00:00So for for Scotty Sheffer this year, when you look, those results are incredible.
00:04Like I would come on, like it's an incredible season and will be enough for player of the year.
00:11I don't know, because I think there is a value to winning, but there also was a bit of luck
00:17and how sometimes I think it's Scotty Sheffer's wins last year.
00:22He got he was fortunate like guys either where there was throwing up on themselves like he got a hot
00:28at the right moment, got some good bounces here, there.
00:31That's that's why like this sport is so maddening is that that you end up playing different players, different courses
00:39every single week.
00:40And it's not the same gym. It's not the same game.
00:43Best of seven series that you're playing against the same players over and over again.
00:47You're you're you're up against a new set of circumstances every week.
00:51And for whatever reason, like Scotty's had good hands and whatever, for whatever reason, the blackjack dealer flips over four
00:59at the end.
00:59It's like, well, you know, I didn't we didn't know that Victor Hovland was going to find his game like
01:05all of a sudden and then just turn into Victor Hovland.
01:07It's like, what are you going to do, dude?
01:09He didn't miss a shot at the Travis Championship.
01:12Koivin, of course, like you would think that he would maybe miss that putt on the ninth hole.
01:16And then here comes Scotty Sheffer and he's going to post and come from behind and win.
01:20And it's like, no, didn't work that time.
01:22And it's been a long season.
01:24I'm sure I can point to countless other situations where where guys just either either stepped up and played above
01:30their their playing weight and just said, you know what?
01:33This is my turn to win.
01:34And they went and did it.
01:35And sometimes you've got to tip your cap.
01:36But other times you're just like, man, if I just would have been just average over that course of nine
01:43holes, like he referred to it a couple of different times this season, like I think it was his late
01:48Friday, early Saturday this week.
01:50It's like that was kind of the reason I lost this golf tournament.
01:52So Scotty understands like at the at the end of 72's whole 72 holes, what it takes.
01:59And he just knows he needs to get himself in that position to win.
02:03But too often and too many times this year, he's just been slow out of the gates.
02:08And that was the that was kind of the story.
02:11And that first half of the year was that Thursday scoring average.
02:14And if it weren't for Thursdays, like he'd probably have more wins.
02:18But the combination of that and then other guys just playing well and and just maybe a tough nine hole
02:25stretch here and there.
02:26And here we are with with only one win at the Amex.
02:29Yeah, well, and it's even interesting looking at this week where, you know, he makes it on Friday, makes double
02:35at 14 and bogey at 17, playing like a little more aggressive than he might normally play.
02:39If he gets that, been there, done that, been there, done that.
02:43I mean, let's you give you give him par par there and he's in a playoff with Jackson Coyven.
02:47Right. And I think that and it's even interesting thinking about the strategy there of like this.
02:51Is this a guy that is I'm not projecting on him saying that it is wearing on him, not winning.
02:56But I mean, you know, you keep getting reminded of it on a week to week basis.
02:59You're at a week where there are low scores out there and you're thinking, you know, can I go pick
03:04one off here?
03:05And maybe you kind of make change of the decision making a little bit.
03:08You get burned forward a couple of times and then here you are solo second once again.
03:11So he was he was in position on 18, though, Charlie, that I think if we're going to like try
03:16to compare him to Tiger, like Tiger would have hit that thing inside of 15 feet.
03:20That's 18. Like that was that was a horrendous golf shot in that situation.
03:25Like that's that is a spot that's got a chef for dreams and relishes to be in, to to have
03:32an opportunity to post.
03:35I guess it would have been a 62 if he made eagle.
03:37At least give yourself like a good putt, like a good look for, you know, an eagle putt.
03:43And he hit it to what, like 80 feet.
03:45I was like, man, like in that spot, like just felt like it was a one of the worst, like
03:50clutch iron swings I've ever seen him make, like for how good of an iron player is.
03:55And trust me, I would have taken this iron shot.
03:58Like I would have been I would have grabbed the putter like it's not a comfortable iron shot, by the
04:03way.
04:03You're just hitting over water the entire way.
04:06And I've played that hole when you have it just to touch back into the breeze.
04:09If you're in between clubs, it can be a tricky shot.
04:12I just felt like I was that he was going to stuff something in there.
04:16So I was a little shocked by that.
04:17Yeah.
04:18And on the flip side of that for Jackson, at that point, you have a three shot lead stand on
04:22the 18th tee.
04:22And I know he was he was earlier in the round, but you can pretty much play polo up that
04:25fairway.
04:26And he dang near did, you know, and just kind of hit it, hit it 240 yards left and kind
04:30of hit a little layup and then had a little sand wedge in.
04:33And I thought it was pretty, pretty good for him to get up and down for a par to set
04:37the scoring record three of, you know,
04:39I thought it was gonna be a very safe and easy bogey to kind of just get the thing in
04:42the house at 24.
04:43So shout out to his caddie, David Flynn, by the way, David's one of the I've known him for a
04:48very, very long time in junior golf.
04:50Uh, back when we were like 10, 11 years old and David's been really caddying ever since I've been on
04:56the PGA tour.
04:57He's had on and off with different bags, caddy for Trey Malnax for quite some time.
05:02Uh, so I've always been around David and it's great.
05:06And I remember bumping into him, I guess a year and a half ago.
05:10And I was like, where are you working right now?
05:12Cause he was out walking the golf course.
05:13He said, I'm working for Jackson Coivin, uh, this week, or I'm working for him the rest of the year.
05:18I'm like, just like in his amateur starts, he's like, yeah, he's like, is he that good?
05:22He's like, oh yeah, he's that good.
05:24I'm like, okay, just, just any confirmation.
05:27Uh, so here's a guy that is a professional caddy that said, you know what?
05:30I'm just, I'm just going to bet on this guy.
05:32He's that good.
05:33And, and, um, even in the starts that he's finishing top 10, he's not making any money
05:38off of just what the salary is for the week.
05:40And that's sometimes the investment young caddies have to make to get an elite player is just
05:45say, Hey, I'm here.
05:46I'm here to ride the storm with you.
05:47Let's, uh, when you turn pro, I'll be right here for you.
05:50And there he was on, on Sunday, helping him get that win.
05:53And so shout out to David Flynn.
