00:00The Energy Chamber's 2025 Energy Conference began at the Hyatt Regency Hotel on Monday,
00:06February 10th, as recovery efforts continue for Well Services employee Pete Phillip, who
00:12went missing following the collapse of the offshore drilling rig he was working on on
00:17December 22nd of last year.
00:19The Energy Chamber's Chairperson, Marla Baliraj, acknowledged the grief of Mr. Phillip's family
00:25and the dangers of working in the oil and gas business.
00:29We have all recently been tragically reminded of the high risks that we face in the sector.
00:37As industrial leaders, we must never lose focus on the huge responsibility that we hold
00:42to keep the frontline workforce safe.
00:45On behalf of the entire Energy Chamber membership, I would like to again express our most sincere
00:51condolences to the family and friends of Pete Phillip and to share in their grief.
00:57The Energy Chamber's Chairperson spoke about the issue of safety in the context of the
01:02new offshore drilling projects.
01:05Drilling is important, but there also needs to be continued investments into our energy
01:09infrastructure overall – our platforms, pipelines, tanks and process plants – to
01:15ensure our industry is safe and environmentally responsible.
01:22For this investment to take place, we have to make sure that the sector is competitive
01:27across the entire value chain.
01:29Reference was made to a map display that showed the number of oil and gas exploration projects
01:34underway, including two that involve the planned supply of natural gas from Venezuela.
01:41There are major projects upstream that have already been approved and are in execution.
01:47By name of a few – Manatee, Sip, Manto, Coconut, plus onshore and offshore development
01:55drilling campaigns, as well as the Breckencastle solar farm.
02:00There are also others that are advancing towards investment decisions – Calypso, Ginger,
02:07Blackjack, Onyx, Dragon and Manikin Coquina – as well as the NewGen Green Hydrogen Project.

02:20local upstream side of the energy business, as she emphasized the importance of investing
