00:00In a telephone interview with TV6 News, the chairman of the National Gas Company, Gerald Ramdean, replied to concerns raised
00:07by Tunapunapiaq Regional Corporation chairman Josiah Austin about constructing a joint police defense force post over a gas line at
00:16the Eddie Hart grounds in Takarigua.
00:18The police post that is being constructed at the Eddie Hart ground is being constructed in the vicinity of an
00:28NGC pipeline. I've had certain discussions with my operations department. We have identified where the pipeline is. It is a
00:38two inch pipeline. It is a pipeline that has been non operational for a number of years. And it is
00:46a pipeline that is buried four feet.
00:48below the surface. The NGC's chairman said that the two inch pipeline had been used previously to transport gas for
00:56compressed natural gas at a gas station in Takarigua.
00:59The pipeline is safe. It is secure. And the reports that I have received from my operations department is that
01:08the construction that has taken place there, which is really the putting down of a foundation on the surface of
01:15the land, poses no danger to the pipeline.
01:18We have gone further at the NGC to ensure that all the precautionary measures are taken with respect to the
01:26pipeline, though being non operational, that no danger is posed to the public.
01:30Chairman Ramdean said NGC personnel were at the site on Friday, giving him updates.
01:36Ensuring that everything that took place there was no danger to any of the citizens of this country who use
01:45the Eddie Hart ground for exercising, whether they go there.
01:48Last night, I myself, after I got my report, I myself at nine o'clock last night went to inspect
01:56what was going on based on the reports that I received, just to ensure that what was being told to
02:02me, without me being a qualified engineer, I went there myself to ensure that what was told to me was
02:08carried out. And I was satisfied.
02:11While the TPR sees the chairman is claiming a lack of consultation, the NGC's chairman claims his office was not
02:18contacted by the corporation.
02:21Before these police posts were, the construction of these police posts were started throughout the country, the Minister of Homeland
02:29Security, the Honorable Mr. Roger Alexander, did consult with me as chairman of the NGC to find out whether the
02:38location in which these police posts were being put up or intended to be constructed, they in any way pose
02:45any concern or danger.
02:47The NGC is a pipeline network, which runs throughout the country, throughout the length and breadth of this country.
02:52The government says there will be 30 new mobile joint police defense force posts in several areas across the nation.
