, calm little spot.
14:30Yeah. This is also a place where, yeah, like we kind of, each one of us has like a mobile
14:35recording studio.
14:36So we have them in the bays underneath.
14:39We'll take them out to the hotel room sometimes or sometimes, you know, Fran's been doing a lot of scoring
14:43work.
14:43So he'll maybe sneak to the back over here or up front there.
14:47Um, and this lounge unfortunately doesn't have a desk.
14:51So it kind of makes it less, you know, available to be able to do stuff like that.
14:55Um, fortunately the front lounge has two, two desks.
14:58So you often see people like just, you know, on logic or on Ableton or just kind of doing some
15:04general stuff.
15:05Um, getting things done.
15:06So this has been a tour of our tour bus.
15:09This is through Young the Giant.
15:11Um, we just finished up, or finishing up the Victory Garden tour through North America.
15:16Um, check out tour dates and merch on youngthegiant.com.
15:21We'll be out on tour essentially the rest of the year and next year kind of internationally and in the
15:26States doing festivals.
15:27It's just the beginning of, uh, the album's release.
15:30So, uh, we hope to see you out there.
15:33Alright.
15:33Yeah, you gotta, you gotta get out.
15:34You're not gonna make out back here.
15:38Uh...
15:38Uh-uh-huh.
15:40Uh-uh-uh.
15:41Uh, you gotta crash off the roster.
16:12You
16:38You
16:45Okay, so I'm gonna I'm gonna play I'm gonna build a road, okay, right?
16:50So then I grab it from here, I think, and then I put it here
16:55So a quick update on the tan on the go. I don't know what the hell's going on, but we're
17:00having fun
17:00It's here. I put the yeah, yeah, okay, and then I can still build so I have a road
17:07So I'm gonna build another road
17:10I think
17:11And the settlement because you can do multiple actions, right? Like if you have the resources and the settlement, okay?
17:17So now my turn is over and now you can go
17:19Okay, I have no idea. Yes, we got this. So if I pick a resource card my turns over
17:26You start I start by you harvest phase
17:28So you start with picking a card from here, and I pick a card and now and now you can
17:33trade or build
17:33All right, and also this needs to be a three-player's minimum, so we're already doing it wrong, right?
17:38Yeah, so I can put down my settlement and I wrote already. I think so, right? Yeah, and my settlement
17:49Where do we put our resources?
17:51I don't know
17:53Do you have a wood? Is it a draw? No, I
17:55We don't have a wood
17:57Hell yeah
17:58That's the real real kicker is playing this katan music on YouTube
18:02It's our first time playing the card version and we're still figuring it out. I don't think you can play
18:07with two players
18:08But if anyone has been able to figure this out with two players, please let us know in the comments
18:13because that would be dope
