00:00So something is starting to pick up here, and I don't like it, so I'm going to lay out.
00:07I'm going to let you and Nick do your thing.
00:08Nick's tweeting at the show.
00:10I saw that.
00:10I'm going to let you guys do your thing.
00:14Yeah, well, Nick apparently agreed with me that nobody's really earned anything, which
00:18it's fine.
00:19I keep seeing a lot of people mention, it's installs.
00:22Why would anybody forge ahead in the installs?
00:24It's like, well, you're discounting that the coaches might think somebody is ahead of the
00:29other guys based on everything.
00:31You're just seeing the throws.
00:32The coaches are in the meetings.
00:34The coaches have a lot more of the context, which is the buzzword everybody has to mention
00:39now.
00:40Oh, that needs context.
00:41That needs context.
00:42Well, you know who has all the context?
00:43The coaches.
00:44So the coaches are determining those things, and if your argument is nothing matters until
00:50installs are over, well, then I guess we shouldn't even have reporters there.
00:53We shouldn't even talk about the Browns at all.
00:55We should just move on to other things.
00:56The fact is, everything matters.
00:58Everything that they do matters, and the coaches, the front office, everybody in the organization,
01:03they're taking inventory over everything, even how guys are in meeting rooms.
01:07You know, I thought it was funny.
01:08I forgot who it was somebody was talking about.
01:10Yeah, it's nice to have a pass rusher not on their phones in the meetings.
01:15Okay?
01:16I mean, you don't think people are noticing stuff?
01:18Yes, everything matters, guys.
01:19Everything inside those walls matter, and sometimes things that happen outside those walls matter.
01:25Johnny Manziel, Josh Gordon.
01:26Like, yes, everything matters.
01:28When you were on the football team, the install dates matter.
01:32And, like, guys, like, they're working on stuff, yes.
01:34But if you're telling me guys can't shine, if nothing matters, then what do we care about Denzel Boston?
01:41What do we care about Jared Verse?
01:42Stuff matters.
01:43You can't just, because every reporter comes on here and says, ah, the quarterback play has looked bad.
01:48Well, what does it matter?
01:49It all matters.
01:50Yes, it all matters.
01:51That's part of football.
01:53That's why you have all these coaches making a lot of money that are keeping tabs on everything they see.
01:57It's what they see after the meetings, too.
01:59That's why it's awesome that Shador Sanders is working with another quarterback after practice.
02:05Great.
02:05That matters.
02:06Yes, it all matters.
02:08To Nick's point that I guess he thinks everybody in the world is incapable of judging the Browns,
02:14but we can judge every other team.
02:16What is so hard about judging the Browns?
02:18The reality is the Browns were a terrible football team last year.
02:22They've been pretty bad most of the station's existence.
02:26They might have some really good young talent.
02:29Let's see how it plays out.
02:30Remember, this was supposed to be one of the worst drafts in a while.
02:33So let's see if that ends up being true or the Browns have all these new playmakers,
02:38and let's see how it gels.
02:40Most young teams in the NFL don't win, but we have seen examples like the New England Patriots
02:45getting to the Super Bowl last year.
02:46It is considered by everybody.
02:49I'm sorry, guys.
02:50I know you don't like hearing this.
02:51Until proven otherwise, until some quarterbacks earn, not just being given credit because of
02:57dimes that we've seen in the most liberalist of sense that we're using that term now,
03:03it is a bottom five quarterback room until proven otherwise.
03:06That's what everybody thinks about your team.
03:08And so, yes, most everybody is going to think your team is going to not have a lot of wins.
03:13Greg Rosenthal had all these good things to say about the Browns yesterday when he came on,
03:16and then he said, I'd take the under for the win total.
03:20So, yeah, that's kind of the conventional wisdom by most.
03:23I don't think it's a lack of critical thinking.
03:27I'm sorry.
03:28I don't think it's critical thinking when I hear Nick reference 30 players in Rocket Sanders
03:33and say they're all great.
03:34I wouldn't hear this last week for that.
03:36Like, he's good.
03:36I like him.
03:36I like him.
03:37I like him.
03:37I like him.
03:38I like him.
03:39I like him.
03:39I like him.
03:39I like him.
03:40I like him.
03:40I like him.
03:40I like him.
03:41He just told me about that.
03:42That's not the same football team that I'm expecting to see this year.
03:46You can like a lot of players, and they still lose a lot of games also.
03:49I've said that.
03:52I didn't say that?
03:53I mean, we've had teams that have had six Pro Bowlers that have lost a lot of football
03:56games.
03:58Quarterback is kind of an important position.
04:00I hate to unveil a third wall, a fourth wall here.
04:04Well, this is the problem.
04:05I hate to be the guy that tells you quarterback's kind of important in the NFL.
04:10Well, that's why I guess I'm a little bit frustrated, because I didn't just throw Dylan
04:14Gabriel in there to get through the day.
04:17It's training camp.
04:18We got 11 days until the first preseason game.
04:19I didn't say that just so we can get by.
04:21Yeah.
04:24So I guess I'm a little bit bothered by that, but again, I just think that any actual Browns
04:31fan understands where I'm coming from.
04:32Any actual Cleveland fan understands.
04:34So I really don't.
04:36This is weird, because I'm kind of sitting here with you, and I understand what you're
04:41saying, but I'm not involved emotionally.
04:44Like, I just heard the critical thinking thing.
04:47That none of us have, apparently.
04:49Well, hold on here.
04:50Hold on.
04:51Is it just because we keep saying the same things?
04:54Is that the only reason?
04:55Because sometimes we keep saying the same things because the same things end up being true.
05:01Like, I'd love to find different reasons.
05:03Well, I think Nick would say that's not critical thinking.
05:05You're not using nuance to this specific situation.
05:08You're allowing all of the past influence what you're saying.
05:16All the bad, nightmarish scenarios that have played out.
05:19Because it's almost always been the worst, with the exception of the Joe Flacco stretch run and the COVID year.
05:25It's always been bad.
05:27Well, like, okay.
05:27Like, some people are...
05:29I saw some things on social media during a break where they were showing...
05:32There was like 132 left, and it was right before Joe Flacco completed the comeback with the Jets.
05:37Against us.
05:38Against us in week two.
05:42And I'm not referencing those bad memories.
05:44I'm not referencing the pick six in my bad...
05:46Or the kick six in my bad memories.
05:49I'm not doing that.
05:51Like, Shador wasn't part of those teams.
05:52Yeah.
05:54Deshaun Watson was for one of those years.
05:59I'm not sure.
06:00Like, you get what I'm pointing out here, though?
06:01Like, I'm not looking at the past to dwell on the future.
06:04Well, and we both...
06:05Like, I'm willing to accept Deshaun Watson as the starter based on what he's doing right now.
06:09Based on what Shador may or may not be doing right now.
06:12Now, I'd rather Shador start, but I'm willing to accept it right now because of the future.
06:16Not because of the past.
06:17We both like Todd Munkin.
06:20But let's be honest.
06:21Todd Munkin was not their first choice.
06:23I don't think he was their second choice.
06:25Like, it came around.
06:27They got Todd Munkin.
06:28I'm surprised Todd Munkin has not been a head coach in the NFL before.
06:31Well, the bad thing about it is...
06:32Took him longer than most.
06:33The bad thing about it is that...
06:35Okay, so how many...
06:36See, I don't mean to go down a different path here.
06:40Yudinski.
06:41Yudinski.
06:42Sheilhouse.
06:43Sheilhouse, yeah.
06:43And Todd Munkin.
06:45Which we know there was like...
06:46Of all three guys, there were definitely people like, you don't know if you want this job.
06:49If they could have got Harbaugh, do you think they would have been in on John Harbaugh?
06:53Yeah, why wouldn't they be?
06:54Okay, so that's what I mean.
06:56Todd Munkin...
06:57Didn't really inspire me after that speech he gave to the Giants the other day.
07:00But if Todd Munkin, the way he's being talked about by people like Nick and Jonathan is...
07:08He's Todd Munkin.
07:09He's going to...
07:09I mean, he's Todd Munkin.
07:10We haven't had Todd Munkin before.
07:11Now we have him.
07:12So now we're going to run the ball with authority as if other coaches haven't tried to do that.
07:18We have a lot of good plans about trying to elevate the offense.
07:21Hey, Kevin Stefanski, when he came here in 2020, did he not give them a little bit more of a
07:26schematic advantage than previously?
07:28But then it ended bad, and so now Kevin Stefanski was terrible, and anything is going to be an improvement.
07:34So Todd Munkin's going to wave the Munkin wand, and he's just going to fix it.
07:38Just because it's Todd Munkin, which is the words come out of our mouth.
07:40Todd Munkin, we have him.
07:42So the whole league has had a chance to have Todd Munkin for 30 years to be a head coach.
07:47I like Todd Munkin a whole bunch, but I don't think it's the right thing to say that he's just
07:52going to wave his magic wand.
07:53The only conversation I really don't want to have about Todd Munkin, honestly,
07:55and we've kind of buttressed against it a couple times, is whether or not this is one and done.
08:00I think it's kind of foolish, or excuse me, I think it's ghoulish to talk about it.
08:05We should stress, Haslam made it sound like, not that this year is a punt year.
08:09He didn't use that term.
08:10People have taken that away as a meaning of this year,
08:14because he focused more on 2027 in his statement about when his expectations are going to change.
08:20But it kind of did sound like the owner is wanting to be open-minded about this season.
08:30Yeah.
08:30That's one thing to say that in August.
08:33We'll see what that sounds like in December.
08:35Well, listen, I'm not going to sit there and I didn't hear, I heard that clip.
08:39I didn't hear any of the rest of it.
08:41So I'm not trying to not work with you on this, but I, we all want the Bronzes to do
08:47well,
08:47so I don't want to sit there and go rip it on Nick.
08:49I know that Nick's like getting worked up on social media with you.
08:51And if he wants to call in and go after you, that's perfectly fine.
08:54Again, I'll lay out.
08:55That's, that's fine.
08:56I want this all to be figured out.
08:58I mean, it sounds like me and you agree on all of this.
09:01I mean, I don't think there's a major disagreement between the two of us.
09:04I think that recognizing that the Browns quarterback situation is...
09:08A big impediment until proven otherwise.
09:10Yes.
09:10I don't think that that's a lack of critical thinking.
09:12I don't think that the, if I, if I wind myself up as a, as a pool doll,
09:17and say, yeah, the quarterback, the quarterback room is questionable at best.
09:22The offensive line is questionable at best because you have new guys and rookies in there
09:25playing alongside of each other.
09:27That's something I've said before.
09:29I got a first year, 60 year old head coach.
09:31Who's probably going to be more prone to play the vet.
09:33That to me, that's not a lack of critical thinking.
09:36I'm willing to move.
09:37Like I didn't just set my standard.
09:39And then that's the only thing.
09:40And I'm going to try to find ways to break that in.
09:43If, if the offensive line plays well,
09:45I will be dramatically relieved and be very excited about that.
09:48Same thing with quarterbacks.
09:49Same thing with a lot of different things.
09:50Like I, you have the right to change and I've still have stayed steadfast.
09:54I do not think they're going to win many games.
09:56I think they're going to win six games this year,
09:57but I also think they have really set the foundation and you can record me on
10:01this.
10:01Cause now I'm getting kind of pissed is that I think that yes,
10:04they have set the foundation that if they can find the right guy at that
10:07position, which is a big if for everything,
10:09but I do think that they have the foundation there that they could be a
10:13playoff team in two years there, I said, I think that's, by the way,
10:16that's how the NFL set up.
10:17And if you're bad for a few years and you have a bunch of good draft picks
10:21and you have multiple firsts in multiple years,
10:24the league is set up for you to turn it around.
10:26Let me walk it back.
10:27It's not that they can be cause that's pussyfooting around the situation.
10:31It's that they will be, and they should be.
10:34They have the makings with this young talent that they've had.
10:37I've given Andrew Barry a lot of leeway.
10:39I've come back around on Andrew Barry.
10:41I told you I was not a Paul DeBadesta guy.
10:43You got everybody in their brother who's around the NFL and around the game
10:46of football telling me that he,
10:47if you want to speak about impediments that he might've been an impediment
10:49for Andrew fine, let's wipe the slate.
10:51Mostly clean.
10:52Can't do it with it with a Deshaun Watson altogether.
10:54Cause we know that story.
10:56So I'll race part of it,
10:57but I can't erase all of it because that's a pretty big part of the slate.
11:00But let me point this out.
11:01They have the type of foundation that the next move for quarterback will and
11:07should write the entire story on Andrew Barry.
11:11Okay.
11:12And they should based on this talent that I see in some of the young guys
11:16here,
11:16they should be a playoff team by the year before they go into the new stadium
11:22by 2028.
11:23And they will be if they make that right decision or one of these guys go in.
11:28That's critical thinking.
11:30Critical thinking.
11:31I'm trying to give you critical thinking,
11:32but I'm not going to have a fake fight with Nick where I really didn't know
11:35what he said before or after that clip.
11:36Cause I didn't get a chance to hear a lot yesterday.
11:38Cause I was over at the Browns.
11:40All I ask when we,
11:41when of anybody who's weighing in on this and fans too,
11:44what would you say if it were the jets,
11:45if it were the New York jets and you said bottom five quarterback room going
11:50into a season,
11:51one of the quarterbacks hasn't been good in six years.
11:54The other quarterback was a fifth round pick at some of the worst rookie
11:56numbers ever last year.
11:57New ed coach.
11:58If they all played for the dolphins,
11:59what would I say?
12:00Coordinators who had never done it before.
12:02If you go through the whole list,
12:04one of the youngest teams in football just lost miles.
12:07Garrett brand new offensive line with five new guys.
12:09You would say what for the jets three wins.
12:11That's what you would say.
12:12Be honest.
12:13That's all.
12:13All the,
12:14all people ask of us is to be honest.
12:15That's all I ask of you,
12:17Ken.
12:17That's all I ask of everybody involved with our shows on the station.
12:20Just be honest.
12:21Yeah.
12:21You can have,
12:21you can have some emotional optimism.
12:23You hear me every year that the,
12:25the playoffs come around for the guardians and the calves.
12:28Then yeah.
12:29Then I turn into a bit of a Homer because playoffs are supposed to be fun.
12:33I didn't hear that.
12:34Unfortunately,
12:34with some other shows in town,
12:36when the calves are in the playoffs,
12:37we'll see if the guardians are going to be different.
12:39If the Browns just have to win like five games and then we get that kind
12:42of optimism.
12:43So we'll see.
12:45We'll see how honest people are.
12:46That's all.
12:482028.
12:48There should be a playoff team with the talent that they have.
12:53There's a lot of pressure.
12:56You know what?
12:572028.
12:57There will be a playoff team.
13:00I don't know if it's with any of the quarterbacks,
13:01so I'm putting a lot more pressure on them,
13:02but they should be a playoff team.
13:04You have the type of young talent here around this team that you should be
13:08saying they can is not saying anything.
13:10So if we want to do critical thinking,
13:12there's that's as critical as I can be.
