00:25You know that he was looking at that board. You know that he wanted the top four.
00:29Because I'm so sure that he was not going to let this hometown crown miss out on him.
00:34He's the first rider in this Super Bowl, in this Super Bowl laps.
00:37Yeah, no shot he was going to miss this thing. And he found that speed at the very end of
00:42the session.
00:43Can he take that now into the Super Bowl?
00:45Nice corner entry there. This track is choppy too.
00:48You see the little kickouts left and right that's going to play a role in every one of these hot
00:52laps.
00:53Yeah, and I think that that's the hardest thing in these laps.
00:56You're by yourself. You're trying to go as fast as you possibly can.
00:59But like my dad used to tell me back in the day, fast isn't always fast.
01:04You need to be smooth. You can't make mistakes.
01:06And this is the most high pressure moment. You're all alone. The stadium's watching you.
01:11It's your home country race.
01:14It's very, very hard to be perfect, but that's what he's going to have to be if he wants to
01:17take this Super Bowl.
01:18Your dad's a wise man, because what happens is the riders want to squeeze a tenth everywhere.
01:23They end up losing tenths, so sometimes a strategy based on that part of the track is just don't lose
01:28any.
01:28Just be the cleanest version of yourself here and then find the areas where you can attack.
01:33And if you piece it all together, maybe you're the fastest.
01:35Colt Thompson is up first, and we're looking at a 54.7, so he sets the standard in SX2.
01:46Let's go to Kristen B., who's got more on Max Anstie, who is up next. Kristen.
01:53Max Anstie is on the track right now. Now, before he left the gate, I talked to him a little
01:57bit, and I asked him about that qualifying session.
02:00We're so used to seeing Max Anstie at the top of the boards. He wasn't during the qualifying session, and
02:04he said at this altitude, he just feels like his bike is so much slower.
02:09He said he just feels so underpowered, so it's hard to gauge not only your rhythm, but also your lines.
02:14He also said because the track is so different, every single lap that's changing, you have to be adaptable.
02:19What he found in his qualifying session is that one lap, a line would be super fast, and the next,
02:23it was not.
02:24So just being adaptable, even in this Super Bowl, and finding the right line would be so important.
02:29Great point, Kristen. Adaptability is the key, because when you ride in elevation, things don't feel like they normally do,

02:35so you've got to find where the power works, where it doesn't, make some sacrifices here and there, but he's
02:41crafty, he's a vet, he's a champion.
02:43This is the man, I think, that when the gate drops, he will adapt to what's needed.
02:46You see that purple first sector, that means he is the fastest so far in this session, and you can
02:52just hear the bike, that's the beauty.
02:53He's alone out there on the track right now. Goes fastest again in that second sector.
02:58He's coming into the whoops. He gets a clean run through this.
03:01Oh, he's nailed that.
03:03Ripped the berm, wheel taps his way out of the whoops section, a little 3-1 action.
03:09Nice and clean so far, haven't seen any big mistakes. That was good too, you saw a little bit of
03:12chop, but he gets through it well.
03:13Three purple sectors in a row. This is a fast lap for Max Anstey. Checkered flag, 53.4.
03:23So a nice big healthy gap right there for Max Anstey in the number one spot.
03:27Next is his teammate, Devin Simonson. This boy is going to give you all of his effort right here. This
03:32will be fun to watch.
03:33Yeah, you can really see how smooth Max was on the throttle. That's that patience we were talking about.
03:38They've got different styles on the bike and different styles off the bike.
03:42I am keen for this lap from Devin Simonson. He got that dog in him, as they say.
03:47He does. This is a kid who has had to claw and scrape and fight for everything in his life.
03:52He's in a better situation now, riding for Club MX in the US, Rick Ware Racing in the World Supercross
03:57Championship.
03:58A lot of stability in his life, but Jason, the DNA has not changed. He just claws, he scrapes, he
04:04fights.
04:05This is going to be a fun lap.
04:07Let's see him get through this first sector time.
04:11Nice.
04:13So if you can go faster, that shows that you are carrying great momentum in the early part of this
04:18lap.
04:20So aggressive.
04:22On off three.
04:24Nice triple.
04:25Stayed super tight there.
04:27The whoops are going to play the role right here because Max ripped through him in the corner before.
04:31He drifts a little wide right there, and we're talking tense matter.
04:36Yeah, the love is in the details in the Super Bowl laps.
04:40He's put himself a little bit behind the eight ball now.
04:43Not a bad run through the whoops. Let's see if he gets that same three-one. He goes two-two
04:47through that section.
04:49Sector time is going to show in three. Green again. He's a little off the pace of Anstey. It's been
04:55a solid lap, not a great one.
04:57He rips out of the corner, finish line, checkered flag. And it's a 54.1, so he is off the
05:03pace of Max Anstey.
05:05He's sitting in the number two position right now. And the story so far is this man right here, a
05:12rookie-to-world Supercross.
05:13Hasn't raced it in three years as far as Supercross itself on the Stark. That's a lot of storylines to
05:19this kid.
05:20We're going to get into this guy as the season goes on because he might be one of the most
05:23unique Supercross racers on planet Earth.
05:26He had a decision. There was a fork in the road in his life. It was race dirt bikes or
05:31be a violin maker.
05:33I'm not sure what the specific term is for that, but he comes from a line of violin makers.
05:40And I watched him race in Japan at their national championship last year. He was incredibly fast.
05:45I was like, who is that guy? No surprise to see him up front here. He's already gone fastest in
05:51that first sector.
05:52Speaking of these sectors, Sector 2 and Sector 3, they are the longest sectors on this track. They are really
05:58going to tell the story.
06:00Oh, it goes long there. That might be lap over.
06:04Wow. And you said it. Sector 2 is long and he's made two big mistakes in that. He went long
06:09on that triple jump.
06:11A big gap right there, so he's way off the pace right now. I want to see him in the
06:14whoops though. He says he loves whoops.
06:15And we know the Stark, this is their biggest challenge. And he either has chosen because the lap is already
06:23over to hop through or maybe that is the line that he's taking.
06:25It just wasn't a good one right there. We saw Webb go 3, 3, 3. That wasn't it. So this
06:30won't be the fastest lap of Super Pole.
06:34Max Anstey is going to win this thing. Still a great story right here. I can't wait to drop the
06:39gates and see this man race that motorcycle with these guys.
06:43He said he went from Japan. He's from Germany. He's well traveled. He's here in Calgary, Canada, making a name
06:48for himself.
06:49But he finishes fourth in the Super Pole. Max Anstey will be P1 going into the night. He gets that
06:55gate pick.
06:56Look, and I teased him on the Kickstart show and said, mate, you almost went perfect last year. Can we
07:01go perfect in 2026?
07:03He liked to play it down. He joked it off as all of those races do. But hey, we've done
07:08one session and he's got the Super Bowl. So we're still perfect.
