00:00Carson Beck, 15 of 19 for 188, a touchdown, and no turnovers for the Arizona Cardinals.
00:08Get your little underdog fingers out.
00:11Okay.
00:12Why do you got to call my hands a little?
00:15Just your fingers.
00:16Didn't mean it like that.
00:18Put down a little nugget on a Carson Beck Rookie of the Year.
00:24Okay.
00:25He will be.
00:26And then scratch it out because there's no effing way that happens.
00:29He will be the starting quarterback that starts, the rookie that starts the most games at quarterback this year.
00:36He will be the most useless starting quarterback in the NFL if that's what happens.
00:40That dude is a trainer.
00:41That dude's a winner, man.
00:43All the guy does is win.
00:43No, no, no.
00:44All the guy does is win.
00:44No, no, no, wrong.
00:45Every single loss he had in college, he threw an interception on the final drive to go ahead.
00:49Every single one.
00:50He might have played 100 college football games.
00:54He is literally the worst crunch time quarterback in the history of college football.
00:57He might have the most wins in the history of college football.
01:00He's like such an ESPN darling.
01:02That's why he was good last night.
01:03It was a preseason game.
01:04It was basically like a WNBA game, and that's why he performed.
01:06I don't think it would hurt.
01:07He's a quarterback.
01:08He's going to play.
01:09Yeah.
01:10And you'll hate his king.
01:11Long view.
01:12I was looking at CBS actually put together, like, what does the first debut performance mean
01:18when you impress?
01:20Five rookie quarterbacks who impressed in their debuts.
01:23Dak Prescott, number one.
01:25Oh, baby.
01:2610 of 12, 139, two touchdowns, zero picks.
01:30We were there.
01:31I thought he threw more passes than that in that game.
01:33We were there.
01:33It was Miami, right?
01:34No, it was the Rams.
01:36We were at the Miami game.
01:37Yeah, the game they're talking about, that was the Rams.
01:39That was in L.A.
01:40That was when he went into the Coliseum, and everybody was like, oh, snap.
01:42Jerry tells all these stories about that.
01:44But, two, Baker Mayfield went 11 of 20 for 2-12, two touchdowns, zero picks.
01:52Finally, he made it on the list.
01:53Justin Fields, 14 of 20, 142, a touchdown, ran it five times for 33 yards and a touchdown.
02:02Kenny Pickett, 13 of 15 for 95 yards, two touchdowns, zero picks.
02:08Dorian Thompson-Robinson, and then we have a bunch of bad debuts.
02:14Where it's Jared Goff, Josh Rosen, Matt Corral, C.J. Stroud, and Quinn Ewers.
02:22So, there you go.
02:23Last night, the Hall of Fame game with Luke Kuechly and others going in.
02:28A future Hall of Fame list coming out from Bobby's favorite?
02:33Yeah, old Barnwell.
02:35So, this was a list of how many Hall of Famers are playing in the NFL today.
02:44Now, obviously, I would have liked to have seen him amend this, like, take these, like, first- and second
02:49-year guys, just put them in their own category.
02:50But he did it a little bit differently.
02:54So, he looked at every single team.
02:56They have players who are in.
02:58The one category is in.
02:59You're just in.
03:00These are the no-doubters.
03:02Then you have the on-the-cusp.
03:04They've already done a vast majority of the work, and they need, like, one more season of solid play.
03:08Keep it up is for, like, the young guys who are kind of tracking work to do.
03:15That's where you've got to, obviously, produce more.
03:19And then, obviously, the ones that are missing out.
03:22And one stood out to me.
03:24We can get to that later.
03:25But went, obviously, right to the Cowboys.
03:28And keep it up is the highest tier they have.
03:32They don't have anybody in, and they don't have anybody that's on the cusp.
03:36They have one player in the keep it up category, and that is Tyler Smith.
03:42Yeah, rightfully so.
03:43That would be the guy who, given his age, what he's done already, is a guy who is on track
03:49to be there if he continues to be who he is.
03:52Are you surprised it's not CD?
03:54No.
03:56Because, I mean, the wide receivers just said they've kept Torrey Holt out.
03:59Like, I mean, it's such a difficult one to really separate.
04:01He wrote, of all the big names on the roster, Smith is the one who has played at a high
04:05level most consistently over the past three years.
04:07The best way for interior linemen to earn Hall of Fame consideration is to rack up Pro Bowl appearances early
04:13and often.
04:14And the Cowboys' left guard has three of them in three seasons since kicking inside from left tackle after his
04:20rookie year.
04:20He had a viable case as an All-Pro last season and turned 25 only earlier this year, which could
04:27mean that his best football is still to come.
04:29God, he's dumb.
04:30He was a bad lay.
04:32He was not a bad lay.
04:33But that was, like, clearly his worst season since his rookie year last year.
04:36I don't know what he means by viable case for All-Pro.
04:38Barnwell did not watch him last year.
04:39Work to do category, Tyler Booker, CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, Dak Prescott, Quinn and Williams.
04:49So those names behind Tyler Smith.
04:54CeeDee Lamb will sit down with us at 720.
04:56What else jumped out or do you have any problems or issues with this?
05:00I think it's fair.
05:02I think it's fair.
05:05To me, like...
05:06Yeah, I wouldn't say Dak's not tracking for the Hall of Fame.
05:10Pickens is not.
05:13Quinnon's got a lot more work to do.
05:15You know who is tracking for the Hall of Fame?
05:17Brandon Aubrey.
05:18Just keep it up, baby, and you will be a Hall of Famer.
05:20He has Jalen Hurts on there.
05:23Yeah, there's something I disagree with.
05:25So, Dak...
05:26Keep it up?
05:27Yeah.
05:27He's a keep it up.
05:28Like, keep going on this track, but you're going to be in the Hall of Fame.
05:30This is what...
05:32This is the problem I have with the Hall of Fame.
05:34No, not the Hall of Fame.
05:35This is a Barnwell thing.
05:36The Hall of Fame is not putting Jerts in.
05:38I'll tell you this.
05:39I mean, like, the problem is, is that, yes, he is ahead of Dak in the Hall of Fame discussion.
05:43Whatever.
05:44Even if you were to say that.
05:45He's not better than him.
05:46They're both work to do.
05:47He's not on the track to get ahead.
05:49I would agree.
05:50I think that's the wrong category.
05:52Because the Hall of Fame discussion is different than an on-the-field discussion.
05:56Hall of Fame discussion, they value rings more than anything else.
06:00And we've talked about the 70% of the people in the Hall of Fame have a Super Bowl ring.
06:04He wrote, under Hertz, I thought the Dak Hall of Fame discussion was going to be tough.
06:09Hertz has obviously had rough points at times, but he's also done two things the Hall of Fame loves.
06:13Play quarterback and win a lot of games.
06:16So, that's what he put in.
06:18The write-up on Dak is his Hall of Fame case is the sort of thing that fuels debate shows
06:24in the 2030s.
06:25His postseason success, as alluded to him, he's missed significant chunks of time with injuries in three of his 10
06:31years.
06:31But he's been steadily productive when healthy.
06:34Second in MVP in 2023 when Lamar won 49 of the 50 votes.
06:40So, again, I think that, you know, when you look at, like, Dak, for example, if you don't have a
06:47ring, you fall into that Phillip Rivers situation.
06:51Or Matt Ryan, where you're in the top 10 in passing yards, and you're not going to sniff the Hall
06:56of Fame because you don't have a ring.
06:58And at the end of the day, that's the debate.
07:01That's the debate that's going to follow him around.
07:03And it's unfortunate, but that's the reality for when it comes to the Hall of Fame.
07:07What else jumped out from the list, if anything?
07:09Well, I went and looked at where Dak compares with the other quarterbacks.
07:13So, the other quarterbacks in the work-to-do category, Brock Purdy, Jared Goff, Jordan Love, Jaden Dancey.
07:23Daniel's way too early.
07:24That's way too early for that.
07:24Bo Nix, same thing.
07:25Herbert, Trevor, and Burrow.
07:29Burrow's in the same category?
07:31Same category.
07:32You know, your keep-it-ups, you know, Hurts obviously was in the keep-it-up tier, and we disagree
07:39that.
07:39Drake May was in the keep-it-up category as well.
07:42So, he was in the category ahead of Caleb and ahead of Jaden Daniels.
07:46Pretty cool moment out here at practice yesterday.
07:48It was Military Appreciation Day.
07:51And someone in the crowd gave Dak Prescott a cowboy hat.
08:02Well, Dak did not realize until later that the face of his brother, Jace, who passed away in 2020, was
08:09on the side of the hat.
08:10And Dak was like, oh, I wish I knew specifically who the fan was.
08:14They found the fan and kind of united them after practice.
08:18So, Dak was clearly touched by the gesture.
08:22I had the guy's Instagram.
08:23He, like, makes really cool hats.
08:25I'll try to go ahead and look it up.
08:27But they got the guy, and Dak Prescott was really, really touched by it.
08:32Newey Scruggs.
08:33Here it is.
08:34If you're interested.
08:36Corona's Custom Caps.
08:40mccc.fresno.
08:41That's it.
08:42mccc.fresno on Instagram if you're interested.
08:45It looks like the guy's got some skills in terms of design.
08:49Newey Scruggs on NBC5.
08:51Ask Dak.
08:52Hey, you were engaged.
08:54There's always some type of deep personal story tied to you.
08:58How is Dak the person doing these days?
09:01I'm great.
09:02I'm blessed.
09:02As I said, I'm a follower of Christ.
09:06And, you know, just having the faith that I do, it's always been something and a superpower
09:11in a sense that I've had is my faith.
09:14And so it won't change.
09:16It's, you know, I won't even say it gets shaken just because if things happen and things
09:20don't go necessarily my way or the way that I thought they would, doesn't necessarily
09:25affect the way that I wake up each morning.
09:27I'm grateful when my feet hit the ground, I'm grateful to breathe the air that I do
09:32and to be where I'm at.
09:33I've got too many blessings to look at my trials.
09:38And I'm just super thankful for the opportunity that I have to be where I am and to have two
09:43amazing daughters, to be able to play the quarterback position for this organization
09:47and still inspire so many.
09:49Adversity is going to come.
09:50It's inevitable.
09:51And if you know how to respond to it and if you can respond to it consistently, you can
09:56get over it.
09:57So there's Dak with Newey on NBC5.
