00:00Just kind of wanted to get your perspective on this, because I don't think we really finished our conversation about
00:05maybe kind of what you've seen in Scotty's golf swing that you think might be getting him a little bit
00:10off.
00:11I can point to even just yesterday when he's on the 13, he's got a seven one in his hand
00:17to a 40 yard fairway, wide fairway.
00:20And he misses it out to the right. Like these are uncharacteristic misses for him.
00:24What do you see?
00:26I see a potential sequencing and timing issue that I haven't seen out of out of his his body and
00:34arm swing.
00:35You know, I think I see certain things when I really studied him on the range and, you know, who
00:41knows what Randy and Scotty would actually say.
00:44They might tell me I'm full of it. But I I look at it and it seems like sometimes and
00:51he might be trying to do this,
00:53but sometimes he'll stay he'll maintain the width in his swing really well and he'll stay wide and he'll maintain
00:59that angle all the way through the golf swing.
01:02And that seems to me when he hits his best shots, when he, I, a couple times on the range,
01:09it was really weird.
01:11He had a different, it almost like a down set from the top and he got narrow or he would
01:17get narrower.
01:19It seemed to me like he didn't maintain the width and that's when he would either get an overdraw or
01:25usually it would be a push,
01:27kind of a push out to the right and then kind of it would leak.
01:30Was he frustrated? Like, was he vividly, like visibly frustrated on the range when he'd hit those shots?
01:36Not overly, but yeah, he'd kind of, you know, he'd kind of one hand it and then whack a ball
01:42towards him again.
01:43But nothing. I mean, we all it's all of us would do that. Every one of us would do that.
01:48And so, and so, yeah, it was a, you could tell he was, he was a little visibly frustrated, but
01:54I think also, I think Scotty also understands
01:57and he's got good enough perspective in the game and understands that, you know, you're going to have these ebbs
02:01and flows.
02:01And right now he's just in a little bit of an ebb and it's all relative. His ebbs are going
02:05to be, are still really good.
02:07I'd take his ebbs any day of the week. So I, but I think that from a golf swing perspective,
02:13those are the two things that I kind of noticed just in passing that I saw when I saw the
02:19ball go to the right and kind of leak versus when I saw him hit good ones.
02:23It just seemed like he really maintained that width. And it was a really good, it was a solid, stable
02:30transition at the top.
02:32Didn't look quick. You know, it's actually one of the things I noticed is putting, which again, it seems like
02:38under 10 feet,
02:38certain putts looked like he would get quick with the stroke. Um, when he noticed that too. Yeah. Yeah.
02:45Did you notice that? So I, I saw that a couple of times this week where I'm like, you know,
02:49certain putts,
02:50not every putt inside 10 feet, but certain putts, it's just like the, the stroke just didn't have a nice
02:55discernible pause to, you know, somewhat transition to it. It was a very quick transition in a stroke on,
03:02on some short putts outside of that, you know, it's fairly pretty much business as usual as good shots,
03:08are really good. You know, we, we evaluate them on, on such a high baseline, right. You know, for,
03:15for what we know he's capable of. And, you know, we're always looking at the stats too, to help,
03:21you know, be our guide to see, you know, how he measures up against everybody else. But we, for,
03:27for all, for, for quite some time, you know, we've looked at his numbers and we've just compared them
03:32to tigers, but in a year like this, we're trying to, you know, connect all the dots with Scotty.
03:37Cause he's, you know, around the green, it's fantastic. Off the tee is really good. You know,
03:41he was a little off of the driver to start the year, kind of testing and toying with
03:44different driver heads, which seems like he's kind of get that all figured out and more confident
03:48when he's gotten his bag. Uh, but you, you touched on the iron game. And, and when I think about,
03:54uh, just shots that I've seen from him to this year, even in, uh, Amex week in which he won
04:00his, uh, his just control with his numbers hasn't been quite as good, which I've always said with
04:06him, that is his superpower, his ability to feel like he's got his fingertips on it to be able to
04:12hit his number. And now we're starting to see at times just the lefts and the rights come up too,
04:17along with it. So you're, you're seeing a short and long miss, which I think if you, you know,
04:21you played with Tiger AO for, you talked about it just a minute ago, what he was so great at
04:26was hitting it pin high. And that's what Scotty is. That's what his superpower is.
04:31I think, uh, and I don't know. Um, I don't know if this is the case because I haven't asked
04:38Scotty,
04:39I haven't talked to Scotty about it and I haven't talked to Randy about it, but when I noticed,
04:43and this is just in general, and I'm, I'm not saying this is what's going on with Scotty at all.
04:48So let me preface the next statement by saying that, but I've noticed this trend at times.
04:53And I noticed it with Rory a few years ago when Rory tried to chase, have fun and chase
04:59DeChambeau and chase the speed and chase speed. I tend to think that that's when you start losing
05:07a little bit of your, uh, feel, feel, you start losing your fields. You start, your transition
05:13starts to change, uh, because you're trying to hit it harder. You're trying to find that distance.
05:18And I think that, you know, it's all, this game is all about give and take, you know, if you're,
05:22if you want this, you're going to potentially sacrifice a little bit of this. And so, uh,
05:29I've noticed it in other guys games when, when you, when you reach for this, especially distance
05:34wise, sometimes your distance control with your irons, because of potentially the transition
05:40that you're having with your arms and your body, because you're swinging the driver so hard
05:43that can tend to bleed into the irons and the shorter clubs where you want that, that control.
