00:01Washington's first team offense was the Jed York in Ohio of offenses there on Saturday.
00:06We didn't see much.
00:06How are you feeling?
00:08In short, I don't feel very good.
00:09In short, I'm really worried, Tobes.
00:11Yeah, I mean, and rightfully so.
00:13I think for a lot of people, a caller mentioned this earlier, there's a risk that Jaden could
00:17get hurt playing in the preseason.
00:18That's definitely true.
00:19There's also a risk that you could sink your season if you don't get off to a decent start.
00:23And I thought when we saw the schedule released that there was going to be a definitive different
00:28approach to training camp in the preseason.
00:30I would say there has been to training camp.
00:32I don't think there has been clearly to the preseason.
00:35And we'll see if that works out or not.
00:37We'll find out starting on September 13th.
00:39But I wish I felt better after what happened in the second preseason game, and I don't.
00:44Two of the phones, 800-636-1067.
00:47Shane, Tennessee, what'd you see, dude?
00:50Commander, Toby, Lieutenant.
00:52How's it feel riding that Lieutenant seat there, buddy?
00:55Can't complain.
00:56Lieutenant's chair.
00:58Here's the thing.
00:59Here's the thing, fellas.
01:00That offensive line is going to be a problem all year long.
01:03We're down a hell of a left tackle.
01:05Our center position, we had a center.
01:07We let him walk for God knows reason why.
01:09Who knows?
01:10Maybe he had nudie pictures of the owner's wife.
01:12I don't know.
01:12But look, here's the thing.
01:13He's no longer here.
01:14And now the left side is going to be question mark.
01:18And here's the thing.
01:19Look at the defenses we played the first four weeks.
01:22Like, I told you.
01:24Now this is going to be, I said we were going to go one and eight.
01:27Now let me ask you a question.
01:28Say Daniels has the things he had last year.
01:35Right, like the slew of injuries?
01:37So, yes.
01:38And we end up picking up, say, you know, in the top five.
01:42At that point, Arch Manning's out there.
01:45All these quarterbacks out there.
01:46Are we saying Daniels is our starting quarterback right now?
01:49He needs to be playing right now.
01:51Like, this is ridiculous.
01:52He's in a new offense.
01:54He's in everything.
01:56Shane, thank you as always, buddy.
01:57I don't know that I need to go to looking at the next draft class.
02:00Yeah, I don't want to be in that, to borrow Dan Quinn.
02:03I don't want to be in that space.
02:04No.
02:04I'm not ready to do that.
02:05And to me, Jaden, he didn't look like anything on Saturday
02:09because he didn't have a chance to look like anything.
02:11I think he looks fine at training camp.
02:14Not much of a chance when you snap the ball on a guy's in your lap.
02:17But the problem is, that could be what happens against Philadelphia, Dallas, Seattle.
02:23And in that case, what are you going to do?
02:25Because that's live.
02:26That's real football.
02:27That actually matters.
02:28Well, people are looking at Philadelphia's offense.
02:30Yeah, they might be slow to get going.
02:31It's a difficult marriage to make that zipper lined up, right?
02:34With what Manion wants to do, likes to do, and while you employ him.
02:37And Jalen Hurts is a previous skill set, right?
02:41About what he's done really, really well.
02:42And this is a guy, again, that's won a Super Bowl and outplayed Mahomes in a Super Bowl,
02:46even in a loss.
02:47This is slightly different.
02:48Different offensive personnel that might take a minute to get going.
02:51Yes, your offense might not be as good in September as it's going to be around Thanksgiving
02:54with Makai Lemon, who hasn't pretty much practiced or played at all,
02:57and Dontavian Wick's coming in.
02:59So there's a lot of changes that are going to happen there.
03:01If you're going to get that offense, maybe September's the time to do it.
03:04That defense is just fine and ready to go.
03:08Yes.
03:08They are coming in week number one.
03:11Chip and Burke, you feel better or worse than the same after that dress rehearsal.
03:16Well, hey, fellas, thanks for having me on.
03:18But I have to say that I thought it was very underwhelming.
03:22And I want to go back a couple of years to Jaden's rookie season.
03:27And Grant, I know he's not on the show today, but a couple of times,
03:31at least a couple of times during 2024, Grant said...
03:37What did he say?
03:38What did he say?
03:39Oh, my God, what did he say?
03:41No.
03:41What did he say?
03:44Chip, did you do that?
03:45Dearest, did I do that?
03:46Did anyone do that?
03:46All right, let me try again.
03:48I don't know what happened.
03:49Chip, are you still there?
03:50Yeah, I'm here.
03:51Can you hear me?
03:52I can hear you now.
03:53Okay, that was such a cliffhanger.
03:54Okay, what did Grant say?
03:57Thanks for hanging in.
03:58Yeah.
03:58A couple of years ago, Grant said several times during the season,
04:02part of the good news story here is this is the worst team that Jaden is going to play on.
04:08We're going to build around him, and we're going to be,
04:10by the time he gets to his fifth season, we're going to be dominant.
04:14I made part of that up, but I think the thing we are continuing to miss is Joe Gibbs one
04:23was built around a dominant offensive line
04:26and a strong to dominant defensive line.
04:31Chip, thank you, buddy.
04:32I will always say I was there, too.
04:36I had a lot of fun, but this is 40 years later, and football's changed some.
04:40I'm not telling you you don't need a good offensive line.
04:42I've been screaming about this one.
04:43They need to be much better, but the way the salary cap is, you know,
04:47I'd rather have a great quarterback and a C-plus offensive line than a great offensive line and a D
04:52quarterback.
04:52But I understand your point.
04:53It's still valid, and we hearken back to those days when it was good,
04:57and we think all you've got to do is hand it off to a fullback at 3.9 yards per
05:01carry,
05:01but he's behind the hogs, and you'll go win a Super Bowl.
05:03The game is different now to a degree.
05:05It definitely is, but at the same point, it's still one in the trenches.
05:08I mean, we watched a juggernaut of a team last year in college football in Ohio State
05:15not be able to get past Miami, who was not as good on paper,
05:18but their dominant defensive line just annihilated the offensive line,
05:23and they didn't stand a chance.
05:24And you look in the NFL, Philly's been good for how long and why?
05:28It's because they're good in the trenches.
05:29Quarterbacks come and go, whether it was back with Carson Wentz to Nick Foles to now Jalen Hurts,
05:34and Jalen Hurts is routinely now ranked outside the top 10 of quarterbacks,
05:38but they're routinely good.
05:39So the issue I have for the offensive line, Danny, for the commanders,
05:43is with Laramie Tunsil, that's unfortunate.
05:47That one, you had one of the top five left tackles.
05:52I can live with that.
05:53Chris Paul, Brandon Coleman, that's to me fine at left guard.
05:57Never liked the center position.
05:59We were talking about this in the break.
06:01Nick Allegretti is who we're all talking about.
06:03Well, when Nick Allegretti gets back, it's like, all right, fine.
06:06So you're going to plug in someone who has barely been a starter throughout his NFL career,
06:09and that's going to fix everything?
06:10Great.
06:11I still don't feel great about that plan.
06:13I feel good about Cosme, but Connerly, even.
06:15A first-round pick.
06:16I'm worried, man.
06:17The issue is, I drafted you in the first round,
06:20hoping that eventually, I'm sure the thought is,
06:23maybe he takes Laramie Tunsil's spot at left tackle when Tunsil's done,
06:26but I've got to have you play right now.
06:28So I can't have you just be dog crap at right tackle and not be able to block.
06:33Kevin, Arlington, feel better or worse than the same, buddy?
06:38I feel the same, which is, what the hell are they doing at center?
06:43I've been banging this drum since the Beatish release,
06:47which I understand a little bit better now.
06:50Sheehan has actually provided some color around the contract demands that Center Beatish met.
06:55But listen, they wanted to sign Winderbund.
06:58They wanted to sign Pierce.
07:00They didn't get either.
07:01They finally, thank God, went and got Diggs.
07:04Gave up on the IU fantasy.
07:06But they didn't fix center.
07:08They are so far from fixing center.
07:10I mean, this guy, Good Jones, might as well be Hartman at quarterback.
07:13He's never going to play in the NFL.
07:15That's our plan.
07:17Nick Allegretti has injury history.
07:19He got benched after the second game last year.
07:23I know he's smart.
07:24Hey, man, availability is the number one ability.
07:27The guy's old.
07:27He's banged up.
07:28He's not that athletic.
07:29What the hell are they doing at center?
07:31They had their center they drafted playing guard last week in practice.
07:36Oh, and Quinn announced it today.
07:37They're going to move back center.
07:38They're moving back, yeah.
07:39Great, Dan, but, you know, I guess they don't have a plan, and they are refusing to go get
07:46a veteran to give them insurance.
07:48Until they do it, I'm going to say, this is a major miss until he's going to make us
07:54pay badly in the Oklahoma.
07:57Thanks, Kevin.
07:57I'm so upset about that.
07:58Appreciate you, buddy, as always.
08:00Yeah, I mean, I've run through all the doomsday things in my head.
08:03Again, the word panic, I'm only saying it to make sure I'm telling people don't.
08:09It's true to do that.
08:11But I am telling you, we got a little walks like a duck, sounds like a duck, is quacking
08:15like a duck, looks like a duck, is on my plate, and his brother and sister are foie gras.
08:23You know what I mean?
08:24There's a lot of things that don't look real good right now this minute.
08:27It's a lot of the same signs.
08:28And had last year just been a normal injury-set year where you still had great performances,
08:34but enough players missed enough games, and you battled Miguel Cairo style, and you finished
08:397-10, a couple things don't go your way.
08:41You go, we're reloaded.
08:43We're right back.
08:44You guys, you saw it.
08:46And anybody who tells you it was just the injuries wrong.
08:49Injuries had nothing to do with Frankie Louvre, Deron Payne, or a bunch of these other guys
08:52stinking up the joint.
08:53Had nothing to do with a lot of the production or lack thereof that didn't happen for a bunch
08:58of guys they're counting on this year.
09:00The point that you're making, I think, is such a good one, is that the cavalry is once
09:05Allegretti's healthy, something he hasn't been for two consecutive days this entire preseason
09:09and training camp and things.
09:11That's not the night on the shining horse, man.
09:13That's not.
09:14You're not getting Laramie Tunsil back, and we can say, keep waiting, keep waiting.
09:17It's Nick Allegretti.
09:18And with all due respect to him, he hasn't been a starter throughout his career.
09:21I just don't love their plan there.
09:23And it's ironic, Danny, because I do think their O-line played reasonably well last year.
09:27It wasn't awful.
09:28It wasn't great.
09:29But it wasn't atrocious.
09:31And this is largely the same O-line, with the exception of center and then obviously Laramie
09:35Tunsil going down.
09:36But I've talked plenty of times.
09:37I think Brandon Coleman can play there.
09:39So then what the heck am I watching on Saturday?
09:41They can't block a soul.
09:42I don't know what's going on.
09:43I can't even...
09:43And listen, that's two plays that won't be that bad every play.
09:46But that's the best argument I can make.
09:48That's my sunshine view.
09:50Well, and the thing is, we go back to Miami Dolphins joint practice.
09:53Everything's sunshine and roses, and everyone throws in the caveat.
09:56But they couldn't move the defensive line when they ran the ball.
09:59It's a big part of this offense.
10:00That's a pretty big deal.
10:01Matters.
10:02Dan, Frederick, feel better or worse than the same, buddy?
10:05Oh, man.
10:06I feel horrible after that.
10:08I just...
10:09I'm lost for words earlier with the whole thing.
10:11I honestly see these first four games...
10:14I honestly think if they end up one and three, they'll be lucky.
10:17You know, maybe possibly they might win that last game after the first three.
10:22I just don't see this looking very good.
10:24So I'm out.
10:25Dude, appreciate you.
10:29It's so hard to ascribe meaning to the preseason.
10:32And it probably isn't fair.
10:35Because one of the things I always say when it comes to sports in general is,
10:39you, talking about the team, set the expectations for me.
10:43If a team tells you we're all in with both words and actions,
10:47like, for example, last year for the Nationals, when we're at spring training,
10:52and they're talking about how good they're going to be.
10:54Remember?
10:55All we can think about is, are these guys aware of who are in these lockers next to them?
11:01Who's pitching, yeah.
11:02Are they aware of any of the information surrounding them?
11:04And their attitude was, it's put up a shot of time.
11:08We're going to be good.
11:09Just you wait and see.
11:10And it wasn't just internal, what players tell themselves and coaches tell you,
11:14because that's what they told this group, too.
11:15We're out there to compete.
11:16But I think deep down in places they don't talk about at parties,
11:19everybody knows exactly what they are.
11:20These guys are too smart.
11:21But last year, when the Nats tell you,
11:23we're going to be good, and they're not,
11:26that's when people get fired.
11:28Right?
11:28When you tell me, as the Wizards told me,
11:31hey, we're rebuilding.
11:32We're going to take our time.
11:33We are doing a slow, correct, build you something great,
11:37you get grace.
11:38Right?
11:39Teams weren't willing to do that for a long time.
11:40They weren't willing to use the word rebuild.
11:42Football, they never do.
11:43But when you set the expectation that we're planning on being good,
11:47and watch how we do this,
11:48we don't need the preseason.
11:50We don't need all the different games.
11:53We don't need as many practices.
11:54After that first preseason game,
11:56they were basically off for three days.
11:58With some film and walkthroughs and ice baths in there.
12:03But for God's sakes, man, they're telling us,
12:06we think we're good.
12:07Now, after that preseason game,
12:10with Dan Quinn saying,
12:12nope, we're actually practicing,
12:13and this guy that hasn't been a center,
12:15he's a center again,
12:16tells you that they see what we see.
12:18Right?
12:19So the expectation now is what?
12:22800-636-1067.
12:24Scheduled to join by Grant at three.
12:27We're hoping his phone is live.
12:28It's charged.
12:29We don't know.
12:30He's unreachable.
12:31So we'll see if it happens or not.
12:32But we're going to try to call that young man.
12:35It's his show, too.
12:36Until then, how you feeling?
12:39An underwhelming,
12:40if not bad, offensive performance
12:42by the starters,
12:43and they're pretty much done for the preseason.
12:45Unless Dan Quinn is making some crazy announcement
12:47that I can't fathom.
12:49That's it.
12:50That's all we got.
12:51How you feeling?
12:51800-636-1067.
