00:00let's talk about match play because you know effectively the the the new outline is after
00:06that last regular season event which looks to be i think they're calling it the geo by raymond james
00:11it stylizes capital g i don't know if it's the go by raymond james the geo which would stand for
00:15the
00:15greensboro open by raymond james but that being a part of that championship series once that last
00:20event is played the top 90 players on the points list will head to what they're calling the pga
00:25tour championship series finale and this will set the field for the match play so think of like
00:31you know bmw championship plus right like it's it's a it's a 90 player field so larger than the
00:38current 50 for the bmw championship but it's a 72 hole stroke play event there's a tournament champion
00:43there's also the number one finisher on the season long points list that gets it gets crowned gets
00:48that bonus pool as well and then the the top 32 players on the final season long points list at
00:54that point advance to match play and it's a two-week match play setup at two different venues so the
01:01first week is a 32 man field split into eight groups of four i don't know if you know many
01:06who
01:07are listening or watching remember the old match play where there was a you know pool play that
01:11happened there at austin uh country club and and they're in two players would advance out of that
01:16into a 16 player bracket it'll be similar for this but once that event ends there and scotty noted this
01:23this week it's gonna be weird finishing event that first week and not having a winner basically all
01:27you have after that first week of 32 players with with match play with i'm sorry with pool play
01:32are 16 players advancing to tour championship week two and then for that event you're just
01:39matching those guys reseeding them however they're going to do that and you're playing those eight
01:42matches the first day you have eight winners move on and rematch for four matches there because
01:47you're just trying to get to the place where only one player is undefeated but the eight guys who
01:51lost in that first round stay around and play matches to shuffle up and you know enter a final
01:58seeding format or rankings point list that corresponds with with bonus payouts so that's an interesting one
02:04uh not everyone loves that i think scotty noted in press conference as well being asked after after
02:09roll app statement about this and said hey you know it's kind of tough on tv with only one match
02:14at the
02:15end of this thing so this is going to add a little bit more you know entertainment for people on
02:19site i don't
02:19know if you remember my half-baked idea a while back to like let them just take their purse money
02:24and wager it on the course while they're mic'd up i still think that should be viable and in play
02:28i think it'd be very like hey we're gonna play for uh fifty thousand dollars a hole here and and
02:32now
02:32i'm pressing this bet and whatever else but that is the structure of smiley uh we've talked about
02:37this at length before on the show when it's theoretical how do you feel now that you've seen the
02:42structure about a match play season finality for the pga tour i think scotty's on to something too
02:48with that first one the part one of the tour championship not having a winner i think that's
02:54very odd and in any consumable even matt like any match play tournament that you watch there's
03:00eventually going to be a winner so leaving an event and not having a champion i think it's kind of
03:05weird
03:05for a sponsor do you celebrate all 16 guys on the green uh with their cards heading to the tour
03:11championship finale i just think i i don't know how that's going to land uh in the grand scheme of
03:17things before the final tour championship uh because i there's a couple things i think having
03:2432 guys especially all playing match play and two guys out of each group it can be a little bit
03:30challenging to cover all the matches uh especially with all of them on the golf course and tv it's it's
03:39more difficult to cover match play i think it's much simpler to to cover stroke play because you're
03:44trying to document the story of potentially who's going to win the golf tournament and and showing
03:51the shots along the way that you feel like add to the story in match play you know you don't
03:56know
03:56exactly when that moment could be in a match that decides whether it's the momentum or somebody starts
04:03getting hot like you do your best you try to to show every shot uh or show every important shot
04:09of
04:09every match but really what it comes down to and especially in that part one you'll end up just showing
04:15a lot of 13 14 15 16 17 18 it's a lot of weight holes on the back nine to
04:22see how the matches finish
04:24but you'll maybe see scotty's match you'll see rory's match you'll see that the whole way through
04:30but the other matches you're just kind of okay well i'm looking on my app he hit it here oh
04:36i wonder
04:36how this person won this hole so there's there's that part of of of the experience for a fan where
04:43you're just going to get annoyed that you're not caught up to date on what's happening in every
04:47single match in a perfect world you'd be able to watch every single match but that's just i think
04:53that's pretty unrealistic maybe there's a way that the tour can figure out a way in which you can
04:58click on any any single stream and watch it i think that solves a lot of your a lot of
05:03the issues
05:03and problems that fans are going to have uh with this entire thing but um and just in general i
05:11think
05:11that from a positivity standpoint because it's not all negative match plays good it's fun like you're
05:18going to get some some interesting matches but also when you have these groups of of eight with four
05:24guys in each group you also could get a group of death
