00:00Josh Hines-Allens talked about, it feels like we got a guarantee from him about this Browns-Jacks game.
00:07The last time you went against an offense led by Todd Munkin, it was 2023 against Baltimore.
00:11They had over 250 yards on the ground.
00:14Are you expecting that play style to translate over to Cleveland as well?
00:17It's not going to happen.
00:20Our model is to stop the run, so by any means, they're not running the ball that much on us.
00:26So, I expect, you know, coming out and running the ball, I think, you know, his philosophy of how he
00:30sees the game, yes, I expect that.
00:32But 230 yards, that's not happening.
00:36So, respectfully.
00:38Now, I would like to know, and maybe if Todd Munkin just chops off that respectfully, can Todd Munkin of
00:44the Browns churn this into some high-quality bulletin board material?
00:48Maybe.
00:49Honestly, I think it's more of a shot at Munkin than it is anything else.
00:52But what's interesting, I mean, Munkin still gets the last laugh out of that.
00:55The game he's referencing was 2023.
00:56That was his first season as Baltimore's OC.
00:59They ran for 251 yards, but Munkin ran the ball 42 times.
01:03All he did was run the ball that game.
01:04And he basically dared Jacksonville to stop the run.
01:07We've already posited about this weekend whether or not that would be one of the Browns' formulas to try to
01:12win this game.
01:12And if he thinks Jacksonville's weak against the run based off of a game that happened three years ago, maybe
01:18he'd go back to that well.
01:19Yeah, I mean, I think the Browns, no matter who the quarterback is, but certainly if it's a game-changing,
01:25sorry, game-changing, a game-managing Deshaun Watson, I think a healthy dose of the run game makes a lot
01:32of sense.
01:33Well, but so the problem within this is that, you know, obviously anytime you talk about the Ravens, you're like,
01:37all right, so what did Lamar do, though?
01:39Lamar had 12 carries in that game for just under 100 yards.
01:42Lamar was wildly effective with his run game.
01:45As part of the plan with Deshaun, he's talked about using his legs and being able to use that part
01:49of this.
01:50Is he going to try to do anything like he did with Lamar, or is he just going to admit
01:53that can't happen here?
01:54No, I mean, I think that's, I actually think that's a significant part of why Todd Munkin needs to see
02:00Deshaun Watson first, is he thinks he can get something out of the ground game.
02:04And it's interesting because I tend to agree with what Zach Jackson said with the Monoboys earlier this week, actually
02:10yesterday.
02:11If you guys want to go back and listen to that, which is, I don't think that Deshaun Watson has
02:16the Jets he had early in his career.
02:18And honestly, I think if you watch him move in the pocket, I can't tell.
02:22Now, this is where I'll be fair to Deshaun.
02:24I can't tell if he looks a step slower because he doesn't have pocket awareness.
02:29When the pocket breaks down, he's looking for an angle to go to.
02:33And so he just has never gotten to open space to showcase his legs or whether he just doesn't have
02:40them.
02:40I lean towards he doesn't have.
02:41Or the injuries just overtook him.
02:43That's what I lean towards.
02:44Seems more plausible, seems more likely.
02:46But Todd Munkin is seeing something that I'm not seeing in practice every day.
02:51So I'll leave wiggle room for the idea of, well, he sees him every day.
02:55Maybe he's seeing a giddy up gear that, again, I don't know it exists anymore.
03:00We should also acknowledge Jacksonville's run defense is much better, obviously, than it was three years ago when that game
03:05happened.
03:06But it's just much better in general.
03:07It's one of the things they kind of thrive in.
03:08And so I'm interested to find out if your only response is going to be, well, we're going to run
03:14the ball like crazy.
03:15And we're going to make sure we just, Quinshawn is great.
03:18The offensive line showcases what it can do.
03:20We showcase what it can do against Deshaun.
03:22You're kind of playing.
03:24It's so interesting.
03:25There's like seven different ways you can play into Jacksonville's hands in this game.
03:28I would imagine they want Deshaun to throw the ball because they think Deshaun still can't throw the ball.
03:32But they feast.
03:33That run defense is really, really good.
03:35They feast when teams try to run.
03:37So I think that's where the Deshaun part of this comes down and where, again, I can see the hypothetical
03:46idea of, all right, if you can stop or bottle up Quinshawn Judkins,
03:51and two things Deshaun can do is deliver an on-time ball to Casey Concepcion at seven yards and a
03:57slant,
03:58and then Casey can do the heavy playmaking lifting, and then the other side that Deshaun has is one, two,
04:05all right, nothing here.
04:06I'm going to get 10 yards.
04:07I can understand how those could be secret weapons in this matchup, given everything you've said and everything we know
04:13about the Jacksonville defense.
04:15Again, I'm skeptical that Deshaun can do those things.
04:18But I can at least understand, like, part of my frustration is, big picture, I'm trying to figure out how
04:24Deshaun does it.
04:25In this matchup, I can see what I think Todd Munkin sees.
04:29And if you use pace, which is another way I think they're going to try, I think it was Nate
04:32Tice is big on pace is going to be huge this year for offenses.
04:37I could see that as part of that as well.
04:39Oh, from the NBA to the NFL, pace, the conversation nobody wants to have, but everyone's seemingly having.
04:44I feel like we're going right back to Chip Kelly's Oregon offense from, like, 15 years ago.
04:48Yeah.
04:49And then Belichick mimicked it.
04:51Stuff Howie Roseman in the locker while we're at it.
04:52And then all of a sudden pace didn't matter, and we're right circling back to pace matters.
04:58Now, for the 75 millionth time, the NFL is cyclical, Nick.
05:01What goes around comes around.
05:03All right, great.
05:04Even down to the defensive conversations we're having and everything.
05:06Like, the quarters coverage conversation has existed in the NFL for, like, six years now,
05:12and people every single offseason are like, they figured it out.
05:15They know how to stop these guys.
05:16No, they don't yet.
05:17You know what you have to do?
05:18They don't.
05:18Yeah, bracket coverage.
05:20Yeah.
05:21Yeah.
05:21Right?
05:21Yeah.
05:22This guy's a really good wide receiver.
05:23Have you tried bracket coverage?
05:25It's just so ridiculous.
05:26I've also played Madden.
05:27Yeah.
05:29216-474-0092.
05:32Josh Hines Allen.
05:34Can we say guarantees?
05:36Well, I guarantee that they won't look like they did four years ago against Lamar Jackson.
05:41Given the unknown, what would have a bigger impact on how you think of the Browns beating
05:47Jacksonville or losing badly?
05:49It's got to be beating Jacksonville.
05:50I know week one, everyone's going to be like, well, week one is weird and games get sloppy,
05:55but you beat a team in Jacksonville that won 13 games last year, and I think there's a
05:59lot of people that'd be leaving that game thinking to themselves, then, all right, we should,
06:03there's a lot of easier games on this schedule that we should win, but then you're in play
06:07for some of the harder games as well.
06:08All of a sudden, then Tampa Bay in week two doesn't feel like a Herculean effort.
06:12Yeah.
06:13I think it's just drastically different between a loss that I think a lot of people could see
06:16coming.
06:16It's how you win is going to matter and how Jacksonville plays in this is going to matter,
06:21but I think what's interesting is I'm in this spot of I've locked in a Jacksonville week
06:26one victory, and some of that is the unknown.
06:29Some of that is I think the Browns are, I think people are acting as if all of those unknowns
06:34are going to come up bust week one.
06:37There's one unknown I think that's going to potentially come up bust week one, and it's
06:41Deshaun Watson.
06:42Beyond that, I'm just genuinely excited to see everything else, but I also think a lot
06:51of it is Jacksonville's defense was so reliant on turnovers last year, and we've seen this,
06:57the one Joe Woods defense that was good was freakishly good at generating turnovers, and
07:05we saw how quickly that regresses.
07:07I know some teams can keep it up, but by the way, the Bears defense was also really good
07:11that last year, too.
07:11The Bears defense was really good, and that always turns around.
07:14I'd have to look up what Jacksonville's numbers with turnovers were.
07:16I thought that, oddly enough, that was one of the things.
07:18They had them, but they didn't have them at the rate where then it was such an absurd discrepancy.
07:23Barnwell's always big on this, of the idea that turnover margin in general typically comes
07:30back down to earth, and that is not a thing.
07:31If you have an absurd one-sided turnover margin, that's going to hit you in the face in a pretty
07:37large way.
07:37I thought Jacksonville was immune to that relative to what they did last year.
07:41In fairness, nobody looks as off the charts as the Bears do, because you compare anything
07:46to the Bears, and it's going to look silly.
07:48The Bears has dominated that.
07:49But I don't know.
07:51I think losing badly, maybe it's because I think the Browns are going to be good, but
07:55my guy Chip sent in earlier today, and I think Chip has been trying to keep me grounded.
08:01He keeps telling me how down he is in this Browns team, and I get it.
08:06I understand that it's hard for people to compartmentalize their dislike, distrust, disinterest
08:11in Deshaun Watson with how they feel about the rest of the team.
08:15We've talked about that a few times.
08:17I can do that.
08:18I think you can win in spite of Deshaun in the short term.
08:22Eventually, I think you're going to have to get over to Shador or Dylan or hell, anybody.
08:26Jameis Winston, if you want to trade for him.
08:29I know he just signed an extension.
08:30I'm just being facetious.
08:31Or hyperbolic.
08:32That's the one, but yeah, I mean, I think them losing, Chip has them losing 34 to 10.
08:39I would be shocked.
08:41I would be crestfallen.
08:43It would force me to.
08:44Oh, geez.
08:44I wouldn't be shocked.
08:4534 to 10.
08:47It's a blowout, obviously.
08:48But yeah, I'm not going to leave the game being like, I can't believe that just happened.
08:52If you lose 34 to 10 and Deshaun Watson starts week two, I riot.
08:56I mean, a 24 point difference is obviously not the expected.
08:58No one's saying that I think this is going to happen, but would I be more surprised by
09:03a 34 to 10 loss than I would a 34 to 10 win?
09:07No, not at all.
09:08You win the game 34 to 10 against Jacksonville, I will be gobsmacked.
09:12You lose the game 34 to 10, I'll turn around and say, I guess a lot of people are right
09:15about Jacksonville and a lot of people are right about what they think about this Browns
09:18team currently being.
09:20216-474-0092.
09:22Which would surprise you more, a 34 to 10 loss or a 34 to 10 win?
09:26Probably the loss.
09:29Yeah, I'd be really shocked if Deshaun dominated enough and everyone was able to put up 34
09:34against Jacksonville and then be able to do their part.
09:36It's not crazy to think that the defense couldn't hold Jacksonville to 10 points.
09:41That part of it's not crazy.
09:42Well, and so you're right about the Deshaun part of this.
09:44I guess why I said that the loss would shock me more is it's just week one is kind of
09:52flukish
09:53that if you're ever going to beat this Jacksonville team 34 to 10, it would make sense that it's
09:57week one with all the unknown and having the full off season to go for it.
10:03And Todd Munkin, I think I wouldn't be surprised if Todd Munkin looks at this as a chance to
10:09tell the rest of the NFL, you know, hey, it's time to trust in Todd.
10:13I imagine that's what he's trying to do.
10:15It's just whether or not he's got the talent to be able to pull that off again.
10:17Like Jacksonville, that's a top eight scoring defense and scoring offense last year.
10:21They were going to both sides of the ball.
10:22They could do it in a million different ways.
10:24I don't know that this is going to be the ascension of Trevor Lawrence that some people
10:27are projecting.
10:28It's a really good football team though.
10:30Yeah.
10:30And I think the thing with Trevor Lawrence is it feels like he's the, he's very similar
10:36to what people perceive about Baker, which is one great year.
10:39And then a step back here.
10:41Now Baker stuff revolves around injuries as well.
10:43When even Baker though, last year could be considered a step back year, but for the first
10:46after week six, he was the front runner for league MVP.
10:49But like with Trevor Lawrence, I look at him and think, I don't know that I trust him to
10:53be good and great in consecutive seasons.
10:56And I know, I know, honestly, I probably should trust that more because I think Liam Cohen is
11:01a good coach.
11:01I think he's a, I think he's a really good coach, but I think the quarterback matters who
11:05plays, you know, like, uh, listen, I.
11:09That's why I want to put this.
11:11Cause I want to make sure I give Trevor Lawrence the respect.
11:14I don't think a great coach can make up for a quarterback.
11:18Who's just an inconsistent human being on the field.
11:20Are you can, you can help him.
11:22Sure.
11:22You can give him better situations to be in.
11:25But in the end, if you're an inconsistent quarterback, you're just an inconsistent quarterback.
11:29But there are also is that it's something we've already touched on a lot today.
11:32It feels like, but there's that environment conversation that exists for Trevor Lawrence in a way
11:36that I find interesting.
11:36They have a decent offensive line, but they have three different receivers and Parker
11:41Washington, Brian Thomas, and Jacoby Myers that, I mean, that's, that's a really, really
11:45good receiving room.
11:46Parker Washington was incredible for the final five, six games of last year.
11:50I think the problem is none of those guys have done it for a full year.
11:53I mean, Jacoby did, but I think it was about Brian Thomas had a good rookie year.
11:58Yeah.
11:58Really good rookie year.
11:59I think that was like 12 or 1300 yards is rookie season.
12:01Like if you just say, like, I do think like, and I think Brenton strange is a little underrated.
12:06I think they have four good pass catchers, but I don't think they have guys that elevate
12:10the quarterback.
12:12Well, and, and, okay.
12:13So that would be a feather in Trevor Lawrence's cap.
12:15Then like, if we're trying to figure out exactly what they are, you have us 1300 yards,
12:181282, his rookie season.
12:20He obviously dropped back a little bit last year, but like between the trio of it, if you're
12:24trying to take things away from Trevor Lawrence, his accomplishments, you would go towards the environment
12:28argument that we've been discussing and you would say it is just the three of them that are uplifting
12:32Trevor Lawrence.
12:33Cause really we haven't seen Trevor Lawrence be this, what he was last year without having
12:38that type of arsenal at his, at his disposal.
