00:00In an unusual move, the federal court today advised the prosecution and the defense in MUA MP Saeed Sadek Syed Abdul Rahman's corruption case
00:09to go back and reflect on whether a verdict should be delivered.
00:13Justice Abubakar Jais, leading a three-member bench that included Justices Cheh Ruzi Maghazali and Colin Lawrence Sequeira
00:20and was hearing the prosecution's appeal to reinstate Saeed Sadek's conviction,
00:25gave both sides a seven-day cooling-off period to reconsider their positions.
00:31It remains unclear what prompted Bakar, who is also the Court of Appeal president, to call for the reflection period.
00:37He said both parties needed to discuss and consider whether they were still able to prove their appeal
00:43and if there was not much substance, they should inform the court.
00:47Bakar also indicated that separate judgments would be issued if a verdict is eventually delivered.
00:53On June 25th this year, the Court of Appeal unanimously acquitted Saeed Sadek of abetment to criminal breach of trust,
01:00misappropriation of property, and money laundering of 1.12 million ringgit belonging to Bersatu Youth
01:07and quashed the former minister's sentence of seven years' imprisonment,
01:11two strokes of the cane and a 10 million ringgit fine imposed by the Kuala Numpur High Court in 2023.
