04:48a generational player so i think that's what a lot of people that you know might not be familiar with
04:54him don't understand is the talk around them i'm not gonna say there always ends up being talk about
05:02uh prospect that you have in your system you know and oftentimes uh they don't live up to the
05:11expectation but i like trot nixon's a good example like that is the word i was just thinking of
05:16you're thinking the same thing yeah but in the case of roman anthony at least so far i think he

05:22proven himself to be the potential is gigantic so i don't know why swing yesterday the home run
05:29it reminded me of jd drew who was a guy that was as a young prospect was considered the guy

05:36a switch hitter who could play several positions great arm all of that and he never lived up to the
05:41hype but he had the potential he had the ability to hit the ball the way roman anthony last night
05:46i can't think of a guy at this stage i mean 21 it's insane in major league baseball to be

06:41double check this so roman anthony was the 79th overall pick so he wasn't even like at the top and

06:49guess i i thought he was like a top three pick the way that the hype was around them i

06:55second round pick i believe oh so that is a lot of hype for a second round pick then which

07:01like i didn't realize that the hype that's around this kid in my eyes like i thought like oh he

07:07top three pick you know i think the drake may the hype around drake may is because he's the number
07:12three overall pick so there is a lot of hype around them and i think the expectations on what everybody

07:18about him and his potential um that's why it's going to be real interesting to see how he handles
07:24this season because he's doing great in the world baseball classic but no one cares about really that
07:31much here as much as the regular season if he's playing like he is in the world baseball classic
07:37during the regular regular season you keep saying nobody cares about the world baseball classic i think
07:43you're i think you're wrong well i'm not i don't mean it like that greg i just mean it when
07:47it comes to
07:48how people feel about the red sox season versus like where the world baseball classic is around
07:54here i think the expectations are if roman anthony starts off the season in a slump like we saw with
08:00devers last year i don't think people are going to be very happy with that right so no matter what

08:06does in the world baseball classic i mean all factors would indicate he's not going to i mean i he's

08:11an excellent spring right but both uh you know grapefruit league and world baseball classic so i
08:18would expect that he's off to a pretty good start yeah i for me the only concern i have is
08:25injury and a
08:26guy that's able to get through the whole grind of 162 game season that is the the biggest difference
08:32between coming up and playing and you know single a and then getting to the big leagues and then playing
08:36150 games it is a lot and so he there's some people in town that have commented on like oh
08:42he
08:42doesn't get up quickly like he bumped into a st rafael and was lying on the ground and people thought
08:48that was weak or whatever but i i don't know you have to try hard i think it's more for
08:53me it's going
08:53to be the more the mental aspect of roman anthony because in baseball we we've seen baseball as a sport
09:01where guys can hit a slump for a long time and then mentally they got to find their way out
09:08of it
09:08where he has so much expectation on him he has so much on him what what does he look like
09:15when he does
09:16eventually hit that little slump is he able to bounce back out of it relatively quickly or is it
09:22something that lingers so it's gonna it's gonna be interesting to see how he deals with that more than
09:26anything because the physical talent is there but it becomes that mental grind that mental toughness
09:33of being the guy and playing in boston curtis where are you currently you were uh very loudly
09:41disappointed when it came to the red sox and adding a legit bat that can hit the ball out of
09:50the park
09:51to the lineup here are you encouraged by what you see like do you buy in on roman anthony

10:11home runs yeah it sounds like closer by committee to me i mean like i they had an opportunity to

10:26back going this team is the best team in the american league and the rotation is excellent the
10:32bullpen or all the chapman was the best closer had one of the greatest seasons in the history of the
10:35sport last year so you're sitting there today and it's to me it makes me more frustrated when you
10:42see the talent of this roster that they didn't add one more bat and then you feel like you're going

10:48be able to withstand it because you already see meyer's back hurt again shine what he was like
10:52uh marcelo meyer had something happen he was scratched from the lineup yep these young guys
10:56well what is it tom it was a left knee injury right so you have uh anthony last year missed

11:03games at the end of the season like i don't know what i mean alex cora with us and certainly
11:09with us
11:10a week and a half ago or whenever that was and in general doesn't seem to be that happy with
11:16marcelo meyer and i don't know if it's the availability part of it but he he does he does
11:22does get hurt it's interesting too because meyer is probably roman anthony's closest friend of the
11:27team they live together why you wouldn't want to just have him around just to sort of help out the
11:32best player on your roster but i don't know i think they're like on two different paths now with
11:36meyer and um and anthony i think that the issue i have with them not going after and signing a
11:43guy
11:43like pete alonzo is this you're banking on guys to do something that maybe that they haven't done
11:53before or is this something that they can do consistently like you're banking on guys to hit
11:5830 home runs that haven't done that in their career so that's kind of a real roll of the dice

12:14in a higher direction at least when it comes to home run total right but that's great we know how
12:20the world of sports works like it's like we we look at preseason or training camp or spring training
12:26and like yeah okay but what do you look like in the regular season so you're talking about guys you
12:32you you brought up duran like duran hit 16 home runs so now you're banking on him to hit 16
