00:00Kedah Menteri Besar Sanusi Noh has hinted the state may still pursue its zero gambling policy
00:05despite the federal court rejecting its appeal for a gambling licensing ruling.
00:10He stressed that any further action had to be reviewed by state lawyers
00:14to ensure it did not amount to contempt of court.
00:18Utusan Malaysia Kota Sanusi as indicating there could be another way forward
00:22although lawyers first had to explain the ruling's implications and the state's legal limits.
00:28The state government had yet to decide whether to issue new gambling licenses
00:32noting that gambling operations were ultimately driven by supply and demand.
00:37He argued there would be no need for outlets if no one wanted to gamble
00:41as a lack of demand would eliminate supply.
00:44Sanusi maintains the policy did not discriminate against non-Muslims
00:47and raised concerns that allowing gambling operations could also give Muslims access to gambling premises.
00:54On August 12th, the federal court rejected the Kedah government's bid
00:58to overturn a ruling barring it from refusing to renew licenses
