00:00on to to rory's comments and so he this was to the telegraph of london on thursday it's not as if
00:07they made any huge signings this year is it roy's talking about live golf of course they haven't
00:11signed anyone who moves the needle i don't know i don't think they will i mean they could re-sign
00:15bryson for hundreds of millions of dollars but even if they do it doesn't change their product
00:20does it they'll just be paying for the exact same thing he said this is great as it gets brooks back
00:25to where he belongs he's one of the best players in the world and anything that makes her traditional
00:30tour stronger is a good thing in my book i want to start there there's one more i want to read you
00:36but just reflections on what rory's saying and i know that i deeply appreciate rory mccleroy's honesty
00:43on so many different topics you don't get a lot of guys that are willing to talk about that
00:46but we've talked about on the show in the past how he's come out and made strong statements of things
00:52that he believes and then whether he's had to backtrack or qualify down the road he's had to
00:58kind of change you know what his original position was and i wonder if you hear this and you read this
01:03you say i don't know if i would have gone that strong on that topic well i think many of the top
01:08pga tour players will probably be in agreement with rory mccleroy and except the guys of course that
01:13turned out a big sum of money like windham uh that this is better and stronger pga tour now that
01:19brooks kepka's back i think most people can understand and agree especially if brooks gives
01:23you uh you know some really good events coming up if he gets off to a great start for the pga tour
01:29and let's say he wins early i mean how amazing would that be for the tour to have that storyline
01:34brooks coming back from live and just i think the one the one event that i think of last year
01:39if we if ratings matter in this and especially with live golf's ratings in the united states up against
01:47the pga tour and i thought one of their best events they had last year was doral it was a golf course
01:53that many pga tour fans are familiar with players are familiar with it and live golf had one of their
01:59best sunday finishes with so many of their top name guys coming down the stretch i don't i think mark
02:07we shouldn't may have ended up winning that event but it was up against the valero texas open and i was at
02:14that texas open it was a windy event no birdies were being made and i think that rating was like
02:20a 1.4 for nbc and live golf i think had like a four five hundred thousand rating so when you compare
02:28those two things together the best event of live in the united states compared against you know a field
02:35that was just trying to get to the finish line and brian harman winning and a lot of waggles
02:39and comparing those two things you're like wow uh maybe rory's right when when you talk about if
02:45they're not adding more players you know what's going to change for the viewer to get these ratings
02:51up um i can't speak to to how much money that is being made for live golf with the franchises and all
03:00these potential sponsors that are apparently coming on uh whether it be apparel or banks or uh selling
03:07these franchises to to potential billionaires that we've read about with that we don't know how
03:12accurate it is that's kind of the what is bubble watson alluded to is that there's been people that
03:17have been trying to buy the range goats well we don't know that and i don't think we would know what
03:22the finances are inside these teams and what the end goal is uh but i do understand it for certain
03:28markets how live golf can be considered better you know the pga tour is not going to be going to
03:34australia anytime soon although i'd like it to happen it just feels like it's not going to happen
03:39it feels like live golf is better for australia and it's better maybe for south africa but if you're
03:44going there as a top player in the world it feels like you're missing out on a lot of really high
03:51quality competitive golf where more eyeballs are yeah and i and rory goes on to say as part of this
03:57interview and he's speaking now about the pif which of course funds live golf uh we have to realize
04:03we were trying to deal with people people that were acting in some ways irrationally just in terms
04:08of the capital capital they were allocating and the money they were spending it's been four or five
04:13years so there hasn't been a return yet but they're going to have to keep spending that money to even
04:16just maintain what they have right now so that's already lost i mean they've lost five six billion
04:21dollars that was reported last year and now you're talking about having to put up another was it the
04:25500 million dollar signing for bryson to chamo and then where does that leave you it leaves you
04:30exactly where you are so we we know that that that fighting the money battle against live is is
04:36never that was the biggest fear in all of this and why you felt like you had to to go to the
04:41negotiating table to make a deal work because eventually they were just going to keep spending
04:45and spending and spending until all your top players were gone but enough of the top players
04:49said no to where they finally found some balance a good year in ratings for the pga tour and a
04:54bounce back year and i think they've kind of leveled out to where they feel like they can ride this out
