Rico and Riger made a bet in regards to the Tigers trading Tarik Skubal.
Transcript
00:00Thank you, Jeremy.
00:02Thursday as we are all on school will watch to see what is going to happen.
00:09We got a load of show for you guys today,
00:11and we're going to try to get into some Lions talk because as Jeremy just said,
00:15Kirby Joseph spoke.
00:16I'll let you hear what he had to say.
00:18See what the concern level is for you Lions fans out there.
00:21But I still think the biggest story right now is got to be Tarek School.
00:26What is going to happen with him?
00:28And also, also not to be lost, Max Clark getting called up to the big club.
00:35I'm going to get to Max Clark thing in a second, David.
00:39But we got the passing sound, correct?
00:44So Jeff Passon talks about, you know, Tarek School,
00:47and he sounds rather definitive in what he is saying.
01:25So that's Jeff Passon talking about Tarek School.
01:27People think it's obvious, it's going to happen, everybody sees this is going to take place.
01:34I don't see it that way.
01:36It should.
01:37Don't get me wrong.
01:38Don't get the words twisted.
01:40I just don't think the Tigers are going to pull the plug.
01:42And it's funny because yesterday, David, after the show,
01:46I had to come back here for a second.
01:48And Rieger was on.
01:48So he sees me.
01:50He waves me in through the glass window.
01:52And I sit here and he starts asking, like, you can't possibly think he's going to be here.
01:56And I'm like, actually, I do.
01:58I don't think the Tigers are going to make the move because that's not something that Scott Harris is willing
02:03to do.
02:04Because if Scott Harris makes this trade, even though it makes sense to everybody in the baseball world,
02:10not just people locally, but nationally, the pressure starts.
02:14He is going to be judged right here, right now, based off of this trade, the returns that he got.
02:21Are these players any good?
02:23Did he actually help the Tigers?
02:24Or did he help out whatever team that Tarek School was going to go to?
02:28Rieger was so confident he was gone, he made me a bet.
02:33You know, Jeff, Jeff loves making bets.
02:36He got emotional.
02:36Jeff, the last one, David, was for the World Cup when I got him to bet that the United States
02:41was going to win the World Cup.
02:43And I was like, okay, so we bet.
02:45And I gave him five to one dinners.
02:47I was like, if the United States wins, you get five dinners.
02:50If they don't, you owe me one.
02:52And you won that bet three hours later?
02:54Literally won the bet three hours later.
02:56I mean, because Paul was here.
02:59Paul was like, you might as well place your order right here, right now, and just have it ready for
03:03delivery when it happens.
03:05Jeff stepped up yesterday.
03:07Jeff made a bet.
03:09Jeff said he's so confident that if Scooble gets traded, I owe him one dinner.
03:17If Tarek Scooble does not get traded, which I truly believe he does not get traded, not that I don't
03:23want him to, but he does not.
03:25I get 20.
03:27I get 20 dinners from Jeff Rieger.
03:30I gave him a chance to back out.
03:32He was adamant.
03:33Said no, no, no.
03:35He started looking up some shop house and said, I'm going to order this.
03:38I'm going to order that.
03:39I'm going to order two steaks.
03:41I was like, okay, that's fine.
03:42But come Monday at 6.01, when he's still here, you're going to owe me 21 dinners.
03:52So, before we get into the Max Clark and the Tigers thing, I just kind of want to ask the
03:56people, are your team Rico your team Rieger?
04:00Not what you think is going to happen.
04:04Not what you want is going to happen.
04:06Let me clarify.
04:07Not what you want.
04:08What do you think is going to happen with the Tigers?
04:12Do you really think that Scott Harris is going to make this trade?
04:16Because everybody who I see on the street all tell me, you got to trade school, but you got to
04:21trade school.
04:22I'm like, at what part of Scott Harris's background does it show that he's willing to do that?
04:27I don't see that happening.
04:30248-539-9797.
04:32Are you on Jeff's side?
04:34This is going to happen.
04:36This is inevitable.
04:37He will be gone.
04:39Pass is saying he's going to be gone.
04:41You got other national writers saying he's going to be gone.
04:43Or you're like me.
04:45And in the end, man, Coney Island wins again.
04:50Undefeated.
04:51All the time.
04:52You know our GMs don't do much.
04:55This is too big of a deal.
04:57He doesn't want the pressure.
04:58He doesn't want the smoke.
05:00Skubal will be here.
05:02Because I'm going to tell you another reason why I think he's going to be here a little bit later
05:06on.
05:07But Skubal's going to be here.
05:08So, Team Rieger, Team Rico, what say you?
05:14Well, Scott Harris hasn't shown the chops to be able to make a deal like this.
05:22But I just believe there are so many teams that have shown interest in Tarek Skubal.
05:28The Dodgers.
05:28The Brewers.
05:30The Cubs, even.
05:31I've seen a report on that.
05:32The Braves have called.
05:34The Rays have called.
05:35I believe there's just too much smoke out there for it not to happen.
05:39I believe he pulls the trigger.
05:41See, but here's the problem with that.
05:43But I like to look at the facts that I see, not the speculation, because we all get caught up
05:49in emotions and feelings.
05:50You're fans.
05:51And that's what fans do, and that's okay.
05:53Okay, it's judgment-free here.
05:54But him going out to pitch yesterday showed me he's in it for the long term.
06:01The things the Skubal have said.
06:03You know, we want to be buyers.
06:05He's talking World Series with the guys in this locker room.
06:09Tells me he wants to be here.
06:11He's not going anywhere.
06:14AJ going out to the mound and Skubal pretty much telling him, get back into the dugout.
06:18I'm going to finish this inning out.
06:20Tells me Skubal's calling the shots.
06:23Okay?
06:24The fact that he was still out there in a 7-0 game in the 7th inning.
06:30If you were going to trade him, you don't put the wear and tear on him.
06:34You don't take the risk.
06:35No.
06:36He's not going anywhere.
06:38No.
06:38He's going to be a Tiger at least to the end of the year because I don't think that
06:42this team is willing to part ways with him.
06:45So, Rieger saw me.
06:46Rieger was confident.
06:47Rieger made the bet.
06:49I thought, I'm like, okay, you know what?
06:52You've lost a ton of stupid bets to me.
06:54Then he called me this morning, and I gave him an opportunity to back away from it.
06:58Nah.
06:59He still wanted to do it.
07:00So, 248-539-9797.
07:04Team Rieger.
07:05Team Rico.
07:05Paul, what do you got to say?
07:09Well, here's the thing.
07:11I'm going to be on Team Rieger just because it makes no sense.
07:15Like, I understand what you're saying.
07:18It makes no sense, though, if he doesn't trade Scoobal.
07:22It just, it makes no rational sense.
07:24And I know you tried to talk me off the ledge with the Pistons not doing anything.
07:27So, maybe I'm wearing the tinfoil hat again.
07:29But it just doesn't make sense, Rico, to not trade him.
07:32I don't like to lump every team all together, but I'm going to lump every team all together.
07:36How many times we said, just recently, okay, you got to go get a bet.
07:42I mean, a Robin for Cade.
07:43You got to bring in somebody else.
07:45And you know what the Pistons said?
07:46No, we don't.
07:48We don't have to.
07:50We're good.
07:50But I give you Isaiah Joe.
07:53Be happy.
07:55Lions.
07:55Man, you're in that window.
07:58You got to go get that second-edge rusher to help out Aiden.
08:01No, we don't.
08:02No.
08:03We're good.
08:04We're good.
08:05But they haven't shown anything for Harris to say, I'm not going to trade him.
08:11This has been an awful week for the Detroit Tigers.
08:15They have lost game after game after game.
08:17They have.
08:18And they haven't shown the ability that they're – or they haven't shown that they're a playoff team.
08:24So he has to trade him.
08:26And I think because of all the things you see out there, all the smoke.
08:30You see a smoke here in Chicago.
08:32The smoke is coming from L.A.
08:34The smoke is coming from Milwaukee.
08:35I think it's just too much to ignore.
08:38He has to do it.
08:39But here's the funny thing about that, David.
08:43You follow sports long like I have.
08:45When everybody is saying something is going to happen, when everybody is saying this will take place,
08:54when everybody is saying this person will be traded, what normally happens?
09:00It doesn't.
09:01It doesn't happen.
09:02Every year we get there's going to be a record amount of trades in the NFL draft, first round.
09:08It doesn't happen.
09:08It doesn't happen.
09:09So think about this.
09:10More recently, different sport.
09:13LeBron James is either going to Golden State or he's going to Cleveland, maybe Miami.
09:19LeBron said, no, watch this.
09:22I'm going to Philly.
09:24So out of the realm.
09:25I was off that day.
09:27Got the news.
09:29Literally had to pull over because I thought it was fake when I was told the news.
09:32It was like, wait, eight million dollars, two years to Philly.
09:37Man, you got had.
09:38You may want to take a look at that account again.
09:41That's Shams with a Z.
09:44That ain't Shams.
09:45But no, it was legit.
09:47I say all that to say everybody's saying it's going to happen.
09:51I don't think the Tigers see it that way.
09:53I don't think the Tigers see that they are out of it.
09:55And like it or not, folks, they are seduced by four and a half, four and a half out of
10:02the wild card.
10:05It's obtainable in their eyes.
10:07And they've shown you that.
10:09Why?
10:10Because today they did a move that I thought they should have did last year with McGonagall.
10:16Let's bring up Max Clark.
10:19Maybe he'll be the final piece to this puzzle.
10:22248-539-9797.
10:24Team Rieger, Team Rico, what say you?
10:30I would love to know because I'm waiting at 6-0-1.
10:34I may have my first dinner catered to the studio when Jeff gets here.
10:40So we'll get to your phone calls and we'll get to your text next, 97-1.
