00:07I think the best part about it for me yesterday was just the enjoyment I got out of a trade
00:10deadline for Major League Baseball.
00:12I haven't been that invested, that excited for a trade deadline in quite some time.
00:18And he didn't wait until the very last second to pull the trigger on Adley Rushman, which I thought was
00:24awesome.
00:24Like, you got it in the middle of the day.
00:26I mean, the Karabas report came out, what, like noontime?
00:29And then it was finally confirmed by passing three, four hours later, or Buster Olney might have had it a
00:34little bit before that too.
00:35So it was nice to get that early.
00:38And I'm like, okay, Craig's moving.
00:40Like, we're actually in this.
00:42And so it kind of even increased the hype as you got closer to that buzzer beater.
00:46And then you end up trading Marcelo Meyer pretty close to the end, right up near the deadline.
00:51And so I thought it was awesome yesterday.
00:53I think that's half the reason I'm so excited is just because I enjoyed the deadline so much.

01:49So I think you can show up on time for a meeting.

02:21And so I think like, ultimately you can say it's an overpay, but it's so worth it.

02:25At the end of the day, you don't remember prospects.

02:48a lot of potential who is on a very team friendly deal.
02:52So that to me, and he had been established a little bit in Major League Baseball, right?

02:59So that is one that you can scratch your head about and go, I hope this pans out the way

03:04But not, not, not, not either of these deals yesterday.

03:13Yeah, I think we should.
03:14Greg, after the deadline passed yesterday, Craig Breslau spoke to the media via Zoom and gave you a couple reasons
03:21on why he decided to be so aggressive at the trade deadline.
03:25Here was Craig Breslau.
03:26The competitive environment is, it's part of the equation in that, you know, there are years where this record could
03:33be leading our division.
03:34There are years where we could be firmly out of the playoff picture.
03:37So I guess like implicitly, it's, it's part of the way that we approach this.
03:41But I think more, it's just the way that these guys have played, the job that they've done on the
03:46field, the coaching staff, the, the way the fans have supported this team in a turnaround.
03:50You know, we've, we felt going into the season, like we had a really competitive team.
03:54We are seeing it over, over the last month and a half.
03:57And we wanted to do everything that we could to give ourselves the best chance to go out and compete
04:01for a world series.
04:02They are 28 and five in their last 33.
04:07And when a team is playing like that, how can you not do what you, whatever you can to make
04:14the team better and to get the team ready for the playoffs?
04:17So, and as Curtis brought up, you're, what are you, a half game behind the Yankees, Curtis?
04:23You're only one, yeah, one game out in the loss call.
04:25The all important loss call.
04:27I mean, like, I, I don't understand those who are concerned about overpayment when you don't know whether there's going
04:37to be a baseball season next season.
04:39Who that man in the Twitch chat says he got fleeced?
04:43Ooh, sick bird.
04:46Especially when you're in a position that you're, you can possibly win the division.
04:51Like you, it's one thing if you're like, all right, maybe we're going to be a wild card team.
04:56We're fighting for that spot.
04:57And you're kind of like, all right, maybe we don't want to add too much because it will cost us
05:01money.
05:02And we might not be a team that, you know, gets in the playoffs.
05:05So if we do, we get bounced early.
05:06But when you're a team that's actually now competing to win the division, I think you got to put yourself
05:11in the, like, and Bresbaugh said it, the best possible position to compete for a World Series.
05:16And that's their mindset.
05:18I don't give a damn about getting fleeced.
05:21I want to win the World Series.
05:22I want to do whatever you can before we're out of baseball.
05:24I want this team to be worth watching.
05:27And if you get this, if this catcher is what they think he's going to be, then it's a franchise
05:33-altering deal.
05:33And who cares about the four guys you gave up?
05:36Yeah, unless you're, like, a baseball hot old nerd, like, boss man Laird, I don't, like, you got a everyday

05:52I mean, the argument is not that he's an everyday player.
05:54The argument is that he has been hurt an awful lot of late.

06:02But to say you gave up four prospects, I mean, we've been sitting here talking about Campbell, Meyer, and Roman
06:08Anthony, and all, you know, for the past, I don't know, couple of weeks, especially when you're talking about Anthony
06:14and Meyer.
06:14Like, prospects don't mean anything nowadays.
06:16I think Meyer for Miller is an excellent deal.
06:20And that's a guy, a lefty, who can eat some innings for you.
06:23And, Curtis, you were asking for that.
06:26You wanted an arm.
06:27So, you know.
06:29And I wanted to get rid of Marcello Meyer.
06:31So win-win.
06:32Yeah.
06:33I give him an A.
06:35I give Odyssey a B+, and I give Breslau an A.
06:38And what a – it's – we talked about it a lot during the first hour, but you look at
06:44where the Red Sox were and all the focus and attention that they put on the big three.
06:52And the disappointment that comes with at least two of them in Meyer and Christian Campbell is – it's a
06:59cautionary tale about building your team around prospects.
07:03It really is.
07:04Right.
07:04And I think that's kind of the – and I think that's why they had no problem moving on from
07:09Meyer.
07:10And they had no problem sending Campbell down and burying him in AAA.
07:13And to Chime's point yesterday, which I was on the same train as him, if the right deal came along,
07:20I'm willing to bet you that they were willing to move on from Roman Anthony.
07:24Like, I just think that that's where their mindset is, is they realize, like, well, you know, we tried with
07:29these guys, and obviously they haven't been able to, when they've gotten their opportunities, prove that they could be everyday
07:36big league players that can help us win.
07:40I mean, so I think all those guys, in their mind, were expendable.
