00:19i just said you can't name a quarterback soon enough and if one of these guys isn't standing
00:24out in practice it's because neither one looks very good is that is that fair because i don't
00:30think we're expecting both guys to look like world beaters aren't we no i i don't think we are i

00:36the expectations have been lowered for that competition um it's interesting you know we
00:41talk about the timing of it todd monken wanted to have this you know the starter pick before training
00:47camp and now he keeps pushing it down the road because i think that's just the reality of the
00:52situation no one has seized the job so it's going to be until the preseason at least one game
00:59maybe more in the preseason before there's a decision made you know he says we need one by
01:06week one andrew barry says the same thing so who knows maybe this drags out jeff um even longer than
01:10i expected to begin with and yeah i don't think anybody's emerged is a favorite i should der sanders
01:17has been better through four practices than deshaun watson he's been more careful with the ball
01:22i think he's been more consistent with his accuracy you probably see three or four throws
01:27a practice okay that's a really good throw there um i think watson you know he's thrown six picks
01:33and you know we could break down all of them and which one's his fault which ones aren't
01:36doesn't really matter at this stage of camp but i think the bigger issue is he feels more inaccurate
01:42to me that he'll make a good throw and then follow it up with a couple inaccurate ones so it's
01:47that
01:48inconsistency that i think sanders has a better edge when it comes to that scott obviously you're
01:54not going to find a head coach who's going to tell you that interceptions don't matter and he likes
01:57them but i think that we were probably in the extreme last year when it came to protecting the
02:02football at all costs with kevin safanski is there more of a world with todd munkin where people are
02:08looking at you know quarterback trackers and everything else and seeing interceptions from deshaun
02:12and they just maybe don't mean as much as they would have a year ago with kevin i don't think
02:18that i don't think so um you know first of all kevin the reason kevin puts so much focus on
02:23it is
02:23number one it's really important you know it's telling statistic we've all seen that number two
02:28is they turned it over so much in 2024 that he's trying to stop that and then it didn't happen
02:34i mean
02:34joe flacco came over came out and turned the ball over a ton early um gillian gabriel was careful with
02:40the ball but i think that might have been more about dylan gabriel than it was about kevin safanski
02:45and then you know shader turned it over a decent amount when he was playing so they need to be
02:49better in that area period um i don't think you're going to see todd munkin take more chances
02:56necessarily um i think the receiving core probably gives you a better chance to push the ball down the
03:01field so i think we'll see more of that and the explosive plays are certainly missing the last couple
03:05years i don't think that was a play design i think it was the function of who was on the
03:11field um
03:12so i i don't think so i don't think we're going to have a you know we don't care about
03:16this attitude
03:17with munkin i think he wants to protect the ball just like everybody else does scott petrack joining

03:30you yeah you know what it's interesting i think physically and he talks about it in the story
03:36that he feels healthy you know the shoulder is better than it was when he came back off the surgery
03:42the surgery was in 23 he came back to start 24 didn't feel right his arm didn't feel great you
03:47know just coming off that surgery that feels better he looks good moving coming off the two achilles
03:52i don't think there's any question about that um you know day one he just didn't throw it well
03:57and you you know you look at his arm you go okay is the arm okay i think since then
04:01he seems like
04:03there's enough velocity on the ball and he can move it down the field um i go back to the
04:08accuracy
04:08jeff and maybe that is a rust thing you know he hasn't played in the game since october 24 but
04:13he needs to get over that hurdle because we saw it in the offseason program the same thing to me
04:18where
04:18he would make a good throw and then miss a couple and that trend has continued in the training camp
04:23so
04:24maybe it is shaking the rust off getting back into the 11 11 action you know he said he needs
04:29to
04:30get in a better football shape because it's been so long um but it's that consistency where i think
04:35it's missing the rest of it the health and that i think is okay i think it's now how does
04:41he produce
04:42does shadour look like a quarterback who has improved does he does he look the same as he looks as
04:48a rookie
04:50no i think you can see areas of improvement and one of those is his feet and i'm sure we
04:57talked about
04:57it last year you know his feet when he got here as a rookie felt slow to me not that
05:02he couldn't run
05:03or couldn't escape it was just in the pocket was there any urgency to the footwork and todd munkin
05:08has talked about that he talked about it in the offseason that how he saw improvement
05:12which should are there and it helps his decision making and there was a play the other day
05:17where he got back in the pocket there was pressure there's been pressure all over the place
05:21in the early stages of camp step does a quick move up in the pocket sets his feet makes a
05:27good throw
05:27and i thought it felt really quick all the movements and the thinking so i i do think you see
05:33that now
05:33it's not all the time it's not every play he's he'll still hang out on the ball too long or
05:37go to his check down or be slow going through his progressions i think slower than you'd want him to
05:42be
05:42but i think there are certainly being strides made and you've seen it from rookie year to the
05:47beginning of the offseason program and i think that that growth continues to happen i have to ask you
05:53because people are asking about it now no quarterback necessarily taking a massive lead early and dylan
05:59gabriel's played relatively well should he be allowed and reconsidered into the starting quarterback
06:05competition that's not allowed thanks jeff jeff took care of that for us um i think it's way too early
06:13for that um you know again he's going with but against the 13s and with the 13 so it changes
06:20the evaluation process um you know i i just think there's a ceiling to what dylan gabriel can do and
06:28i think
06:28the other two guys in the competition the top two guys in the competition exceed that ceiling of what
06:34dylan gabriel has now he's a young guy it's only year two maybe he proves me wrong um maybe he
06:39works
06:39his way back into discussion and starts getting those some first team reps which he hasn't gotten
06:44um but i just don't i need to see so much more from dylan gabriel before i'm willing to even
06:52entertain that thought scott it was nice of jadevion clowny to stop by for lunch but i understand i
06:59understand completely going to houston he lives there his family's there okay i and that's where
07:05he started his career i that's fine brown's lost out on a guy that they would have as andrew barry
07:10said we'd like to add him to the team so they didn't are they looking for another defensive end
07:16i mean joey boasts is out there hassan reddick's out there uh kyle van nooy edge rushers who are
07:23veterans who are available or do you think they'll be patient and see what uh what roster moves get made
07:29late in camp no i think they'll look for somebody else just now you know the fit needs to be
07:34right
07:34and the money needs to be right but the fact that they went after aj epinesa in the offseason and
07:39he
07:39failed his physical the fact that they wanted to sign jadevion clowny shows me that andrew barry
07:45thinks they're one edge rusher short and probably a veteran edge rusher short to go with verse in
07:51alex wright and isaiah mcguire you know they have you know the undrafted rookie logan fano they have
07:57june la quora who's played in this league and has had some success but i just think if you watch
08:02the guys that he's tried to bring in it just signals to me that andrew barry really feels that
08:07that's a need on this roster so i don't think he's going to be patient i think we'll probably see

08:13veterans come in or at least one guy that he considers i just think that's what he's going to
08:17do how about the guys that they're going to be going up against offensive line obviously
08:22no pads on for the rest of it pretty hard to get an evaluation on them uh but now the
08:27pads moving
08:27forward how quickly do you think we can get a potential answer on what the starting five actually
08:32looks like yeah it starts to get clear right with the pads i mentioned the pressure that the defense
08:39is getting they're getting a ton and it makes it tough on the quarterbacks and it's tough for the
08:43line the offensive linemen when they're not in pads so i think the hope is that with everybody in
08:49pads the the protection is better um we need to see if that's true if jared verse keeps beating
08:55bono and juan jones if mason graham keeps winning like we need to see that um but then as far

09:02setting the five linemen it the first thing that makes it tough is tevin jenkins who is i would say
09:07the presumptive starter right guard hasn't been out there the last few days with we don't know the
09:12injury yet but um so i think that that just adds to the uncertainty across the front um you know
09:21we've
09:21seen different people working in we've seen kt levinston get a lot of reps at right guard um i
09:27don't think we've seen a ton of parker brailsford at center yet with elton jenkins moving to right
09:31guard so i don't think we're close to having that um five-man line set i mean they're still rotating
09:38dewan jones and spencer fano at left tackle so i think we're a ways away from that put pads on
09:43though maybe we see some separation there i i still i'll forever look at dewan jones and think
09:49could you stay healthy because you could be a pro bowl offensive lineman and i wonder what happens
09:55when they put pads on today what do you think yeah it's it's gonna be interesting um you know we
10:00talked to george warhoff the veteran line coach at the end of minicamp and he was not ruling out
10:05dewan jones first starting spot like somebody said oh is he your swing tackle and he stopped
10:09it he goes hey we're not going there yet um now it's a little crowded right i mean final you
10:14don't
10:14draft him at number nine not to play him so i think it would have to be it would be
10:19a big surprise if
10:20final's not the guy left tackle now titus out it's you know they traded for him and spent some money

10:25him yeah um you know is could dewan jones win that job and you try to slide howard the right
10:30guard
10:30howard doesn't really want that you know he said he's was told he's gonna play right tackle but
10:35things change so yeah we'll have to see if the pads let's see if jones stays healthy maybe the
10:40browns are trying to manage him because he started week one he hasn't been able to get through his
10:44season yet so they like the idea of him as a swing tackle at least to start the year i
10:48could see that
10:49you know you also have the rookie austin barber getting some first team snaps at right tackle so
10:54i do think we'll get some clarity in with the pads on but right now it's just a bunch of
11:00bodies
11:00out there and they're working through who fits where and who's the best guy scott thank you
