00:00Home Minister Saifude Nasution Ismail says he will brief the cabinet tomorrow on the controversy surrounding the allegedly illegal construction
00:09of houses of worship, including the vandalism of a temple in Rawang.
00:13He said such a briefing was necessary to explain the actual situation, the role played by the police in dealing
00:19with the matter, as well as opportunists who were exploiting the issue by fanning racial sentiments.
00:24A rally against such temples was set to take place last Saturday but fizzled out after the arrest of several
00:31individuals who had planned to proceed with the protests despite orders to cancel it.
00:37Saifude Nasution said the cabinet briefing tomorrow was to ensure that action taken by the police was not misconstrued or
00:42viewed from a certain perspective.
00:45He said there were those of the view that action against certain individuals ahead of the planned rally was unlawful
00:51and against the freedom of assembly and speech.
00:55However, he said that freedom of speech does not mean the right to provoke or fan sentiments that can lead
01:00to tension between the different races and religions.
